Hi guys. I have the samsung epic 4g running randomrom 2.2 phoenix and I was curious to know more about kernels and modems and how themes are different from actual roms. For example randomrom 2.2 runs on ec05, can I update to eh17 or will that be a problem? Also it is running genocide 1.0, can I upgrade to genocide 2.0 or will that brick it as well?

Themes should just be graphicwise changes, they may contain apps that have been changed to fit the theme style.
ROMs can include a theme, a new kernel, maybe a new modem, different apps, settings tweaks.
The line between what is called a theme and what is called a ROM is a bit murky.
I would say if it contains a kernel or different modem its a ROM not a theme.
Thanks. That helps quite a bit but ho do I know if genocide1.0 that came with the rom would besufficient, or if I should updae the kerel to genocide 2.0?

thank you so much for who ever may help ill post the working ones in this thread right after so others can enjoy the nice ICS look
Which ROM are you using exactly?
I know it says 'cm7' in the title, but is it CM7 you're using, or a ROM based on it? And what version of it?
Edit: Or did you get it handled in the threads there?
I just downloaded Sonny's ICS CM7 theme from the market and use the stock ADW launcher. It themes the icons, Widgets, keyboard, all kinds of things. On his xda thread he has themes for other launchers but stock has been looking great. Very easy. I haven't flashed the new font but might.
I haven't screwed with the lockscreen.
G2x - 2.3.7 CM7
Transformer - 3.2 Revolver OC/UV
so far im using cm7 nightlies i do the flash and undo then flash again but still nothing D:
I am opening this thread to discuss the new official release from AT&T and Samsung. Details can be found here.
I'm not sure why discussion rooting was a reason to close a thread, but I guess a overzealous mod is better than no mod.
I hate to burst your bubble but there's already an active thread about the official AT&T Gingerbread release.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1437947
I am not sure how much needs to be discussed. It is the same rom that was leaked back in 11/16/2011. Developers have done some amazing stuff with the Rom so far. All that is left for them to do really is add BLN and voodoo color to the kernel. I am not sure if having the source will do anything more for the Rom themselves.
FYI - Mod don't like ppl reopening closed threads.
yes I was active on that thread. It was locked by a mod because people started to discuss how to root the new release. zergRush does not work on it.

Do we know yet that it is bit for bit the same?
Does anyone have an Odin or Heimdall compatible version of the ROM?

Those are the two big questions I have too.
That last thread was sure cut short, but i have a question regarding kies mini. Im currently running the leaked UCKK4 Stock, rooted, and bloatfree; will i be able to upgrade with kies mini?

I had the exact type of rom running on my phone. Mini kies told me I was already running the latest rom. So, I did one click back to KB2 then used mini kies.
Ah, my apologies then.
I'll throw a bone out there, Fugu Root. Nuf said. Interesting enough tether manager likes to fc when you have debug enabled along with the usb connected.

I also had Tethering manage FC on me, but only right after I flashed it on the first reboot. I have not seen it FC again. I am very familiar with the Fugu kernel swap and think it great method, but my issue that I don't have a source of the kies released KK4 kernel. Do you know how to gernerate or extract an ODIN flashable kernel from the running image?
I'm running Cyanogenmod kang build 7.2 right now but I gotta ask is it worth going to stock gingerbread? How stable is it? I'll be honest I miss some of the touchwiz apps, but IMO the stock froyo rom sucked. At the very least I'd probably root and remove the AT&T BS, but IMO The froyo rom ran slower and buggier than the stock eclair rom! I really just want everyone's general opinion of it. Its a tough call. I got my phone running pretty stable with Cyanogenmod right now and its out of warrenty anyway so it might not even be worth my time anyway.

Check the KK4 leak thread for the tar.
No one has confirmed that the KK4 leak is exactly the same of the offical KK4. That is my only hesitation. I would like to be sure that I am running the AT&T KK4 release

Well the camera is a heck of a lot better the AOSP. It's worth it, even though it's still RFS, it's snappy and way better the KB1 ever was.
Yeah speaking of rfs I'd definitely be putting a lag fix on. I might look into it, and yes I agree about the camera, in fact honestly the hate against touchwiz is unwarranted. All the touchwiz apps are better, even the launcher is better than vanilla android one(not counting cyanogenmod that uses adw, which is one if the best). Only thing I did notice is without touchwiz the rom is faster, so obviously it adds bulk but the apps are so much better!

I never did get slacker radio and maps working at the same time on kk4. Even with tweaks I mentioned in another thread, slacker started dying after about a day of use. No problems like that with cm7. Thats why I am mostly interested if they actually made any changes from the leak. I doubt it though.
Ginger Bread is here
Im updating currently to official ginger bread
Didn't you notice that Samsung & at&t dropped lots of original Gingerbread features? like the CRT screen-off animation... I can't find it on the new official GB update one.
Is CarrierIQ still present in the official build? Curious. It was in the leak.

Does anyone know which APK handles the scrolling wallpaper off the top of their heads? I have debloated my 2.3.6 and scrolling wallpaper has disappeared, heh.
Thanks
FYI its 3D Gallery.

Its in the actual framework of 2.3.6, its a rom problem. Reverting the gallery won't fix this
You're right it just did the wide for me too. Possibly in android policy.
Edit: I'm now thinking it could be with twlauncher.

you guys seem to be having this problem for a while so im gonna post here with a few questions .
I noticed if I use a twlauncher form the SGS 1 the wallpaper scrolling works . that leads me to believe the framework is not to blame .
Comparing the smali files of the 2.3.5 and the 2.3.6 of TWlauncher I dont see anythign tangible
if I use the 2.3.5 launcher , again no wallpaper scrolling so im confused here ?
, any insight ?

So I assume you are on 2.3.6, and you are saying twlauncher from the I9000 works? But on the same rom nothing else changing the 2.3.5, and 2.3.6 stock AT&T twlaunchers don't work?
well I grabbed the touchwiz30launcher form this : SKYICECREAM RC6.75Zstock
it seeemed to be 2.3.5 so if its indeed 2.3.5 it doesnt allow scrollign on my 2.3.6 romwhile the i9000 one does
ok and I pulled the one form the stock phone of my GF and it does NOT (2.3.5 ) scroll so the fix is NOT the launcher itself ,

THIS WAS POSTED IN THE ATT Gnote's themes and apps forum but since we share the same problem I post this here as well , as I will fix both phoes at the same time when we get the fix ...
Part A_ (solved)
1_ On the GNOTE Some launcher allowed you to scroll wallpaper but still the size of the image was too small as the gallery wouldnt crop them on the proper resolution
2_ On the GNOTE with the landscape added to TWlaauncher the gallery would not crop the image properly for landscape ( when phone in ladscape you woudl see crop 'black' bars on each side)
So I fixed the GNOTE's Gallery with a Simple hack to allow full size of 'wallpaper'
here it is : http://www.mediafire.com/?84yb70al1fewdhk
there is a known bug you need to select portrait size then you can reselect the landscape size
(not sure if this gallery will work well for the skyrocket users )
Part B_
_ On the skyrocket , using TWLauncher in 2.3.5 the wallpaper scrolling works just fine (tested on my GF's skyrocket) on 2.3.6 it does not (confirmed by all skyrocket users)
_I extracted and deodexed the 2.3.5 TWlauncher and pushed it to my GNOTE phone running 2.3.6 , Scrolling still doesnt work . (also confirmed by Skyrocket users)
_ I pushed the i9000 version of the TWLauncher in my phone wallpaper scrolling works . ofc the i9000 version is not the newer touchwiz launcher but scrolling does work .
What are the conclusions and things to look in order to fix this ?
The TWLauncher itself is not preventing the scrolling since it works on other launcher and the 2.3.5 one doesnt scroll as a standalone in 2.3.6 but does scroll inside 2.3.5 .
Maybe the i9000 version has built in scrolling inside the launcher . while the newer ones (form skyrocket and Gnote) have ties inside the framework jar files.
Maybe this can be ported . to our TWlauncher
Most probably comparing the framework's jar files from 2.3.5 to 2.3.6 will reveal the changes . This can be long process . if anyone has an idea what smali files are envolved ill get it to work .
first I need them 4 files of both 2.3.5 AND 2.3.6 (android.policy.jar framework.jar and services.jar aswell as the framework-res.apk ) from the skyrocket ....
As this is a known issue on both the skyrocket and the Gnote this will be posted in both forums .
The sooner I get these files the sooner I can have a look at them
I would prefer files from the same carrier and deodexed if possible .
If you are reading this and you have the Rogers 2.3.6 files handy please upload them as I can pull the 2.3.5 rogers files from my GF' s skyrocket .
I don't think there's a 2.3.6 release from Rogers or everyone would be all over it (network switching etc.). As for the others I have poked around android.policy.jar to no ends but if i have time ill zip up 2.3.6 and.2.3.5 stock deodexed.

thx a lot , I m positive its in framework.jar actually but might be wrong .
Few questions one the only difference between both his ics roms is just the modem right? Anyone explain that. Also I notice even texting with Swype and screen LCD at 200 screen keeps resizing is that normal? More important question I tried changing from base modem to new leak modem didn't work so went back but only get 1mbs download on 4g and never see lte ever is that normal could I, of messed up a setting when change rad setting and would flashing back fix that?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
wrong. difference in more than modem, the whole rom framework is different, basically everything. Bug fixes and code changes have been done in ucld2, which the new base is from
Screen LCD isn't holding settings, use a different dpi changer
a complete wipe and flash is the easiest way to solve ur last problem. Flash ucld2 modem first from seanscreamz op and then new rom
you mean u2 base brand new one is more stable? how is that its from new ICS leak I assume? I must say one I got is just perfect almost ahhhh I think thats problem nothing perfect.
sky pics new base is made from ucld2, the new leak
I had tried both, but was going with 4.2a. After Icenight's endorsement, I went to 4.2d-4 and it's been super stable with great battery life. It's based on the new link and new radio, but has been incredibly smooth. I recommend it. Just be sure to follow the instructions!
