I am typically a silent browser. However I need some assistance.
I currently have a t mobile Sensation and naturally s-off(Perm).
I am very familiar with flashing roms as I must have flash at least 20 roms with my N1.
If Sense is any different, regarding flashing then I'm having issues with my current speed.
All directions on downloading the latest rom and kernal have been followed, which prompted me to test my Dl/Ul speeds with speed test. I'm in a very good coverage area and on a stock rom I was averaging literally 8 dl/1.75 ul.-Mbps. No wifi.
On my modified rom I cannot get past 4 dl/0.75 mbps.
Now I understand we have a new set of oc that is built into the rom, however before I installed setcpu my speeds were not all the different.
Please advise what I am doing wrong.

wrong radio?
i have to agree, it might be your radio..make sure it is the newest radio and check your tmobile apn settings. try internet2.voicestream.com
hope this helps.

internet2.voicestream.com is NOT for 3G/HSPA/4G (whatever you want to call it). Must be epc.tmobile.com.

Fair enough, and appreciate the help. Now, this was a concern of mine prior to flashing as I did not even flash a new radio, as opposed to my N1 where I would go with the latest CM radio suggestion.
Where would I locate a radio as I still don't have rights to ask a Question in A&D, but interactions > date of registration.
you could try finding one in the custom rom topic you are using. Usually they will recommend which radio to go with the custom rom.
cheers!
Confirmed on the slower speeds, also using LeeDroid. My APN is epc.tmobile.com. Have flashed the latest radio..audio went back to shipping radio but problem persists.

Guys, try to manually put APN in.
thats why im still on stock rom s-off perm root. wants you start flashing custom roms thats when you lose everything your phone had from the start. its still in the early stage for custom roms for the sensation i will wait till around december before i flash thats enough time for devs to really work out the kinks. remember most off the roms here were maid before s-off so the devs really did not have a system to work on intill now

December wow lol. I'm running LeeDroid v1.1 w/ kernel v1.2 and it's already amazing. Everything works flawlessly and he got rid of the lag that was in the Stock TMo ROM. Plus Overclock'ed kernel w/ UV coming soon. ROM is super stable, fast as hell, and battery life is much better. To me it's a no brainier, nothing to lose.
Some of the Devs had S-OFF before we did, and most have been putting out ROMS long before the Sensation. No reason to wait til December but hey that's just my opinion!

I understand where you're coming from but the issue of people having problems isn't ever going to go away. That doesn't mean it's the ROMs/Devs fault. There are so many variables involved including a big one - the user.
Everything might work perfectly for one person, while there is a "bug" for another. Well that person may not have read the entire thread/wiped when supposed to/cleared data etc. All the things many of us who have been flashing a long time have learned to do by default before asking questions. I don't check all the other threads that often so I don't doubt you, but you never know until you try. You may flash now and have no problems. It's sorta like, if you don't want to "troubleshoot", why are you flashing ROMs to begin with?
Either way your answer of "this is why I haven't flashed a custom ROM" isn't helpful to the OP or any of us because we HAVE flashed custom ROMs
I'm toying with some build.prop settings as I did on my Nexus One and I'm seeing some improvement in speeds on LeeDroid.
I'll post more in a bit..

The problem has to do with the EURO base. After all my testing, this is why I am purely making TMOUS based roms.
XDA Member: Rsotbiemrptson - wrote to me, what discovered that all .RIL files and build prop from TMOUS had to be transferred to the EURO based rom for the speeds to match TMOUS HSPA+ speeds. Then repacked the zip, resigned and flashed.

Hmmm, interesting. Care to share? We could pass it on to LeeDroid for his ROM as well?
I think he is right
I believe the issue lies in not having the correct RIL, along with a few tweaks to the build.prop... Only thing is how do you extract the RIL from the stock ROM? I pulled the files I think go with it from \system\lib and \system\bin but I am kinda scared to flash this zip I made... haha
Oh just an FYI you can run getprop "gsm.version.ril-impl" on the Terminal Emulator and/or ADB shell the stock ROM is HTC-RIL 2.2.0159HMQ so I just need to learn how to pull the needed files and create a flashable zip that would install the correct RIL into a custom ROM... if someone far more experienced could tell me how... or if they just wanted to do it, have at!
Just ran a few Speed Test runs with the new LeeDroid ROM, and my TMOUS 4G speeds seem to be right where they should be for my signal strength here (at 2 bars, I'm getting about 4-5Mbps down, 2-3Mbps up).
I did do a Super Wipe before installing the ROM - could that have been a factor?
I'll try to do some more testing when I'm in a 4-bar signal area, just to be sure.

I have a Samsung Infuse 4G, rooted, CWM installed and just flashed the OC/UV kernel (v1.8) and rebooted. My phone has been stuck on the Samsung screen for 15-20 min now. Any advise?
Hi there, if you are able to get into download mode then you shouldn't have a problem restoring your phone back to stock. Also I think you bricked your phone.
Try getting into download mode by pulling out the battery insert it. Then while holding down both the buttons on the volume rocker and insert your USB. Make sure kies is installed for the drivers.
Maybe try flashing another Kernel before going to the step below.
Also you may check back here to unbrick your phone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116251
Source: I've had this happen to me, its no biggie.
Thanks Sarius24. I did brick it however I was able to load the ROM I installed last night. Now I'm doing a restore from a backup I took just before doing the kernel flash so hopefully it comes back up. It was strange b/c I tried doing just a restore first and it did not work. It still got stuck on the Samsung screen.
That's a froyo kernel and it's not the most recent one either. Also it's not actually 1.8 GHz it was an issue with clock reporting. The hummingbird is not capable of more than 1.6 GHz without bus overclocking which causes more issues and even at 1.6 you need profiles because running GPS and the 3g radio will cause too much heat (my phone used to crash running google navigation but with newer modems and GB it might not be an issue) . many can run 1.6 on wifi with good stability but it's all overrated anyway.
If you are on GB you need a GB kernel. If you are on froyo you need a froyo kernel. If you are on aosp (CM7/MIUI) the included kernel has overclocking.

Thanks for the info Dani897. I'm using Numas vOne ROM and not sure if I'm actually on GB. I think I am. Here's the info -
Firmware version 2.3.6
Baseband version 1997UCKJ2
Kernel version 2.6.35.7-1997RUXKG3-CL366622
Is there a OC kernel for GB? I've not had any luck finding one. I've been searching the forums for a while.
Yes you are on GB ....2.2.xx=froyo, 2.3.xx =GB ..

So where can I get an OC kernel for GB? Do I even need a kernel? I tried using SetCPU (before flashing the 1.8 kernel) and it gave me errors when I tried to run it.
Type "Infusion gingerbread" into the search box in the Dev section. The one that says "search this thread," not the assisted google search on the top of the screen.
I'd give a link but it's annoying from my phone.

If you don't know any of this stuff you shouldn't be flashing!
Start searching, researching and read before attempting something you know nothing of.
YES you Need a kernel
YES you Need a modem
NO you don't Have to be OCed
YES the infuse can be OCed
YES you need compatible kernel to rom build match up I.e. GB to GB and Froyo to froyo not GB to froyo and vice versa.

Thanks Dani897. That did the trick. I actually looked at those kernels earlier but was not sure which one to use as there were 7 or 8 of them. I read the post again and grabbed the one I needed and flashed my phone. It is now OCed and SetCPU is working like a charm.

Can't handle someone speaking the truth huh?? He really is right. You didn't even know if you were on froyo or GB. Please read more. Yes Bignate came across as a rude ass but he's telling you the truth. People don't sugar coat crap around here.

Well I'm not looking for sugar coating but I don't put up with bull**** either. I'm just starting out with this so forgive me if I'm a bit ignorant. I honestly doubt if you or bignate or ANYONE on these forums knew everything there was to know about flashing ROMs or OCing 3 days after you got your first Android. Correct me if I'm wrong please. I doubt I am.
I've been on enough of these threads to know there is always someone out there that just replies to piss people off. bignate is one of them. I chose to ignore him and not pander to his ego.
I'm not saying anymore on this. The whole reason I blocked bignate is because I didn't want to get into some bull**** chest-beating contest with some wise-ass.
I got what I needed and that's what matters.

Well since you can't see what I post I'm still gonna reply in my defence.
For one I didn't try to flash anything on my first android which was a captivate, till I Researched my Ass off so I wouldn't brick or ruin my phone! I'm not trying to get into a chest beating contest but when you start asking if you even need a kernel just clearly shows you have no clue what your doing. Two ,almost every thread says so to read before attempting and also states which system its runs with or for .
But hey, whatever floats your boat kiddo

Ignore him if you want but he's right....if you have no idea what your doing or if you need a kernel(really)than you need to read alot before you flash....this isn't child's play...you can really Jack your phone up if you don't know what your flashing or if you even need it....read

I just wanted to say thanks to guys for the work on ICS on the Captivate. I'm an experienced flasher (almost addicted), and I'm impressed. Thread can be found here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363760
I did a few things little different because I've never quite liked the CM Rom, but that's just me. I flashed mine over Cognition 5v2, but you have to twice. Also, I had to go back and put on the uckb1 modem....and started getting 2 to 3 bars on my signal where I used to never get any, with any phone. Slapped in Contol Freak and overclocked it to 1.3 ghz, Volume Control+ for some volume, and this sucker is blazingly fast, amazingly stable, and makes the Cappy even that much more impressive.
Sad part...two days ago was showing off my Super Soldering skills I did on applying Adam's Unbrickable Mod (yes I had my phone apart with the board in my hand in the middle of Wal-Mart's parking lot) when my screen slid off the car and sadly is now cracked....and it's still amazing!
The crazy crap that happens at Wal*Mart. Wtf lol

I love ICS on my cappy, I used Onecosmic's ICS 4.0.3 RC2.11 for i897 and couldn't be happier, I went from a non-rooted stock 2.3.5 to a rooted ICS and JVT modem which effectively fixed all my GPS woes as well.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1398223
Absolutely love ICS. Thank you to all that worked on it. My phone has been really stable and usable. Love it. I was planning on selling it and invest into something new but not anymore. I'll use it until it dies or someone gifts me a newer phone. **Doesn't happen often.
Thanks again ICS team.

Teamhacksungs ICS build 13 is what I am using now, and it is very stable. The main advantage for myself is the increased battery life, way better stock web browser, among other things, you should give it a try. (I have been using it since way back, like build 3, lol)
They updated today to build 14 but I don't see any improvements in it that are relevant for the way I use the phone, so I am going to skip 14 and see what happens with build 15.
Hope this helps.

Flash back to stock first (I use kh3 one click with cwm) then flash teamhacksung Rom, let boot fully, flash gapps 7.1, reboot and enjoy.
You must flash back to stock gingerbread first cause u probably have voodoo enabled on ur file structure, therefore ics won't install.

Glad it worked out ics is like a totally different experience.
I can't go back to gingerbread after ics, lol. I also found cm7 (181) to be very stable too .
Just be sure before flashing custom roms, its a good idea to keep that one click handy due to differences in file structures, it avoids a lot of frustration.

I did not create "this" and I'm not taking credit for it. This is an awesome kernel created by an awesome dev. I have seen a lot of people asking about where to find this kernel so I asked the dev if I could make this thread to help everyone out over here. I do plan to keep this updated as he updates his OP over on Rootz.
LINK TO ORIGINAL POST ON ROOTZWIKI
This is a kexec Touchwiz test kernel. Use his thread to report bugs, etc.
WARNING: If you're on full stock, you must install busybox first.
DOWNLOAD
latest beta kernel: flashable zip
to return to stock kernel: flashable zip
INSTRUCTIONS
Make sure you're on a recovery that supports auto-flash (any CWM compatible recovery should work - I use v6.0.1.0).
Make sure your ROM has busybox installed properly (otherwise it will bootloop).
Download and flash the zip file in recovery (yup that's it).
Reboot (it will appear to boot twice after that and at every boot).
FEATURES
Unnecessary components removed for lean and fast kernel.
Compiled using latest Linaro compiler with additional optimizations.
Latest Linux updates applied (currently up to 3.0.39).
Ramdisk optimizations.
Kexec (credit goes to Mike Kasick, Austin Dicken, etc.)
OC'ed to 1.9Ghz (limited to 1.51Ghz at boot, use an app to change max freq)
SIO I/O scheduler default
Fast Charge (toggle via the "ffc" script - open terminal, type ffc then enter, plug in phone via USB)
On-demand governor backported from Linux 3.5
CHANGELOG (BETA)
v0.1 (b31fd85c46133f21d3e83d2a5c7d6f94) - initial beta release. Changes from test v12.2.
CHANGELOG (TEST KERNEL)
v10.4 - initial test release
v11.1 (0a169bbc58f7f5b14315f6e2dad47226) - leaner kernel, ondemand governor backported from Linux 3.5, latest interactive governor (not recommended yet)
v12 (8d31143328f19a6183ce6ed50d3f2f76) - fixed default max frequency (really set to 1.51ghz), custom boot animation support, init.d support, Linux 3.0.39 update
v12.2 (3640421cf043e4bdb88de3162c9984fa) - fixed blue LED issue at boot for some ROMs.
TODO
This is alpha/test kernel. More development will come.
Remember this is just a repost of his OP. To get support from the dev you will more than likely have to go over to Rootzwiki to get it. All of the links in this post redirect to the OP on Rootzwiki and not to download links. You will have to go to his OP to download the kernel.

How do I use USB Fast Charge?
1) Unplug from USB cable.
2) Open Terminal Emulator, type "ffc" (without quotes) and enter. This command will toggle your fast charge state.
3) Plug it back in.
Note: running the same command again will disable fast charge.
Also, when fast charge is enabled USB communication will be disabled.
Why KEXEC?
I actually had my own hybrid recovery/kernel method, which was kinda cool. No special kernel modification was necessary, simpler boot hijack, etc. But it did mean that recovery was modified and required flashing into recovery partition for every new version. Plus all the cool cats were using kexec.
I don't mean to be a jerk or step out of place, but ,there really isn't any development here since everything is centered at Rootz. I can certainly understand a DISCUSSION thread in General, but all the actual development is over at Rootzwiki. Why not create a discussion thread in General and allow Imo to make his own thread in development if he so chooses to do so?
That's my 2 cents. Mods feel free to nuke my thoughts here if you'd like.

I didn't want it to get lost in General and I asked him if he wanted me to make one or if he could make one over here for us and he told me to go ahead. I see where you are coming from though.
EDIT: If mods feel this should be elsewhere feel free to move it. I just figured this would be the best place to put it.
Yah i think it will be useful since half of the Rom threads are all about this kernal anyways there taking up way to many pages. There does need to be a seperate thread for it so good ups.
If you did not development nor can support it then it does not belong in Development
Thread moved
Also please show where the original developers authorized you to copy their material and links
Thanks

Does anyone know how to get the phone to charge while it's off on this kernel? My phone will just vibrate but won't charge while off.

I have never tried to charge with the phone off. Beta just released about 20 minutes ago. Try that and see if it fixes it.
EDIT: Might have found the answer over on Rootz.

thanks, trying the beta now
No problem. I have the beta on my phone and it seems really solid so far.
this has already been covered in my guide...i think having multiple guide threadz for each and every rom/kernel is silly and confusing. which is why i made a all in one guide that covers all develpment and tweaks...what not. part of the reason i link to the original dev threads so users can keep up on the lastest there but ask questions in my thread.

I didn't realize there was a link to Imos kernel anywhere except inside of ROM threads so I figured I would duplicate his post here so people here would see. There is a whole lot of people who posted in the Synergy thread that they didn't know where his kernel was or where to find it and things like that. I figured the easiest way would be to have a post on XDA devoted to his kernel. If we had a mega thread of all the root methods, tools, ROMs, kernels, and themes then that would probably be better than this to help people find anything they may need for their phone with very little effort.
I'm assuming this wont work on the cm10 nightlies?
Will kexec kernels still work with an unlocked bootloader

yes. in their current form your device will still boot like 3 times though. There will be no change. In the next few days devs will be unpacking their zips and removing the kexec process. Now they just need to copy over any modules and dd the kernel to mmcblk0p7. But yes, these kernels will still work fine right now.
When the devs repackage them, however, you will no longer have to bootloop 3 times before booting with your custom kernel. it will load on first boot everytime, until you dd the stock kernel back to mmcblk0p7
When I flash nothing happens?
I just put on the Psycho ROM on my i9300 today and wanted to test this kernel out to see what 1.9Ghz feels like. I downloaded both the experimental and stable build.
I flashed the experimental build first, but my Siyah kernel still showed up. So I tried it again, but to no avail. Same incident with the stable build.
I notice when it flashes it seems like less than a second... I downloaded the experimental build v1.7 a few days ago, and its stable build today.
Any ideas?

This kernel is for BML roms. Wifi calling works on those roms because they are stock based.
I'm new to this phone and not sure what bml is or what its used for and is this kernel for ics based roms

New to this phone or not. Search is the best feature on XDA.
If it's not BML, it's MTD. Search the Q&A forum for MTD. There you will find a thread by eollie which quotes the epicmtd thread and a post of mine... here it is:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1699506
(yes, I have answered this question a billion times. Why, because no one searches.)
Edit: No, this will not work with MTD roms, like CM7, CM9, AOKP, SlimICS, etc... This will work with Valhalla, Valhalla Black, Unnamed, Stock UVKJ6 based roms.

Edit: nevermind i read the info on the link you provided and it looks like ics isnt possible on bml
Belongs in Dev?

I first want to than you for your support on a "update for a BML kernel".
i think it belongs in dev but still don't have enough posts to post.
I ran into a few issues with no log cat because of hardware freeze.
1st Tegrak will not load module for custom tweaks. Hardware failure vibrates indefinitely, and battery pull needed. works fine if you don't try and tweak. running 1.4 GHz without optimization works fine but can't underclock because of issue. the screen freezes and becomes pixilated.
restoring from nano backup finishes but stays at gs4g boot screen for t mobile
nano restore might be user error. i just factory reset and restored from there using the one click. restoring nano after one clicking resulted in same boot screen freeze as original
im sorry i don't have log cats but i hope i can provide further information if requested.
running latest Valhalla Black Edition with 1.3 OC undervolted
created backup with VB kernel recovery
booted fine with first flash of kernel running at 1.4
tried tegrak to underclock 1.4 and hardware froze with pixilation of screen in very light but noticable amount
reboot
wifi fix didn't work with flashing with cwm, suceeded with flash just no end result
tried to recover using cwm recovery with modded kernel caused boot freeze
one clicked back with no problems
i love this forum and want to try and provide feedback when possible, thank you for all you have accomplished over the years and i can't wait to see the perfect kernel and modem for ics. FB i love the AOKP. Unicorn Power!!! thank you all for all of your awesome work.
Ughhhh..... Lets break this one down, bit by bit.

Tegrak will not work. This kernel is already OC/UV. You just need setcpu or rom toolbox to set the cpu speed.

I don't even understand this stuff. You should work on making yourself more clear with ENGLISH grammar. Spell check helps too. Not trying to be a jerk, it's just hard as hell to read.

My crystal ball says: you are younger then 17yo.
You just cleared up a bunch of crap for me... no I'm not 17 I'm 23... was just tired and my battery doesnt hold a charge on the laptop, it shut off a few times before I could post. That was some info and things I had installed and tried to do... Like I said probably user error, I was extremely tired and forgot to wipe my phone first... Ill try and learn from my mistakes. And I'm sorry I forget there is a thanks button...

I'm just saying. Everything you type is one long run-on sentence.
Notice how I break mine up.
It makes what you are saying easier to convey to others.
Don't worry. I was tired and grumpy
So what we learned:
Type like you're writing a letter
Don't use nano backup
Download alogcat/alogrec
Wiping cache and dalvik is fine, don't always need to wipe data, but sometimes you do.
I get grumpy sometimes too
Is this the kind of battery life we can expect for the mtd version of this kernel and/or the aries kernel port? I noticed this does have some things from aries (per Github History). The battery life with this kernel is epic, better than anything else I've used.
Thanks,
David
We don't know what kind of battery life you will expect from the ICS kernel because no one has tested the ICS kernel because bryan hasn't finished creating it yet. If and when it's released you'll get to see what kind of battery life you get with the way you use your own phone.

There is a reason for calling this kernel BlastOff. It's going to go through the galaxy of snacks Google has named their Android releases. It's starting off on Planet Gingerbread, BML style.
Eventually, if the stars align, it will end up reincarnated as MTD on Planet Gingerbread.
After reincarnation, it will head towards planet ICS... and on and on...
For now, we are still packing the ship with goodies. OC/UV, governers, I/O schedulers, mmc changes, and bcm4329 have already been packed. But I'm still adding more!
So for the medium term, this kernel will stay BML. You may see me experiment with MTD, but I would stay away from that stuff and stick with the BML kernel for now.
Enjoy my naming scheme.

No need for that kind of reply, I was simply asking a question. From what I can tell, this does use bits and pieces from Aries and that's what prompted the question. I didn't ask for an eta or anything to that affect. I also know that battery life is dependent on usage, but I know for a fact that on gingerbread the standby time is leaps and bounds better than what we have for ics (currently) (for most users) . It's even been mentioned that the kernel for ics had some battery draining issues by Bryan himself.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
That "kind of reply" was merited. Like I said in that post, we're not gonna know how the battery will be until the kernel gets created and tested. I can give you a prediction and tell you that it'll last you 10 days with heavy usage but I may be wrong.
We won't know until we test it.
BTW, unnamed - bhundven edition has been posted to the teamacid github.
I'm not making an official zip yet, as we have some bugs still to work out, but if you want a rom to play around with the new kernel, git clone it and run the mkzip.sh.
Let me know what you think, if you feel so daring
(again, disclaimer, I'm not responsible for messing your phone up, thats your problem. This rom has been tested and won't brick you, unless you do something stupid. This rom will not work with any other kernel, for now.)
