[Q] No Wi-Fi or bluetooth? - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

After restoring to stock with a Heimdall one-click (KJ1), my Bluetooth and Wi-fi have stopped working. About phone shows that their MAC addresses aren't known and turning on Wi-fi gives me an error (the box just says "Error"). The cell radio and data works fine.
Is there any way to fix it or is it a hardware problem?j

Is your IMEI correct? Don't post it here but does it correspond to what it says under your battery?

It does match the sticker.

I would re-flash using the KJ6 firmware.
Use: Download Fully Back-To-Stock UVKJ6
from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358498
And you should before anything - BACK UP YOUR EFS FOLDER!
First link in my signature will give you directions how to do so.

Still not working, I'm afraid. I tried flashing with and without bootloaders—both yield the same result. Wi-fi won't turn on and BT & Wi-fi MAC addresses are shown as Unavailable under About phone.
Strangely enough (while backing up my ESN) I noticed there's a file named bt_addr.txt in the /efs folder that has the Bluetooth MAC in it (8C:71:F8:XX:XX:XX - the vendor prefix is the correct one for Samsung). Really weird.
Any ideas?

I wonder if the 10-15 minute battery pull would help? I know some have said it helped them when their IMEI seemed to be wiped out; it may be worth a shot here.

Did it and the problem still persists. Is it a lost cause by now?

One solution to Android Wifi "Error" or "Turning on..." - XDA Thread
[MOD] GB Wifi improvement! [CWM Flashable Added!] - GS4G thread (some reported improvements on KJ6.
[Odin/CWM] Modems (10/29/2011 added KJ6 modem) - Not 100% sure but I think WiFi is controlled by the modem - try a different one.
Have you done a factory reset?

Ive been having a problem with my bluetooth not working properly. It wont connect unless I attempt after restarting the phone. That thread suggests it is because of low memory, it makes sense. But My question is does the kernel affect this?

Wifi error/not working Sensation ICS 6.5.1

When I first booted up WiFi worked for about 2 minutes. Found my home network, connected...appeared all was well.
Then suddenly it stopped and now it'll just read Turning Wi-Fi On... indefinitely. Eventually it'll say error.
Originally superwiped before flashing ROM, flashed the suggested radio.
I tried clearing cache and dalvik, didn't help.
My phone hates wifi apparently. Wi-Fi being junk is the reason I rooted in the first place. Was hoping this'd fix it. The fact that it's "intermittent" makes me wonder if it really is a hardware fault.
Any ideas?
Android Version: 4.0.3
Sense: 3.6

Kernel: 3.0.16 SebastionFM #1
Hboot- 1.27.1100
Radio- 11.22.3504.07_M
Tried a factory restart w/ sim pulled, still nothing.
The odd thing is how it worked at first when I booted up..then stopped functioning alltogether.
I had the EXACT same thing happen to me this morning. I went to bed last night and wifi was working great. This morning when I took it off the charger I noticed that wifi wasn't running. Tried turning it on an it wouldn't turn on. I thought it may be a glitch so I tried restarting. No change. Realized I had fastboot checked so restarted without it. No change.
If I go to the Settings menu under the icon to switch on wifi it says error. When I try and turn it on it has the message about turning on wifi for a few minutes and then the switch turns off. I also noticed that it is draining my battery VERY fast (most likely because it is continually trying to to turn on wifi)
Not sure what happened or what would cause this. I'm running ARHD 6.2.1.
I was planning on upgrading this afternoon after work to 6.5.1. Hopefully this new wifi issue doesn't get in the way of that...
Any help would be appreciated.

You need to update your firmware first!
In ARHD thread Mike1986 states: 3.32.401.x firmware is required! So go to this tread and get the necessary firmware and you wouldn't have any wifi issues.
I'm also running 6.5.1 and have wifi on for almost the entire day without any problems!
Thanks for the reply BioTeck. I can't speak for BrokenWiFi but for me I've been running on 6.2.1 for about 2 weeks no (with the suggested firmware for that version) and haven't had a problem. Then all of the sudden this morning it started having this problem.
Any suggestions on what I can try? This evening I plan on upgrading firmware to latest as well as upgrading to 6.5.1 so I'm hoping that helps but are there any other suggestions I can try?

If I were you I would try to flash the latest version of ARHD 6.5.1 and see how that goes? For me 6.5.1 is rock stable, fast and it feels smooth!

I did update it originally.
I decided to go through again...I just downloaded 3.32.401 from that thread...flashed it, superwiped and installed ROM. Still no dice. It reads all the same as it did before in the "software information" area.
I don't think I could have booted w/o that firmware correct? I'm coming from gingerbread originally...
Am I missing something?
Thanks a ton for helping me, I really really really really appreciate it.
Strange.... Apparently it's an ICS bug and has been posted here!

On the ARHD thread, there seems other to have the same problem. Some of them solved the problem by reflashing. Perhaps you can try that as well and post this problem in ARHD's thread as well...

This happen to me way way long ago, back during the series 3 ARHD. After going through many things, a simple rom reflash fixed it for me.
I was never able to figure out why. I asked around in here and else where and there were some talk of it back then with a few tips for solution, which did not work.
As far as I could tell, that was the only time ever that I flashed a rom without turning off wifi before rebooting into recovery. I have since then diligently turn off wifi before flashing anything. Never encountered the problem again.
P.s. I recalled reading something about how the wifi is stuck on "On", while the rom trying to turn something that's already On, On and errored itself.

Wanted to update on my progress. I solved the issue on my phone:
I was messing around with it today while waiting for a meeting to start and I found where the wifi settings, etc are stored. It ended up being a corrupt/invalid wpa_supplicant.conf file. All I had to do was pull that file out from the directory and turn on wifi and *poof* it worked again. When I turned wifi on it created a new file and everything has been great so far this afternoon.
In case anyone wants to give it a shot who is having wifi issues you can find the wpa_supplicant.conf file in /data/misc/wifi/ directory on your phone. Simply cut/rename the file and put it somewhere else. If you have wifi passwords you want to save, you can open the original file using a text editor and copy the settings over to the new file.
I believe the cause of my issue was actually Titanium Backup. Looking at the last time it backed up my wifi settings was back when I wasn't running ICS yet. Yesterday I did restore an app using it and must have accidentally restored that old backup. Their formats are different from Gingerbread to ICS apparently and it was causing errors.

Unfortunately after reading your latest post, Broken WiFi, I don't know that the fix that worked for me applies to you but just in case --> Are you using (or did you use) Titanium Backup to restore any of your apps? Is it possible you have a corrupt file as well? Obviously you are wiping out that file when you superwipe so I don't think you have the same issue but it is probably worth checking.
Funny, it worked!
I had a feeling the supplicant was the problem..
In my last rom it wouldn't let me touch anything in /data even though I was SU and S-OFF.....
So I'd just delete the one in /system... but it never helped.
Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooohooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Seriously, I've spent like 15 hours troubleshooting this...reading every thread on the net.
Never thought to try and delete the one in /data in this rom.
THANK YOU so very very much.
I can't post in DEV, but maybe you could let some people know over there that it's a fix.
I copied wpa_supplicant.conf from gb miui and it seems to be working for now, will test it some more..
Sounds like hardware..I had a problem with what turned out to be the battery cover, it has the antennas built in to it.. changed this and was good again. Worked for me..

One thing you might try doing is deleting it and then try restarting the phone. That would be the next step I would do. If it doesn't work then you might have to start looking into a hardware or rom issue.
After you try deleting and then restart if that doesn't work I'd back everything up and try flashing your rom again.

I did try to cut/delete/rename the file through ES File Explorer and Super manager but the file doesn't move/delete/rename. Plus for some reason this file is under "/etc/wifi/" instead of "/data/misc/wifi/" /data is an empty folder in my phone. Maybe you are using different explorer?
By the way , I've updated my phone with OTA_PYRAMID_ICS_HTC_Europe_3.32.401.5-1.50.401.1_P_release_246627z7pljztztog0er50. I've deleted the file and restarted many times, Wifi will say OFF or ERROR, i will try to turn it on and the same problem occurs, stuck saying "turning on". I've reflashed rom and firmware many times using different kernels and techniques etc. I can't believe it to be hardware related as everything was fine with version 6.3.1 and firmware 3.30... then updated to 6.5.1 and 3.32.. fine again however a couple of hours later WiFi was off and continued to say "turning on". I'm going to try to downgrade to 6.3.1 and 3.30 again to see if that helps..
I've having the same problem. I updated to firmware 3.32 and ROM ARHD 6.5.1 last Saturday and WiFi seemed to be working until yesterday. Today it won't work at all - I can't make or receive calls and had to move the SIM card to a Blackberry curve so I could get some work done.
Tonight I tried deleting the wifi supplicant file posted earlier and that seems to help for one or two calls then it's back to no calls at all. So then I wiped the cache and devlik cache and tried again. That may have helped, but I'm not sure yet.
I'm starting to see a real trend in these WiFi issues. There have been a lot of threads about it lately. I don't know what is causing the problem though.
I had my WiFi shut off again today with the same issue. The fix I posted earlier worked again but having to do this every few days is not going to be acceptable...
I REALLY am enjoying ics and arhd 6 but I'm afraid between this WiFi problem and the fact that T-Mobile WiFi calling doesnt work I might be going back to gingerbread...

WiFi connectivity issue?!

wasnt really sure how to title this...
But recently i lost wifi connectivity when applying a few mods, so i removed them & was able to reconnect... sort-of...
1.) in the 'WiFi options" it says im connected, the icon in the notification bar shows im connected and drops mobile-data... but when trying to do anything that involves the internet: Reddit, Youtube, Phandroid, XDA, Pulse-News, ect... i have no connection... But what's weird is, is that when i run a speed test, it gets signal and runs the test just fine. Also And-SMB connects, as well as Fing, and Network-Info-2. they all get an IP and mac address... WTH!?
2.) when turning on the WiFi, it will say "obtaining IP address" after about a minute or so of that, it drops to "remembered" then tries rescanning, and tries to connect again, then drops it again... and this will go on forever, untill i shut the wifi off...
------------------
tried running Qkster's-WiFi-Fix (in CWM) to see if that would fix anything... still in the same boat...
- any suggestions?
What Rom are you running? It seems the mods borked it. Try reflashing

wifi fix sometime works...sometimes not.
this wifi issue is seen when switching between rom with changes to file system.
won't see it with eman to aeon or zeus.
will see it with stock rfs to voodoo ext4. cm9 ext4 to cm10 mtd. cm10 Mtd to gb rfs or ext4. etc.
good wipes and factory, data reset helps.
if you wipe and reset and reflash and it didn't help, you will need to Odin or heimdall to stock with repartition

well the Wifi-Fix seemed to fix it, but ive been running on MoM since 1.3 hit the lot. and there is a weird issue that when the phone first boots, the icons in the noti-bar are blue, then after the device goes to sleep or sits idle for too long, they wont turn back to blue... mobile-data continues to work and everything runs prefect, but wifi wont connect unless i either reboot, or set in airplane-mode for 20+ seconds, then swap strait to wifi from there.. and once the wifi is connected, it shuts off completely if i let the phone go to sleep.

Almost same here, I'm currently on unmodified 8/16 with inverted apps but the WiFi & Bluetooth is not functioning as it was back on MIUI v4. It started from the first flash of JB 4.1.1 CM10 and continued till now.
I tried ODIN back to stock roms using .pit with both FROYO, GB and a few different ROMs back and forth already with no luck. flashed back to CM10 from ICS following directions EXACTLY (the flashing instructions are crystal clear to me and I'm confident that I followed them 100% each time). Tried a few wifi fix apps already. Nothing worked.
Unlike others, at least on CM10 the wifi sometime (!rarely, when I press wifi ON from settings and keep it sitting for a long time like overnight ! and wifi does NOT switch on every time) comes to life and finds my DHCP enabled netgear router at home, but as I put my WPA2-PSK security code it accepts then just sits there saying remembered/saved. No connection done or getting IP address, nothing. Tried the same without security also. Can't browse either.
I can see the wifi MAC id in the settings though, NOT the network IP, can't set direct IP. Most interesting part is that it scans and finds networks as mentioned above. So, can't say the hardware is broken !!

WiFi not working.

Hey guys !
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 But the WiFi is not working.
It worked fine till yesterday but stopped working all of a sudden.
At first i thought it was a software Problem ( : I was running a CM12.1 based Custom Rom) so i reverted back to stock ROM but still not Fixed.
The WiFi does not Turn on.
The icon stays there for a few seconds but does not turn on.
Any help Would be appreciated.
Note: Previously it showed WiFi Mac Address & IP Address Not Available. After reverting to stock ROM it shows Mac Address but no IP Address.
P.S: XDA is not allowing outside links here if you want to see what happens PM me I'll send you the screen shots

It doesnt show any change in the Doms Diagnostic App. It is unable to turn on the WiFi maybe a Hardware problem.
Thanks For Your help though
The first action you should flash the phone.
You must test your software.
If the software is sure that there is no problem
Then the problem is hardware.

Wifi mac address changed to 02:00:00:00: and stucked at wifi turning on

Wifi is stucked at turning on.... It never turns on.
The mac address is also changed to 02:00:00:... Previously it was something d9:..... It dont remember that.
I saw a youtube video how to fix that https://youtu.be/RHGQn0Av2hI it says that i have to put some file named Wcxxxxxxxxx.bin in root /persist
But when i open persist folder there are no of folders and at the end wifi. But in video of moto g it didnt have any folder. So i placed file in /persist but that didnt help.

I installed certificate from adclear app and rebooted. The reboot was stucked at google logo for around 60-90 seconds and then boot animation started.
i started cleaning my interner storage as i was preparing to backup on pc and flash mra58k image. And uninstalled android authority app. And deleting all the folders that were just eating space.

I wiped befire flahing kernel.
Also tried paranoid v4.45 kitkat rom but in that also wifi didnt worked.
It's not software. It's failing hardware. Your Bluetooth will also stop working, as it's the same chip. Mine does the same thing. I've flashed multiple ROMs and tried changing wifi system files. Nothing has helped...
Sent from my TARDIS
I bought my Nexus 5 the first month it came out. Since then I have never touched the original system or even root it. About a month ago my wifi suddenly stopped working. I have decided to root and flash roms, after factory reset and basic solutions on google didn't work. I have tried a couple of different roms all on android 6 and 7. Wifi still not working. I havent tried flashing kernel and I don't have a file called /persist in the main directory...
EDIT: Cellular data & Bluetooth working.
If changing software and resetting doesn't fix the wifi problem, it's probably a defective wifi chip. I have two nexus 5 motherboards in my desk drawer with no wifi (tries turn on but never does or turns on then off by itself) but cell and Bluetooth work.

solved: lost wifi while rooting, can I reflash modem and get it back?

So I updated to 11.0.08.14.KB05BA.
I then rooted using the guide here, via Magisk
Rooted, everything works, except:
My wifi connection will not turn on (let alone connect).
I hit the wifi icon, it "turns on" and then "turns off"
I go to the wifi settings and hit the bar to turn it on. it stays red, but no wifi connections are made.
I tried to reset the wifi, mobile, data setting under systems, nothing changed
I tried to reflash the patched boot file without any change.
so my question is, can I fix it by:
A. flashing the stock modem.img? and if so what is the correct adb text (fastboot flash modem modem.img?)
tried it, no change, so I guess I have my answer
B. reflashing stock everything and starting a new root with Magisk and hope it works a second time (i.e. start over)
Yup. Problem that the stock version on the OP website is not the same file as Oxygen Updater "Stock version". No clue. Got the boot from the Oxygen updater version and will try it with it now.
Fixed: all good now. I will delete this this post in a moment.
Thanks @parakleet
With my thanks,

I am guessing you flashed something that was modified or possibly images for a different model.
I think the only solution sure to resolve your issue is to return to the stock image of your device.
anyone know how to delete a thread?

Don't delete it. You're journey will help others avoid the problem or help them get out of it if they do the same thing you did.

as he gave me a thumbs up I assume he MSM'd his way back to stock images
But I agree knowledge gained would be helpful
