This is the error I'm getting when trying to install some apks. A lot of others worked but some just won't. It's a new phone and a fresh ROM. Why is this happening? What do I do about it?

What is the name of the app? Did you downloaded it from Play or was it an apk file? Info please

One of the apps which did it was Battery Widget Reborn. I initially tried installing it via .apk and got the error. Then the same app normally installed via Play store.

Got a few apps from a friend, since I had no internet access (no data plan and no wifi) at the moment.

The same app installed from Play Store, works. What do you mean by setting the permissions?

Not trying to be snarky, but what good is a smartphone without internet access? Sounds like a $400 paperweight. Are you running a virus scanner that could possibly be blocking sideloading?

I do have wifi access now and a (very limited) data plan. And I have no virus scanners.

Download file manager. Enable root in settings. Try pushing it to system/app. Restart and see if it works then

I'm having a similar issue. I've been using a slingplayer app that I downloaded over two years ago. I had it working on my Nexus 5 until I switched to ART. After the switch it wouldn't install. I switched back to Dalvik and now it won't reinstall. I can and have installed every other apk on my phone with no problem since switching back except for this one. Any suggestions?

Tried that and it didn't work, but...
PROBLEM SOLVED! What I did was to do a thorough search inside my root to find anything related to the app I was trying to install. I found out that the app has somewhat partially installed in few places. I then deleted all of those and tried installing again. Worked.

I also tried switching between Dalvik and ART but it didn't seem to change anything. I suggest you search your root for any remnants of the app you want to install. Look in data/app, data/app-lib, data/data and system/app.
Hi,
I got my new Nexus 5 today and was wondering if I can make backups of my data on the S3 and restore them on the Nexus 5. Should this work?
Thanks
Matt

Sure, but don`t restore system apps, only downloaded user apps and data. I wouldn`t backup (live) wallpapers also because of the resolution.

They will adapt to the resolution automaticaly if they are compatible with 4.4.2 or ART runtime if you use that off course.

Anyone have smart manager Pre-installed? Does it only come with international phone? I check my system/priv-app I see that I have folder call SmartManager_PROVIDER and in that I have SmartManager_PROVIDER.APK but can't install it. I have ATT note 5.
Yes, it comes installed on the W8 version of the phone (Canada). It's some sort of gimmicky phone cleaner app. I disabled it using Package Disabler. You're not missing out.

nothing is out yet, only think i see root for is SM-N920T/P
This is what I see from file manager.
Have it on t mobile. I like it. Allows you to select apps you want to stop running in the background and its linked to battery stats so only way to see them in settings on the phone.

ATT they removed it. can anyone share the apk file?
@vietnight
the functionality of smart manager is tied to clean master also... so you need both apks installed
try this link https://drive.google.com/folder/d/0B3w-dFE5Q3FOZkVwcEJUQ2NyOGs/edit

thanks dandroid7!
doesn't work on Verizon Note 5
Not working on Verizon Note 5
Smart Manager is good. It has 4 sections(Battery, Storage, RAM, Security)
Battery section allows you to control battery by bringing all battery related settings together.
RAM section You can choose, which applications should be running or not in back ground,
Storage section - It allows you to clear junk files / unnecessary files (Only this is powered by clean master, though you don't have to install it separately)
Security - brings all Knox security settings here.

Native Huawei covers pretty much everything except Wi-Fi. If you don't have root it's very convenient.

You mean the hisuite? Or the backup/recovery tool built in the phone? My phone is not rooted.
The stock Backup app is also great.

No, it's Huawei Backup. You should have it installed on your phone and available at Google Play.

Try the Huawei Phone Clone app. It uses WiFi direct to transfer apps, media, messages and more from one device to another.

Both of them are good in backup.
I would go with Huawei backup and keep a copy as I always do. That way if something goes wrong I have a copy outside any device I'm fiddling with.
SHAREit also has data cloning capabilities.

Just keep the backup in a safe place in case there's a problem with any of the phones.
