Lately every time I reboot my phone, an ad appears in my notification bar. And now one just popped up without even a reboot. Could anyone tell me why these might be appearing?
I've got a thunderbolt running ThunderShed v1.3 CM7.2.0 RC1. I also run ad-free and its up to date.

There's been a number of posts about this. Its an advertising system called air push. Use add on detector from android market to identify the app and uninstall it.
Ad blockers won't block them.

Seems generic as hell, I know. Fyi: The icon looks like a pc tower with a pie chart in front of it.

thats stock in samsung 2.2
LOL. Its androids 2.2 native task manager. I only laugh because I thought the same thing when the first froyo leak dropped way back. Generic looking is the perfect way to describe it.

Hah! That explains why I froze in recovery after trying to wipe it with tibu. When it refused to run along I kinda figured it was native

Hi, recently I've noticed everytime I boot my phone up, I find a blue star on the status bar and when I pull it down it's always something different. Currently it says "BLOCK Ads Now! Scan Now (Free)"
I did a virus scan with avg, avast, and lookout and got nothing. It's really annoying, I've cleared all caches, browser history, everything. What can I do?

They are airpush ads. You installed an app that uses the airpush AD network. Virus software or malware scanners won't pick this up as a virus....cuz....it isn't a virus, just annoying.

That makes sense, any way of removing it?

Uninstall whatever app is causing the problem.
I had that because of a theme for Go Launcher (Go ICS Theme, to be exact), uninstalling it seems to have fixed the issue.
Addons Detector (free in Market) will show what is pushing ads.... also, AppBrain App Market app now includes an Ad detector as well.

Does anyone know how to make an application that will not allow Facebook to be installed? I might be interested in purchasing an application like this or making 1

If you don't want a particular app then don't install it. There's probably no way to block installation of a given app.

What he said. Is there a particular reason you want to block the installation of Facebook?

Though if you had a vendetta (and a rooted phone), you could always just put a Facebook catch-all into your hosts file to black-hole attempts to reach them. Wouldn't stop the app, would stop it from ever actually working and any website connecting there.
I think you would need to sign up for a MDM service. There a few of them out there and they should be able to either block apps from being installed or automatically uninstall it if it gets installed.

Haha sorry I was just kidding but also wondering. Yeah I know how to install apps or not. I was thinking of an app that you can download and then when you did want to download facebook it wouldn't let you. Its really just a joke brotherhood. I don't have a Facebook problem but I see one developing lol.

why would you need that?
I just recently started getting this notification in my notification bar:
It is a red star and when I pull down the notifications it states: Increase Speed here, optout: xapus... and that is all I can see. If I click on it it takes me to a page advertising "Boost Your Signal!". When you click on that it takes you to the playstore for an app called Signal Booster from Fred Baker.
I consider this spam but don't know how to get rid of it.
I am currently running Hyperdrive 12 with Zeus kernal.
Thanks,
Glenn
Download AirPush Detector in the store, that should be able to locate the offending app.

I always leave a 1 star review for airpush apps and delete. Garbage.

Ad Blocking apps also help (even though I think they're rather unethical)
