[kernel][cwm] kb5 custom - allows bootanimation.zip (6.10.11)

Thought some of you might want to see some custom boot animations(like on TRIGGER)!!!
This is the KB5 kernel that Krylon360 modded to allow bootanimation.zip... I just made it cwm flashable. should work flashed over any rom.
Instructions:
Delete the bootsamsung.qmg & bootsamsungloop.qmg files from /system/media
Push a custom bootanimation.zip to /system/media
Delete the PowerOn.wav file from /system/etc
Quickboot to recovery
Flash KB5CUSTOMKERNEL.ZIP
Reboot!

IF FLASHING OVER A ROM THAT ALREADY HAS A CUSTOM BOOT ANIMATION (LIKE TRIGGER) JUST FLASH KERNEL AND REBOOT.

also there is another file called bootsamsungloop.qmg do we delete that?

nope they are 2 different kernels which will override each other...sorry bud for now its 1 or the other

You're right... One kernel at a time...
Yes u can use this kernel with the kd1 rom. This can be flashed over ANY ROM.

oh yeah...i thought he meant like flashing over the bali kernel sorry

Ya, at this stage, if you flash a new kernel....it overwrites the one your using now. @robbbbit will have to implement these changes to each kernel individually. The only way I know of to overwrite a kernel is if its essentially the same kernel with minor changes. It's impossible (from what I know) to take parts of one and add to another...without building it from source.

Yeah... Can't exhange parts. Just tweakage. Lol, i cant believe im even using this instead of bali(no uv). i just love bootanimations... Har.

I know that we now have two custom roms now, but i think it would be good to have the options just like the modems. I cant believe were finally getting there! im so excited!!
how can i open the kernel to modify/compare? Id like to try and help.

Would have to do it from source I believe. Decompile to make changes, or compile from scratch. I don't know of any other way to make kernel changes.

The new Bali 2.1 supports custom bootanimations which I'm using right now I love not having that stupid T-Mobile boot up

Going back to froyo

Ok sorry to make another post regarding this but will probably be my last. Just wondering if some1 could post a link to the froyo ROM with froyo bootloaders? Thanks in advance. And yes I searched but couldnt find it.

Why would you wan't to go to Froyo. Other than for warranty reasons?
Here is the link. Thank god I remember one of ravers first posts when we had bad gb boot loaders with out recovery. He was "hacking" boot loaders and trying to add recovery command. Well, he failed, and in order to get froyo bls back, he posted a big link to the original KC1 leak, which happened to contain the original KB5 trough KD1 boot loaders. I extracted those and am currently uploading them. Give the link 5 minutes to let the link up.

Flashing with rom manager

Will flashing a rom from rom manager work with the t959v? I use it all the time with the vibrant 3g, just curious about the 4g!

ok let me reprhase that yes u can use rom manger but no it doesnt work lol but it will run lol and will cause 10000x more issues then just using cwm final by krylon or honk /krylons cwm built directly into the kernel

Yeah I've read that in other threads. Still kind of confused on the whole process, but I still have alot more reading before I start rooting and flashing roms on the vibrant 4g.

Flash Da_G's kernel its really good. After flashing the kernel if you get SOD aka sleep of death than follow the instruction here.

UCKD5,DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO EXTRACT THE MODEM OUT OF A TAR FILE AND MAKE IT INTO A STAND ALONE ZIP FILE TO FLASH INSTALL? SORY FOR THE NOOB QUESTION,BUT IT SEEMS THAT IS THE ONLY MODEM WHICH WILL WORK PROPERLY ON MY i997 NO MATTER WHICH ROM I USE.. CURENTLY RUNING DLevROM NOW. Easiest way would be to download a ROM that has the modem you want... Unzip the ROM into a folder and open it up.. There is a folder in there called "updates". Double click that folder and there are 2 files you need... redbend_ua and modem.bin. Now you need to create a folder doesnt matter what you name it.. within that folder create 2 new folders.. META-INF and updates. The modem and redbend_ua files go into the updates folder. The META-INF is going to be the folder that contains signature and updater script and update binary.. which in short is what tells cwm what to install and where to install it .... This is something that id highly recommend researching before you try it..
Just to emphasize... if you dont know what your doing you may be finding out what heimdell one click and odin are about..

Alot of people, including myself will disagree with you saying that UCLB3 is better... There are others that are more stable and have better battery life... for example uckl2... It all comes down to personal preference and what works for you.

Battery life's been bad all the time so I don't even consider that anymore. I'm coming from an iphone that would last a helluva lot longer Lol.

Ucklb3 and uckl2 both are having issues with my device..the UCKD5 seems to be the only modem that works flawlessly with my device.. dont have any clue why.. i think my i997 is possesed
