Does anybody have any input regarding the Youtube update on March 1st? I was wondering whether we can stream HD quality on Youtube on our phone with this update and whether or not it's worth the update at all. I'm using the version that was originally installed on this phone with no problems. Any glitches with the new version?
I'm using the latest build and feels snappier. However, as for the HD, i would say since our device screen resolution isn't HD don't expect it to show HD. The HQ videos are looking less pixely though. Correct me, if i wrong.

Working good on my phone
Well, some update. Apparently there is a modified version of the YouTube app and it is indeed working in HD. Noticeable picture quality improvement. Check out this thread for the apk:

Require Login?
The gmail account I use for my G2X does not have a YouTube account associated with it.
Does the Mar 1 YouTube update require logging into YouTube?
No you don't need to log into youtube on the update, and I it is smoother and cleaner interface than the original version on the phone.

I can't find it. What is it?
Who knows? But it's amazing!!
The wait is over!!! The #1 online destination for music videos is now on your Android phone VEVO lol
Is vevo is **** that is all over youtube music videos
4gCM7
I can't find it in the european market (spanish at least). Can you share the .apk?
Thanks!
Thanks! Too bad there's now video commercials between videos though
For those who don't know what this is:
http://www.vevo.com/
It's like youtube for artists' videos.
Its only for USA i think
Very nice app so far.
Minor annoyance is that there doesn't appear to be a way to default it to HQ. The video has to buffer, then start, then you click HQ, then buffer a little more, then plays.
Maybe they do that so that people who don't know any better just play the video without HQ and they save on the bandwidth?
Can someone post the .apk? I am in the US, but since I am using a Brasil Milestone2 I do not see this application in the market. If this is a paid app then nevermind. I am not trying to pirate anything, just would like to try this out.
it seems it was removed from market as fast as it was posted
You sure? Still listed on appbrain

This app didn't work well for me at all. It likes to force close, alot. Like someone already said if you wunna watch in hd you hafta wait for it to buffer and then hit the "hd" button and then wait for it to restart buffering and then you can watch. But even once the hd video was loaded I wasint impressed, it still didn't look very good on my phone. I'm using a droid X 2.2.1

First of all this board is great! Thank you!!!
I bought two gtablets last week and already modded one with TNTlite 4.4, and the other one still with stock ROM. I was going to give one to my mom.
After I play the same video and compare side by side, I noticed the significant difference in resolutions. Tablet with stock ROM has much better resolution than modded TNT4.4. Did I mess it up when I was modding?
Browser
I did some more testing and it appears to be the issue with browser. I played the same video HD trailer of Captain America on browser youtube vs Youtube App. There is a night and day differences in two.
Youtube App - no pixelation.
Browswer Youtube - tons of pixlations.
Any advices or suggestions?
Any advice before I change my ROM from TNTlite to VEGAN? That pixelation on flash video on browser is driving me nut.
Again, it's no issue with youtube native app, and it's only happening in browser.
Try changing your browser settings to PC instead of android. Might help.

It's already desktop mode if that is what you mean. I even have flash player 10.2.
Is it just me or does the transformer have serious lag when playing high quality YouTube videos full screen? Just got my tablet yesterday and that is really my only complaint so far.
Thanks
yes but not only full screen. I'm getting lag in the smaller window as well
I noticed that there was an update to flash 10.2 yesterday. In the change log it said that hardware acceleration had been added, but requires an upcoming release of Android 3. Hopefully that will cure it.

Same here. I hope they get the video bugs worked out soon. i'm getting annoyed that i cannot watch any HD video in fullscreen.

Same here. Annoying and kind of embarrassing to show it to my friend that has an ipad 2. I hope the HD video will improve as wel.
Edit:
I'm not tying to compete which device is better. I just want to have a device where I can enjoy it.
Does anybody noticed that if you leave the screen untouched for several seconds, when you touch the screen again it won't respond the first touch?
I thought I was the only one, but apparently there are more people with this problem. I have it too in both the smaller and fullscreen window. If you don't touch the device a few seconds it gets better, but there is still at some points a noticeable lag. Very annoying!

Youtube.com is using the flash player, and this will be a bit stuttery - especially for HD videos. But the App should be using h264 encoded video so playback should be 'native'.
I have had some videos be a bit choppy via the app, but most play fine.
the youtube website works fine for me when viewing up to 420p, anything over that is stuttery.
I'm sure Google will announce an update to HoneyComb in the next week during Google IO

I checked the same video on youtube.com and the youtube app. Youtube app displays the video perfectly well in SD, but in HD it gets a slight lag. On youtube.com it plays well on 480p but above that it gets unwatchable.
I get just a slight stutter in the first 5 sec then smooth HD playback for me on youtube. The "HD" is lit up.

i know what you are talking about.
although its not that it wont recognize the first touch, you just have to touch it .5 ms longer and it will respond. I think its either a power saving mechanism or prevent you from accidental touch on the screen.
It bothered me at first but trust me, after about a week you wont either notice it anymore, you simply get used to it.
could you guys check this video out and see if it lag too.

Stutters on full screen, but not smaller. Used Youtube app from main screen. TF 101 32 GB. Full update.

so which is it, hardware or software that is causing it? I'm tempted to go I pad just cause their ui and multimedia is so fluid. I like androids customizability so another alternative is to see how tegra 3 tablets will perform.
No stutter for me opened in YouTube app and browser HQ button illuminated, using Uk tranny with update.
As I'm sure some of you know, some android devices have a YouTube HD app, apparently our YouTube app only shows "HQ" which isn't the best quality available, I'm wondering if anyone out there know of a way to watch YouTube in full HD, any ideas?

So I have a cheap budget 5 in tablet. It handles youtube mobile video very well, but it has a wonderful time trying to actually load videos in the youtube apk. So does anyone have a older version? Maybe like android 1.6 old since maybe it can work with that.
