[Q] CALL QUALITY (call eq?) - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I have always had a lot of low end sound when in a call on my skyrocket (always as in before root) making it hard to hear someone who mumbles or has a lower voice.
w or w/o headphones still have problem. *moreso referring to speaker on phone though
I have tried a plethora of eq's but none seem to affect incoming call sound.
flashed beats audio (by fuss132) problem got worse.
is there any root level eq's or any way i can boost my mids and decrease lows on calls?

I would like to know too. My new A9220 is too trebly but an EQ might help.

Have you tried finding volume+ on google there's a forum that has a free app in it
CM9 Skyrocket

Thanks I have downloaded volume+, the paid version but I need root access and I've been unsuccessful in rooting so far. Any other product suggestions welcome. Volume+ say their speaker quality function is experimental and it doesn't seem like it gives the ability to EQ the incoming call but lets hope it helps or this phone is going back....

What's the issue with rooting? where you stuck at?

well, I've tried superoneclick, unlock root, gingerbreak and loading from SD, none of them get through the process. I have USB debugging on etc...I don't know what I'm doing wrong, I wondered if I don't have the right file for the SD method. This is my first Android phone.

Ok, got it rooted. Now I need to make the speaker usable for calls. Volume+ doesn't seemt o EQ the speaker, just allow me to increase the volume. Any other suggested apps or tweaks?

Did you get volume + from the market or the one from the forum i.was talking about

Oh, I got the paid version from play store. Same?

found engineers menu (via dialpad) with audio adjustment so that might help. Will run through the options provided.

I think I may have discovered a fix for the audio issues...

So ever since I got this phone, I've been dissatisfied with the audio quality. No matter what I did, no matter which equalizer I tried, the sound was too low, too muffled, and just plain BAD. I bought a new bluetooth car stereo this week & I haven't even been able to enjoy it that much cause the streaming audio sounds like ear-rape. Tonight I was messing around with Bloat Freezer and I noticed a system app on the list called "Music enhancer". I wondered if this had anything to do with the craptastic audio quality, so I decided to freeze it & see what happened. To my joy, my music now sounds FAR better! It's like night & day, no more crackling, no more muffled audio
I dunno if anyone else is having problems with audio of if this little trick has already been discovered, but I figured I'd share with the class either way. Don't forget to hit that thanks button if I've helped you out
EDIT: You must be temp-rooted to do this.
Will give this a try, thanks

that goes in hand with my deduction that there was something messing with the audio that HTC implemented. Ill be trying this soon.

This was what I thought too, it sounded like there was a hidden equalizer on the 'terrible' setting in there somewhere.

Just edited my first post to include that you have to be temp-rooted to do this. Head over to the sensation android development section & download one of the temp-root packages(I recommend Eugene's- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1161283). Follow the instructions to temp-root your phone if you wanna do this trick. Feel free to PM me if you need any help doing this

That works!
The top of my screen shows a music note with a stroke or bar through it.
I guess that means I've disabled it.
@the radius kid, no that just means you have your phone on silent lol
Okay I temp rooted and froze music
enhancer through titanium backup. I tried playing a song before and after and didn't notice any difference. when you tried it, was it with a music file or like ringtones and stuff. It seems like you may be on to something there.

Unfortunately, this way won't keep it turned off for long, it'll eventually restart. The only way to really "kill" apps until we get real root is to temp root & freeze them.

I'm playing music. I haven't noticed much difference with ringtones. I really dunno if this tweak will work for everyone, YMMV, but hopefully now that we have some clues we can delve a bit deeper into this issue. One thing that you might try though, is disabling it via ADB. I've noticed that some frozen apps don't get totally frozen unless you do it with ADB.
Froze it using Titanium Backup. Testing now.
OP - in the HTC Music app, Settings > Sound Enhancer, did you have that set to "None"?
I do and the sound on my phone is quite good, without your procedure.
I actually find that the Music Enhancer HELPS my audio quality. Without it, its like listening to music with the headphones sitting on a table in front of me rather than on my ears...
I guess I am just lucky? I have none of the problems that others have been reporting...All except for one big one...DUST UNDER THE SCREEN! (Im on the 2nd phone too!)

This Android stuff takes some getting used to.
The only thing I'm finding is that I have to kill the app' again when I restart the phone, otherwise it does seem to make a difference.
Always get a clicking sound when audio starts regardless of the source with and without this fix.
Just like my Nexus 1, this phone has crap audio quality over headphones and on the speaker. not to mention the mic. HTC seems to always cheap out on these components, my Nexus S was FAAAR superior in this regard. Although I sold it for the bigger screen, and more powerful processor.
Wish there was a way to restore a backup of DSP Manager. I've tried with TB, but the restore option is not available.

Use Voodoo control. you can get it off the market.
Voodoo control needs Root, custom kernel, but it works.
Also you can try Volume+ - it worked for me (even on stock).
i tried volume +- pre root . but voodoo is much better

But be sure, to check the Development thread, because there is a new root tool - it made possible to root mine! And it is working like a charm. Voodoo kernel also.
Also made a guide in the General section if you need a little help.

Volume + worked for me. However you have to understand that it has a lot to have the audio was encoded too. I have seen differences in the increase volume + provides from movie to movie.
Downmixing 5.1 audio without applying normalization and (in my case) a small volume boost can result in an annoyingly quiet stereo track.. with some loud parts coming from the original L/R 5.1 track.. (I think its l/r).. anyways.. Our silly devices are incapable of decoding and/or passing thru AC3 audio.. so when/if you convert the audio.. apply normalization at the very least.
EQ works for me. I turn all the sliders up and it just works. TF still sounds like crap tho (quality) but at least I can hear it.

The beats thing is such a sham
all it does it boost the bass and the treble.
no fancy stuff just a loudness button more or less.
Power amp does this and a lot more
I'm notnsure if it's just a placebo ear effect, but I think i notice a difference
Checking on several different headphones and the S4i's are sounding better
there is a difference, i used my friends GS2 to compare and the not only is the bass and trebble better balanced, but i can push my car's sound system to a 20% higher volume before i start to hear distortion. This is not placebo, or its not a sham, its does what it says and work very well
How does this compare to the Beats setting in Volume+?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...51bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5URVNULmFuZHJvaWQubHZoIl0.
not sure and i wont pay 2$ to find out, im happy with the beats patch

I had this problem too, but on another thread they found a solution, and it works great now.
The problem is that CM has build the mic sensitivity too low, this zip just turn the sensitivity up.

Just flash the zip, and i should work. All thanks goes to dirtydroidx who made this.

Hi,
Thanks for this thread as it lead me to a solution for the 'ok google' problem by replacing the mixer_paths.xml file.
However, i had another speakerphone mic issue that may or may not relate to the 'ok google' problem.
Everytime i made a video call, my friends is complaining he cant hear any voice from my side at all. So i get to test it with my other phone and found that it was the OnePlus One speakerphone / mic issue. Everytime a video call started (Google Hangout, LINE, etc), the speakerphone is always on by default as we get to speak and watching the phone at the same time.
However, at the call recipient's side, there is only a buzz sound and cant hear anything from the call. When i mute the OnePlus One mic, the buzz sound is gone. Unmute the mic and the buzz sound continue. (So the buzz sound is indeed an input received by the OnePlus One mic)
Next, i switched the speakerphone off to earpiece mode and the buzz sound is gone. (So the buzz sound was caused by speaker output?) And then the mic was actually working now (with the speakerphone off), the call recipient's side can hear the call conversation clearly.
It seem that the mic activated some noise cancellation processing or similar when it detected noise from the OnePlus One's speaker itself? Anyone have the same issue? I'm pretty sure its not the App issue as i tried a few different app and all are having this issue.

I have the same issue too, but luckily not as severe. There is definitely a lot of echo/buzzing sound on the other end of the call but if i'm very close to the One and i'm talking loudly they can hear me. Not very ideal, but it's working to some extent.
Search for BACON-549 on the JIRA, looks like the same issue.

That app doesnt work either, when lowering notification or ringtone loudness, it drags down the other one with it.
OP has the ringtone and notification combined, no app without rooting your phone is going to change that.
There are complaints to OP on their own forum going back years of people asking them to separate them, to no avail.
I've personally sent them emails about this issue and some other coding issues they have. In regards to this issue I wasn't nice about after I got a ridiculous response from them. I'm just not understanding how a million dollar company can't fix simple coding problems and can't/won't update their OS to bring it even into 2016.
I like the phone overall, but I think this will be my first and last OP.
