sounds like your power button is going(acts as if stuck sometimes). my power button is gone. in fastboot/bootloader i have to tap the back of my phone by the power button to get it "unstuck" so that the volume keys work.

Exactly. The power button is virtually dead. I am hoping to get it replaced by one of the guys on here just waiting to hear back. So if the power button is stuck then the volume keys dont work in fastboot? Very interesting.

[Q] Bricked Nexus S. Faulty power button?

Hi guys.
I noticed a few weeks ago my power button started to work when it felt like it. Sometimes it would be fine, other times it would take about 30 presses before it registered I was attempting to use it..
Now it has completely failed.
The phone is currently off, whenever I try to press the power button it never turns on. But as soon as I attach a charger to it (AC and USB), without even pressing the power button, the phone vibrates and the google screen flashes up, but never gets past that screen.
If I hold the volume up button as I attach a charger it attempts to enter recovery/bootloader mode(?), but freezes as soon as it comes on. No buttons work and it requires a battery pull to turn it off.
The phone is also not recognised by my computer, or by odin, or anything.
Not really sure what to do. Would try and flash things back to stock, but can't find a way to do that. Not really sure it would help either?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance
Oh and I looked through current threads and searched on google but I couldn't find anyone with a similar problem :/
It seems, your power button is constantly pressed. Maybe you dropped it? You should try to carefully move the button in every direction instead of pressing it, hopefully it clicks back to its right place. Other option is taking it back to the shop, and get it repaired. It's a hadware problem, so you won't be able to use neither recovery nor the ROM. The bright side is, that probably it's an easily repairable problem, and won't take too long

I was on an ICS ROM, can't remember which one, but the button started playing up when I was on a GB ROM..
Here's hoping the button just suddenly starts working though.. :L
Cheers for the reply
Just in case anyone else has this problem. My situation looked horrible.. but I brought a USB Jig from eBay and after months of problems. I got into recovery mode and flashed back to stock. Everything is perfect now

Though I am officially out of the Nexus S great community (mine was sold) but a great lesson I learned here is to BABY the power button...I also disabled the screen lock so I can get screen to wake with vol rocker.... take care of the power button folks on Nexus S lol

Well no lol. It started working on its own after I reflashed. It works on and off.. but I only flash roms now that have volume rocker wake and 'sleep' in the notification bar.. i.e CM based etc. Just in case the power button decides to fail completely

Stock ICS has a feature to wake the screen using the vol rocker.
And you can search the market for "Lock screen widget" to shut the screen.
In this case you minimize the need for the power button..That what I was doing..

Soft Reboot?

In most Samsung phones, there is a button configuration you can do (three finger reboot windows) to soft reboot the phone without a battery pull.
The Fascinate was volume up and power.
Does anyone know what it is on the GS3?
Thanx
Just hold down the power until it reboots. No extra buttons required anymore.

Does this work for anyone running the latest stock build (VRALHE)? I've tried it on two phones running that build and it doesn't work for me. So either I'm doing it wrong or something is up.

HELP!!!!!!!!

this is my first time and i tried to flash cyanogenmod 10 for my at&t htc one x and im stuck on the rotating cyanogemod screen for about 10 mins. i cant get into the bootloader every time i try to reboot it takes me to the cyanogemod screen please help!
Go into twrp and do a factory reset...do you people even read insturctions? God dam
sorry my first time and how do you get into trwp? cause i hold down power and volume down and it just takes me back to the boot loop
Turn on, hold power 10-15 seconds, until screen goes black, let off, press n hold volume down, press power just 2-3 seconds, let off power button but continue holding vol. Down
Than select recovery
oh my god. thank you so much. you are a god.

Chill out man.
OP, hopefully you have some fastboot/adb experience. You'll have to extract CM ROM, grab the boot.IMG and fastboot it to your device... Then flash ROM in twrp and reboot.
If it bootloops again, try to flash ROM then fastboot.. Different strokes for different folks

People always think there is something wrong with their phone, but almost always its just a matter of not performing the button sequence correctly. The main thing that people don't seem to understand, is that you need to release the power button only, and keep holding volume down until the white bootloader screen comes up. People seem to be releasing both at the same time, which just causes a normal boot.
All I do is hold power for 10-15 seconds and then once the screen goes black I let go and start holding down the volume rocker until it boots into the bootloader. Much simpler in my opinion

Screen Shot on 4.4.2

Hi all.. Just got this phone yesterday and flashed it over from 4.4 to 4.4.2.. Everything works great aside from I just couldn't make or do any screen shot here. Pressing vol- and power do nothing..

Volume down, right?
Sent from my Nexus 5
Make sure you are pressing them at roughly the same time, and you need to hold them down for a few seconds.

No reason for it to not work - unless the vol down button is faulty (I had received one with a faulty vol down button, that was RMAd in a hurry)
You need to hold volume down and power button, not just press
Thanks all.. Got it.. Actually I was a little slow there pressing those combination buttons. A quick press both do the job beautifully.. This phone is amazing.. It still amazed me right now.. Hahaha..!
