[Q] Cons on shazam WP7 ? - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Why is it that shazam on WP7 is inferior to iphone version?
For example, i cant find newer asian songs on WP7 whereas my friends iphone version can.
The youtube link from shazam always link to wrong youtube videos, i can never find the right ones from there
(it always link to Portal.shazamid.com, which is never able to identify the correct song)
I responded to shazam, but i doubt ill get a reply....

I havne't compared to to iPhone, but it seems very comparable to the Andoid version. I usually just use the built-in Mango feature instead (tap the Search hardware button, then the Music icon at the bottom) as it's usually faster and better integrated, but Shazam does give better results.

I've had better luck with Soundhound, which is also completely free and unrestricted.

Well I can't find any songs in Chinese.. Well most so I guess shazam hasn't integrated with the asia market in terms of wp7 version
You guys can find the correct YouTube link from shazam?
Sent from my 7 Mozart T8698 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App

I like it also says our companion Orancia Sound Hound prefer because it is faster than Shazam and more effective in terms of searches and most importantly it is free, and many users are not happy with Shazam application ....

Kinoma Play on Its Way to Being Best WinMo App Ever?

If you've previously written this app off for S2P or what have you, I suggest you check out the latest update to the software.
It's no longer JUST a media player. It's becoming more like an iPod Touch built into your WinMo phone. Check out the Facebook, Twitter and RSS apps built into it. The new like-an-iPhone-but-better interface (for the full effect, fill 4 pages of icons. Yep. Pages aren't just side-by-side, but above and below.) Plus, it has an program launcher which allows you to add your favorite apps to the home screen, along with your favorite music/video feeds and podcasts.
All it needs is a clock, weather and notifications and it's Kinoma FTW. If they take it as far as adding contacts, email and SMS, I'll never look at my today screen again.
I use a shortcut in Kinoma to iContact, another to my gmail inbox and yet another to SMS... sadly, the lack of a clock doesn't allow me to replace SPB MS3 with Kinoma, but I'd like to
Honestly, it IS the best WinMo app out there.. very very impressive.
How does it handle its core function - media? Last time I checked it out it couldn't do bookmarks well or play .avi files. Has that changed?
It's still pretty useless as a Video Player (laggy and no avi support) but for just playing music with a quick, slick repsonsive interface it's great. The added funtionality more than makes up for the lack of Video, use Coreplayer or TCMP for that. I've posted a Youtube clip on this thread of it running along side TF3D on my Touch pro 2.

Yeah, for playing back video, TCPMP / CP are still better. However, at everything else, it rocks.
Really? I have to sign up for a offer to try out this thing? No thanks.
No, you dont.

Sorry, but you are going to have to pay for the full version if you want all the features. And you are complaining that they offered you a way to get it for free? Really?
The freeplay version is FREE, no time limits, and has many of the features of the paid version. But I dont know if it has been updated like the paid version yet.
I actually used the TrialPay to get RealNetworks (yuk) to pay for my copy. I was glad I didn't have to shell out my own $30, but it would have been worth it even if I had. Photos, music, YouTube, Orb, Audible, Streaming radio, audio and video podcasts in one app. And now they added Facebook and Twitter, and an RSS reader. The program is not perfect, but its getting close.

Not yet, but soon. That update will focus more on the performance and reliability/compatibility improvements we've made to Kinoma Play rather than new features.

For anybody interested in Kinoma Play who hasn't checked out TrialPay: There's lots of different kinds of offers, so the odds a pretty good that you'll find one that's interesting for you. We've had lots of people "buy" Kinoma Play for free since we introduced it as an option, and so far it seems to be a win-win for customers.

Tried the free version quite awhile back. At the time, wasn't interested in paying $30 then. Looks more tempting now. I've also been wanting to try Audible.com, so I signed up with them via TrialPay. Waiting for the Kinoma registration, but TrialPay seems like a great idea if you can find something you're interested in "trying" out.
Charles,
Any chance of having trialpay working in China as at the moment it is not working. So hope you could look into it.
Thanks.
Hmm... The TrialPay process must be a bit delayed due to the US holiday, still waiting on the registration. Will be patient, it's a good deal.
In the mean time, loaded up the latest Freeplay version. It has improved a lot since the last time I tried it!

I paid the $30 for the full version, but to be honest I'm disappointed.
No AVI support is huge. I don't think its Kinoma's place to make a user code a video a certain way before it is played.
The app store has the same apps you can get anywhere else and most of them are not free.
The skin is not very visually appealing.
It takes to long to launch.
I think it would be good for social web apps but I don't tweet or use Facebook so, to me it's useless.
I have a music player already.
It's sits in a forgotten cab in my PC.
I already uninstalled it from my mobile device.

I paid as well, but this is easily my biggest complaint. PLEASE add avi support!
It also does not autoresume where you last listened to a playlist or folder when restarting the app. So if you quit you must remember which song you were up to(my playlist is about 2000 songs). I went back to pocketplayer.

HTC Youtube vs. Official Youtube

HTC Youtube, or the official Windows Mobile Youtube client
What do you use, and why? I can't figure out which one I prefer.
I am using the official youtube app on my phone. Whenever I used the default htc youtube app, while playing in high quality it would always skipframes and look like it was playing in slow motion.
The official app does have some downsides. I think they should make 2 seperate apps one for windows mobile profesional and one for standard. It is difficult to navigate compared to the Htc youtube app and has small menus. I think they should make the search result picture "flow" (kinda like apples coverflow) larger.
I use ffplay for Windows Mobile on my Device. Here is the link http://www.ffmpeg-wince.org . The reason is that ffplay is free and open source. So you can help us to make it better.
And because i am the coordinator of this project ...
Greatz

very convient
is its like the iphone kinda?

Mine used to play in high quality, and smoothly, but lately has been stuttering as well. I wonder what the cause is?
HTC YouTube client.
Seems to use less resources than the official, plus the quality of my HTC version out-performs the Official YouTube client by-far.
That's for my Fuze tho.
With my Touch Dual, it's back-asswards. The Official Client is better due to the HTC YouTube client being ported to a QVGA Resolution. It's simply not made for QVGA Resolution.
i use the official app eventhough it seems that the search does not work the same way. it is however much more convenient and although simplified, it looks nicer.
I installed the official version on my HTC HD2 and it overwritten my HTC Youtube app or at least I am not able to find it anymore.
How can I get back my old HTC Youtube without a hard reset...?

[Update] Watch MORE live TV on HD2 (10/15/2010)

LIVE TV ON YOUR PHONE
I wrote this guide along time ago in other xda-developers thread, this is the updated version.
There are several ways for watching live TV on your phone, I don't watch live TV on my phone, hope you find it useful though.
(UPDATE 10/15/2010)
TV SERIES ON DEMAND ARE AVAILABLE HERE: http://x.vu/179650
(UPDATE 7/14/2010)
First -MobiTV
After testing it out it is one of the best apps for watching TV on your phone, there are 2 versions, one included on the USA HD2 and the version found on the mobitv website.
Back in early 2009 I manage to hack the 1 day free trail version, it was after they release a patched version and removing the .vars wouldnt work anymore however I never notify mobitv about it, I never post my findings online because I didn't wanna get sued, however the hack doesn't work anymore.
Second -Mobile free TV http://www.mobilefree.tv
Never tested this one out.
Third -Skyfire http://www.skyfire.com/
Skyfire is one of the best ways to watch live tv.
Some useful links to use with skyfire are:
http://www.myfreetvsite.com
http://wwitv.com
http://www.mobilefree.tv
If you know more links please post your comments.
Fourth -SPB Online or SPB TV http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/pocketpc-software/tv/
One amazing application with poor channel lineup, the programing suck (at least for me) thats all im going to say.
(update)
as off June 8th 2010 SPB TV is NOW FREE
Fifth -HandiTV http://classic.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=22918
I used this app once, didn't really like it.
Sixth -artn3r’s mobile tv http://winmo.artn3r.com/?p=12#more-12
In its early stages didn't got may attention because it had channels in German and some other language however it may be useful to you.
"This is my first windows mobile application, it’s a player for online
streaming content like movies or radio. I started this app because
everytime I wanted to view the tv news i had to open the opera
browser and navigate to the specific website. With this application,
only 3 taps are needed to watch your favourite tv or radio show!"
Seventh -Online TVx http://www.onlinetvx.com/
800+ channels this app will keep you entertained for hours, one of the features that many of you will quickly notice and will definitely like is that it has ADULT channels such as Playboy.
"Online TVx is one of the most popular and downloadable online TV programs in the Internet. This complete professional program gives you an instant access to more than 1000 TV channels categorized by genres and countries."
MORE LIVE TV LINKS CAN BE FOUND IN THIS THREAD HERE (which is the actual FULL guide)
Post your comments, links and programs you use.
wow cool thanks for this.
Thank you very much
thanks alot
downloading mobitv now if u know an hacker dont post here but email me xD
Nice one, thanks very much will test it tomorrow..
Too bad none of those "TV" apps show anything worth watching. Wish cable TV would start streaming even if for a fee. At least that way someone could watch something worth watching.
I still think ORB is really your best bet right now. You have to have a PC at home with a TV tuner - but it works quite well.
www.orb.com
...its freeware - and what you end up with is you can stream any TV channel you can get on your home cableTV or satalite to your PPC or any other computer. Really kinda cool.

Actually I stop working on hacking mobiTV along time ago since I don't watch TV and as soon as some one hacks it and makes a post online the guys over at mobiTV are on your case in no time trying to sue you.
i have SPB TV on my HD2, if i click on a channel it says Opening.. goes into landscape and goes back with the headin Opening and it stays there.
Works fine on my HD2
but Ihave a strong signal and get pretty fast download speeds (1.5 mps). Works even better on wi-fi speeds of 3.5+. A couple of stations seem to load the buffer and play then load and play again no matte what the signal and download speed.

[Q] Music app that allows playback speed adjustment? Download TV Shows/Movies?

Hello all.
I am a very new owner of a Samsung Captivate (I've literally only had it for two days). In fact, I'm actually fairly new to Android in general. Prior to the Captivate, the only smartphones I've owned were Windows Mobile phones and an iPhone 3GS.
I'm doing well so far, but there are a few apps that I would really like to have, but can't seem to find.
To begin, is there app that allows you to download TV shows/movies. I've had apps like this previously and it would be really nice to have a similar app for the Captivate that works at least half as well. Second is an app I had from my WinMo days; TCPMP, in particular. TCPMP had an option that allowed you to slow down or speed up music playback and I was wondering if there are any music apps that allows that on Android?
Ultimately, I appreciate all replies, and thank you in advance!

[APP] Best Podcast Apps List!

Hi all! I did a bunch of searches trying to find out the best App for downloading or streaming podcasts, but the results were scattered and few. So I decided to compile a list of the best podcasting apps for android out there (with links) and ask the rest of the community to review the apps and make suggestions. As new apps are suggested I'll edit the list so that a bunch of podcasting oriented apps can be found in one place.
(Links will be placed as soon as I can. I'm new to posting, not to research. Search for these in the marketplace.)
Paid:
BeyondPod (7 day free trail)
DoggCatcher
Pocket Cast
Free:
PodKast
PodKicker
PodKicker is my favorite. It updates automatically, streams and downloads podcasts (with the RSS Link), has a simple player UI, and best of all IT's FREE!
what about listen?
As a big podcast listener, I have tried pretty much all of these. BeyondPod was the best there was on WM, but I don't quite feel this way on Android.
On Android, my personal favorite has been Pocket Casts.
https://market.android.com/details?id=au.com.shiftyjelly.pocketcasts
Pocket Casts is easily the best podcast app I have used. Also it is frequently updated and the developer is more than helpful.

Well, I had trouble with it streaming. An error would always appear. Also, the market/search was horrible.
But what does everyone else think about listen? If I get enough people saying they're on the Listen band wagon I'll add it to the list.
Posted through my Atrix 4g
On using Stitcher for awhile I've found that it's a solid app for main stream podcasts, such as NPR and CBS created podcasts, but lacks the ability to upload through a link. There are a ton of podcasts I listen to that weren't in their market, so that's a down side to me.
which one gets the best battery life? pocket casts seems to drain my battery pretty quickly, I mean I guess the phone can't sleep while playing audio but just wondering if any get better battery life when playing than others.
what podcasts do yall listen to?
Was skimming thru the latest threads and decided to reply (Incredible 2)
.podkast used to be awesome (on GB) but since I've been on ICS it's only offered in foreign languages (from the market).
It had absolutely EVERY podcast available.
-Truckin'-
Podkicker, one of the very free that has managed to find every podcast I've searched for...most of the big name pod streamers can't find popular podcasts.
It's also one of the easiest to run, and easiest on the eyes!
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
I use DoggCatcher and love it. Tons of options, works great on ICS 4.0.4 (Droid RAZR MAXX) and a nice feature is I can skip ahead or backwards in podcasts (jumped by a set interval) by pushing the SKIP and PREV buttons on my car stereo. (When connected via Bluetooth)
No battery issues -- has onscreen playback controls on the lock screen and notification bar (native ICS) and I set it to only download podcasts at night when the phone is connected to power.
I use AntennaPod - it is free and minimalistic
