[Q] Install theme to custom rom? - T-Mobile Sidekick 4G

I flashed B2TB earlier today. I like it so far, except for the fact that only one theme is available. I want to use the stock theme, "disguise" b2tb is deodexed, but i have the .apk file and the .odex file for the theme. I also have terminal emulator and a root file browser. can anyone tell me the best way to install the theme i want?

Please post questions like this into the general section. Really the rules of the development section are very clear. The development section is for releases. Not for questions. Sorry for sounding like an ass but I'm sick of people doing this.

well, developers should support their roms. if im looking for support for a rom that was released in this section, this is where i should look. sorry if your offended - oh wait, really im not.

i figured it out anyway. before flashing, i took a backup of my stock rom. i had my system partition set up exactly the way i wanted before the flash anyway, so i booted into cwm recovery and went to backup and restore>advanced restore, selected the backup of my previous rom, and selected restore system. i will be posting more details about this in the general section.

...so basically by restoring system, you just erased your custom ROM.

doesnt matter anymore. im not on b2tb anymore. im on kd1 firmware with the bali kernel, so i have voodoo and all that. care less about custom roms, just want voodoo. happy so far with kd1.

All of the ROMs I've used have been capable of, or came with voodoo...
Like... Glorious Overdose V2... Which is on KJ2...
Afaik- if you already have voodoo and the kernel/modem you want, you can switch ROMs (as long as they are on the same kernel/modem) and voodoo persists. In my experience this is how it's been.

[Q] Who is interested in a Pick-n-Pack ROM?

I'm not sure how well this will go over since it's not just a download and flash ROM, which is why I haven't released it yet. I've decided to explain the basic premise to see if there is interest.
What this is basically, is a "DIY" DI14 deodexed Mesmerize ROM. Everything is there ready to go with a few minor changes. All of the dependencies are left in so all of the stock apps will work. Many of the apk's have been removed and placed in a separate folder to reduce some of the bloat (not nearly what jt's super clean ROM does, but some of the bloat). What this leaves is just a bare bones ROM that you can add whatever you want back in to it. Once you have everything you want in it, you just zip up the two folders and flash the zip file from ROM Manager.
My reasoning behind doing this is hearing people asking for apps to be placed back into jt's super clean ROM. This way, you get to decide exactly what stock apk's you start with.
This is as basic as it gets. Follow the directions from the readme.txt file and build your own custom ROM. This will work with jt's voodoo kernel, so you can get fancy and add custom boot animation if you want. This should also support themes that some of us are working on porting, also.
If anyone is interested something like this, let me know.
Yes I would

Stock rom with root?

Can't find anything like this. Want to use a stock rom until CM7 gets its crap together.
U dont have a back up of your stock rom ? Take them from this time onwards. Its situations like these when u required them
What's wrong with CM7? Seems better than stock to me atm.

I'm surprised they're at RC status on CM based on some of the various bug reports and missing features I keep seeing pop up here and in the general section. The short answer to your question is that it's not-quite-ready-for-prime-time in some people's experience.
I'll turn your question around: what's wrong with stock? Gingerbread/NS is first Android combo I've not felt the desire to use a non-stock rom on yet even after two months.
To the original poster, I'll second what @suhas_sm said, you don't have a nandroid of your stock/rooted system? That should always be the first thing you do after rooting any phone, and the first step in flashing any new rom, ESPECIALLY a new rom that is in alpha/beta status (like CM7).
If you don't have your own nandroid, the development section does have nandroid images of a stock rom you can restore over your phone via clockwork recovery.
I have the stock back up but won't I lose root after I reboot?
I LOOOVE CM roms but CM7 is too buggy for me. Can't wait to use it when it's stable.
I will say I love my stock ROM with the Netarchy Kernal @ 1.2Ghz it is blazing fast. This is the first android phone I have had and damn its great. I don't think i need to go doing new ROMs other than the whole theme option sounds great.

[Q] New to Charge. Root questions...

First of all I did search and found some info but it wasn't really helpful... I'm new to the Charge. I've had many android phones before and have never had problems rooting and flashing roms. I've searched and I've seen the instructions on how to root and they look like they're in another language. Does anyone have more clear instructions on how to root??? Any help, asap, would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
we are in the same page buddy....

Hey Brandon, this thread gives a great description on how to root your charge. => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14692818
If you still have questions feel free to ask, and I'll try to answer them as best as i can.
Ok, so i got it rooted and just installed a de-bloated stock Rom. Its ok, but now question is, if i decide to install a gingerbread Rom or any other Rom such as gummycharged, can i just install like i did on my bolt or x in cwm or do i have to use this odin program? if i have to use odin, how do i go about installing that way? thanks in advance...

For most roms, like gummycharged fe 2.0 and gbe 2.0 you just need CWM. I'm sure the process is the same as your bolt but just to be clear: Place the rom's zip you want on the sd card, boot into CWM, wipe date, dalvik cache, and cache partition, and then install the rom from the sd card. =) There are also some roms that come as full-odins, where you flash the package through odin and it does the work for you. That being said, you shouldn't run into that many unless you are un-rooting your phone. Hope that made sense. let me know if it doesn't.
Sweet. Thanks alot dude. That's awesome to know. I don't really wanna get into messing with odin. I like being able to do everything from my phone and not having to hook up to the laptop.

LOL, I was just coming in here to ask that exact same question as the OP. The wording was almost verbatim what I was going to say. The majority of experience I have had with Android is with HTC phones. I have rooted a few tablets as well. The instructions for the charge root are super confusing compared to previous devices.
My big issue is with the terminology. Like what is EE4, EPF1? Are there certain kernels that only work with certain roms? How easy is it to completely pooch the phone if I click on the wrong button in Odin? Can I make a nandroid backup and swap roms on the fly using Rom Manager depending on my moods or is it more complex then other android phones?
I haven't checked out the posts yet in this thread but seeing as how at least one other person has been just as confused as me I'm wondering if someone out there that has experience with both Samsung and lets say HTC phones can make a simple guide that makes comparisons to other rooting processes. For people that arn't used to Samsung phones, these instructions can be very overwhelming and there doesn't seem to be a newbie thread out there that gives information on all the abbreviations used and what they mean.

EE4, EP1W, ect are OS build numbers. EE4 is the current official release Froyo build. EP1W is the latest leaked Gingerbread build we have. Those are pretty much the only two version you want to worry about right now. There are Froyo kernels and Gingerbread kernels. Any Froyo kernel will work with any Froyo ROM, and any GB kernel will work with any GB ROM.
Only mess with the PDA button in Odin and you'll be fine. Forget the Phone button even exists, because that's the button that can get you into trouble. You can use the PIT button as well if you have the charge.pit file, but it's not normally necessary, so only do that if you have a reason.
ROM Manager is useless with this phone. There are reports that there is a version of CWM from it that will work with the Charge, but it doesn't work nearly as well as the latest imnuts CWM. The orange CWM dated 8/17 will let you do nandroid backups...you just need to boot directly into it and do them from CWM itself and forget about ROM Manager.

nice summation (is that a word? lol)... this is all you need to know, its not hard as Sammy phones in my experience are the easiest to root/rom/recover

This was all helpful. I installed gummycharged with no issues. One other thing. Is the install of a kernal for gingerbread roms done in cwm? And what is a standard kernal to use? Do I need to install a different radio?? Thanks.

kernels for all roms on the Charge are installed in CWM, as for GB kernels you can't go wrong with any of Imoseyons voodoo ones... radios don't necessarily need to be updated but I've noticed a big improvement with the latest EP1W modems, however the results vary on different phones I've seen

EDIT: I'm talking about imoseyon's voodoo kernels - just google them

[Q] Blue or Red CWR? confused

Hello, Im actually a inc2 user, and used to be a fascinate user. A friend of mine saw my phone and is tired of having his slow stock 2.1 ,mesmerize, so i opted to help.
As said, he was on 2.1. I odined to 2.2.1, now up to 2.3....Now I am trying to get a custom rom for him. In the sticky im finding both a cwr 4.0 and 2.5... One is blue and one is red.
My question... is if im trying to get a cm7 or miui for him... what recovery do I use.
I heard you need to be on 2.2 to go to cm7, and to use cwr 4.0 to flash.. however... when I do that... it goes instantly into a samsung bootloop and never flashes. When i try flashing with 2.5 cwr red version, it aborts.
basically my question is now that im on 2.3 what version cwr do I use, and how do i get to either cm7 or miui?
thanks!

If you're trying to goto CM7 or MIUI, then you'll need cmr 4.0 before hand. Red is the custom recovery only used for custom roms running gingerbread or bellow. I definitely suggest checking out ICS on rootzwiki though, it's the best mes/sc/fas rom I've used so far! ^.^

Instructions is in the mes post(http://rootzwiki.com/topic/13774-rom-jts-ics-build-edited-for-mesmerize-showcase-build-6/), not working list is in the fasc post that the mez version is based on.(http://rootzwiki.com/topic/16630-romicsiml74k-teamhacksungs-ics-port-for-fascinate-build-61-0201/)
I'm not sure why your recovery flash isn't working. There's a tutorial here (http://rootzwiki.com/topic/10728-guideinstalling-a-romcwm-recoveryrootor-going-back-to-stock/).
You need to flash the file named "CWM4 FIXED FOR CM7" if you are flashing mtd rom to mez. "CWM-RECOVERY-ALL-3-30-FIX" for tw roms
You might find more help at rootzwiki, this forum died months ago during developer exodus... they all went there

You're mistaken. This formally was the main forum for the mesmerize and showcase; however, disagreements between some of the developers and xda's admin caused many people to move to rootzwiki. We still are and have been a fairly active community.

[Q] Lag fix

I almost posted this on the stupid questions thread but now im just confused, i successfully rooted my phone on the first try mainly because i keep hearing about this awesome lag-fix, anyways i can't seem to find an up to-date lag-fix, could somebody please link me to an up-to-date thread?
The "lag fix" of yesterday is now incorporated in the custom roms
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
Lag-fix is incorporated in the custom roms you install no need to update anything
Sent from my Maybach S 4G
Like the previous guys said, most (if not all) of the custom ROMs come with it. You said you rooted but you didn't mention that you installed a custom ROM. You won't have voodoo lagfix (which is basically just converting a few of the partitions from the rfs file system to the ext4 fie system) if you only rooted.
There are quite a few custom ROMs around. If you don't want to go that route and prefer to keep it close to stock, you can grab on of the custom kernels in the Development thread and install one that has voodoo lagfix.
Let us know if you need help.
