can you use the Palm Pixi in the Wifi mode without a contract? - WebOS Software and Hacking General

thats my question I have an unlocked Palm Pixi and I want to use it in the wifi mode alone can I do this? Thanks a newbie

yes, you can. If out have to create Palm profile, you have to download activation bypass tool from palm support site. Go to webosnation forums and search for it if you can't find link via Google.

Easiest way is to borrow a friend's SIM card (or from one of your phones if available) and insert it into the device... Then you can set up the Palm Profile and get into the UI.
After removing the SIM the phone functions for everything but cell service.

If you are familiar with Linux or Mac OSX 10.6 you can use a webos-internals creation called MetaDoctor to achieve this. There is a configuration option you can set that bypasses the activation and Palm Profile setup, allowing you to effectively not associate with a provider. Search for webos-internals metadoctor on Google

I have used a pixi as described above. But another approach that I am now using is using pageplus via kittywireless.com. I have a 10 dollar pay every 120 day plan. So I have a wifi plus phone/txt messg device for pretty cheap.

ive heard that if you bypass it that some features will not work or you wont have a app store is that correct i have a palm pixix plus and a tmobile sim ?

If you bypass the Palm (HP) profile you would have no App catalog. However, you could activate the profile with your T-Mobile SIM and then run without SIM on WiFi and have full access to everything except voice, SMS, and MMS.

So all i do is pop in the sin and it will connect to data and i can set it up and use the phone sms and data i didnt no if i would of had to add the apn or they would pick it up from the sim

I have a GSM unlocked Pre 2 and I had no trouble setting up the Palm Profile with a friend's T-Mobile SIM. However, if your Pixi is Branded to a network that may be a problem. You can still try it.
I don't think bypassing the Palm Profile is such a good idea even if it will be a WiFi only device because you want the App Catalog and Preware stuff...
Also to run it off carrier you may want to turn on Airplane mode which shuts off all radios and then you can toggle WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth off and on manually as needed. Then it won't suck up battery looking for carrier signal...

Okay well it was a at&t pixi but i have a unlock code and im gonna be using the phone sms and data feature

[Q] Question:Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 on boost mobile data connection issues

Okay you guys I just bought a Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 a few days ago and I have it active on my boost mobile account.
1st question: should i put my boost SIM card inside the tp2?
Main question: I have been having data (internet, youtube, email) connection. What can i do to fix this problem? It has been saying #777 cant connect dismiss and error.
me too
I just bought am going to take on the feat off getting it to work in boost, please email any info to [email protected]
Am I wrong or does the htc pro touch 2 not have a sim?
You guys need to contact your carrier and get the Internet settings from them. Your phone isn't made of magic. lol
I have already ported my boost cdma number to the htc pro touch 2 and internet and youtube work, but my gmail on there receives messages but then asks for id and password when I try to respond to messages.
what OS you running? did you manually insert the msid and mdn?

i had the same problem what i did is a hard reset and the internet should work.
1st question is did you sign up for the boost CDMA plan? That's the main reason for using the Sprint TP2. You need to ask for the CDMA otherwise, they will set you up with the iden plan. Check that first. then post a fallow up question. good luck
take a look here you might find your answer

I have the same issue here, with internet and mms. Did anyone here know the boost mobile internet setting? If so,please do share. Thanks.
i think a hard reset is all thats needed. its all mine has ever needed. i have been through 10 roms at least and once it boots the net just works. as for Gmail make sure your email settings are correct. i cant remember but if there is a "save password" option on there you need to use it.
Here's a boost mobile provisioning I made for sprint TP2
I'm told it works: Here
Me too!
I Have this same problem does anyone know data connections for boost? ie #777

Is there a way to emulate another SIM ?

Simply put, I want to use video calling. And for this I need to use the Verizon Skype. But the Skype app wants a Verizon sim. Is there any way to trick skype into believing the sim is from verizon? (without changing anything to the real sim) ?
Try Market Enabler. In theory it should work.

Stupid question:
Now that I am under WiFi, I don't give a damn about what happens. But... when I'm on 3g, changing that ID will automatically put me in Roaming ? (My sim is from Orange Romania). And if I'm in Roaming, data access is cut, due to option to avoid costs... Which renders it unusable...
Whatever I do , that Skype doesn't want to read the phone number...
Gonna try Market Enabler. But not sure if it will unlock the apps in need.

[Q] issue with internet sharing

Hi,
I have htc radar 4g
Yesterday I popped in att sim card to unlock my phone and I have been using it for half a day. I used the htc connection setup to get mms working and internet.
After half a day i switched to tmobile sim card and I used the htc connection setup again to set setting to tmobile
Now I can't use internet sharing on my phone
When I try to turn it on i get:
"Connection not shared
To enable tethering on this device, go to att.com/mywireless or dial 611"
Anyone knows how to get rid of it?
I use tmobile prepaid and this has been working before I unlocked my phone and used atts sim card...
any help appreciated!
Give it a couple days to re-provision the Internet Sharing restriction (shouldn't take more than about 24 hours). AT&T wants people to pay extra for tethering, and your phone must have picked up that restriction while it was on their network. It *should* go away on its own. Try rebooting the phone again if it sticks around.
If you were on a slightly older phone, I'd tell you haw to bypass the restriction entirely, but unfortunately we don't yet have a way to provision custom provxml files on the Radar (or other HTC gen2 phones).
will see,
i will give it a time to saturday
but this is what i did
1. made a backup on my mac
2 restored to factory settings
3. checkked ineternet sharing
it works fine
4. restored my backup
5 sharing not working
so i will wait until saturday/sunday and see
I have the exact same issue. Any solution? I'm overseas and can't use the internet tethering function which is one reason I bought this phone!

Anti-theft: Avast vs SeekDroid

Which is better?
I know that Avast will still work even if SIM card is changed (extremely important).
I know that SeekDroid has web interface.
What about the reverse? Does SeekDroid work after SIM card change?
Any other thoughts welcome.

Go with SeekDroid *biased
We don't rely on the SIM, as long as the device has internet.

That's the problem. I suppose that means SeekDroid doesn't send sms with new sim's phone number.
Which means that is the theft uses sim without internet access, my phone is gone.

In that case, if a sim didn't have SMS it would not work either. The difference with us is that we will keep trying to send the device the command given from the website until it comes back online, even if you leave the website. This means if it ever connects to WiFi or gets a SIM with network access, we will be able to execute the command. Also keep in mine that carriers such as AT&T will automatically add a data plan to a sim inserted into a smartphone.
Well, in Europe carriers don't add data plans automatically.
Anyway, can you list the functions SeekDroid has that Avast doesn't and does it offer all the functions listed here under avast! Anti-Theft and Remote Features sections?
Also:
- how does SeekDroid protect itself (on a rooted phone) against deinstallation or factory reset?
- does it add extra battery drain by running in the background?
Thanks.
avast anti-theft also has a nice web interface where you can send command to your phone, locate with GPS, etc
For me cerberus. I purchased it a time ago and I can use it for 5 devices. It works even after a hard reset and without SIM.
Tapatalkteando desde mi móvil.
I'm surprised no one has brought up Prey. It has all of the features OP requested and more. Also, it's free and open source.
Using Cerberus too. Flashed the disguised app zip into system.

Does your app survive a factory reset like Avast does on a rooted device?

New Android 10, 10.1” joying headunit no 4G data

Hey guys, I’ve recently entered the android headunit world and purchased a android 10, 10.1” joying headunit (octa-core 1.8ghz, 6gb ram 720p).
The headunit is fantastic and exceeds my expectations in every way, except the 4G mobile data function doesn’t work.
I’m from Aus, so I’m using a verified working 4g mobile broadband Telstra sim that is a GSM type (which joying says is compatible).
The unit detects the SIM as it should, identifies it as a Telstra sim, shows full 4G signal in the top bar however it has no data stream.
I have the mobile data function enabled, roaming enabled, no data saving features turned on and have made sure to set all my apps to unrestricted access.
The interesting thing is, if I turn the headunits hotspot feature on, and use the units 4g network as a hotspot and connect my phone to it, everything works perfectly and it shows a perfect data stream.
However the unit itself cannot use its own data.
I have followed all of the instructions given here:
Android car stereo, Android 10.0 Head unit
How to solve the 4G problem on Joyin --> How to solve the 4G problem on Joying head unit? Following ideas are for solving the 4G problem when there i
www.joyingauto.com
But seeing as how the unit can actively stream 4g data via the hotspot function, there doesn’t seem to be an issue with SIM card settings or anything hardware related.
Has anyone come across this or have any idea what I should do next?
(Let me know if you need any unit details)
I don't know if this will help because you said your hotspot works but have you checked your APN (access point names) settings to see if there are two options to switch between?
There was only one in there which was the default automatic setting. But I figured that if the headunit could still send and receive data via hot spot to another device that the APN must have been correct?

Yeah, that's what I would have figured too. But I'm not an expert. Is there a DNS setting you could change? Perhaps add a custom DNS hostname such as dns.quad9.net ? I'm just guessing here.
I’ll have another look tonight but I don’t remember seeing any settings to change the DNS host name.
I was able to hotspot data just fine however the headunit had no internet.
Verify that the acces point names (APN) are set correctly. I had to copy the settings from my phone (using telstra) and apply them to the headunit.
This can be done by going to Mobile Networks > Access Point Names > [first one in list]
I had to change APN to telstra.wap and APN Protocol to IPv6. Also, there's a bug where the text is white on the input box. Have to select it to read it.
This worked with both the newer Android 10 (universal 10.1") and older Android 8 (Honda acord kit) on telstra data sims
Absolute legend, thanks mate.
I’ll try that tomorrow and see how it goes!
Thought I’d let you know it worked a dream, just had to change the apn and the protocols.
Thanks again!
I ordered a JY-UQD11N6G about 10 months ago and since then I have tried EVERYTHING that has been suggested here and by Joying. I've tried the universal build from FYT from this very informative post. The head unit recognizes the SIM and properly populates the APN data, but for some reason the time on the device sets back to the build time and date of the ROM every time the device reboots. I have also deleted the prepopulated APNs and created a new APN according the information on my phone when the SIM is inserted and functional which corresponds to the information here.
It does get (or keep) the right time zone, but it will not keep a persistent time through a reboot with a consistent power source.
Joying has sent me an unreleased ROM that doesn't fix the issue. I've tried different external antennae and I've torn the device apart to ensure that the internal antennae are properly soldered to the carrier board (they are). At this point I'm tired of paying $30/mo for a line I can't use.
I just noticed two one pixel wide green lines vertically traversing the LCD, but before I request a warranted replacement, is there anything else I should try?
I tried 4 different SIM cards. T-Mobile pre-paid didn’t word. The head unit recognized the card and everything looked right but no data. T-Mobile post-paid card taken straight out of a display phone in the store worked perfectly, but the cheapest plan was $40/month, and that’s too much. The Verizon card I took out of my iPad and tried did the same as the pre-paid T-Mobile card.
The 4th one I got is from Mint Mobile. Since they use the T-Mobile network, I thought it was worth risking $45. From their website I bought a SIM card with the 4GB phone plan at $15/month for 3 months. It works perfectly! After 3 months I can renew the plan for 12 months and stay at $15/month. 4GB is more data than I will ever use in a month just streaming my music, navigating and doing a few other things, like checking weather/weather radar.
Go with Mint Mobile. It may fix your data issues.

I tried Mint and had the same positive experience, and a Visible (Verizon mvno) card did not work.
But it had bars and showed me an lte connection, it just didn't give me any data. Apn settings were blank, but also wouldn't let me change them, oddly. I'd like to try again as I'm sitting on a visible sim for the next two months that would be cool to use but wondering why some carriers work and others don't, even if they are the same carrier (mvno vs non)?
I have Verizon working on mine, you have to add the APN settings manually via an app from the playstore. However....the device is unknown to verizon so they keep adding it as a phone to my account....for like $50+ a month...I told them i just want data and it should be classified as a connected device.

what provider? what are they charging you for on your account (device type)?
I haven’t used the data service for a while since I started just using apple car play, however my Carrier was Telstra (Australia) and it was something like $15 a month for a
2 GB 4g data sim.
At least as far as I can remember, it did have a mobile number associated with it so I think they were classifying it as a phone plan.

What’s the APN app you got from play store?
I used an app called AddAPN on the Playstore for my Joying and it worked well.
AddAPN - Access the Add APN se - Apps on Google Play
Brings up the Add APN page directly without going through settings
play.google.com
Because the settings app doesnt allow access to edit them...the app edits the apn information since the stock settings app doesnt allow this for some strange reason..
