Beats Audio for any Gingerbread ROM - confirmed working on Xperia Play - Xperia Play Themes and Apps

Just noticed this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1523760
Not my work at all but I tried flashing the zip on my play and wow, what a difference. Makes music louder and clearer than stock gingerbread.
I advise everyone give it a try.

Thanks, I'll try this on my Play, and for ****s and giggles my motoactv.

The file didn't work on my phone when flashed ; From the looks of the update script the creator hasn't set the permissions correctly and has simply told the script to move the files from the .zip file to the system which wont work unless the system is mounted...Manually moving the files may work...
EDIT- Also, the thread you posted to is a copied version(with a rubbish .zip/cwm script.) of this guys mod http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525226

DON'T FLASH IT! I manually mounted /system in recovery and then flashed the file.
Now I'm in BOOTLOOP!

You may be able to fix that by setting the permissions of the files ; this may be a long process ; I'm dont really know much about these things so i may be wrong.

Tried this on CM7
Works pretty well

I'm also wondering why so many users in the original thread say it sounds better than without using it it couldn't even get loaded by system without setting proper permissions...

I flashed the zip easily after downloading it on a stock-based .62 rom. idk why others are having problems. About the sound..I think it sounds better but I'm not sure because of my weak memory but I definitely do not hate how my headphones sound right now.

yea I flashed this no problem too thanks man!

manually mount /system and done flashing it.
though I can't really tell what's the difference than before...

Flashed fine, I think it's made a difference not too sure though. Thanks anyway.

How is it possible, guys that this mod works in your phones?
Have you tried manually mounting /system partition and then flashing .zip file? Flashing .zip without manual mounting DOES NOT PUSH the files to /system because script that installs the files is wrong! It doeas not mount /system itself so that NONE of the files are pushed!
I tried flashing with mounted /system on .42 and .62 ROM and both went dead and bootlooping...

Yup, most people "flashing" the file instead of moving them over are probably hearing what they want to hear thus the occasional"not sure if it made a difference" posts ; I'm not installing this either way since a good music play i.e power amp can do the same thing or maybe even better (according to some websites).

So chances are good that its not actually working? If you mounted system in CWM and afterwards phone went into bootloop, wouldnt it do the same if I manually swap these files individually? I just flashed it(without mounting system) and I see no change. Will this work with SE music player?
Ios suckkss.

That is incorrect. If you turn up the bass on poweramp it sounds muffled, even with beats which have an amazing quality and the music isn't even playing that loud when compared to my brothers iPhone. I would assume that this flashable gives us an update sound lib to support this.

I wouldn't suggest putting this on any phone. It screws up the frequency response to make it boomy.

How to get Dr. Honk's KG4 with root+Voodoo+Recovery working!

Hello,
I wasn't able to post a response in the Development forums yet, so please move this thread if you see fit and sorry as I'm still new to posting here.
------------------------------------------------------------------
I am using the original full leaked version of the ROM.
If you are having issues using ODIN to flash Dr. Honk's amazing new kernel: [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194032] Or if you are having issues with not seeing your SD card after successfully flashing the kernel try the steps below:
If your having issues with ODIN, get Winrar and extract the zimage from the tar file and use heimdall and it should flash correctly. After you flash the kernel and boot up, you may notice your not seeing your SD card. Try going to recovery which you can now! Wipe your data<factory> then your Cache, then wipe your Dalvik Cache and use fix permissions. Reboot and you should now see your SD card, only catch to this kernel is Dr. Honk's forgot to add busybox, so I would go to the market and get it then you can also use Voodoo lag fix.
It's working great for me! Good Job Dr. Honk!
You would likely get a little more assistance if you would give more info (what room you're currently using; where you're stuck).
honestly, if you're having issues with this install you would probably do better to wait.

LoL, no problem man...I just figured it would be good to give back to this great community with some helpfull info for once
thanks for the tip!
dont know if this helps or not but this is how i got mine working:
i flashed kg4 leak then did dsextons gb rom root,
then i installed busy box and installed on phone,
then flashed drhonks new kernal for kg4 (his new download works)
now everything works great in=m on ext 4 system cache and data and also have cwm recovery support
Thanks for the tips.
I tried all above, the SD shows right, but I still cannot have lagfix properly work and convert EXT4. Everytime system restart, it reports not enough space on SD card, but actually I have 14 GB available on my SD.
I did my flash exactly like jdubb. it worked flawlessly. Thanks drhonk for everything you do for us

Hunter, can you try this:
pop in an other micro sd, boot into CWM, format sd, enable voodoo ext4 and reboot.
if you don't have a spare one, backup files from the current sd card then proceed as above.
Can someone post the precise links and directions that they used to get this working, please! Much appreciated!
Bro, I really appreciate your quick tip, but I tried it, the issue remains.

I was reviewing the source code of voodoo lagfix, just feel like the my sdcard available space is not properly read from lagfix code.
Not sure if you guys still using the factory SD card, I am using the 16GB one came with the phone.
Issues with SD card.
For those of you with issues on their SD card, did you by chance try enabling lagfix via Voodoo Control app? That is what I had to do to get lagfix working properly. I disabled it via recovery and then enabled it via control app. Somehow got it working that way lol.
Unable to answer inbound calls
The install went flawless and phone works great. I do have a major issue though, inbound calls are cause a force close and create an instand missed call. Is anyone else having issues being able to answer inbound calls? I can make calls just fine, it just refuses to let me answer a call.
I am currently running:
2.3.4 KG 6 with the 2.6.35.7 Kernal.
This worked great for me on kg4, but for some reason i flash this on kg6 and after the flash boots up fine. But whenever i restart my phone i get a boot loop at the samsung screen. So confused Any ideas?

I was getting the same thing when I turned on Voodoo so I went back to recovery to disable Voodoo (I had to use ADB since the phone wasn't functional long enough to use the Quickboot app).
Then (per crackpot in a dev thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16264528&postcount=222) booted back up and used the Busybox Installer from stericson to make sure Busybox was installed into bin and not xbin.
Then back to recovery and enable Voodoo.

i screwed up!! :(

(Update Fixed go to second page!!)
Well, this could be worse but here goes...
So multitouch keyboard sound were bugging me so i figured change them over to the click sound for wp7 instead, so i used root explorer backed up kb sounds
from system/media/ui and replaced them with wp7 kb sounds....
all went right except i noticed the the KeypresStandard sound wasnt working right (i would click and wouldnt hear anything, space and enter worked!) so i figured thats not good let me just replace all the sounds with my backup sound files, and same thing no sound just for Keypresstandard!!
Here is the odd thing if i hit the some keys real fast i get the keypresstandard to make a noise every now n then!!??
Is there a cache file i need to clear? i even did a factory restore (knowing that wouldnt do anything) but i figured why not
any ideas, I should of made a backup with cwm but i wasnt sure if i restored if i would brick this thing... so i never bothered with cwn at all sigh......
don't restore with cwm, cannot guarantee that it will work at this point.
double check the names of the default sounds and the new sounds, make sure they are named the same and in the same format (mp3, ogg, whatever)
There in .ogg, its just the KeypressStandard.ogg that seems messed up, other sound files for KB work fine, hmm anyone have keypressStandard.ogg? Maybe it got corrupted some how? im gonna try to make m own see if i can get it to work...
and for cwm, ya i figured not to even use it till i know it was safe... btw thanks for the reply!!
So... (update!)
For the life of me i cant fix the back up KeypressStandard.ogg, Ive never seen anything like this b4....
So what i did was take KBspace.ogg rename it to KeypressStandard.ogg and it works (not the ideal fix) but atleast its a sound..
I'll just to have to wait till a sbf is out to reflash the damn thing to stock, its not a big deal but ocd is such that i want it perfectly back to stock :: shrugs ::
Just pisses me off somtin so simple is giving me such a hard time, oh well, i can wait sorta, kinda, maybe
Just turn of the sound.

Still Not working, I checked the permissions and they match to the other KB sound file, tried to wipe cache under the default recovery, still wont work.
The odd thing like i said b4 if i rename the KeypressSpace to KeypressStandard the sound file works without a problem.
Thanks again guys for the replies, I havent tried to clear davlik, I havent put cwm on yet so,any other free app on the market clear davlik ?

FIXED!!!!!
Update! Fixed the problem
First i want to thank you guys for taking the time to try and help me out!!!!
This is how i fixed it, i was sitting around thinking about how in the past i had to play around with Motorola android phones for my g/f, she had the droid and many more on verizon, and i remember the fun i had modding here phones (aka i was the one stuck rooting/flashing anything for her)
Then it hit me , I used root explorer with her devices and i remembered how i had problems with.apk's i would modifiy and zipalign/resign then copy over to /system
So what i had to do was just use adb instead of root explorer. but enuff of my rambling this is how you do it!
1.Move file you want to push to sdcard of your phone
2 fire up adb
at prompt type
3.adb shell
4.su
5 mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
6 cat /sdcard/KeypressStandard.ogg > /system/media/audio/ui/KeypressStandard.ogg
7 chmod 755 /system/media/audio/ui/KeypressStandard.ogg
8 reboot
and thats it ....
This is a lesson for us all, Use an iPhone for any amount of time and slowly but surely all past knowledge of android/adb go out the window and u try the easier way first! either that or im just getting old (I do sometimes forget my own name) but hey i rather blame apple

How about a silent boot sound? Or is there a way to turn off the boot sound without turning the system volume to zero?
rename poweron.wav or delete it. recommend renaming in /system/etc/
boot logos,: Im guessing from my experience so far they are going to be in param.lfs and/or C-header code format in kernel. both are nearly impossible to change and will take a lot of work but can be done.
I will probably look more into this in the coming week. There very well may be one in each location I mentioned. Images will likely not be able to be much bigger than stock, which probably isnt much.
the one in the kernel will not be easily changeable for each person , where as hopefully a hex edit hack would allow us to change the one in param.lfs with root explorer on the fly.
I already searched param.lfs for logo.jpg(common for samsung) and came up empty.
Next I will try a script for extracting images from param.lfs
Happy Hacking!!

here.. silent for you... in surround...
oh btw... the file name is 1_Power_on.ogg or wav
thanks, yeah I knew the name wasn't exact, just typing from memory. Should have been able to find it.
Dazed and confused...
OK there is a very high likely hood that I am doing something highly stupid but I gotta ask why this isn't working for me.
I have a P6210 that is rooted. In CWM I go to the "Install zip from sd card" then choose either "choose zip from sdcard" or "choose zip from internal scard" depending whether I want to chose a zip from the internal or external sd card. I then choose the appropriate zip and away I go correct?
If that is the case for some strange reason this isn't working. I would really like to use the silent boot because I hate the stock boot up tones.
This is the output when I select any zip to install from this thread:
-- Installing: /sdcard/silent_boot.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
Reverting back to stock.
Wiping dalvik cache.
Formatting cache.
Copying Files
Setting permissions.
Install Complete.
hmmm... yup that not working... use root explorer and try go to root system/etc and rename the 1_Power_on files to something else... and see if its working
btw i re-create the files... try this

[DUMP] STOCK AT&T deodexed/zipaligned ICS

Here is a dump of my /system/app and /system/framework that is deodexed/zipaligned. Its just the directories; its not flashable in CWM. I'll try and put together a stock zip later, but I don't have time at work. If someone else wants to do it, feel free to PM me a link and I'll host it.
For now, developers will know how to use this. In addition, if you feel brave, you can use the following steps:
Prework:
Download the zip. Extract it. Copy the deodex_app and deodex_framework directories to your external SD card.
1) Boot your phone into recovery
2) Mount /system and /sdcard from the mount menu
3) adb shell rm /system/app/*.odex
4) adb shell rm /system/framework/*.odex
5) adb shell cp /sdcard/deodex_app/* /system/app/
6) adb shell cp /sdcard/deodex_framework/* /system/framework/
7) adb shell chmod 644 /system/app/*
8) adb shell chmod 644 /system/framework/*
9) Wipe Dalvik cache from the advanced menu
10) Make sure /system, /data, and /sdcard are unmounted in the mounts menu
11) Reboot. It took about 5 minutes for my phone to boot and then it said "Upgrading Android" or something like that and went through 175 apps or so.
Download here.
ROM developers, feel free to use this to base your ROMs on. Please give credit for the base source of your ROM as always.
Edit: Clarified its also zipaligned.

Factory reset should take care of it.

The one liner I pasted in the other thread should work for both app and framework. It has more includes in the class path than are necessary for framework, but I don't think it'll break it.
It assumes the following:
You are in a directory with app, framework, deodex_app, deodex_framework and tmp subdirectories. app and framework contain the originals from the phone. The one liner should be run from this top level directory. I'd recommend doing framework first. You'll also need to Google java.awt.jar and put it in the framework directory too. Don't upload this to your phone though, its just needed for deodex'ing.
finally abit stable with these deodexed files
flash ics leak through odin
boot into android and get past the attready2go
flash cwm through odin
copy your deodexed files to sd and boot into cwm
follow your adb commands to copy and replace
reboot
only problems were superuser being a pain to flash in cwm. someone else mentioned toggle signature verification which is just before choosing your zip to install in cwm. looks good now.

i think the problem most people are having isnt related to the deodexing (anymore) but trying to flash it in CWM. it seems that flashable zips are messing up everything, as i used the same files i tried flashing in a zip this way and it works now. the zip version was unusable.

I've always had to flash the Superuser zip twice for some reason. I just flash it twice right on top of each other (without rebooting, exiting CWM, etc). Never have any problems in the actual OS doing it that way.

2.8.1
The way i have been able to edit mine is booting into recovery, mounting system, using ADB to pull it, edit it then push it back and set permissions.
I cant figure out which lines i need to amend to increase the speaker and headphone volumes though. What i change seems to have no effect and if i change to much it ends in a bootloop.
Any ideas?

i believe you have to mount the entire / root or /system/ as as RW first. I believe one of the tutorials for getting root showed how to do this in ES Explorer
