Is there a way to delete them after rooting?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
You might not be able to delete them but you might be able to edit them.. At least that is what I did on my vibrant.
Download bookmarks manager, its free in the market. You don't need root. Delete the ones you don't want, then uninstall.

Alternately download skyfire browser and go to bookmarks, delete them in skyfire and then uninstall. Stupid that they are locked in the first place.
Just tried above suggestions and still cant delete preloaded bookmarks...anything else i can try?
another possibility
once you have a browser that sets bookmarks. google has no way of knowing that you didnt put them there and backs them up. also the bookmarks are hard coded into the browser apk. so unless you edit the source or apk i dont think you can get rid of them because each time you restart the browser it reads it from the file and places the book marks there. Is easy for the modified roms to remove these so dont worry.

Download bookmarks manager, it works.
Ok my fault, there was another app called ES bookmarks manager, which isnt the one. I did find the right one and works perfect.
I accidentally deleted the smartshare app when i rooted my phone thinking i didn't, need it. If some one could offer me help on getting and reinstalling it that would be great.
I did the same thing. It doesnt seem to effect anything, although I didnt realize there was a smartshare option in the Wireless & networks menu. I havent tried to enable it in fear of a never ending force close, I'm going to see if there is a way I can re-install it.
Smartshare apk
This is from another post around here that has all of the original apks the phone came with, but I can't seem to find it off hand.
Thanks. To the OP just put the smartshare.apk back into system/app reboot and it will be back
just use twonky much better than smartshare even stream youtube vids
thank you

for me smartshare.apk does not work on CM7. it always FCs
that app cannot be instainstalled on my phone is there a particular way I should go about installing it?

You need to move it into /system/app with a file manager that has root permission like Root Explorer and then change permissions on the app. Should have all 3 Read sections checked and the Write section for Owner and that's it. Reboot phone and should be good. You could also get a update.zip and use an archive manager to move the app into the zip then flash.

I know some of you have been having problems with a force close message that looks like this: Android.process.media is not responding please force close or retry.
I have done search after search only to find one way that ultimately fixes this annoying every second force close message.
1. Make sure your phone is rooted.
2. Using a file explorer of your choice go into the directories as follows:
/system/app/
3. Delete this file from the menu, mediaprovider.apk
4. Force close messages will now stop. Horray!
If you have questions post them. I will do my best to answer.

i tried it on my G2 and it hasn't worked yet. Had to give ES FileExplorer root.
Have a great morning!
..........
media.process force close issue rooted htc desire
I fixed this problem without any further issues by clearing the download cache - I'm just as surprised as you.

Yea like I said you must have a rooted phone!!!. Did it work after you gave es file root?
Another great program in root explorer. You can get it from ww w. 4shared .co m
Go there type in rootexplorer .apk and it will have multiple downloads. Just pick one and run it.
You can get all the paid apps for free like that. Just type in .apk after the app you want is typed in for example: rootexplorer .apk or irunner .apk or androidbanking .apk..... you get the picture?

Or you could get it from the market, and pay for it, and support the developers. But if you want to be a thief, that's your decision.

If 4 bucks is out of line, how is it you could afford your phone in the first place?

+ 1, a one time payment of $4 for something useful is nothing.

why patronize piracy?
I live in Asia, where pirated software/apps are more prevalent than legit ones. That is because software like Microsoft Windows is economically out of reach for the man on the street.
But $3.99? Come on! We shouldn't expect devs to continue churning out useful code without getting paid for it. If the developers of Titanium Backup or Root Toolbox had decided early on that it wasn't worth it to develop apps for Android or WinMo, we'd all still be in the Dark Ages of the cellphone era. Making custom ROMs is not the same. For one, many of them were based on stock firmware--which were made by highly-paid software engineers at phone makers in the first place.
What the Android Market offers for free, I download for free. When it has a price and I need it, I pay for it. Simple as that.
1) the fix listed above worked perfectly for me. (HD2, gingerbread, CM7)
2) paying for an app is the right thing to do. free ones are preferred, of course. you know it, i know it, they know it. support open source, support the community. pay it forward.

Thanks for the tip mate. I got rid of FC's after removing mediaprovider. But after removing it cannot access any sort of media like photos, ringtones etc :-D. Any other work around?

Yep, this is actually a horrible fix. For me, it did nothing except stop me from accessing any of my media. So if you don't care about listening to music, viewing any photos, having ringtones, viewing video you have taken etc, this MIGHT work for you. I had to dig out the mediaprovider.apk from the .zip of my ROM and replace it.
I fixed mine by restoring my last Titanium Backup ("restore all apps with data"). Whatever was corrupted was restored back to working order. I understand that not everyone has Titanium Backup, but it has save my a$$ a couple of times now when an app or system file has started acting weird. Root your phone and get TB, it's so worth it.
EDIT: OK, so the problem came back after I replaced mediaprovider.apk, so apologies for that. I booted into recovery and did a factory/data reset, then restored my Titanium Backup, and all seems to be good now. Again, I understand this may not help everyone, but it worked for me, and it avoids deleting apk files without fully understanding what effect it will have.
Help
I have a droid 2 global. i tried deleting the file and it says i cant. is there anything else i can do? i cant access my pics, music, or market.

I had the same problem with my Asus transformer. In addition the default Music player did not work anymore as it used to (played the wrong numbers).
The above solution did not work for me (I could get to the files mentioned without rooting).
Sofar I got the problem solved as followed.
1. I found an new version 4 of the Music player (com.google.android.misic.4.0.9.apk) and installed this version
2. This by itself did not solve anything, but now I could reinstall the factory original version and now everything is OK.
No forced closing anymore and the default player works as before
I hope it stays this way.

alfred
I've just updated to latest Oxygen on my Huawei U8800, and was having that same issue.
After reading this post, I've updated with TB the application "[Playlists] Media Storage 2.3.7 (10)" and it solved it.
It seems that my custom playlists of the music app were causing it...
Hello guys
I recently noticed that copy and paste functionality had a problem on my Note 10.1,
When I select a text it shows options to copy without problems. But when I hold in the same app or another app to paste it does not show option to pasts. It may though in some apps show clipboard option but every time I tap on it it does nothing!
Frustrating!
Any ideas?

You will need root to fix this or reset your tablet. If you have root, browse to /data/clipboard
Delete all files and folders inside clipboard folder
Restart your Note
Sent from my GT-N8000 using XDA Premium HD app
Stupid question, but are you sure you are using right COPY button? Try to check it with right bottom button on virtual Samsung Keyboard (looks like newspaper icon) , whee you can see if there is all what's you copy to bclipboard. You can delete old pne and after restart it could works.
And that is the problem Sharkeecz, clipboard never appears whether by clicking this tiny newspaper icon or clicking "Clipboard" after tapping and holding short over text field(s).
Many reported it could be fixed with rooting the device and deleting /data/clipboard folder. But I am looking for a solution without rooting my device!
Can any body help??

Whatever you copy is stored until you delete it so may be the buffer is full have tried manually delete all the copied items that could be one of the reasons
Have the same problem in the Mobile Firefox Browser! The Clipboard just won't open! Works fine in any other app.
Copy and paste problem with Note 10.1
Same problem here, please update when solution found
Factroy reset should fix it, fixed copy, paste issues I had
Factory reset does fix it. Few days later, the problem recurs!

I sometimes have the same issue with my stock non-rooted unit with D3 firmware and I also get a crash with reboot at times when I use the paste button at the bottom right of the keyboard in the native browser.
What happens is when you press the keyboard paste the tablet freezes for a second on two and then reboots. Can't remember if it is all web pages but I know it happens when I try to use the keybosrd paste when posting to this forum.
Anyone know what could be going on with that?

I only found, that PASTE doesn't work on some pages only when you have activated DESKTOP version of the pages. On some pages it doesn't work either, especially when you would like to copy/paste tp password windows
A factory reset does fix my crash/reboot issue when I use the keyboard paste button, so is it a flaw with touch wiz or is it one of my apps that is causes this condition.
I just did a factory reset again and like before keyboard paste button works as it should, I guess I will now have to install my apps one by one to see if I can replicate the condition again.
Does anyone know if there is a size limit to the clipboard and if there is a way to clear the clipboard without doing it item by item, because I have tried many apps that claim to be able to clean the clipboard but none of them can.

Hi. I am using lollipop 5.0.1 and i am having these 2 small problems
1 ebay app. Pics are not showing. I tried my wife htc one and pics load fine. She is on 4.4.2
2 sometimes when i go to google images from chrome and dowbload pics. It doesnt show in photos. Jist error.
Any help in either ? Thanks
Wife and I are having same issue for about a week now on our S5's. If I go to my browser I see images but not in the app. We are on 4.4.2 not lollipop so there has to be another issue. Funny thing is we see the thumbnail images on front page where it shows recently viewed items but nowhere else. I've cleared our caches, reinstalled, and everything else I can think of along with searching web extensively with no luck.
Hi there,
I had this same issue and manage to fix it, hope is not too late to suggest a solution.
My culprit was Adfree, in the latest updates it added a the ebay images string to the hosts file.
So, if you have adfree or not (maybe similar app or firewall), I'll suggest to download Hosts Editor, look for "i.ebay.images" (or similar address), and delete it.
Hope that helps!:fingers-crossed:

thanks that did the trick
since "i.ebay.images" was not found, it was an other line that had to be deleted.
eventhough I just did I forgot which line I purged....
I think it was i.ebayimg.com
Thanks for this, I was suffering from the same fault albeit on HTC One M8. I had my suspicions it was adfree related but didn't know how to sort it.
Thank you so much ... It was driving me nuts
Thanks for sharing, this fix worked for me as well.
that solved the isue with ebay images not showing.
Thank you.

if you have ADFREE app installed just opens adfree and press reverse button
Thanks for that. I assume it's adfree which stops the links in my emails from working. Do you have any idea what the name for that host maybe be? It get bit of a pain having to boot up the laptop every time I want to open a link. Links to down loads in the emails don't work at all but I think other links do.
---------- Post added at 11:19 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:29 AM ----------
Ok I worked this out. Here is how i fixed it when certain links in emails don't work.
To fix it I clicked on the link in the email. The phone then try to open the link in he browser but fails. In the browser address bar you can see the name of the host. On my case it was clicks.aweder. I found the link name in the host file list and deleted it. Now the link I want to work in the email is working. I found there were lots of hosts with similar names but I only needed to delete the exact match and not any of the rest.
I hope this helps anyone with similar problems. For reference I use adfree on my rooted devuce but I am sure it works for other similar ad blockers.
THANK YOU! You're my new hero!
THANK YOU! I downloaded hosts and deleted ALL Ebay entries and instantly like magic, the app works again. It was driving me nuts for a couple of weeks. I thank you for being a credit to the community. Fantastic job--thanks again!
