Why can't we delete pre loaded bookmarks - T-Mobile LG G2x

Is there a way to delete them after rooting?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App

You might not be able to delete them but you might be able to edit them.. At least that is what I did on my vibrant.

Download bookmarks manager, its free in the market. You don't need root. Delete the ones you don't want, then uninstall.

Alternately download skyfire browser and go to bookmarks, delete them in skyfire and then uninstall. Stupid that they are locked in the first place.

Just tried above suggestions and still cant delete preloaded bookmarks...anything else i can try?

another possibility
once you have a browser that sets bookmarks. google has no way of knowing that you didnt put them there and backs them up. also the bookmarks are hard coded into the browser apk. so unless you edit the source or apk i dont think you can get rid of them because each time you restart the browser it reads it from the file and places the book marks there. Is easy for the modified roms to remove these so dont worry.

Ok my fault, there was another app called ES bookmarks manager, which isnt the one. I did find the right one and works perfect.

[APP] IM Beejive Beta

I'm not sure if this is allowed, but since it's a direct link from beejive.com, I think it should be? I'm not actually in the beta.
http://beejive.com/android/beta/BeejiveIM.apk
If not, can a mod please delete the thread? Thanks
I might give it a try. I don't IM much these days but it's still nice to have a good client there for when you need it..
ATM i'm using the official msn messenger for android (without ads mod).
Do msn have official apps on android? What the name of the app?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
It's called MSN Droid.
Edit: Actually I'm not too sure if that's the official app, sorry.

still in beta and the UI is pretty good.
yet the function is rather poor.
No it's not msn droid.
It's official msn, but developed by PICA (chinese company http://www.pica.com/)
http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/tools/messenger_cbpe.html
I'm don't think it's available in english market, so heres a link to the apk (it is a free app, not warez) http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BALZ1U08
It is modified to remove ads (the official one has ads >_<)

needs work but pretty good so far...will be paying for it once it becomes available...
Nice
Seems to work pretty good. I like the ease. It does appear to be on all the time though but I've not seen a significant battery drop to warrant removing it. Really wish they would have opened the beta up for more people, I hated just downloading it but not being able to participate in bug posting.
Actually you can participate, Maybe not bugs, but fatal errors that cause the app to crash you can send email logs of when the app crashed directly to them. After the app has a force close it will ask you if you want to send the log when the app crashed to them by e-mail.

You have to rename the file to change it to .apk file. (at the moment it's named BejiveIM.apk.zip)
If you have file extensions hidden then unhide them and remove the .zip and save.
I was getting a "Timedout" and then "no client key" yesterday but the app started to work again late last night. I'm not too sure I like the size of the icon like others have said, but I do like its the most stable out of the clients I've tried without draining my battery.... much.

Agree! Reason I uninstalled after a few hours. Besides that the app icon seems larger than any of the others I have. But not being able to disable the icon in the notification bar is extremely annoying!!

Hi, Thanks for posting this. I used to use it on my Berry all the time . . . I installed it from your link & imo it's the best IM client out there so far & still Beta lol! The feature that lets you email the conversation or post to twitter is sic ;-)
I'll definitely be buying this app soon as it's out officially.
yeah this app isnt bad at all, it seems close to trillian it will come down to 5 things...
-features
-batterylife
-speed/lag between IMs
-reliable connection
-price (seems like trillian will be free)

SmartShare

I accidentally deleted the smartshare app when i rooted my phone thinking i didn't, need it. If some one could offer me help on getting and reinstalling it that would be great.
I did the same thing. It doesnt seem to effect anything, although I didnt realize there was a smartshare option in the Wireless & networks menu. I havent tried to enable it in fear of a never ending force close, I'm going to see if there is a way I can re-install it.
Smartshare apk
This is from another post around here that has all of the original apks the phone came with, but I can't seem to find it off hand.
Thanks. To the OP just put the smartshare.apk back into system/app reboot and it will be back
just use twonky much better than smartshare even stream youtube vids
thank you

for me smartshare.apk does not work on CM7. it always FCs
that app cannot be instainstalled on my phone is there a particular way I should go about installing it?

You need to move it into /system/app with a file manager that has root permission like Root Explorer and then change permissions on the app. Should have all 3 Read sections checked and the Write section for Owner and that's it. Reboot phone and should be good. You could also get a update.zip and use an archive manager to move the app into the zip then flash.

android.process.media force close! FIX

I know some of you have been having problems with a force close message that looks like this: Android.process.media is not responding please force close or retry.
I have done search after search only to find one way that ultimately fixes this annoying every second force close message.
1. Make sure your phone is rooted.
2. Using a file explorer of your choice go into the directories as follows:
/system/app/
3. Delete this file from the menu, mediaprovider.apk
4. Force close messages will now stop. Horray!
If you have questions post them. I will do my best to answer.

i tried it on my G2 and it hasn't worked yet. Had to give ES FileExplorer root.
Have a great morning!
..........
media.process force close issue rooted htc desire
I fixed this problem without any further issues by clearing the download cache - I'm just as surprised as you.

Yea like I said you must have a rooted phone!!!. Did it work after you gave es file root?
Another great program in root explorer. You can get it from ww w. 4shared .co m
Go there type in rootexplorer .apk and it will have multiple downloads. Just pick one and run it.
You can get all the paid apps for free like that. Just type in .apk after the app you want is typed in for example: rootexplorer .apk or irunner .apk or androidbanking .apk..... you get the picture?

Or you could get it from the market, and pay for it, and support the developers. But if you want to be a thief, that's your decision.

+ 1, a one time payment of $4 for something useful is nothing.
Sent from my abucus
why patronize piracy?
I live in Asia, where pirated software/apps are more prevalent than legit ones. That is because software like Microsoft Windows is economically out of reach for the man on the street.
But $3.99? Come on! We shouldn't expect devs to continue churning out useful code without getting paid for it. If the developers of Titanium Backup or Root Toolbox had decided early on that it wasn't worth it to develop apps for Android or WinMo, we'd all still be in the Dark Ages of the cellphone era. Making custom ROMs is not the same. For one, many of them were based on stock firmware--which were made by highly-paid software engineers at phone makers in the first place.
What the Android Market offers for free, I download for free. When it has a price and I need it, I pay for it. Simple as that.
1) the fix listed above worked perfectly for me. (HD2, gingerbread, CM7)
2) paying for an app is the right thing to do. free ones are preferred, of course. you know it, i know it, they know it. support open source, support the community. pay it forward.

Yep, this is actually a horrible fix. For me, it did nothing except stop me from accessing any of my media. So if you don't care about listening to music, viewing any photos, having ringtones, viewing video you have taken etc, this MIGHT work for you. I had to dig out the mediaprovider.apk from the .zip of my ROM and replace it.
I fixed mine by restoring my last Titanium Backup ("restore all apps with data"). Whatever was corrupted was restored back to working order. I understand that not everyone has Titanium Backup, but it has save my a$$ a couple of times now when an app or system file has started acting weird. Root your phone and get TB, it's so worth it.
EDIT: OK, so the problem came back after I replaced mediaprovider.apk, so apologies for that. I booted into recovery and did a factory/data reset, then restored my Titanium Backup, and all seems to be good now. Again, I understand this may not help everyone, but it worked for me, and it avoids deleting apk files without fully understanding what effect it will have.

I had the same problem with my Asus transformer. In addition the default Music player did not work anymore as it used to (played the wrong numbers).
The above solution did not work for me (I could get to the files mentioned without rooting).
Sofar I got the problem solved as followed.
1. I found an new version 4 of the Music player (com.google.android.misic.4.0.9.apk) and installed this version
2. This by itself did not solve anything, but now I could reinstall the factory original version and now everything is OK.
No forced closing anymore and the default player works as before
I hope it stays this way.

alfred
I've just updated to latest Oxygen on my Huawei U8800, and was having that same issue.
After reading this post, I've updated with TB the application "[Playlists] Media Storage 2.3.7 (10)" and it solved it.
It seems that my custom playlists of the music app were causing it...

Using the application Root Explorer navigate to /system/app/ folder. Then tap the Mount R/W button on the top. Long press on the Facebook.apk and then choose delete.
There should only be one Facebook file in here and that is the one that came with the device. If there is more that one delete the one which file size is smaller.

Hello...no HOME button!?!? Also, I may be different..but my phone is my phone...I don't need all my bookmarks pushing to every computer I ever log into Chrome on..I hate that.
Also...it's thoroughly annoying in order to alphabetize my bookmarks I have to do it from Chrome on a desktop or laptop...

I would think and can almost say i'm sure that the intl. version of the M8 has the stock browser. It's the damn US carrier versions that don't, makes sense right kind of like leaving out the htc flashlight app too and all intl versions have this! Maybe when we get the software update with power save modes it will come or we're SOL until root and custom roms come out. Read earlier that it IS on these devices but carrier hides them and without permissions we cannot UNhide them.

It comes with chrome, which awesomely syncs all your bookmarks.
But you can download Opera, Dolphin etc. Plenty of choice.
Out of all those choices, why would you want the HTC one? Its the first thing I replace when getting a new phone.

I'm sure we can just use the system dump from att/tmobile/sprint (if they have one) to pull the apk

After the reboot and root kicks in about a minute later, does the Internet app then show up and work? This is my concern with this root method, it is a form of "rooting" but with the reboot feature what root options/apps/tweaks will actually stick and work?

Yes I read up in the Root thread by jcase, Thanks
Its also not going to work because of conflicting provider error. just grab one from a vzw rom, sign it then adb install it . it will show you the error
I initially gave up and just decided to settle with using Chrome.. until it randomly wouldn't open mobile versions of pages, crashed, and wouldn't let me log in to pretty much anything. I then gave up and started using Firefox.. I do still like the stock browser better, but seeing as how I don't have it, Firefox is doing the job pretty well for the time being.

Just a guess (I'm not a dev) but I'd say that it's a system app and we can't write to /system as of yet.
