Hey guys, let me start by saying I love my G2X. It's been problem free for me and I hate to let her go but I've recently acquired a GS2. Since then my LG has been collecting dust. I have the opportunity to trade it for an ATT iPhone 4 32gb. Sound like a good trade? The iphone doesn't come with the original box and has a scratch, that's barely noticeable, on the front and back.
If this is in the wrong section I do apologize but it seemed fitting given my question.

Dual core to single core? You do the math.
That's true. However, in my attempts to sell my G2X people are concerned with the build quality and bugs. I guess a better question would be, Would the iphone bring a greater sale price?

I was being sarcastic. Both my g2x and that iphone are worth more than 175$. I'm not using the thread as a means to sell either. I just wanted a fellow g2x owner's opinion on their value vs. that of an iphone.
Sarcasim is hard to read.
Make sure the iPhone has jailbreakable firmware. You don't want a tethered unlock or jailbreak. Its a pain.

If your not using the g2x anymore and the iphone4 32gb is in good working condition I would say swap it!
The g2x is a beast of a phone, but the sheople(yes sheep+people=sheople) will always favor the iPhone product because of apples support, also you can bet you'll get more $$$ back if u decide to sell the iphone4 compared to the g2x.

Really that's a bad trade, a G2x would beat a 4S, so if you're just about performance then no.
But if you like how pretty the iPhone is, then go ahead.
Who cares what's faster or better. Fact is, G2x re-sale value is pretty ****ty. A 32GB iPhone 4? That thing will stay at about 350-400 for a long ass time. Maybe even a little more who knows.

And for the record, iOS/iPhone 4 is smooth and fast as hell. I hate it, but up until now only the SGS2 or Galaxy Nexus comes close to its smoothness.

When I put my g2x up against my buddies iPhone 4 I hold my own and then some against it, with a larger screen he likes the way mine looks over his iPhone. He isn't one of those fanboys. My thing for iOS that I'm jealous about is; updates are reliable as well as apps/games oh and their built in apps "camera, messaging, etc... Thats pretty much it though. Oh and there battery.

Thanks for all the replies. I appreciate everyone's input. I guess the iPhone in question has a scratch on the screen so I'm going to have to see how bad that is in an hour or so. I also have a hell of a cash offer on the table for my G2x. The funny thing is now that I'm on the verge of getting rid of it I really don't want to. I think I prefer it over my new GS2 at times.
Anyways, depending on the scratch I think I will have to go with the trade. I share Mackster's opinion on the weak resale value. It's sad when people who don't know squat about phones/technology know of the bugs they were plagued with.

Too bad mac and android are basically different flavors of linux of each other. Who cares if you go from a dual core to a single core? Just because something has more power doesn't mean it's useful. The G2x is a powerhouse sure, but with the available software it's not making near as much power as it should. The iPhone 4 is a single core, but the software FULLY takes advantage of the hardware. They're about even as far as real life usage. And the iphone is more reliable (waits for somebody to come in and say try this kernel/os) than the G2x. I'm not an apple fanboy and I love my G2x but I expect so much more from this phone. ICS is finally starting to come around. Anyways, trade for the iPhone 4 use it for a couple months, and sell it before the 5 comes out so retail value doesn't completely deteriorate.
I too would guess an iphone 4 would sell for more based on popularity.
You could always keep the g2x as a backup in case you lose/damage/brick your sgs2.

Yes, I will be going after the Hercules providing it doesn't have a Quallcom or Tegra 2. Samsung is innovating more than any other Android manufacturer right now and I will give my money to them for it. At this point their making some of the best displays, best mobile memory and best CPU's. They have also been updating like crazy lately.
Oh, and by the way. Your thread should be getting closed any minute now. There is a certain mod here who doesn't like when people talk about getting rid of his favorite phone.
I hate to admit it but I think I might once it comes out, I love my G2X but Sgs2 does look to be quite gorgeous, and I hate Samsung but they sure are coming a long way from the vibrant

me, i'll be getting it for sure. probably sell my g2x to use towards it. and.....this will most likely be my last smartphone. i'm 43, have a wife,2 teenage daughters and a 2 year old boy. my $160 unlimited everything on 2 lines could be better spent elsewhere. i think i reached the point where i'm done paying these insane prices. hell, i rarely even make phone calls. and the only time i REALLY use the internet on my cell is to stream music while at work. i've come to this decision over the last few days. i thought the g2x would be my last major phone. but....mmmmm....hercules! lol. i'm not too concerned about the processor. like i said, last phone. and when att takes over, i'll probably just get a tracfone,or,......a jitterbug lol. i've had every other brand smartphone,except a sammy. so i can't leave the scene until i add that to my years of smartphones.

I'm always looking for the next greatest, but I think I'll stick with my G2X until the nexus 3 launches. This LG nonsense has taught me to stick with pure google cause manufacturers can be counted on for ignoring you after the sale.
Knowing about the AT&T take over, my plan was to buy a G2x outright and then use my upgrade within a year to lock me in to a price point.
I don't know about the Hercules. Sure it is a nice phone but a side step mostly. Kinda like the Nexus one to the nexus S. Both the G2x and SGS2 are great phones but neither warrant an upgrade over the other.... at least not worth paying money for. As a free upgrade I'd take one but not for another $200 or so.
I'll probably wait until after the new year and see what becomes available. My G2x is a beast of a phone and I have zero issues with it.

What am I crying about? What does having money or selling phones have anything to do with what I said? If that comment was meant towards myself, I held onto my G2X months after getting my Sensation and I still have my Nexus One. I sell my old phones after realizing I have no real use for them.
Thanks for proving my point though. I knew someone would. And by the way. I still have my G2X since the only jack ass who bid on the phone was a user with zero feedback and still hasn't paid. Looks like nobody even wanted it for $280. I may have overpriced it! At this point Ill probably just hold onto it if nobody here wants it. What's the point of selling it when I'm going to take a $300 hit. If that's the case, ill just keep it so I can still play the Nvidia games.

Here in the house ill be struggling with this personally. I came from the iPhone then captivate(swore last purchase EVER from Sammy) then nexus one then mytouch4g then nexus s then s4g then g2x. Now that being said. I still use the g2x my wife uses my nexus s and I kept the s4g around as a spare. Oh I forgot the HTC hd2. I have a real issue going to Samsung again. The captivate reallllly soured me and the nexus s was not a.large upgrade IMO over current market phones when it arrives. Its value was Google.
The debate for me is Hercules power or nexus 3 which is very likely to be Samsung produced as well but will at least be Google updated.

After reading the specs on that beast unfortunately I will be leaving my g2x behind and giving the hercules a try. I'm feeling that 4.5 inch display and samoled + if it truly looks as sexy as the Nexus s did thats a plus as well may even be my last phone.......until a quadcore comes around

Meh, the extra RAM doesn't mean much to me and I couldn't care less about storage space. As for screens, the G2X's is perfectly fine.
My next phone is probably going to be around the time when ICS comes out. I'm thinking 1.5 GHz dual core, maybe something in quad-core. And 1.5 GB ram, maybe 2. A significant jump is really what I'm aiming at here.
I can't believe I'm not in a hurry to jump ship to the Galaxy S2. The Cappy has been such a good experience as a phone and it's still able to do whatever I need it to do. When the Fuze came out I couldn't help but be there the first day to pick one up. I was compelled to have the latest and greatest, and the abilities a new smartphone would allow. The same happened the release day of the Captivate.
Sure, it's had its issues (GPS and capped data speeds come to mind) but between the performance of hardware and the constant ROM updates from the dev community, I just don't feel that compulsion to move on from the Captivate. For me it's been a great phone and it's made me a big fan of Samsung's products. Oh I'll get a Galaxy S2 here in a month or two when the price comes down a bit. But I'm still happy with my Captivate and I'll keep it around as a backup.

Some info claims it will be a Verizon Exclusive but i am skeptical. I think that it is more likely we will see it launch exclusively on verizon with a 30-60 window before other carriers get it....so i am not giving up on the prime....the solid metal body construction alone will be worth the wait...just hope ATT gets it.

That is what has my attention as well...Galaxy Note.
I don't feel the need to upgrade from my Captivate either. Its a weird feeling, I use to be such a phone whore, now I look at new phones and feel they can't do a whole lot for me (personally, I know the phones are actually huge upgrades) that my Captivate can't do.
I HATE how ALL of the new phones being announced are so huge! 4.3" isn't TOO bad, but I do prefer my 4" screen. They're just getting bigger too, I want the Nexus Prime so badly, but there's no way I'm getting it with a 4.65" screen. My upgrade isn't until May 2012 and I'm questioning if there will even be a phone out there I like by then.

I'm with you guys. Once the GS II finally came out, I am not as excited. The last ROM I put on is great and until that note comes out, paying 200 for the GS2 isn't so alluring.
Especially with LTE on horizon and the Note, which will be awesome.
It's like an old friend, even knowing something is better out there, I'm not ready to trade in my old worn in shoes

The article says 4.6". It may not be so bad since that probably includes the buttons at the bottom, I'll just have to see it in person, but I still think it will be a very large device.
I'm a captivate owner and I really love it. I will not change it in a while..
The only two things that I don't really like in Captivate are very bad sensitive buttons (well, I replaced screen after it was broken, and than buttons were like that) and very bad battery life, especially with MIUI
But speed and functionality are just grear. And still love the screen with maximum brightness. I think I will buy Galaxy Note or Nexus Prime, will see...
I'm with you guys, but not by choice. I have a contract to fulfil.

I'm with you guys. There is no real reason to upgrade just yet. With a good custom ROM (Cog5), it does everything I ask of it, and does it quickly. The screen is just amazing, and only the SAMOLED Plus beats it, if you ask me. Since I'm not on contract, I can switch when I want, but I see nothing out there I just gotta have. The Prime may change that, but if it is CDMA, then I'm out. Big Red is too expensive for my blood.

According to the average Craigslist pricing here, 40 dollars. But you're losing quality here too. Android can be made into a dumb-phone so it shouldn't be too big a pain.

Lots of hate for iPhone around here. I believe they all have their strong and weak points. But logically the only reason to consider going to iPhone would be for the richness of the apps (not looking to start a war, but having used both, I simply find there to be more apps available for iPhone - now, not talking 3 or 6 months from now). But back to my point. If she wants a simple phone then she's not after apps. As far as simplicity goes, iPhone is simpler, simply because there is less choice. Its a little more closed. Really - I think the question you should be asking is Nexus vs a Blackberry instead of Nexus vs an iPhone though. I say sell your Nexus and put the money to a dumb phone with qwerty keyboard, or trade it for a BB. I'm thinking your wife wants a phone for communication primarly and this is what you mean by simple. I will stand my ground and say nothing - absolutely nothing beats a BB for txt'ing, email, and raw phone capabilities. Don't go with a Curve model or Torch - you should be able to trade someone straight across for a Bold 9780 in new condition.
Last note - you're looking at trading an 8 month old phone for one that's likely 2 years old. That alone indicates to me its not a "good deal".

Assuming they're both in comparable condition they're around equal market value. From a hardware perspective the Galaxy smokes. From a usability perspective the iPhone wins.
For some reason, white devices tend to attract a little more attention, especially if they're for females.
I'm not an Apple fan by any means, but if I were in your position, buying for your reasons - I'd do it. Unless your wife is a geek. I'd make damn sure it was in good nick first, though.

I hardly ever start posts like this, but I just felt I needed to say that this phone is freaking awesome. In the past year and a half, I have had the hd2, mytouch4g, g2x (briefly), and was seriously considering buying the gs2. As a matter of fact, when I received this phone as a warranty for the mt4g, I said "well, it will hold me over until the gs2 comes out/I have money for it." I don't even want that thing anymore. I truly feel this phone is one of the best on the markets, if not the best. The best camera, tv out, excellent processor and memory, and a fine hardware keyboard. Never thought I would use the last one as much as I do now.
At the beginning, this phone was lacking in devs, but romanb, blue, and undead breathed new life into it. Now we are getting more and more devs who can only bring more to the table. My hat's off to all the devs. I think from here, this phone can only go up. Truly one of the most overlooked phones imo.

Iphone users are seriously amazed at what my phone can do. Other android users are astonished by the battery life. Everyone is impressed with the camera and tv out.

We really need to push more G2 owners to move to this device.
I was playing GTA 3 on my G2, and you could tell the hardware had reached its limit. Not bad, but laggy at times. I know it's asking a lot from my phone, but it made me realize that it's not as invincible as I thought. OCed to 2GHz and you could cook an egg on the back of it.
This phone has just that much beef under the hood. Exactly what I need
I like the phone Just wish it was thinner and had a bigger screen. But Pyro Ice is great.. Really hoping for CM9.

I broke my mt4g last time and was offered the slide as a replacement... I was thinking about how bulky it could be. Though, I picked another mt4g, then I researched the comparison of the two I was like F€#$!! I wished I had picked the slide. I called them back before they sent out the phone, but it was too late..

It's actually not that different in terms of size compared to the MyTouch 4G.
A little thicker and heavier because of the keyboard, but very impressive
Best part about this phone is that it will outlast the devices from its time, ie Sensation both XE and 4G, Amze 4G. Most of these devices have a much higher resolution than the DS, 9xx by 5xx vs 840 by 480, thus the adreno 220 on the DS will be able to handle more load before it hits its ceiling.

I'd really like to see how phones can get better than this...
If I'm only moderately compelled to upgrade to this device from the G2, it will be much harder to justify my next phone purchase.
How a dual core phone will be pushed to its limit? I have no idea.

Just bought my Galaxy Nexus from the Google Play Store, can't say I regret it... just yet. Anyways, who else bit the bullet? The HD screen, plus ICS and pure google made it irresistible...
Nope. Can't afford a new phone and what's the point? I mean yea you get a nicer total hardware and all, but I really only use my phone for web browsing when not at my computer and texting.
I don't feel it would be worth upgrading from a one year old phone for no real upgrades.
You didn't miss out on anything. I did not like the Nexus. My SGS2 blew it away. The pentile screen on the Nexus left much to be desired. No expandable memory, and the touchscreen nav buttons take up screen space, making the useable screen space limited. Returned it.
Getting a G2x tomorrow to use as a daily driver. Will install the latest ICS for it. I look forward to checking out the devs work around here.

Why would you come from a Galaxy SII to the G2x? I love my G2x, but it'd be awesome to have a.Galaxy SII.

Do you really need that much developmnts going on? You cellphone to make make phone calls, texting, browse the web, games.
If android do need that many, that would mean a really big question on its quality.

Well I use my device constantly, and the screen size was one of my constant conplaints about the G2x. I love the phone, but I fell the G2x better suits my needs.

Of course the on screen nav keys take up space, that's why the screen size is 4.65"? There's less space wasted into bezel however, and that's appreciated. I definitely agree with the Pentile screen though, can't be that bad though.
Why are you downgrading from a SGS2 to a G2x however?

That'd be the same as saying "why are there so many apps for the iPhone". Does it suck that bad that it needs apps to make it usable? No, development is always a good thing.

I still have the TMo SGS2. It dominates the Nexus. I was excited to get the Nexus, but it did not live up to expectations. Best phone out there is the SGS2 by TMo.
I got a good deal on a G2x, so I picked one up. Looks to be a nice phone. Reminds me of my Vibrant, but with upgraded specs.

I got the Tmobile GS2 and its become my main phone for a month now.
I really really really hated it. Back of my mind I still hate it. I have small hands and 4.7 screen really is too big. I hate the stock SMS app and replaced it with the CM7 SMS.
Slowly the phone has won me over, mainly because its reliable and doesn't have any crap or surprises. It just works.
I would have kept the G2X as my main but the reliability and GPS really killed it for me. Also, data kept just stopped working sometimes. Stupid little bugs.

Honestly, I've slowly warmed up to my SGS2 but slowly. I hate that it doesn't have CM7 solid and stable as my G2. TouchWiz does ok. It wins for reliability. I've tried to trade it. But really there isn't any better phones out there on T-Mobile. HTC One doesn't sway me because no memory expansion.
Right now I'm slowly moving all my personal data and info from the CM7 to Stock 2.3.3 on my G2X. Going stock for a while and away from CM7 based ROMS. Its a hate/love relationship on the phone. If it were solid and stable as the G2, I wouldn't have gotten the SGS2.
I think everyone should just be patient, not bite the bullet for the Galaxy Nexus, and wait till June for T-Mobile to put out the S3!

I love it too. I use my phone a lot for browsing the web too, and the GN makes it a lot better. Nice screen, and flash doesn't lag on the web unlike on the G2x.
But saying the S2 is better and Nexus is a fail is quite wrong. There's still no official ICS for the TMO S2... And that big screen with such low res looks ugly to me. I'm sure Whitehawkx and Roman left that phone for the Nexus for those same reasons.
But the G2x is awesome in it's own ways. I liked it as much as everyone else here with the G2x.

True, and a better phone than the T-Mo GS2 would be Sprints or At&t's, as they have the Exynos CPU.
And none yet unfortunately, its arriving tomorrow. Any recommendations?
When the Galaxy Note/SGSIII hits Tmo, and the price is reasonable, I'll prob jump ship...
Maybe jumping ship around Aug... Or maybe if LG gave us a half decent release of ICS, I'll stay. Wub u all <3
