[Q] Secondary Display FOR android - General Questions and Answers

I've seen a lot of discussion on using an android device as an extended monitor for a PC, but I'd acutally like the go the other way, using a monitor as an extended display for my GS2 LTE. I've got the MHL adaptor that lets me mirror what's on my phone onto any screen with an HDMI input, but what i'd like to do is be able to use the monitor as the primary display, and then use my phone as a touchpad and pair my phone with a bluetooth keyboard. This way, I would effectively be able to use my phone as a portable workstation, with the phone screen as a touch pad and an external monitor as the display.
anyone know if this can be done?

[Q] Can I use a large external touch screen monitor to control phone/tablet?

Hi guys,
Is there any way to connect a Hero or Vega (or any android device for that matter) to an external touch screen monitor and control the phone/tablet via the large monitor?
I understand it is pretty easy to watch movies etc on a bigger monitor but I am wanting to actually use the touch screen input of the monitor to control the device.
My aim is to use this as an entertainment system on a 22" (anything over 15") touch screen in a VW campervan conversion project smile.gif
Any help hugely appreciated.
Cheers,
Wag
look on ebay for touch screen addons for laptop or computer monitors most just emulate a usb mouse so if the android tablet or whatever your using supports usb mouse support like some of the viewsonic gtablet roms do i woul think it would work pretty good if you could find one for the size screen you want.
something like this but for the size screen you want http://goo.gl/4GdgT
You need to hack it
I had a similar idea and one of the Touch screen panels as mentioned by gator2k83. It did not work that way as he proposed.
The touch screen works with absolute positions. A mouse is relative position.
You need to hack it the bad way.
See my blog post about it:

HP 23TM touch screen monitor and android tablets
Would the new HP 23TM touch screen monitor work with a 7 inch tablet as an external touch screen monitor? The table has a hdmi out and a micro usb out which could be hooked up with OTG cable?
Thanks.
It would be great to be able to do that

Its been 4 years since the original post, so I'm curious if its any easier now. I would like to control my Samsung Galaxy S3 (MHL compatible) via a MHL 3.0 cable and this touchscreen. Any ideas/advice?

Looking for an app..

I frequently use the hdmi adapter cable to plug my s3 in to an external screen for videos and msg throughout the day.
my question is: is there an app that turns the screen into a laptop style touch/gesture pad? i use a bluetooth keyboard with it all the time, and if i could just use the screen as a touchpad, it'd save me from needing to purchase a bluetooth mouse.
i have searched google and this site, but i believe i may be using the incorrect search terms. i cannot be the first person to think of this! thanks in advance!

For videos and messaging, I just skip the screen mirroring and use Airdroid. It puts all the info in a desktop view and eliminates the need to even have the phone nearby.
Sent from my sexy phone using XDA Premium
Daemon, I appreciate your input, but that's not what I want. I do not have or want the screen that I connect the s3 to connected to another computer. I simply wish to use the touchscreen on the s3 as if it were a laptop style touchpad for itself, so I do not need a bluetooth mouse.
On a similar note, I am looking for an app, that would allow me to change the resolution of the operating system, or at least certain apps (like browser, etc) so that when I have the s3 plugged into the screen, it looks more like a computer's view- not like just mirroring the phone view onto a bigger screen.
Thanks in advance!

HDMI MHL - Shutting off phone display while connected to Sentio Desktop?

Working on a project to turn my phone into a desktop without a need for too specialized adapters and without root. Using my LG G5 for testing this. Have a MHL USB Type C adapter that contains USB, HDMI, and Type C in (charging). The setup works well, and I'm able to hook in my keyboard, monitor, and mouse perfectly. Screen resolution is slightly cut off on the top and bottom edges. It seems to mirror the display of my device. Could imagine it troublesome for taller phones like the S8.
This can be fixed without root, as you can give Sentio Desktop permissions to edit the display settings.
HOWEVER, I don't see anyway to turn off the display when plugged into the adapter and keep running the same.
This is more of a long-term problem. Having the screen on for extended period of time will cause heat issues, not to mention wear on the screen.
Is there any kind of way to turn off the phone's display when hooked in, akin to closing the lid on a Mac when hooked to a monitor (without root preferably)?
Did you ever find out how to do this? Bugs me too!

Dex mode on tablet screen

Hey, from what I gather DEX mode gives you a desktop style experience with the note 9 on an external screen. But does anyone know if it's possible to use it on the screen of a tablet running Windows 10? Not run in windows, but just essentially make use of its screen? Although I'm sure I saw a video of a guy plugging the phone into a laptop and using its screen. The tablet is a lovely 12 incher with a great screen and a built in stand, I just think it would be cool to use it's screen while playing games through the phone with a Bluetooth controller. The tablet has a full size usb port and a mini HDMI which I don't know if it would be an input as well or just output.
Any ideas?
No you can use teamviewer as a remote though
nopez. there is no way a normal Tablet or even Laptop lends just the screen to an external source.
Unless a niche product i am unaware, No video input (HDMI or whatever) input to be found. Just Output.
So a software solution is needed to replicate the phone on the Tablet screen. And that will not make the phone desktop to switch to Dex mode.
Samsung Sidesync program is what you need to run in your Windows 10 Tablet. Hopefully a future iteration of Samsung soft will allow for kind of "dex mode" desktop, as it would allow a better use of screen realstate in the Win10 device landscape format screen

Control phone with broken lcd

Hi
I have Galaxy Ace 4 (kitkat 4.4) with broken lcd. The screen is blank but touch should work. Earlier something was visible on screen and as I remember touch was working.
Moreover, the system had some failure due to permanent "application xxx stopped working" and factory reset should be made.
I would like to use this phone as wifi hotspot. Is there any way to access the phone after factory reset? I have found application like Visor to control android via usb on pc. But developer mode has to be enabled and I'm not sure if system should be rooted.
Thank you for any help
If you can still see the screen, but the touch screen does not work:
Buy a cheap USB adapter so you can connect a PC keyboard or mouse (probably a USB C to USB A adapter). You can buy these adapters from China on eBay for $ 1 (but you may have to wait a month until they arrive in the mail. In this case, buy from a seller in your own country). I suppose you have a keyboard or just use the keyboard and use the arrows to move and select things, so I think the Windows button will become the home button. Press Enter to select and Escape to return. Or you can simply point and click with the mouse. The problem is that not all phones support "OTG", so you may not be able to read the adapter. If so, then I think you have no other choice. . But most of the stores themselves definitely support 100% OTG, so it should work normally. The problem with Bluetooth is that you need to pair it first, which requires touching the screen. Therefore, if you cannot touch the screen, using a Bluetooth mouse or keyboard may not work
If you can't see the screen, but the touch screen works normally:
Unless you change the screen, don't think that there are many things you can do. Android phones that were previously compatible with MHL allow you to use a dongle to connect it directly to HDMI. But the cell phone no longer has that function. If you have a Samsung phone, I think you can buy a Samsung Dex docking station, which will allow you to connect it to the screen via HDMI. If you can install applications on your phone, you may be able to control your phone from your computer using a screen mirroring application (there are thousands of different software that can do this, but you need to install applications on your phone). Same as Google Chromecast screen mirroring. .You need to access the application on your phone to perform this operation. Therefore, there is nothing you can do except replace the screen. If you are lucky and your smartphone supports some type of HDMI dongle adapter or some type of desktop docking station with HDMI output, you can view the phone's screen and access it.
