Eh - ya chrome checks for a "legit" OS to install on, and the newer one is real picky. There is a hacked one around that doesn't check in the Nexus S Forums or you could just change a few digits in your build.prop
find the line below - should be near the top, and adjust it to look the same as this:
ro.build.id=IML74K
good luck

[Q] Can you put a complete noob's mind at rest?

Ok, so I have a Nexus S, not 4G just the I9020A.
Up until now I kept stock Android on it, and the most creative I got was using ADW launcher EX.
After seeing ICS and waiting SO long, I just had to have it, I can't wait on Google anymore.
Anyways, I have a few burning questions
1. I'm running Cyanogenmod 9 downloaded from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356228, is this the LATEST version? I know it's called alpha 11 but I keep reading Alpha 13, can't find it to download though, so confusing.
2. Wifi isn't supported yet, right? It's not just my phone?
3. USB transfer is so sporadic, is this normal?
4. The Market barely works. I managed to download the Twitter app, and that's it, from other videos I saw, ICS automatically re-installed all their previously downloaded apps, no such thing happened for me.
5 - most important question of all - With all of this rooting, flashing, custom ROM's etc, when the OFFICIAL Ice Cream Sandwich for the Nexus S gets released by Google, will I still be able to download that and install it over the air like previous updates? (When I had stock gingerbread it just notified me and bippity boppity boo)
Or will I have to do something else?
I really love ICS but the ROM still feels just sort of like something to hold me over to the official update.
Thank you in advance!
Custom ics roms arnt ready for primetime just yet boss. Ive had the most stability with drew garens ics builds. He makes awesome roms. Id link his site but its prolly against the rules here so to get to the site just type in his namedotcom
sent from my Nexus S

1,2,3,4.. alpha11 is the older version of cm9, thats why your having those issues. the more recent cm9 is much better. alpha13 is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20220591&postcount=2236
also, there are cm9 "kangs" these get compiled on a daily basis, so contain the most current cm9 code. cm9 kangs are the same as cm9 but compiled by someone else, whose not part of the cm team, but do get compiled from the same cm9 source. sometimes they contain cherries, extras that are waiting to get approved for cm. you can get them here, the latest is always on top, and the cherries are listed to the right. the latest one is just cm9 without cherries http://fitsnugly.euroskank.com/skankwich/crespo/ and there is a thread supporting kangs here at xda http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1369146

[Q]How to update firmware - when using custom ROM Infused 2.2.3

So I'm running Infused v2.2.3
Firmware version 2.3.3
I'm still a newb at android and am not clear on the distinction between firmware & rom. I'm assuming it's like the BIOS and OS relationship on a PC.
I remember when I was using stock, I had a software update option in the settings/about phone menu. I had it under Infused 1.6, and that option has disappeared under infused 2.2.3
So, is 2.3.3 the firmware I should be running?
If no, how do I upgrade it?
Could upgrading it affect/fix my camera, because it no longer works under infused 1.6 or 2.2.3?
Thanks!

Nooope, OTA updates are "official" updates pushed out by AT&T. Infused is a custom rom...I'm assuming you want an updated GB? Look in the dev section for some of the newer roms based off of newer AT&T leaks. (2.3.5 or 2.3.6)
I'm pretty happy with Infused 2.2.3
It's snappy, I noticed better battery life etc.
I'm just trying to get my camera to work =(
That's my only qualm. Saw somewhere where someone mentioned camera firmware, and I thought that might be an avenue to pursue.

That's not really how it works, but for me, the camera seems to be the first thing that FC's on a bad flash. The way I've fixed this issue is to re-flash the rom. Option 2 would be to search the themes and apps section for a camera apk, use root explorer to place in system/app and change its permissions.
Got it uploaded and rebootig now. Is there any specific permissions it should be set to?

Installing Honeycomb Apps on ICS

I guess I am more green than I thought when it comes to this stuff, but I have an OG Asus TF101 with ICS 4.0.3. All my old apps from Honeycomb are there, work fine, but when I try to update or if I uninstall and go to re-install I am told they are incompatible for many, like HBO Go.
Am I missing a setting somewhere that will let me install these? That's for helping me out in advance with my noobery.
Did u try using AppBrain and fast web installer That is what we use when we modify build.props and change density's and the market gives us incompatibility issues so it may work the same when going from HC to ICS
Still tells me that my device is incompatible.
what ics means?
CM 9? yes?

This is what I preferred and have had used previously.
FrankenTAB will be for froyo.
VenganTAB 7.1 will be for gingerbread.
TeamDRH ICS 1.3.2 for ICS.
Currently running JB from teamDRH.

Just updated from CM7 to teamdrh Dirty Bean 5.3. I got fed up of my tablet shutting off everytime it went to sleep and then when I did aa NaNDroid backup it refused to boot getting stuck at the android screen. Bit the bullet, followed the instructions over here meticulously and booted straight into Jelly Bean. A few issues but nothing that is a dealbreaker, and it doesn't die every time it goes to sleep!
How to Upgrade from GtabComb 3.1
It has been quite some time since my last visit. I've been running GtabComb on my gtablet, and want to upgrade. I've printed RayWaldo's instructions for upgrading to TeamDRH's Jellybean, but haven't begun the process. I'm eager to get to a modern, stable version of Android, but am not sure if I should just dive in and follow the instructions in the file. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

Just checking in to see if you upgraded, and how did it go, and what are your thoughts on JB? I didn't review all comments, but TDRH's JB seem to be stable. I've been using FrankenTab for a while - stable and good ROM, but I too want to upgrade to a modern, stable version of Android.
Thanks Efros for the link - I don't upgrade often, detailed steps is a good safety net for me.
I have tried all the roms out there. But Vegan 5.1 is probably the most full featured . It is a PITA to downgrade to the 1.1 bootloader, but worth it , IMO. Full hardware acceleration, very responsive and smooth. Old is gold, at least till fosser and team get jelllybean fully functional.
