Well I wanna buy a new phone (obviously) and I want your advice.
I currently have a Samsung Wave, I gotta change it since Bada OS is a piece of crap, and I currently do NOT recommend it to everybody until Bada 2.0 is released
Things I care about :
-Android 2.3 or updatable to 2.3 | updatable to Ice Cream (optional)
-Strong sound quality through headsets
-Great camera, 5.0 or better. Flash isn't important if the night mode is great
-Speed, 1GHz processor and ability to play 3D games smoothly, I hate lags
-Popular to developers, so I can find some advices and easy to root
-Long-lasting, i'll keep the device I buy for 2 years
-Screen above 3.7", screen should be the best thing, so either SAMOLED or SLCD
-Not as expensive as Sensation and Galaxy S II, budget is $530
-Long supported, so the company won't sell me out. That automatically eliminates Motorola.
Any advice's appreciated, Thanks.
The og Samsung galaxy s or one of it variants.

What do you think of the HTC Desire S ?
How about going a itsy bitsy bit higher price and get one of the latest flagships like HTC Sensation, HTC EVO 3D, or Samsung Galaxy SII?
--- meaning: change your requirement a tiny bit ----
Edit:
Long support? I believe no company will give you long enough support, I believe only rooting and getting support from the devs in this forum is the best way
The term support, I understand it as software update support, so that you can go as far as you can with the phone.
example:
Desire with Gingerbread and Sense 3.0. These you can get only on the unofficial way done by the devs.
I have the original HTC Incredible. Very happy with HTC phones. I would buy another and likely will when the time comes.
You just described the Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000
I had the phone for 8 months and that's a super device. No way to brick or anything, with great customizations and mods..

Haha thanks man, I guess rooting is inevitable after a while.
And I saw these two phones and they're perfect, but I can't afford them as i'm using my money for a lot of things, it'll be a bit hard so i'm asking for some cheaper phones

Thanks man. But i'm wondering is the Galaxy S still a strong device after all this time ?
The main competition now is between Samsung Galaxy S and HTC Desire S, I tried both these phones and even with that i'm confused lol. Who's better with the things that I care about ? I already know Galaxy S has a better screen but I mean besides that, and thank you all very much
Yeah, I would go with the Evo 3d. Really a great phone. But might be too pricy?
Eventually it's up to you. But have in mind that the Galaxy S was chosen as the best smartphone of 2010 and sold a bit over 10 000 000 devices globally..
If you would be buying this device and would need help about anything related just PM

Hello guys!
I'm looking to purchase a new phone, I have narrowed my choices and my budget down to either the HTC Wildfire S or the Samsung Galaxy Ace.
I just want to know your opinions to find out which one is the better phone, and which one is better value for money.
I can buy the HTC Wildfire S for £175 (Including £10 Top Up) on Three.
I can buy the Samsung Galaxy Ace for £145 (Including £15 Top Up) on Three.
Which one is better overall?
I know the Samsung has a better CPU than the HTC but doesn't the HTC run a better version of Android? Or do they both run 2.3?
I want the phone for general use- a lot of texting, a few phone calls, browsing facebook a couple of times a day, and checking emails once a day. I'm not looking to hack or flash custom roms etc, just practical use.
Thank you for all your replies in advance, they will be greatly appreciated.
Curtis.
Personally I would avoid the wildfire and go for the galaxy ace.
Will run better and smoother I'm sure.I've only briefly seen the galaxy but hated my original wildfire! I have the s2 so have started to really like Samsung so far in comparison to HTC handsets!

Thank you for your reply, I've heard good and bad things from both handsets but still undecided- so far im swinging towards the Ace mostly because it has a bigger screen and i know Samsung have good customer support (From experience) whilst i have heard HTC are dreadful in that department.
Thanks
No problem, let up know what you go for in this thread! hopefully you will be typing with your New phone! Plus if you need assistance feel free to ask!

Galaxy ace and you will be much happier in many aspects

go for samsung Ace.. wildfire has a really smallscreen and poor battery.. i hav used it .. though sense ui is a killer thing but if yu like bigger screen nd better processor nd battery go for Ace
Htc wildfire s is even slower than the gio, which is much cheaper.. and the ace is the better version of the gio. Buy the ace

Thanks for your replies guys, im going for the Galaxy Ace, not only because it is cheaper but because you all seem to know what you're talking about, so im taking your word for it! Ill hopefully be picking it up before Christmas, or as soon i sell my old phone and 'lend' the money from my parents!
Thank you.
Wildfire S
I would go for Wildfire S without any doubt.Wildfire S performs better than Ace in benchmarks,it has more RAM,Sense UI,design and build quality is great, touch sensitivity is better.Ace's processor is same as Wildfire S,only factory overclocked to 800 MHz.The only problem is battery life ,a little too short and internal memory,150 Mb user available compared to 180 Mb of Ace.
Guys I am planning to buy a new phone. I want your suggestions about choosing the right one. I am relying on good battery life and phone which has a good amount of development going on (custom roms, kernels, miui, cyanogenmod, ics etc.) coz I love to fiddle with devices a lot. My current choices are :
Samsung galaxy R
Samsung galaxy S plus
HTC Desire S
HTC Incredible S
These are my options but senior members can suggest me phone in range of 23000 INR ($475).
Thanks in advance guys

No brainer ! Its Galaxy R.
I had gone through the same list of phones before I got my R, so I am suggesting you on that basis.
It's battery life is better than the others, you can yourself check out gsmarena's battery test for this handset then you'll understand better.
SGR is a class better device. It's like to compare BMW and VW. As a former HTC IS user I must discourage you from buying this handset. Although development base for SGR is still not equally impressive as for HTC phones i would definitely choose it. Single core is an obsolete solution now.
By the time you buy the R , I'm sure CM7 would be here XD
Herpderp Defy.
Hello.
I'm proud owner of HTC Sensation but i decide to change it.
But i don't know which phone to take.I have 3 options -
- stay with HTC Sensation ( maybe in future change to One X )
- buy Galaxy Nexus
- buy Galaxy S III
What i want?
Good support from xda ( every model have )
Good hardware ( One X vs Galaxy S III )
great photo funcionality ( i think HTC sense camera app is the best i seen )
gnex have good future support from google but his HW isn't too good as S III/One X
on S III i like SW features which i hope to be ported on other phones.
So i dont know which phone to take.

Yeah, maybe the hardware of GNex isnt the top, but but it can handle everything and Google optimizes Android for it really good. All of these are good phones. If you want a quad core proccessor, then go with either S III or One X. If dual core, but very smooth phone is enough for you, then go with GNex as it will get updates from Google. Jelly Bean brought a speed boost and extra frames, so its as smooth as S III now. Samsung is well known for stopping updating his phones. S III will get Jelly Bean, but it will not most likely get Key Lime Pie as a new Samsung flagship device will be released.
Thanks for answer.
I think i get gnex. Just for google device and i will see
I had to decide between the same devices one/two week ago. I've took the One X
I would suggest you get the Galaxy Nexus.
The phone is well priced and its Google's flagship device so you will continue to receive support for a while.
Google also recently dropped the price for the phone to $350 which I feel is a great deal for a brand new Android phone. Keep in mind though, they will charge you tax and shipping which brings the price to nearly $390. Nevertheless, this is a great deal!!!
It might also be worth waiting for the next Google phone. Google always releases new phones in December or at the beginning of the new year. That way you can buy the latest Google phone or you can get a steep price cut on the current (but soon to be old) Galaxy Nexus.
I have heard good things about Samsung Galaxy SIII but it cannot compete with the full support and backing of Google which the Galaxy Nexus has (for some time until it is overthrown by the next Google phone).
The thing which makes Android phones great is the software and the Galaxy Nexus will continue to receive the greatest and newest software for at least a year more so it is still a great buy.
Unfortunatelly HTC does not sell smartphones in my country, so I'm going for a GIII, the best option for the brazilians...
One X

id go for galaxy nexus, cause i already bought one, i like the design and google support.
Yeah go for the Galaxy Nexus. It's amazing
S 3
S3 all the way....but One X isnt bad also due to its camera.
Hello,
maybe stupid question. Maybe it was already answered.
Is it worth to upgrade from Desire S to Galaxy S 3 ? In slovakia, it costs 465 EUR.
I'm planning to buy a new phone. Should i buy S3, or wait for something new ? However, i don't plan to buy phone for 700 EUR. About 500 euros is my top limit.
What do you think ?
One is a small, old phone, will old camera, but it does everything quite well.
The other one is a huge new phone that's a powerhouse in any of its incarnations, and it flies.
If you're asking about the difference - it's a BIG difference.
But what's "worth it"? It's completely personal and subjective. If you have better way to spend almost 500 Euro and you don't care about having the latest and the greatest, and your current phone serves you fine - then it's not worth it. If you want a new and powerful phone, and feel that your DS is annoying you - go for it. Only you know what's "worth it" and what isn't - for you.
By "is it worth" i mean, whether i will have top smartphone at least for 1/2 year.
Because new Galaxy will be probably presented soon, also new phones from htc... Ubuntu phones, tizen etc..
I am affraid, that i will buy top phone at the moment, but in one / two months it will be "old".
I have bought the galaxy note 2 and I'm planning to use it for over 2 years. Who cares you won't have the fastest phone in 1 year... everybody has that same problem so nobody has that problem. In other words, what are you missing now what you will have with the S3?
My previous phone was a galaxy S. This phone served me over 2 years, with all kinds of custom ROMs. Maybe you should focus on a 2 year life cycle instead of 2 months top of the bill.
Good luck!

Camera & connectivity.
I am experiencing much worse download / upload speeds, even death grip on my desire S.
Comparing to my brothers Galaxy S3, same carrier, phone next to phone.
Well, then you just answered yourself.
Question is: dont you think, i should wait for galaxy s IV ? How much will it be ?
Odp: Galaxy S3 - is it worth to upgrade ?
Buying top models of anything was always waste of money for me. Good midrange is usually better choice. Always you can swap your phones more frequently for saved money. Don't pay for "best phone" label which will be removed sooner that you expect.
I had S3 in my hands. Decent phone but I didn't piss my pants.
and they are going insane with the ever growing dimensions of top phones...
Well...planning to upgrate my DS to Butterfly..Whts the opinion Guys...confused between note 2 one x+ and butterfly..
Sent from my HTC Desire S using Tapatalk 2
My HTC Desire S digitiser is really damaged which sucks because I like my Desire S a lot so I have to use a Galaxy S right now and I'm definitely planning to upgrade to an SIII
Despite the increased screen I still feel I can use it one-handed if I need to (for everything except typing) and the battery is a huge improvement over both the Desire S and Galaxy S
It comes down to personal preference though and the phone will last years because of dev communities like this one here at XDA
Just ordered Onyx Black SGS3 i9300 ) :victory::victory:
Yeah, ONYX ! Don't know why, everywhere on internet they call it sapphire black, but in slovakia, it's Onyx black
Good luck with your new toy

One x+ if you want lots of storage and a device that can still be operated with one hand. Butterfly if you want a powerhouse. I would stick with HTC phones if I were you they have improved IMMENSELY since the days of the desire s. Build quality has improved and the display/designs of the phones are top notch! The One X had a slight problem with battery life but since then they've been on the ball. Samsung phones IMO are just crappy. They look cheap and the design/build quality is nothing compared to HTC's
Absolutely love my S3 its a massive improvement over the Ds but is itself approaching its first 'birthday' so if it were my money I would hold on until the first raft of 2013 phones get released to see what's on offer then decide ...good luck
YES, you won't regret it, s3 is a stunning phone, although as said above, it is old now, new phones are due out soon, so hang on if you can bare as the price of s3 will drop or the s4 or the new M7 will be an option
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
devices like s3 , one x only gets old for the rich people ,who will throw away a S3 and say 'umm its OLD now ' ,, i still like my desire s , and my freinds still ask me" you got a new phone ??" when i flash a sense 4.1 or JElly bean rom ,,
I woukd have not retired I tv yet...still love this phone...but a relative is coming back from to India...after a gap of 3 yrs..and he asked which phones I want..can't wait for ling as he's coming this mid march....
As of now have asked him..to bring butterfly, liked the 2 GB ram option......have heard of one x + WiFi issues a lot...so bit sceptical abt it...note 2 as currently top phone...and only for S pen...
Sent from my HTC Desire S using Tapatalk 2
I think the desire S works fine but personally, the screen is too small. It's a good upgrade if you find that the screen is too small for you.
Cancelled my order for S3 today. Wait 2 weeks, they said :/
Also, droptests of S3 made change my mind..
