All these new phones are coming out with no microsd slots.
Its really making me mad. I hope Google is not pullin the plug on them.
Google isn't pulling the plug necessarily. Android still supports MicroSD just fine.
Manufacturers are just making phones thinner and don't see it as much of a selling point. As we saw with HTC today, instead of offering SDcards, they're offering 25gb of free Dropbox storage.
SD or no SD
I made a final purchasing decision based on having a micro SD card. My final choice was between the Google Nexus and the HTC Rezound. I went with the resound because it has a micro SD slot. I just like being able to port ROMs and apps and music and such between devices easily.

Going to buy the DHD on monday and i read about troubles with the "slow" class 2 microsd card which comes with the DHD (like 720p recording isnt smooth enough).. should i get a 16gb class 6 sd card? or is class 4 enough? or is even the 8gb class 2 which comes with the DHD fast enough?
Thought about a Transcend 16gb class 6 (but its pretty expensive.. 56€ = ~65$ i think).. so maybe a cheaper (class 4 or class 2) is enough?
thanks

I have had no problems with the card provided. I find it hard to belive htc would supply a sd card that is not capable of using all features of the device. I am sure someone disagrees, your best bet is to stick with the one provided. If you do have any problems with the class 2, you can always try a class 4.
Try eBay, here are 2 good (and free shipping) deals I took. Still waiting on delivery, but you can't really beat the price.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280603123927 <-- 32GB (at least class 4/6) (ebay removed item, possibly fake, awaiting 'shipment', card arrived, working 100%, not fake )
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260710352568 <-- 8GB class 10
If anyone buys a higher class SDCard could you provide a mini review. I'm in the market for a well priced, but balanced with performance SDCard.
Reading manufacturer reviews is pointless, and inexperienced users are the same.
Anyone who can recommend a good/great SDCard will get my thanks, and maybe a thank-you donation.
I will let you know as soon as I get them
Please do, I much prefer a good user review to a standard "It works" review. Many thanks & Merry Xmas
My DHD came with an 8 GB class 4 Sandisk, so don't know if the included card varies, depending on where you buy it? Since you're talking about class 2 and all.
Anyway, I bought a 16 GB class 4 Kingston, the worst piece of crap I've ever had, corrupted data and apps on sd constantly and slow transfer speeds via USB. Don't know if that's just the way that card works with the phone, or if I got one from a bad batch. But anyway, now I'm waiting for a replacement Sandisk 16 GB class 2, hoping it'll do a better job.
if we buy another sd card apart from the stock sd do we need to copy paste some folders which are spesific for some apps or the apps will recreate them in the new sd?
The one included with mine is only a class 2. (cant remember name now, sorry)

Copy the contents of the old sdcard to a folder on your pc. Then copy that to the new sdcard after formatting it. Just did this last night when I put in my new (Xmas pressie!!) 32GB card. I formatted the card first in the phone.
HTH.

Thanks a lot Dave, so soft copy/paste for files & folders is enough for new SD card transition.
Good to know that. BTW Which SD card is your 32 GB, did you notice any speed improvements with your new SD?

It was for me. I actually formatted the card in my old Nokia E71, plugged the E71 into my PC and mounted the card. Then 'copy n pasted' the files over. Seems a weird way to do it but a) my SD to microsd adaptor card is b&ggered so had to use the (a) phone and b) I only have USB2 connectivity on my PC so copying the c. 25GB of music etc I have took several hours. Tying up the old phone was preferable to tying up my current DHD.
One thing though. I'd read that the best way to format an SD card was using 'sdformatter' from http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter/ .... which sounded like a good plan. However the formatted card couldn't be read on XP Pro SP3 PC. Hence why I formatted it on the Nokia. That worked a treat.

I got this one ... http://www.mymemory.co.uk/Micro-SDHC/MyMemory/MyMemory-32GB-Micro-SD-(SDHC)-Card---Class-4 .... Not noticed any speed improvements, though probably as I haven't used it much yet. To be honest the reason I got it was mainly to hold all my music so getting rid of an MP3 player. Any sd card is fast enough for that. I haven't checked out the exact feeds and speeds but I'm suspecting that any card is also fast enough for video/still shots as I haven't noticed any problem yet!
Cheers
Dave
I got the 8GB class 10 one (around $20 inc shipping, got here in less than 2 weeks), quick test show read speed to be 17.4MB/sec (looking for a decent app to measure write speed, preferably non destructive unlike the way HD Speed does)
As for the 32GB one. Think it was a scam, ebay removed page. Gonna wait a little, as it did have a shipping number before all the details disappeared, if it does not arrive, I will contest the $14 I paid for it.
Update: The 32GB one, not a scam, just arrived. Sandisk 32GB class 4, tested, all working What a bargain!
I'm having a tough time deciding whether or not to get the 32gig model or the regular 16. I don't plan on really storing any video or mp3s on the tablet, if anything I'll just use it to store games/apps and GPS maps. Do you think a 32gig is overkill for just that?
Yes since you have a microSD slot and unlimited web storage.
Isn't the web storage only for a year?

It's not really overkill, I was in the same boat as you, since the built-in memory is much faster than any microSDHC you can put there.
However, after thinking a lot, I decided to buy the 16gig version.
1. For $100 I can buy a good speedy 32gig microSDHC for a total of 48gig, IMO, this is better value.
2. I currently have the iPad 2 for testing, near 70 installed apps, 1gig of HD videos, 2+gig of music, near 1GB of pictures, apps + browser + email cache, etc... for a total of 8gig used. This means that the built-in 16gig should more than good for a lot of apps, cache and other main stuff, while the local media goes to the SD card.
I'll be the voice of dissension.
I see SD expansion as a means of accessing temporary, view once/not often type files. If you're augmenting your main system memory with SD the minute you buy something, I feel you've already admitted you should have bought more onboard storage.
The minute you start loading apps or data for apps onto SD is the minute you remove any capability to start swapping your SD cards.
Of course, if you really do only plan on doing what you stated 16gb might be enough for quite a while. For me, I'm always a, "what if", sort of hardware buyer.
If you want to pay $100 more for "what if" then go ahead. By the time you use up 16GB + 16GB OR 32GB microSD card, there will be tablets coming out with 64GB and 128GB internal storage which will render yours useless.
Spend the $100 on accessories or the dock.
If you have money to burn then I guess 32GB wouldn't hurt with 32GB microSD card and 64GB SD card for the dock.
For games/apps/gps maps... definitely go 16GB.
My SGS only has 2 gigs of internal storage, and atm I have ~ 110 apps installed on it. Of those 2 gigs, I have 1.16GB of free space left. I've not set any of my apps to be run from the microSD card, either.
I'm not sure how much data the maps will take up (when I updated my stand-alone GPS, the DB was less than a gig in size...), but worst case that's something you could easily put on a microSD card for MUCH less than $100 (a 32Gig one won't cost you 100!).
The tablet itself has a MicroSD slot. The dock has a standard SD slot, and the USB ports can be used for mass storage devices... 32Gig is way overkill for how you describe your needs.
Plan on getting the 16g one, and thats the one I have on order. But if the 32g shows its face before my 16g one ships. I'll be all over that.

I'm paying a $70 premium to not lock down my SD card. I don't like painting myself into a corner. 16gb of course might be plenty for the OP, I just don't agree with people implying SD expansion comes with zero negative penalties.
Well i went for the 16gb version and popped a 16gb class 10 card in (£16.99) and have bought a 500gb portable HD (£35). That should give me plenty
Admittedly though accessing the SD card isnt as easy as internal memory from many of the apps but things like music and photos and ebooks were found automatically
Over the years I've had a number of Android devices and a number of a micro-SD cards, and they've all been completely unreliable. Last night I put what I thought would be a good Sandisk Ultra card in my Tab S, freshly formatted, loaded it up with a few hundred files, and this morning the tablet said the card had been ejected. Now the tablet doesn't see the card, and the PC says the card needs formatting.
So are there specific cards people have found that work well in these devices? I had this trouble with this card in a Galaxy SIII, and a variety of other cards in various other devices, so I have no idea what might actually work.
this one is 16gb, but they also have 32 and 64
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Class...15057423&sr=8-4&keywords=samsung+micro+sd+pro
Thanks for that, I'll check it out.
I got to looking around on Amazon and found the card I ordered a while back, turns out many other people had issues with that card and various Samsung devices, so it's not just me, and Sandisk will replace it under warranty. So I think I'll try the Samsung card and try getting a replacement card and see how it works out.
My other micro-SD cards could have just been junk, and there might have been issues with the other devices I was using too. I hope that's the case.
I have had my mobiles all with internal storage since my first smartphone, and so had both the limits of whatever the phone had and also the simplicity of one storage. I'm now getting into the G4P and I had a 64GB and a 128GB microSD card, the 64GB was in a family member's phone and worked fine, the 128GB I found less reliable, I got another G4P and found the SD card was often not being seen by the phone, and taking back cover off and rebooting etc, and if it did work I was getting like 2MB-4MB.
Anyhow, older wiser, I bought a Samsung Evo+ card based on reviews, unlike the daily deal brand I got before, and its night+day different. I can now tell the Moto camera app to write to SD and it doesn't crash, and the card stays visible.
If you're making the journey into the G4P don't skimp on the cheapest SD card it ruins the experience.

Not sure if size makes a difference but I'm currently using a 32gb high speed card in my g4p and it was pretty cheap at Walmart. It also seems to work very well.
32 gb card is enough for me to deal with.
I bought 32 gb sd card along with g4 play from amazon and my friend bought same with 64. He is facing phone storage issue whereas I am not. I think sdhc card is more reliable than sdxc.
I'm currently using a 64 GB MicroSDXC UHS-I Card from the relatively unknown manufacturer 'QUMOX'.
I was pleasantly surprised.Particularly with regard to the comparatively low cost.
In any case is the performance as every bit as good as the from SanDisk based on my experience.
I'm using a 32GB Kingston card, SDHC, that I purchased in November of 2014 for my LG F6. I replaced that phone 2 weeks ago with a Moto G4P, and I have had zero trouble with it. My music collection is on there, and I've been using it every single day since I purchased it.
Hey I made a petition asking Samsung to add back the SD card slot, at least in the ultra line.
If you like SD card slots and would like to see them again, consider supporting it so Samsung see's there is still interest.
If you don't like SD slots, or don't care about them, don't waste energy arguing about it, just don't sign it.
Here is the link, https://chng.it/6wjJMQDvgm or search for it on change.org.
Thanks either way!
No SD card slot, no sale.
Between Samsung's and Android 11/12's weak offerings I bought my second new N10+, a reliable and proven workhorse.
If Samsung doesn't listen, it will cost them sales.
I'm good for another 2-4 years if I want...
Personally I could use two or three 1tb slots plus a sim card slot. My current database is 2 tb.
Samsung is going backwards.
