I'm on insertcoin 4.6.1. With sebestians kernel and I'm using setcpu to 1.6 MHz and I read it turns on both cores, will running both damage my phone?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using xda premium
Don't think so, will most likely just drain power quicker.
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio using Tapatalk
Running both cores would heat the phone up even more since you're running two cores. Also our cores are asynchronous so it isn't in their "nature" to run simultaneously. So I wouldn't recommend it.
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio using XDA App
setcpu does run both cores. I noticed when i flashed a new higher kernel and im running full max on cpu my phone over heats. I also did a benchmark test on max and it resetted my sensation. When i set the kernel cpu lower other than max not only did i get better test results but i had no reboots or lags on the rom.. and thats on setcpu
I agree its unnecessary. I get a bunch of fc's then reboots start as my cpu overheats and cuts out.
So what cpu tool do you recommend? I'm also using SetCpu.

System Tuner Pro. I've found this the only tool that makes boot settings stick when running ics.
I agree. I use Rom toolbox myself with sdbooster and. I set my CPU on Rom and boost my sd card up. Play around with it and do some antutu benchmarks..good luck.

Also, you're running ICS, which is optimised for dual core performance, so leaving our cores the way it is should, be just fine.

I have cyanogenmod 7 rom installed along with leedroid kernel and one of the two has an overclock kernel, i use setcpu to overclock up to 1.7ghz. i use cpu gauge to monitor the core clocks, but no matter what i have the cpu clocked at the cpu gauge always says core 2 is offline, i have used other CPU monitoring apps also and they always say the same thing. Why is the second core not working?
Sent from my Sensation using XDA App
I think system tuner is the only one that's able to read second core performance. Could be wrong though. Also, isn't the LeeDROiD kernel for Sense ROMs? Why don't you put something like Bricked's AOSP kernel in there instead? Might help ya out.
Hey thanks alot, ill give it a try.I only used leedroid because it was the first one that has worked for getting rid of all the bloat. Ill try the bricked though

The processor is being overworked for some reason. Also, SetCPU causes problems with Faux's kernel, you really shouldn't use it...that could be part of the problem. Another part is that you are lowering the device's max CPU threshold, which means it takes longer for your phone to carry out simple tasks. For a different CPU controller try No-frills CPU instead.
Yes, SetCPU is for SebastianFM Kernel ... and works very well ...
Try to flash again with SebastianFM option during install, for me work very well with or without SetCPU settings ...

Great! After No-frills is installed, the temp gets back to 30C. However the temp really is higher than stock Kernel. Is it normal?
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio using XDA
I wouldnt worry too much about that, 30C isnt too hot.. The phone is bound to heat up if you are playing with the CPU speeds. Plus running a custom Kernel, And even a case can keep the heat in..
Providing it doesnt get hot to the touch you should be fine.

My sensation starts to warm up... 40 degree again..
I worry about it because some energy loses to surrounding through heat, thus battery drains much faster.

40 is still normal. But if it worries you too much. Try sebastians 1.30.2 1.512ghz kernel. You can use setcpu to clock it down to like 1ghz or 1.2 and see if it works for you.
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio Z715e using Tapatalk 2 Beta-4
The processor in the Sensation is the same one that is in the Amaze. This processor is designed for 1.512GHz. On the Sensation, HTC underclocked the processor to 1.2. Increasing the clock back to 1.512GHz is not a true over clock, it is restoring what the processor is designed for.
go into power or battery I don't remember... then uncheck fast boot
and use system tuner instead

The only time you should be worried about the device is when it gets between 50-60C/122-140F. Even then it still isn't high enough of a temperature to harm the device.
XE and Sensation uses the same CPU?!! Got it
I flashed a new kernel-Faux123 ~
How to use system tuner? it sounds difficult..
Have you installed it yet? Everything is pretty much self-explanatory. Undervolting also help the cpu run cooler. Mine is undervolted -100mV. Very stable.
Installed
After I adjust the voltage in system turner, then...hand & restart.
1000mV for 1.51GHz, ok?
New problem found!
The fauxclock always gives a error message after adjustment...even underclock.

Overclocking implies increasing the CPU clock speed (more cycles per second).
Overclocking helps increase performance my overloading the processor thus, everything runs faster.
This can however cause phone hardware to ware out faster and cause overheating problems also.
our cpu can handle 1.5 ghz of clock speed. by default is set at 1.2.
the overclock is speed up the cpu above the maximum speed (es 1.7, the maximum stable clock we reached IMHO)
obviously high speed means less the battery, more heating and you risk to damage the cpu, because the frequency is above the max. limit
I personally keep it at 1.2ghz for daily use and at 1.5ghz for gaming, you should find you settings...
take a look to the governors, too. they are very important to control your device's response and speed. search for a specific guide to understand better
thanx allot to the both of you!!! helped me out heaps. Ill play around with it

Make sure the kernel is compatiable with your Rom and firmware! You can find then either in Android development, or themes and apps. Try development first. Good luck! remember over clocking can be more of a battery drain, just so you are aware of that. Have fun!

I just started using Voltage Control. It seems pretty good. I heard some good things about setCPU and some bad. That's why I started this thread. I wanna know the difference between all of them cuz there's so many lol. Like, I don't know if some are the same app with just different names or if they are made and coded differently to handle things differenly.

I'd say so. But I use to have an aria which was a 600MHz single core. I clocked it up to 806MHz. And that was considered fast 2 years ago!
With a dual core at 1.5GHz, I'd say it's nothing more than a battery drain if you aren't gaming. What I do however, is underclock my hox while the screen is off.

Using profiles? What do you underclock it to? Whenever I would do that I would set up a profile for screen off and use max 384 and min 192 or 384 but that may be a little extreme.

Same here....
I agree though, that there is rarely a real "need" to overclock unless you feel the rom is slow or you are an avid gamer..
I use SetCPU because it was the first app I came across, but I've stuck with it for the small features. I like being able to set notifications when individual profiles become active (useful for games), and seeing the "Time in State" pie chart lets me know if my CPU is being fussy when idling. Sure, other apps may have more features, but there's literally no reason for me to look for a new one
Rom toolbox pro works fantastic!

Using No-Frills, not a whole lot of features but the most lightweight app I have found for handling OC, I like SetCPU but I would get wakelocks it seemed using profiles, so didn't add much benefit IMO.
Hello,everyone....recently I overclock my desire s and thanks to many of you I received many useful information so I want to share impression how overclocking has improved performance and battery to help other like us to know what and how to use overclocking and governor....
So I start ....
I use Viper saga with tweaked kernel 3.x/ondemand with deadline/cpu min.245-max.1410
I noticed that my graphic is very good and everything works like a charm....for example in FIFA12 I noticed that even the shadow of all player are so intense and everything is so clear,it seems that improves my graphic and my phone is faster..I hope that overclocking to 1410 to not damaged my phone. So what configuration do you have ?
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
Set the governor to performance. Battery eater though. But u only can choose better battery life or smoother graphics, so make up ur mind and choose one
When playing with overclocking unstick 'set on boot'. So that it goes back to normal once reboot in case of any freeze. Overclock it based on ur desired value, experiment with it, slowly. increase the value step by step. Leave it for a day then increase again. If it freezes then u know ur phone's limit.

i have read that people say it's stable up to 1.5 GHz.
I have set mine to 1.3GHz to be on the safe side.
And set it to,on demand,so it only takes up more when it needs to.
setting it up to high speeds can result in a melt down, draining batteries and will shorten out the life of your phone even when stable for a couple of days so be aware of what your doing...
there is no best value for everyone, some say 1ghz is enough, some say 1.5 ghz is not enough.
so it depends on what you need, its a trial and error thing
u will get a fast response phone but battery life is sucs ... cant complain though

If you want separate screen on/screen off profiles, I would recommend daemon controller app (with andrev_oc installed through the app).
If you want more profiles for different situations, setcpu is probably the only real option.
Setting to 1.3 GHz depends on the kernel you're using, not on the app.
