I just rooted, s-off etc, & when I tried to make my back up after root through rom manager it said I needed the latest version of CWM. 5.0.6 I think (the orangish yellow one), but during my soff root process I installed 5.0.8 something (the blue one)? Well I did the backup & it installed the other older cwm. Do I need to change that as I'm going to be selecting an ics rom? Also am I supposed to install the extra now or does that not really matter at this point? Just wondering what to do next. Any advice and or links would help. Thanks to all again, you guys have all been awesome & helpful, it is so great to back in a forum that isn't so hostile! Lol... I won't call any out by name.....
The recovery always stays, you can update it with newer version ofc, but when you choose GB or ICS the only thing that matters is the FIRMWARE.
okay, I just updated back to the most current cwm touch, the blue one. Ive got all my backups in order, now is ext4 better than cwm? does anyone have a reccomendation for wich you use?

4EXT is the one i use and AFAIK it supports the interactive installer, which many DEVs here are using, but can't tell you about CWM!
pretty easy:
what i heard was that cmw cant but 4ext can give u choices if the dev gives u them. like u wanna install 1.2 ghz kernel or 1.5 cmw auto says 1.2 but with 4ext u can choose

Even though Clockworkmod is installed if I go into recovery, SetCPU and ROM Manager both state I do not have root permissions, is there an extra step I'm missing?
Hi, why don't simply install a custom rom. Many custom roms out there come with root, backup, task manager, OC and etc. Once you get a hang of it, you might want to try your own build.

I myself think I'll go with this one. I like the stock experience so far, but with Sense 3.0 would be even better, especially since the "answer in my pocket" thing annoys the hell out of me (problem solved with Sense 3.0).

You need to use gingerbreak. Search for it in the development section, its an app you run on your phone that installs root for you.
It may tell you that its not sure if it worked but that's normal, just reboot the phone and you will have root!

To root your stock ROM then use Ginger Break you can download a free market app called root checker to see if you have root.
I'd recommend that you also take a backup of your existing stock rom using either CWM or through rom manager backup before you install a custom rom.
I'd also suggest that you install LBC MOD custom....but try them all and decide for yourself.
I'd also recommend that you install 4EXT recovery rather than CWM as its an improved easier to use version of CWM which is updated very often.

Your quite right....you can't, I clearly was thinking straight.

Alpharevx installs clockworkmod recovery if you want.
With CWM you can make a full backup, the you can try some other ROMs. I am using virtuous unity and looks really well.

Although, you won't be able to take a successful NANDROID backup even with CWM unless you have rooted your phone.
So ive alpharev'd my DS. Just wondering if anyone can help me with what to do next. Ive never normally had a problem before (rooted/goldcarded/custom ROM/stock ROM the HTC Hero/Desire and Desire HD before with no problems) but i cant seem to figure out where to go next with the DS. Im after installing a stock ROM woth no bloatware from any carriers.
Do i goldcard and then go for it or is there something else? I dont really want to just go for it and brick my phone.

Rather than instal a stock rom, why not instal a custom rom that's based on a the stock rom like LBC MOD?

Its not that i dont see the benefits of a custom ROM, its just this one is going to be my mrs' phone and im pretty sure there's no way she'll ever need/use anything that a custom ROM has to offer. Which one would you recommend for someone in her shoes? Would need one that didnt overwhelm her with random stuff, in other words one thats more of a user experience than one thats good for dev's / tinkerers? Also, in the thread you posted above, it says you cant install OTA updates - not a bad thing but if i update a custom ROM will the phone have to be reset every time?

Ah, I see, although would still recommend LBC rom, it's stable & solid, fast, pretty, bug free and basically just improved stock.
In fact when my wife's contact is up at the end off this month, she's getting a DS and I'll be putting it on that.

I'm not sure if you're root yet? if you're not, then run ginger break v1.2.
I'd ensure that at this point after getting root that you take a full Nadndroid backup of your device using CWM recovery.
Then I'd replace your CWM recovery with the better EXT4 recovery, which is built on the same code base, but easier to use and has many more options. To do this simply download the ZIP file onto your SD card boot into recovery and select flash ZIP from SD.
Now for flashing the ROM.
I'd then look at the LBC ROM thread (although there is a lot of it, I'd suggest reading the entire thing). most of the information is in #1 and detailed guides are on LBC MOD site.
You;ll need to download from LBC MOD website both the ROM Itself v0.5.2 and the pre-WIPE ALL script, putting them both onto your SD card.
Then boot into recovery and first run the WIPE script from LBC which will create all ext4 partitions for you and WIPE ALL OF YOUR DATA in preparation for the clean install.
Lastly run the ROM ZIP which will eventaully boot a clean device.
You shouldn't need to flash a radio just yet (you can see from my signature which one I run)....everything should just work. Although there are RADIO install instructions and the actual downloads available on the LBC website.
Is it possible to take a certain app or program from a certain rom and like pull it from the rom and install it on a rooted phone? I just rooted my g2x and I want the old LG froyo camera back. Can it get pulled from another rom and installed on my phone without my flashing a new rom?[

generally: yes. However, the LG camera is a special case and a lot of work has gone into making it work on gingerbread. It is possible but you'll need a specific mod over in the Development board.

I'm familiar with this stuff but not an expert, so sorry if these are noob questions but I checked out the thread and there is a bunch of links for the camera. Which one do I download? Im guessing the 3.0 one but Im not sure. And thats the actual cam that I am going to flash on my phone right? Not a new mod? and do I flash it on my phone just like the clockwork mod? I mean the same exact process? Or is this just like an .apk that I install? Can you please help me through the process of getting it on my phone?

Yes I am on clockwork via NVflash. I'm still a bit confused. Sorry if I wasnt clear before. See, the clockwork thing was the only and first thing I flashed. I never flashed a rom or anything. I followed the instructions to root exactly how I saw them. Obviously one step was to flash the clockwork mod. Thats how far my experience with flashing goes. So Im not exactly sure what to do to flash the cam on my phone. I put it on my sd card Im assuming right? Then I do the hold volume down and power to get to whatever that screen is called? After that do I just go to "install zip from sdcard" and look for it? Thats what I assumed but I have no idea why I have to wipe cache or what dalvik is? and why/how do I fix permissions after?

1) What version of clockwork are your running?
2) How did you achieve root if the only thing you've ever flashed is clockwork?

I followed those steps.
So then you have flashed something in CWM... you flashed the root zip, no?
The same way you flashed the root zip is the same way ur gonna flash the camera, I guess since its not a rom or kernel you don't need to bother wiping catch and fixing permissions:
-Boot into CWM with vol down and power
-select install zip from sd card
-find the camera 3.0 zip on ur sd card, install
-reboot, enjoy
For future reference, when ur ready to flash a custom rom or kernel, add 3 more steps to this process:
-Boot into CWM
-wipe catch partition (in the case that your going from a 2.3.3 rom to a CM7 based rom, this step changes to "wipe data/factory reset")
-advanced, wipe dalvik catch
-install zip from sd card
-find zip and install it
-advanced, fix permissions

Yes. However, don't try to flash the LG cam over a CM7-based rom, as it won't work. 2.3.3 based roms are ok.

Which ROM is the best? I am seriously thinking about flashing a new rom on my phone. I never was but I guess flashing is like a drug, do it once and you'll wanna do it more. well atleast for me lol. I'm asking this because I was looking through the rom options in the other forum and I read something about needing to flash a kernel to overclock, then I saw a CM7 kernel with an overclock preset? Confused me a little. I can flash any rom I want and overclock myself right? Will all roms have a kernel that supports overclocking?
Can you give me the best rom/kernel to flash based what I'm looking for? I would like to overclock to atleast 1.2(Whats the highest I can do without it becoming dangerous for the phone?). I want no bloatware, can a rom free up internal memory? if so, I want that, faster then stock performance and better battery life. The LG camera or atleast a cam app that is better then stock android. I also want stablity in performance. Just for a reference, I was looking at Weapon rom, seems like the best to me, but then again I am new to the whole rom game. I know its based on personal taste, but I would like a little push in the right direction so I dont have to do trial and error with roms.

I used the Advance Ace Hack Kit (version 13012012) to root my HTC Inspire. I noticed that the version of ClockworkMod that it installed was 5.0.2.7.
I then thought I might flash a new rom so I downloaded Rom Manager. One of the options of Rom Manger is to install ClockworkMod. However I would like to verify that flashing whatever version of ClockworkMod from Rom Manager over the current version installed by AAHK won't cause any problems.
Does anybody know?

Thanks @Boss man. I had thought the same thing about clockworkmod not showing Inspire 4g, however, for the Desire HD it shows that 5.0.2.0 as the current version (not 5.0.2.7).
I've only had this phone a week, so it's all a bit new...and I certainly don't want to brick the thing if I don't have to Hoping that someone has used Rom Manager to flash over a different version (even if newer version) of ClockworkMod.

Hi, CWM recovery is a must before you flash a new rom. That won´t conflict with the Hack Kit as the Hack Kit only roots your phone. Once that is finished then there's nothing more. The CWM recovery is a new image that is flashed to your cell and that allows you among other things to backup your current rom and flash new ones.
Before you move towards flashing anything you have to install CWM or you will get stuck in the HBoot menu. Inspire 4G is fully compatible with Rom Manager and CWM and will install the last version available. When you choose to flash CWM recovery it will prompt you what device is yours...choose Desire HD and that will do. The desire HD is the European version of Inspire, but NEVER try to flash software that is for the Desire HD as that some aspects are not the same (Radio, kernel) and might jam you up. Hope it helps....

As far as you Flash the CWM recovery from the Rom Manager, it won´t jam you up as it flashes the last version that is compatible with your device. If you are in doubt you just can flash it again to make sure.
If you are thinking about installing a custom rom then don´t forget to make a nandroid backup (copy current rom) and enjoy!!...

take out the battery and insert it again, press power and press volume down, and so keep trying ... enters hboot and from there comes the recovery and makes all wipes.. I was in your same situation and that was my solution

I currently have an older version of CWR Touch on my tf, but I'd like to update to the latest. I believe I got the current one on there by flashing a custom file someone put together. I haven't been able to find one for 5.8.2.1 and I can't for the life of me get the fastboot method to work. Is there something I'm missing, or does someone know where I can find a flashable version? I know that's an option, but it's become something that I need to accomplish now. I know I'm supposed to be able to do, so I want to be able to do it. There's a very real possibility that I flash rouge over it after, but I want to at least win the battle of getting the latest CWR on there first.
Even better would be if TWRP would get ported to our TF101, the TF201 and TF300 have support, but not our OG.
Yeah, if you have CWM touch you have afaik the Latest version available for the TF. Rouge was the last updated, if you need help flashing a new recovery though just get whatever recovery.blob or image you want and I'll walk you through the commands.
Yea.. Rogue XM Touch Recovery v1.5.0-R1 (CWM v5.0.2.8) is good since it support both SD and microSD when installing zip files..
