Does the Android 4.0.3 Firmware XXLPB work on the i727? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I have an i727 LTE with Rogers and wondered if the latest ICS ROM worked on this device (the Android 4.0.3 Firmware XXLPB).

No

Sucks, guess I'll have to wait for the official ICS

Im not entirely positive, but if it worked, I would assume to see a huge thread on it.

yeah pretty sure it wont work

So at this point there are no ICS roms for the i727...

Look in Dec thread, there is one, but its an early alpha, a lot of stuff doesn't work yet. The framework is all there, but we still need a functional kernel, and as Samsung has yet to release ICS for our phones, the devs are stuck making one from scratch. I think right now they're using a modified gingerbread kernel

CM9 or Official ICS 4.0.3 FW??

I have Galaxy Note N7000, i am little confused whether to update CM9 or Official Android 4.0.3 ICS firmware which is going to release soon. if have any suggestions please let me know.. Thanks
The official firmware will incorporate most of the features of the stock 4.0.3 but CM9 will also have unique features. If you are a mainstream user the choice comes down to the eye candy really. Flash one and then the other when the stable versions are released, play around with each of them for a day or two and then you can make up your mind. =)
I gave up waiting and touch wiz is awful so i went for the cm9 thats out ust now wich needs some bugs and stuff fixed for my s2
Imho Cm9
If you are already rooted, use CM9. If you update officially while rooted, you will lose root. Then you will have to wait for a root solution to be found for ICS. Some phones went months without root after their gingerbread update.
CM9 will be more powerfull i think, if i were u i could choose CM9.
today i saw video of Galaxy Sll Running ICS 4.0.3 XXKP8 which is official Update. But it looks really Boring. Looks like Gingerbread 2.3.6. i hope samsung wont disappoint Note owners releasing such update.

That is the case when manufacturers add their UI. You are still just going to see touchwiz. The difference will be in the menus. Touchwiz will always be touchwiz, just like HTC Sense will always be Sense. Unless you are using a nexus or an AOSP based ROM such as CM9 you won't see many UI changes between gingerbread and ICS. It will look the same on the Note.
CM9, no doubt about that, Trebuchet is a beautiful launcher
Get CM9 and upgrade to official later.
I am sure official probably has better integration of the pen but idk.
I would go with CM9.

What I suggest is you is to try CM9 first. If you find any features you missed in our Galaxy Note that was in the official firmware that cannot be replicated by any means of any application then wait for Official Firmware.
Eg. I can't live without the brilliant video player so I'm sticking with TouchWiz.

I would go with CM9 and stay with it. Still waiting for CM9 to be available for my EVO. I will be so there.

[Q] ICS rom

Ice Cream Sandwhich AOSP source code has been released since late last year, I am just curious as to why the Skyrocket doesnt have a working ICS custom rom as yet.
I am a noob, but I notice many other phones have alpha builds and/or beta builds while all we have( much credit to its developers) are themed roms that look like ICS
Why is this?
ICS source code does NOT equal Samsung Kernel Source code....
you must have all the proprietary bits and blobs in order for it to work....
Drivers for the device. There has been plenty-o-talk about the subject. Samy has to release the source ICS kernel with the ICS drivers.

I'm not understanding Tjisana's question given that people like seanzscreams' have produced the Sky ICS ROM.
Is that not what he's after?
That rom is ICS themed. It is ICS in appearance only. Still a great rom but doesn't bring the features and additions that a true ICS rom will bring

Ah - got it. Shows you what little I know. That explains why the version number is still 2.3.6 and not 4.0.
Thanks for the quick update.

That's kind of a stupid statement,***mod edited***... The ICS releases that are out now are just like stock AT&T ota ics... Do you think they're going to change the rom completely or give us aosp ota??? The releases that we have are as close to stock as they are gonna get, only thing they're doing now is getting bugs out or adding apps from the carriers that they want... Have you tried all of the ICS roms out there? I've been running seanz ucle2 ics release rom and I've had absolutely no problems... As long as you read/follow the instructions completely everything should be fine... And thinking about this, the skyrocket is from AT&T not from google so we're never going to get stock ICS ota... OTA releases are not gonna be like aosp, aokp or cm9...
No no no I'm not a dev guys OK I ported the rom and the last release I only helped a bit I been busy on a few projects for the skyrocket community lol but to say the hard work and dedication that actual devs have put in is beneath you is a statement that I can not condone and actually is an insult to this site the roms in the dev section are far beyond what anything Samsung will ever do (/rant)

ICS OTA Update

Hi,
Earlier today I restored my Desire S to factory settings, expecting to receive the OTA update to ISC. However, although the update from 2.3.3 to 2.3.5 appeared, an update to ICS did not. How can I get the OTA update? My phone is unbranded.
Thanks in advance
That's because the update hasn't been released...yet.
Ah, OK. I was under the impression that it was released in June/July - that's what HTC's update timetable said, wasn't it?
Sent from my Nexus 7
Yep but it's been forwarded to sometime towards the end of this month. It will also depend on your carrier. If you want to be first to receive it your best bet will be through a custom ROM
OK, thanks for the information. I know I could use a custom ROM, but after I nearly bricked my phone attempting to port a Jelly Bean ROM from the Galaxy Nexus, I thought I should maybe go back to stock, for the time being at least. Once the Jelly Bean ROMs become more stable, I'll probably root again and get one of those.
Also, I've heard some people say that once I upgrade to ICS with HTC, I won't be able to root/S-OFF again. Is this true? If it is, I probably won't bother getting the OTA to ICS.
You attempted to port the JB ROM? Man if have that kind if skill, is it hard for you to root and install a ROM?

Have you tried using CM10? It is in alpha stage but it is pretty stable and most features work. Also it is super quick and smooth
Sent from my Desire S using xda app-developers app
No, actually, it isn't to hard for me to root my phone and run a custom ROM. I've been running custom ROMs on my Desire S for the best part of a year now.
@mzr92 No, I haven't tried Cyanogenmod 10. Since it was in alpha stage, I wasn't sure how stable it was. I might just try that out. Thanks for the suggestion.

ICS or Custom ROM's on Blaze 4G

I just bought a Samsung Blaze 4G from T-Mobile, rooted it, downloaded some apps. I've heard that you can update a lot of devices to a newer OS prior to the official release with rooting. So now I am wondering if I can update this phone to ICS (Jelly Bean would be better if possible?), are there any ROM's of ICS for this phone. If not what ROM's are available (CyanogenMod), it would also be nice if you could explain me how exactly install custom ROM's and where is the best place to download them. Also will there ever be an official update from T-Mobile of ICS. This is my first Android device, I used to own an iPhone and knew how to do all of that jailbreaking and cydia stuff but this is different. Thanks for your help.
Best start reading.
In short: No ICS yet (I suspect not for another month or two, if ever) and all ROMs are in the Development section. We have an unofficial CM7 with a buggy camera.

If you want something stable I would suggest either dark knight or tweaked, although I have never tried Jedi mind tricks it looks stable though
