**[GUIDE] Format SD-card complete, Fresh start after many flashes** - HTC Inspire 4G

Ok so Ive just completely formatted my SD card and installed the first ROM version/file system on it since the format.
All went very smooth and I would like to share my steps with anyone interested.
1. PHONE: flash collective recovery via latest ROM build FOUND HERE
2. PHONE: reboot into touch recovery
3. PHONE: mount usb storage
4. PC: go online and download latest build (ALSO FOUND HERE) to desktop or wherever, then verify md5 to build download.
5.PHONE and PC: browse through existing file system on phone and backup to desktop on pc, any music/ringtones/pictures/CWM backups/important app data using my best judgement and preserving folder layout by copying the entire folders and subfolders.
6.PHONE: disconnect from USB storage
7.PHONE: enter wipe/format menu within recovery then triple wipe(wipe data, cache, dalvik)
8.PHONE: "format all partitions(except SDcard)"
9.PHONE: "format sdcard" from same wipe/format menu (SCREENSHOT SEEN HERE)
10.PHONE: mount USB storage within recovery again and add the latest build .zip file to the root of your sdcard which should have only one folder now... "4EXT". Do not add it within 4EXT but rather below it on root of card. You should now see the folder "4EXT" and the .zip below it.
11HONE: disconnect USB storage
12HONE: install zip from sd and flash latest build, once prompted, reboot.
DONE - with a super clean sccard and install/flash
once your new file system is in place, set-up and stable ... add back your important folders/files as needed via USB
tips. ALWAYS "EJECT" YOUR USB STORAGE DEVICE FROM PC, THEN PHONE! This simple step can save you a big headache later...
You do not have to use Ascention and can flash the ROM of your choice as long as its pre-rooted
Hope this helps anyone who can use it.
FLAWLESS!!!
credit to collective team for ROM/recovery

Awesome!!! Thx

[Q] In ClockwordMod Recovery but no Cyanogen Mod update zip

Galaxy S2 GTi9100
Hi,
I rooted my phone today and am now trying to install Cyanogen Mod. I followed all steps on their Wiki but now am facing a problem.
- The wiki says "Place the CyanogenMod update.zip file on the root of the SD card. "
- I placed the update .zip file on the root of the external sd card. Seems like that was not what was intended.
- I followed these steps successfully:
Boot into the ClockworkMod Recovery.
Once the device boots into the ClockworkMod Recovery, use the side volume buttons to move around, and either the power button or the trackball to select.
Optional: Select backup and restore to create a backup of current installation on the Samsung Galaxy S II.
Select the option to Wipe data/factory reset.
Then select the option to Wipe cache partition.
Select Install zip from sdcard.
Select Choose zip from sdcard.- The next step is "Select the CyanogenMod update.zip. "
The problem is I don't see the CyanogenMod update .zip file anywhere in that list. Seems like I may have placed it in the wrong sd card?
When I try and reboot it just comes to the screen with the giant S and goes no further.
How can I resolve this problem?
Adding some more information after reading a few other threads.
- Looks like I placed the cyanogen mod update .zip file in the external sd and not the internal one (stupid!!).
Now I cannot get back inside the phone to try and place it in the internal sd.
How do I solve this?
Connect the phone to the PC and mount usb in recovery. You should see a storage device in windows & then just copy the files on it.
Ok. Just tried that. After I select 'mount usb storage', the next screen says on the top:
USB Mass Storage device
Leaving this menu unmount
your SD card from your PC
I then see an option to unmount.
On Windows explorer, I don't see the device.
Thinking back, I may have unchecked 'USB Debugging' before I started the process (for some reason that I cannot remember now). Would that cause a problem?
USB Debugging should not matter because you're in recovery.
I've not understand at well the question. You want flash the CM9 from clockwork mod? I've a Galaxy Gio, but in my case i have only to:
1 - copy the ROM in the root( after flash with manager of Android, with an SD adapter or in the other possible way)
2 - backup the old rom from cwm;
3 - reboot in cwm and if i have mount errors of /cache /data or some other partition i format it and mount it manually from cwm
4 - flash the zip i've copied at step 1
Then you have to wait and at the end, reboot.
What goes wrong in these steps for you ?
EDIT: If you don't see the .zip try to remove SD and use a SD Adapter, so you can copy files manually. Or if you want use CWM you can mount the device connecting device with USB cable, go in clockwork and do "mounts and storage -> mount USB storage" and copy files in the root "/"
You can use adb push command in recovery to push files to the phone.
You can also use fastboot to flash image files to the phone.

Step 1 went wrong
I copied the ROM in the external SD instead of internal sd. Now trying the adb option to push the ROM into the device root. Hoping that works.

This guide is same as my gio guide. The ROM goes in the root of external sd, not in internal memory. Try to reinstall CWM if you don't find the zip.

Thank you my friend. This worked!
Little did I realise that this simple sounding statement above would require me to set up a complete android development environment on my computer.
I'm still not sure if all that was needed but I was finally able to get the files on my device by doing an adb push.
Lovely education for me today!
Glad it helped. Sorry I forgot to mention that ... it's kinda natural to me (having the sdk installed).

PocketBook SURFpad custom ROM with Google Play, Gmail, Talk

Hi XDA community!
Below you can find the custom PocketBook SURFpad ( mmra-global.net/pocketbook-surfpad-budget-multimedia-reader-for-android-4-0/ ) ROM (version for developers) with Google Apps embedded.
Current FW is ver. 1.2 (Android 4.0.4), I am going to update it from time to time.
Custom ROM has following differences: integrated Google apps (Gmail, Play Store, Talk), option to sync Google account in Settings, file system is mounted in Read/Write mode.
Major improvements of ver.1.2: Android 4.1 launcher, ZTE MF-100 modem support, user-friendly copy-paste in file manager, added several new keyboard layouts, etc.
Attention! All user data will be lost while upgrading your device to custom ROM or recovering device to stock ROM.
Moreover, while upgrading or working with this ROM may cause bricking your device and loosing your warranty, all your actions are on your own risk.
How to upgrade to custom ROM (with Google Play, etc.) from stock (factory) ROM:
1. Clean SURFpad internal memory, internal memory (SURFPAD volume when connected to PC) should have at least 1GB free space.
2. Insert microSD into your PC/laptop (via adaptor) and format it choosing FAT32 option.
3. Download and copy ROM file to the microSD (has .upkg extension and "DEV_RECOVERY_UPD" in the file name): goo.gl/hc8fx
4. Eject microSD from the PC and insert it into the device.
5. Open on the device Settings -> About tablet -> System updates -> SD card, select copied file, confirm (OK). Wait while ROM upgrades and device reboots.
6. Go to Setting -> Backup and reset -> Factory data reset -> Reset tablet (leave Erase SD card option unchecked) -> Erase everything.
DONE!
How to upgrade the custom ROM to the newer version (if you already installed older custom ROM version with Google Play, Gmail, etc.):
1. Clean SURFpad internal memory, internal memory (SURFPAD volume when connected to PC) should have at least 1GB free space.
2. Insert microSD into your PC/laptop (via adaptor) and format it choosing FAT32 option.

6. Go to Setting -> Backup and reset -> Factory data reset -> Reset tablet (leave Erase SD card option unchecked) -> Erase everything.
DONE!
How to downgrade to stock ROM (without Google Play, etc.) if you already installed custom ROM:
1. Clean SURFpad internal memory, internal memory (SURFPAD volume when connected to PC) should have at least 1GB free space.
2. Insert microSD into your PC/laptop (via adaptor) and format it choosing FAT32 option.
3. Download and copy ROM file to the microSD, which restores Recovery to the stock state (has usually .zip extension and "NORM_RECOVERY_UPD" in the file name): goo.gl/tzp8O
4. Download and copy the most recent official ROM file to the microSD, check for it here: pocketbook-int.com/us/node/4681
5. Eject microSD from the PC and insert it into the device.
6. Go to Settings -> About tablet -> System updates (2-nd) -> SD card, select ROM file which restores Recovery to stock state (usually has NORM_RECOVERY part in file name), confirm (OK). Wait while ROM upgrades and device reboots.
7. Go to Settings -> Backup & reset -> Recovery Mode -> OK.
8. In the Recovery menu use Volume +/- to move up/down, Power button to confirm. Choose "apply update from external storage", choose the latest stock ROM file (has .upkg extension and "ota" in the file name).
9. Confirm rebooting the device by pressing the Power button.
10. Go to Setting -> Backup and reset -> Factory data reset -> Reset tablet (leave Erase SD card option unchecked) -> Erase everything.

Problem with system updates
I've followed the the steps as you have listed them, but upon reaching 1/5th of update, it stops. The messege says "Installation aborted" and i'm in the system recovery. The device is rooted and with stock firmware, so i don't know if that is a part of the issue. All help is appreciated, thanks in advance

Get 4G Internal Memory on BLU Life View/Aqua Iceburg/Micromax Canvas Doodle 2

This app will allow you to change your phone's data partition size.
Since most people have a MicroSD card for storing their files on, the internal sdcard is just a waste of space and can be put to good use for storing apps;
This app allows you to do so.
Requirements:
A MT6589 device
Root access
A custom recovery
YOU ARE DOING THIS ON YOUR OWN RISK
(Although no serious harm can be done when correctly using this tool)
Instructions:
Make a backup of your files in your recovery (if you want to preserve them) and make sure they are stored on the external sdcard.
Download, install and start the Meteos app for your specific ROM size and choose your desired Data partition size.
Press "Reboot into Recovery" and choose "'Wipe data/Factory Reset" on CWM or Wipe internal storage on TWRP.
Restore your backup.
Profit.
Download link: http://ge.tt/8yzn27k/v/0?c
Here is what I had to do:
1: Copy ALL contents of the "SD card" to my PC
2: Install this app on the phone
3: Reboot into recovery, make backup of phone
4: Reboot phone, connect to PC, and copy the backup to the PC
5: Reboot into recovery, factory reset/wipe data
6: Boot phone
7: Connect to PC, copy ALL contents back to the "SD card"
8: Reboot into recovery, restore from backup
9: All is back to normal, except, now I have 3.94G Internal storage, and 9.83G Phone storage

cannot see downloaded rom's in twrp

Currently running CROMi-Xeno 5.2 . I have downloaded a couple of ROMs, and they go to the default Downloads directory. However, when I boot to TWRP, I navigate to sdcard/downloads and I see a bunch of old .zip ROM files, but not my new ones. It's like I have two different /sdcard mount points or something. Any ideas?? Thanks.

From TWRP, I tried internal and external. It's weird, because in TWRP, I have a Download ( only one Download directory, not another download ) and I see older ROMs I've downloaded. But while it's running...if I plug into my laptop, I see only two ROMs, CROMi-X DEODEX 5.2.3_Signed.zip and CROMi-X DEODEX 5.2.4_Signed.zip, which I've just downloaded.
Disconnect USB from laptop, on tablet, using file manager, browse to /sdcard/Download, I see what I saw while it was plugged in, just the two ROMs. When connected to my laptop, I even created a new directory called ROMs.
I have a formatted ( to 200MB FAT ) MicroSD to use with Data2SD...which shouldn't cause any issues.
So now rebooting to TWRP, I select Install and see "Storage: Internal Storage", scroll down to select Download, and I see all my old ROM downloads, not the two new ones I mentioned above. And I don't see my new ROMs directory.
If I select Storage at the top, my options are Internal Storage and my MicroSD card.
If I go back to the main menu, then go to Mount, these are checked MicroSDcard, Data, Cache and System is not.
Any idears?

Well, if you are on Data2SD, your data partition is on your microSD. So the directory /sdcard/ is also on your microSD. Your internal storage is /sdcardi/. But TWRP doesn't know anything about Data2SD. It's treating your /sdcardi/ as /sdcard/ and it doesn't recognize the ext4 partition on your microSD, just the fat32 partition.
Copy the new rom to your internal storage or to the fat32 partition of the microSD (actually, if your fat32 is only 200mb, it's too small for the rom zip) and you'll see it in TWRP

Deleted Everything off my Moto g.... Now What?

Hi all, i played around with my Moto G a while back, got the bootloader unlocked, put a new ROM on. Did a backup which i wanted to delete but couldnt... everytime i did a fresh install it was still there eating my memory so i wiped everything off my phone using TWRP (internal the lot!) now ive got nothing on my phone, no operating system nothing.
anybody got a tutorial to get it back up and running again? or at least some ideas on how to dispose of it haha.
thanks in advance.
*EDIT*
This post can be deleted now thanks! I have resolved this matter very easily with a very imaginative way that i never thought of. i couldnt reinstall another rom as my computer wouldnt reconise my phone in ADB. but using this method below i was able to very easily...

Alternate Method : Noob Friendly.
First of all backup your sd card (i.e data/media)
Flash Philz Touch 6.26.6 Recovery
Hope you have OTG cable and a pendrive.
Copy the rom which you want to install on pendrive. Attach pendrive through OTG.
(backup your current rom on usbdisk. For this goto Backup and Storage. Find option backup on storage/usbdisk )
