new infuse source code is available on Samsung open source release center.
it doesn't specifically say gingerbread but there are now 2 listings for i997 usa.
will download it later. not sure if this is uckl2 which they were in violation of gpl by not releasing sources or if its lb3 and we should expect yet another update in the coming days. we'll see I guess.

hoping for B3,
I'd personally rather see b1. B3 is smoother and less laggy, no touchscreen issues...but having "long" messaging issues that I didn't have with b1. I'll sit back shut up and be patient while the dev's work their magic and hopefully super one click will be rocking and rolling. Thanks for all you do guys.

that's a modem issue. source code is for kernels
not to mention it wont be lb1 because lb1 isn't official, lb3 has potential to be very soon. it could be kl2 because kl2 was released to the public, Samsung didn't release the code then pulled the update and hid behind the update being pulled to say they didn't need to release the code anymore which is a piss poor excuse being that the code was supposed to be there upon initial release. Samsung likely was trying to buy time with att or the public by saying they had unexpected issues. typical Samsung USA move.

Actually, they simply ignored all requests for UCKL2 source... I NEVER saw a response to any source code request.
GPL-violating ****ers... The I777 is likely to be my last non-Nexus Samsung device if Sony keeps it up with their (uncharacteristic for Sony) level of developer support.
I got a response. 2 actually. both identical, and they said the update was being held and sources would be released when the problems were fixed.
obviously bull**** because the sources were supposed to be released with the update. seems planned. like kl2 was just an appeasement for the anxious customers.
the odd thing is that Samsung was doing very good with source releases for the last year or so. guess they wanted to see what they could get away with.
Obligatory "will this source help with bluetooth issues on non-infuse roms" post
lol

entropy however has already patched some code into the dd kernel but it doesnt fix hdmi yet. entropy dd is based on hellraiser which linux bozo tried to bake froyo mhl drivers into but the adapter causes a forced reboot, even with some new mhl code it still force reboots, entropy is flying blind but he may come up with something.

you can discuss this in one of the many existing ics threads...
you can blame Samsung USA for this. although Samsung Korea put a lot of effort into updates for the i9000 all of the American galaxy s counterparts have been slow on updates and are lucky to get more than one major update. also the infuse is based on the galaxy s which is almost a year older. when the subject of ics on the galaxy s came about Samsung stated that they didn't have the rom storage or ram to run ics with touchwiz over top of it. while the infuse has the ram it has identical partitions to the galaxy s and has even more usage of the current rom storage.
on one hand Samsung played that game with gingerbread. saying they "might" update the i9000 to gingerbread but then it became the first non nexus device to receive the update internationally. on the other hand they have the s2 as a new flagship with the s3 on the way and might not want to continue with the dated i9000. basically if the i9000 doesn't get ics we have zero hope.
now that that's over with, can we keep the discussion to gingerbread or pending update related talk please.

Just got off the phone with magenta about my wifes phone.

made me happy, just wanted to let you guys know.

is this a joke or are u serious ?
No joke. I asked if it would be getting a 2.3 update and she said they are trying to make it so that by the end of the year all major (and sk4g is considered major) android phones will be on gingerbread. she specifically said sidekick will get 2.3 and I quote "There is no date yet, but they are trying to get it by the end of the year"
Of course, you have to keep in mind that I am taking someone elses word for it. albiet, it is someone "on the inside"
In the works is very different from saying "by year's end." Samsung makes builds and sends them to Tmo, but they never make it out to the end-user until they approve it. It's very likely that the sidekick will be one of the last of the "new" phones to get GB, as they have to add much more to our UI than just porting it to fit our processor, but also need to add the social parts of our phone (whether we want them or not).
P.S. GB has been "in the works" since the phone was released, it's all a matter of getting Tmo and Samsung to agree on what constitues a good/ releasable build.
I have the strange feeling that our sk4g won't ever get gingerbread officially t-mobile has a funny way of coming out with new devices rather than updating the original ones :-/ I forsee a new sidekick with gingerbread official coming out rather than us getting an official build. Don't quote me on it or anything its pure speculation but if I'm right give me some props or something lol
Not to say we won't find a way of porting the "new sk gingerbread" to th sk4g but I have a feeling the new device is more likely hell they may even release gingerbread for us and the new sk at the same time lol
The moral of this story is: personal opinions are fun. Aren't they? Lol

I think we're better off waiting for ICS.
long wait...
For those counting, as soon as the GB source for the SGS4G gets released I can port their GB system to our phone, their ROMs/Kernels boot on our phones, they just don't have the drivers to do anything (like display what's going on).
The SGS4G has been getting leaked versions of GB for a month+ now, so the official GB release should be soon (hopefully).

I spoke with someone that works for Tmobile and was told Tmo and samsung have been working on GB for the sidekick for more than 3 months and im guessing its taking that long cause they are trying to make it very similar to our Froyo interface, unfortunately (along with the Tmo crap). Otherwise they wouldve gave us a GB ROM similar to the SGS4G. He said he doesnt know when it'll officially be rolling out but we should have it before thanksgiving (end of november). Thats pretty far to me.. but then again i have a vibrant and still never got an official GB release so take this info with a grain of salt. as the rest of us i sure hope its comes soon. So how long would it take them to release the official gingerbread OTA or via kies???
Another month? or most likely more?
Probably not for a while. I'm guessing somewhere around Janurary or Feburary.
I think KH1 or one of the others was an update through Kies but Samsung removed it.
Hopefully they'll release an official release before they release Hercules.
For now ICINB or Valhalla are 2 good Gingerbread ROMs. Even the stock KH2 is good. I'm currently on Valhalla.

Personally u just gave up on Tmobile GB official release. They really only care about money. Soft ware support for their devices is all the way in the bottom of their priority list unless it bring in direct cash income.
Are you blaming Tmobile? Definitely is samsungs responsibility to provide the update not t mo
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
Yes t mo may do otas but they have to be given the update from the devs which I believe Samsung is holding out or not prioritizing it cause they want more moola
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
Why would tmobile want this gb leaks to their customers? They are holding up because these samsung gb are kinda pathetic to release to the masses..bluetooth issues, low wifi signal when your only like inches away etcc..if they release gb like this you"ll have many customers calling tmobile about issues left and right.unless samsung figures out a really good gb release of THEIR OWN device its not coming out!..dev s make gb good on this phone
Ohh and lets not forget sg2 is around the corner, samsung might just screw us over or the people who are waiting on GB! Tmobile in general are idiots but on this ill agree with them releasing this would just bring them more trouble than good!
My bet is that if Hercules gets released before gb update then there will be no update. That will be Samsung and t mobiles flagship device. Their focus will be on that and ice cream for the newest phones.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
Yeah good point
BTW, Ice cream sandwich is designed to receive OTAs directly from google, instead of from the phone makers. So, ice cream sandwich will only work, if they remove the updater function or dump touchwiz. And I highly doubt that they will dump touchwiz, so that means Galaxy s will die with all their devices being stuck on GB(or leaks), and they are not doing any more nexus line phones. HTC or LG will be making nexus 3. Also, you said that they would focus on releasing ICS to the newer devices, I doubt that. GB was already long out when our phone was released on Froyo. And "50+%" chance that GB will never officially come to our phones. So what makes you think that they will update to ICS. They will probably give out buggy leaks and die there.
Phone release on eclair or froyo from Sammy, will stay on Froyo.
Phone release on GB from Sammy, will stay on GB.
That is my point. Not to make anyone's hopes down. We will have a lot more fun with this phone, I guarantee that CM7 will "eventually" work and we will many more roms to come.
PS. I never liked Sammy. This was just the best phone when I bought it
im going to disagree that the sgs4g in your mind wont be getting ics as google plans to release it to all devices to unify and defragment the android os.. remember samsung makes the hardware and some of the applicatons that go in the phone they how ever do not make the os. t mobile att verizon orange vodaphone will submit to google the stuff they want in there rom (the bloatware we remove ) Once approved that there features do not break the os (this is why they do test for the most part.) the carriers get there updates and wala so do u once they are pushed out as ota or keis
You have a great point. But touchwiz is created by samsung. Standardly, otas are pushed out as recovery edify flash able files with a META-INF, and a /system and etc folders. Samsung releases their kies otas that flash a bunch of rfs files. Samsung maintains their rfs file system and zImage kernel form. Android uses boot.imgs. So in order to use ICS, there will probably need to be an irreversible boot loader flash that will make the phone use boot.imgs instead of zImages. Possibly revert method would be flash old bls with CWM or stock androidbl
I find it disheartening that people are now guessing january or february for a gb release, when in july everyone was saying august or september.
I knew before purchasing this phone that Samsung sucks at updating firmware, but it truly seemed to have the best features at the time, and to be honest, (six months later) I'm glad I didn't wait for the S2. When does the Hercules come out btw?

Disheartening indeed. The longer they take to release it the longer we all have to wait for kernel sources to be release and they have up to 3 months I believe after the OTA release to release kernel source code. Until then we have no custom kernels for GB that support cool things like Voodoo for sound and BLN. Those two things not being available for GB though the former is thanks to RaverX3X, are the sole reasons why I still stick to froyo.

With the 7.1 release the other day and all the newly supported devices, I kinda felt like the GS4G was the red headed step-child.
I brainstormed... what is the best way to get CM7+ on our device?
Best result I could come up with was to ask the guys who helped get it on the OG Vibrant.
Their response was abbreviated. (A) do it myself (not possible) or (B) get them a device.
Well, I guess that leaves trying to figure out how to get a device into the hands of an official CM team developer
OR
Coming up with a better idea.
I am soliciting advice/feedback for either of these two options.
EDIT:
Just realized my thread title is pretty misleading... but if it helps get views, sorry. It was not intentional, promise
EDIT 2:
I should also point out that I have been sending tweets to Samsung / and their support, for kernel source.
so they don't need the samsung to release the official GB for our device? cuz the source code for GB kernel will be available after that
we need the gb kernel source... mabe cough samsung cough leak us some kernel source instead of updateing the rom every 2 days
I don't think we need kernel source at all. CM and Miui are both on the Vibrant and it doesn't have any GB source because, well, there is no GB for the Vibrant.
The SGS4G and Vibrant are so similar I think a CM dev could get this working NP with the help of a couple users. But hey, what do I know?

it'll be different that the vibrant CM kernel. This is due to the source being COMPLETELY different. I've diff'd the sources, and nothing matches up.
The vibrant is using a modified I9K GB source. That is what is making it work.
As far as using the stock kernel, sure, we can do that, but it would have to be modified for every update, and nightlies... yeah, you can forget about that. RFS/EXT4 wont be added as an official CM build due to it will break the i9k/cap/fascinate/vib builds.
Once I get a new 4G, I'll continue working on the kernel/build.

No go, tried. Aosp only way, and porting is extremely hard because ics uses completely new drivers. If the gingerbread and ics kernels are woven together, it would work. Part of the reason why ICS is hard to come by is it is so different. Btw, be ready to be told no infuse devs will do it, i do not blame them. Sammy loves sacrificing peoples thoughts with money.... like apple does. Seems to gather the most people too lol....

lb's tool doesnt magically compile a kernel for operating systems the came out after the creation of the tool. that would be cool though.....
what hellraiser is is a normal infuse kernel and a collection of hardware libs pulled directly from an infuse rom to interface with the kernel. it only does gb and was only possible because gingerbread was already available on the rogers infuse.
but an i9000 ics release could potentially help an infuse port but we would need a kernel dev in on it that had some knowledge of the differences between ics and gingerbread. but in reality the biggest thing holding up an aosp version (with some things broken of coarse) is a lack of a dev familiar with aosp ports on galaxy s phones. much of the major hardware is the same as the nexus s, even tha galaxy nexus has the gpu of our phone. the cpu, gpu, audio, ect are not nessessarily a problem. wifi, gps, bluetooth, mhl, and cell connection/data could be problems but wifi and gps work in cm7 so its posible they'd also work in ics.

Um, get your facts straight before posting. XXLPQ (official ICS for I9100) was released over a month ago.
Noticed today that the Droid Charge is now FREE with 2 year contract. Think we're about to be EOLed?
Phone has almost been out a year, plus it won't be exclusive when US Cellular starts selling the Charge in April as the Samaung Aviator.

Right, but why? My guess is to clear out inventory. They are no longer selling the Thunderbolt and the Revolution is free as well. With the launch of the New Droids (Fighter, Blade, Incredible 4G, etc.) coming soon, I think they're cleaning house. Once inventory is gone, I think we're EOL.
The silver lining? The Aviator doesn't even launch until next month. It will be CDMA/LTE, so it could have the same RIL. I think Samsung will have to update it to ICS, so this means there's hope that our devs can port even if Verizon refuses to release an ICS official OTA.
It's been EOL in my mind ever since they announced that we're not getting ICS.
I was in a Verizon store yesterday. I picked up 2 charges and, without me even asking, the rep openly admitted that ICS is coming to the charge.

They never actually announced anything, one way or the other.
Don't listen to reps. Consider them to be like car salesman. They'll say what they have to in order to make the sale.

Yeah we had "reps" saying when we would be getting the GB update... and they were all wrong.

this statement is
facts
pure facts

Gb update I'd believe, but ICS I don't see that happening anytime soon. If it even happens. Rumors are rumors, not facts. Until a official statement from Verizon or Samsung is released, it will still be a rumor.
Edit: On a side note that doesn't mean we wont get it seeing as JT is progressing with ICS on charge. (Beta 2 is released) It just wont come from Verizon imo.

I do not know if this was referencing my post or not, but this was after the sale and there was no previous mention of anything relating to ICS.
I do not know if what he said was fact or not, nor do I really care, but I found it odd that it was mentioned out of the blue, like it was some new info that seemed important.

Reps often times no less than the average user of a phone enthusiast forum, and those that do know more tend to just sit and look at news sites. They are not high enough up the food chain to get any info about updates until shortly before release at the earliest. That would go for anyone working in any store, managers included. They don't provide the information until the last minute to avoid any critical issues stopping an update.

Yeah, but the issue is that Samsung's RIL does not fall under GPL and does not need to be open sourced. So, they're not obligated to release source code and, to this day, they have refused to do so.
JT may eventually get a working RIL for AOSP/CM9 use, and that would be great... But, having said that, it still won't be an RIL optimized for the Charge to the same extent that a RIL built with absolute knowledge of Samsung source code would be (please, correct me if I'm wrong here).
I think it would be absolutely absurd for the Aviator to be US Cellular's "flagship" device (which it will be) if Samsung isn't planning to build an official version of ICS (complete with TouchWiz and their GB-esque ICS interface). If the RIL is built for CDMA/LTE, then it's possible that devs may be able to port the Aviator's stock ROM over to the Charge on Verizon and modify that base into an InfinityROM, Eclipse, or TweakAviator ROM. Not 100% sure this will work with Samsung, but I've seen it before with HTC devices--with the Eris, a lot of the ROMs were ported CDMA Hero ROMs. This would provide kernels, ROM bases, and modems all specifically designed to work in unison. In my opinion, this will result in extremely stable ICS ROMs (as compared to a reverse-engineered RIL for AOSP/CM9). No?
reps dont know anything about anything. we're never getting ICS unless IMnuts, Nitro, JT or one of the other developers give us a hack. Ill prob switch over the GS3 well before that happens (not cuz of the developers, cuz of samsung and verizon, the developers all kick ass!)

If ICS is released with the aviator, it may be possible seeing as their the same device. But that is a big if. Samsung should just release the RIL source. We already know they suck at coding. Why hide it?

Why go Samsung? By the time SG3 comes out, Samsung's not gonna update it to Jellybean and your gonna say "ill get the SG4"...Better off getting an HTC phone with a Samsung Screen..HTC good about releasing source and has good development. Although Samsung has thinner devices.

One can argue, if their code is suck, why you want it then? or if you want to ask some one for something and you called them suck, do you deserve to have it?

Honestly, I've had three moto phones and while not having full access to flashing kernels and not having a real recovery sucks, their hardware is insane.
