So i need some help deciding what ROM should i flash.
I have 2 options.
Virtous Inquistion and Quattro.
As i dont use bluetooth and camcorder so often i would go for the quattro but maybe i need them finding myself in a desperate situation. I would like to ask you if the Senseless rom ( Inquistion) is decent in terms of speed or maybe the same as quattro.
I've been using Virtuous Inquisition for a couple of weeks now and am loving it. I haven't used the bluetooth on it yet, but the camera and camcorder have been working really well for me. My wifi tethering doesn't seem to be working either, but they just updated the ROM, so it might be working now.
Quadrant Standard with this ROM for me is 2224
I'm still getting amazed at how fast the phone works.
Its so much nicer to be using ICS without sense.
Super smooth.
Inquisition v3.0 is pretty smooth and most everything works including BT and Camera; still will get occasional freezes and reboots.
Quattro Alpha3 has a noticeably quicker overall feel given that it is ASOP, but BT and Camcorder still do not work. Here you will also get occasional freezes and reboots.
I have Nandroids of both. Inquisition is a little farther along, but both still have kinks to work out - don't expect the polish of Gingerbread.
I've been running the inquisition version 2.1 for 4 days, everything works perfectly - had no freezes or reboots. Battery life is doubled compared to stock but make sure you follow the instructions to the letter.
On my HD2 I preferred aosp builds but I think the sensation has a while to go yet - reverse engineering drivers is very hard work.

Agreed. Ive been running virtuous since its release. It is the closest thing we have to full aosp on the sensation and it has grown to be a great rom since its release. Its just about 98% stable with very minor bugs if any. Quattro has more features and is full aosp but super buggy as it is still in alpha stage. I experienced 3 reboots and browser fc's in the first 30 mins of use. When it matures I'm sure it will be great though. I loved the lock screen shortcuts and quick settings notifications but as it isn't stable I moved back to the ever so solid Virtuous 3.0, with new firmware of course

blackICE 4.3 best ICS ROM
i have flashed most of the ICS ROMs in xda insertcoin revolution leedroid elegancia etc.....
all of the above are excellent ROMs and thanks for all the developer out there.
i must say i tried the blackICE4.3 rom from bigpercaso it is in my opinion the most beautiful ROM out there well themed and you can see that hard work made on this rom performance are good and battery life as well .......

well done big
I've used ARHD 6.0.2 and Virtuous Inquisition 3.0.0.
ARHD had FC bugs that might or might not be still there in 6.1.1, and performance is decent - not great. Battery life is good.
Virtuous Inquisition is pretty amazing. Great performance, snappy, good battery life, and only one or two random FCs so far. The only problem I have on Virtuous Inquisition is that when I try to send a message, I can't get contact suggestions when I type in a name - unless when I type in a number, then I would get contact suggestions.
Anybody else have a problem with this?

hi, what are some issues you have had with insertcoin so far?
I've also been using Virtuous Inquisition and its relatively battery efficient when compared to ARHD ics. So far only 1 reboot and no lockups.

Being a fan of the Virtuous sense builds, I didn't hesitate to try VI since it's release. With a few minor bugs, the 3.0 with the latest firmware(I'm using 3.24 revolutionary) and the thing just flies. Amazing on how my phone is now compared to sense. I liked sense, but man the phone is super smooth without me having to flash kernels and such to do so. That's a testament to the Virtuous team IMO.
Bt and A2DP is important to me, so I am holding off of Quattro for now. In using VI 3.0, I have to preface that a few users, including me had some random reboots upon flashing for the first 12-24 hours. In my case my homescreens needed to be redone where the widgets would either disappear or be in the wrong place. However, after the ROM settled, the rom is IMO a great rom to try for ICS.
I am running ARHD 6.1.1 with sense 3.6 from Here Then last night I came across This the 1.7 undervolt- I don't know how the battery will be, but I do know that it is running super smooth. I have fallen in love with my phone all over again...
android revolution!
Dont know if I am late to the party
Dont know if I am late to the party....wether or not you've decided yet...But I'm going to chime in with my opinion.
Tried ARHD both ICS and non ICS ......and found that ARHD was better running GB in general quite stable and quite fast...I wasnt satisfied with the battery life I was getting...but generally a pretty solid ROM
But for running ICS I thing hands down it has to be senseless and for that I did not find anything better than Virtuous Inquisition...Im super happy with my phone and have had no glitches or weird FC's...and have great battery life....
hope this helps.
I've been flicking between ROMs recently to try and find the best one. For me it has to be Senseless - Sense is pretty but it's an absolute drain on battery, CPU, and RAM, regardless of which ROM base. For me, it's the Virtuous offerings through Inquisition and Quattro.
I'm running Quattro at the moment because it's as close as you can get to AOSP. It's coming along nicely but it's also got quite a few kinks that need to be ironed out. And I haven't been on Inquisition since 2.0, and the lock screen bug was a bit annoying. But might give it another try tonight, given that Quattro is giving my battery a good kicking. Come back once there's evidence that the battery problems have been addressed and the random FCs fixed.
I want to try out one of the ICS ROMs in MyTouch4G slide. If anyone tried the ICS ROMs, which one would you recommend for stable daily use?
I am very new to rooting and using/installing ROMs. All I can do is to read and follow instructions…other than that I mostly do not know what that I am doing with my phone. So please bear with me if my question turnout to be a dumb one.
The main motivation for checking out ICS is that I want to see bengali language complex scripts on the phone with UTF-8 and I heard that ICS natively supports it. I understand that I can tryout everything and decide for myself. But considering my lack of knowledge on this matter, I would love to try out one that users mostly recommend.
Here is some brief history of what I have done with my phone so far:
I have gained S-off and rooted my phone using the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286324
After sticking with the stock ROM for few months, I upgrade from Clockworkmod 4.0.0.9 to the Clockworkmod 5.0.2.7 and the installed Bulletproof 1.1 ROM using the following thread:

Well I've been using Pyr'o'Ice Desensed 1.1.3 and I can absolutely recommend that one. I may just be lucky, but I haven't had a single crash yet. As far as I know, everything works perfectly except for the GPS crapping out one time. It's legitimately fantastic and speeds the phone up drastically. Not to mention how great chrome is for the phone. So...yeah. It's the only one I've tried, but it is by all accounts stable.
I've been using wildshilds aokp port. Its stable

Yes it's the most stable PLUS a touch screen fix
Typed by ---- oh wait! I'm schizophrenic!
I've been running Pyr'O'Ice 1.1.1 Sense 3.6 since last Thursday and I must say that it seems to be solid as a rock too and is not bad at ALL on battery life considering that fact. (Sense ROM) It gets a good, solid 3G connection and is fairly snappy too. So far, the only bug I've found in my limited use is that if you try to unlock the lockscreen while holding your phone landscape it will deactivate the lock mechanism. (You'll have to put it back to sleep & hold it portrait to unlock it upon wakeup). All in all a REALLY nice ICS ROM, IMHO!
I'm very happy with Pyroice Desensed. ICS on the Doubleshot is wonderful and tbalden has done some amazing work.
That being said, I have three main issues with the ROM. None of them are blockers for me, but I'll describe them in more detail in case they are problems for you:
1. EGL_NOT_INITIALIZED crashes when launching apps. These have gone down a lot with the latest GPU drivers, but I still get them reasonably frequently. Flicking away a few apps (especially GPU intense ones like Chrome) tends to sort them out, though.
2. Face Unlock crashes instead of falling back to the secondary lock. I have a bizarre dance I do to get past this without rebooting which is why it isn't a bigger problem. I suspect (but can't prove) this is another EGL crash since I usually find many and/or GPU-intensive apps in my recent apps list after I successfully unlock, but I haven't dug into this further.
3. Bluetooth support can be wonky and bit unstable. With 1.1.3, I don't think I've successfully answered a call with my headset with music playing (I believe, but I'm not sure that I did this successfully with older versions). I've also had a few reboots that looked Bluetooth-related. I'd consider this a bigger issue, but I'm used to buggy Bluetooth implementations (see: G2). Other than that, though, music, calls and tethering (to my tablet) all work, so it is generally "good enough".
Pyr'O'Ice 1.1.3. It's stable as a daily driver.

If you like HTC Sense Primadonna by Team Virtuous is a great option. I wasn't able to run some apps that I love and need while on Pyro Ice. I've been able to run them on Primadonna.

Last night I flashed Virtuous Inquisition. I'm loving it! The camera software is different (not better). I was able to take quick pics with the stock camera software with this one I have to wait in between pics. It remaps some buttons. The genius button becomes a search button. Very smooth ROM. Very easy install.

Just tested out the camera. Hit the camera button on the screen to take the next shot immediately. Also, most of us had that "Genius" button remapped since full root was first gained.

I have decided to try Virtuous Inquisition to get a taste of ICS.
Let us know how it goes for you. I want to try ICS but I need to have like everything working. MMS, wifi, and 4G for work; camera for when my wife doesn't have her phone; and everything else just so I don't get made fun of at work for running a cooked ROM and every ROM I read about before always had something wrong with it. Granted, it's been a while since I've looked.
Which one do you think is better? Im ready to flash my first rom on my sensation xe
Try both to see which one suits you more.
Virtuous Inquisition is more to the AOSP side, And it's stable as stable can get.
CM9 Is more on the AOKP side, Full of customizations but there are a few minor bugs.
They're both good. If you really love customizing your phone, I suggest you go for CM9, But you can't really say no to the smoothness of Virtuous Inquisition.
Ok thanks for your reply, trying CM9 first now
go for Virtuous Inquisition or HyperNonsense. CM9 still has a lot of minor bugs that need to be worked out. i have a feeling by the time CM9 is 100% complete, i'd probably upgrade to a new phone by then.
sent from the Penh.
Virtuous is more stable than any other ROM I've ever tried, looks great and it's fast too. Gets my vote. The only thing it's missing in my opinion is CRT animations.
Simply if you can handle some things not working 100 percent correctly, use Open Sensation as it is faster. If EVERYTHING must work, use VI 4.02.
Both are great roms.

This is wrong. VI is no where near AOSP. It just simulates the look. CM9 and AOKP are built on AOSP.

I like virtuous but I might try cm9 also. I've had No problems with virtuous at all what so ever
Best for u 2 try them both for a better self examination...happy flashing!
I think CM is the solution for longer term support, but I rely on my phone for work and I need stability so I've been on Inquisition. Opensensation is on rolling updates so if a particular image gives you problems, don't get discouraged--try another one from a different date.
I am with OpenSensation now and it's getting better all the time. VI is OK but to me it's like trying to eat soy beef.

This. Subtle little hints of Sense left and right. Granted it's patched now, but for example the dual usb dialogs. The sound when adjusting the volume. Etc. My hatred towards Sense drove me FAR away from these ROMs despite using VI for more than 90% of my daily use. Forcing myself to AOKP now.
Actually is smoother than VI in my case. I'd have all sorts of funky errors usually triggered by browsers (yes, plural, Chrome Mobile, Stock, and beyond) having to do .. something. More or less the ROM would bog itself down to getting about 1 screen refresh every 20 seconds.
AOKP hasn't done that to me. Yet.
Ironically, I'm prepping to flash the stock TMOUS leak to see if it's any better. Doubtful, really.
+1 for CM9, Virtuous run a litter slow for me

I'm on VI and that has never happened to me once. I don't get any crashes or slowdown at all, so I'm not sure what's caused it for you. Did you add any mods to it which could have caused it? Oh, and the sense USB connection screen is gone, that was removed a couple of ROM builds ago.

Ok guys, I am looking for an ICS ROM since I love ICS and to be up to date with Android stuff. So I had a look at which ROMs are there and found these:
(Ordered in last activity of its thread in the development section)
1. |-ROM-|-4.0.4-|-AOKP-B39-|-CM9-|-6/15/12-|-WildchildIcE-v0.9b-|-Nightlies-|
2. [ROM]HTC Doubleshot ICS 4.03(Sensation XE Sense 3.6)app2ext 5-5-2012

6. [ROM][Mar 7 2012] Pyr-o-Ice Sense 1.1.1 (Android 4.0.3 ICS, Sense 3.6, 1.5GHz OC)
7. - ?. Are there others that are not on XDA?
Let's collect basic information at first and see which ones are in development.
I will come back soon. Also I will keep this post (original/ first post) up to date with stuff you guys post here.
And I have a question. I don't understand why there are so many different ROMs. Do developers just like to have their own and see what they can achieve? Or do they have differing interests? Sense will of course be one, I guess it can't be just added on top of a working ICS ROM? Wouldn't it be more fun, rewarding and forward thinking for them to all work together?
Thanks for every feedback.
Most ICS Roms are by one Dev. Tbalden, he just made Roms to do it. All the bugs are outlined in the "Not Working" section. All ROMs based off 2.6 Kernel have simular issues (Wifi Tether, 1080p not working) All Sense 3.6 Roms have the same issues, with minor UI bugs that won't be fixed. Why? Nobodys using them. Most AOSP/CM9/AOKP bugs kernel wise are the same. Then UI wise varys from ROM to ROM. I can tell your new to here, I don't feel this thread should be here Xo All the bugs are outlined. As you can see CM9/AOKP are the most used. On Rootzwiki there's two ICS Roms by Tbalden. Virtuious Inc, and Virtuious Prim. Virt Inc with the 3.0 kernel seems to be the most "stable" out of all ICS Roms as of now.

You do make some excellant points! Bear in mind I'm no coder/deveolper but I'd be happy to give up my take on what I've gathered about the subject since I've been frequenting this site.
The Development threads are a bit more 'formal'....and rightly so. It keeps the discussion from spiraling into something it wasn't originally started for by the OP. But all the other forums & their threads are much more liberal as you'll see.
Now then your questions.....
1. WildChildIcE is THE ICS ROM you're going to want to keep your eye on IMHO. This one is an AOKP ROM which seems to give you the usefullness & freedoms of Sense without the bloat & huge size. From what I've been able to tell it merges most if not alll of the great features of ICS into one ROM where not all do. VERY customizable, many themes available, smooth, quick, OC/UC available, good battery life, etc. A very usable Beta ROM.
2. A Sense ROM I've not tried yet but being 3.6 it should be smoother & quicker than the GB Senses that you may have experienced. At least, they seem that way to me. Although the developer hasn't returned he has labeled it as relatively 'bug-free' but the things not working are sometimes deal breakers for folks. The wide format camcorder CAN be worked around but wifi tethering to my tablet is pretty important to me. There's been no updates & relatively few user comments although it's using Tbalden's 1.5 OC kernal and it's a GOOD one supporting Sense 3.6.
3. CM9 is another I haven't used yet, per se. Except for the fact that XMC's ROM has been temporarily merged with it for stability purposes and to bypass a couple of stubborn bugs. It's my understanding that it will return to pure AOKP by full release which will bring back the feature 'ROM Control'. You've not seen that in GB or Froyo and you will LIKE it! I've been using the latest nightly simply because the phone proximity sensor is working.
4. This being an UNofficial CM9 KANG, it will most likely have the same features and shortcomings the official CM9 does along with a few new features the developer saw as something he and other users might like. (This is basically where all the different flavors of ICS....GB....& Froyo come from). PLUS, when finished, CyanogenMod is a ROM that others most always aspire to be as thoroughly debugged as.
5. This is a ROM by an amazing developer...Tbalden. This ROM was 'orphaned' here when Tbalden joined The Virtuous Team and transformed there (www.virtuousrom.com) into (what I consider) one of the best most stable ICS ROMs out there called Virtuious Inquisition. As a matter of fact when I flashed it to my wife's phone she told me "ALRIGHT....this is the ONE! Now STOP CHANGING MY PHONE"! LOL It is a complete fantastic ICS with a battery life outta this world. TRY it.....you'll LIKE it!
6. ANOTHER fantastic ROM by Tbalden. Need I say more? The only thing I can remember being not being near perfect is the dialer being slightly shifted to the right but still completely usable. Futureal/Virtual Inquisition was the one he was inspired to compose while he was working on this one. Like I said before.....need I say MORE?
7. There are several other you might want to try that are now longer actively linked here. Over at Rootzwiki, check out a developer called Undeadk9. He did some GREAT things for our phone with some creations that lots of folks still use regularly. Myself included.
TRY some of these and I believe you'll be able to answer your general question at the bottom of you post all by yourself. The answer will be evident to you.
Good Luck....and Welcome to XDA!
Thanks guys!
AgentCherryCola: I'm not new to the XDA Forums and I also had some looks around the ROM threads of the MT4GS forum. I know they all have lists for their bugs and I appreciate that very much. However, I still think it is useful to have a thread who sums it up and compares the ROMs and their issues. Thanks for your summary!
WeekendsR2short: Happy to see someone likes my idea I appreciate your reviews very much. And yes I could just try every ROM and I think I will, at least some of them. But probably only for some minutes, because once I have all my data, apps and stuff set up right, which takes quite some time, I don't want to do it all over again. That's one reason I'm asking for experiences of ROMs and their advantages and disatvantages. But yeah maybe I am overcomplicating things... But it's still fun and useful for newcomers
BTW back then on my G1 it was pretty complicated... a lot of ROMs were pretty fast at the beginning and once you installed some apps and used the phone a bit it got really creepily slow... But I suppose I don't have to worry about that with a phone that is about 6 times as fast
There are some early ICS ROMs by undeadk9 over on rootzwiki, but he stopped developing for the Doubleshot. For a few months, he was the ONLY dev working on this phone.

As far as sense goes I think rooted stock or mik ROM is the only ones for that as for jb there is lots of ROMs out there I'm currently using official CyanogenMod preview 7 and I love it. Fast smooth stable but I would recommend you just try them all

sun_dream ported several ROMs, an ICS with Sense4 and Sense4.1a, as well as an ICS with Sense3.6. I never could get the Sense4 ROMs to work reliably on my phone, especially the headset audio (it is extremely picky about which earplugs it will accept). His ICS 4.0.3 ROM with Sense3.6, however, worked reasonably well for me, has great audio. There are two versions of it, one is based on Sensation 3.3.2, other is 3.3.3. I found the 3.3.2 to be the more stable and fluid with really good battery life. My only issue with it was sometimes data would drop off unexpectedly. It would come back usually on its own, but sometimes you'd have to toggle airplane mode to get it back. An annoyance. Also, there was a Gallery issue with it FC'ing. But, I solved that by ripping Gallery out of another Sense3.6 ROM and pushing it to my phone. You can read about that in the ROM's thread in the Dev forum.
But really, for overall stability and a ROM where everything works like it is supposed to work without having to jiggle and toggle and stand on your head or sacrifice chickens, Miktouch is the one I use every day. I do like the features of ICS and especially those of the new JB ROMs. But, this is my only phone and must work 100% 100% of the time.

Yes I must agree I use mik sense 3.0 cause its most reloable as of right now and everything works. Baytery lofe is not bad for sense also. Dont get me wrong I love cm roms bit need more stability also I hope cm based roms fix the video out.
EDIT: can someone post me links to some customizations for mik 3.0 would be greatly appreciated.

No one can answer this question correctly except you. Try the various ROMs available to you and decide which one is best for you.
