This application is to know your friends location, or allow your friends to access your location (secured using a access password). So when you have this app in your phone, u need not make phone calls to inform others where you are, your friend can request your location, or you can send your location, manually/automatically using SMS. So only one side needs internet connection, the other phone need be an android too. give it a try and rate it !
Now you can send your location to all the people who may want to know! Whereabouts detects your location using your phone’s built-in GPS and sends an SMS to any number of your choice, at time intervals of your choice. Are you the worried Mom who wants to know where her daughter is? Are you the guy who wants to let his love-struck girlfriend know where he is? Or are you just a starving customer wondering where his pepperoni pizza is? Worry not, for we have the perfect solution for you. Whereabouts. Because we know you care.
CASES where this app might be useful
REQUESTING ADDRESS WHENEVER U WANT
=>A parent sets the child's phone with this application and set a password . Parent can send the password of the child's wherebaouts as SMS and instantly get the location of the child as a reply SMS without her/his knowledge.
=>Wanna know if your bf/gf is cheating you by telling you a wrong location when u ask him/her where he/she is? You can always cross check with this application. All you need is his/her whereabouts password. And you need not even make a call to ask him/her where he/she is. Just send his/her password as a SMS, u will get his/her location as a reply without bothering him/her.
AUTO SEND IN A TIME INTERVAL
Can be used according to the user's interest.
-> when you are driving to your friends house, keep him/her updated that you are nearing his/her house by sending your location details through SMS at a given interval of time. (eg) if i select my my friend from contacts, and start auto send mode with 5 mins as interval, it will send my location to my friend for every 5 minutes as a SMS. So that he wont call me and disturb me(while driving) about how long i will take to reach him.
The APK file is attatched. Enjoy !
Hi, I would like to test this app but I cannot instal... Download is fine, but button "instal" is greyed...

Just an idea for all of those with a "fav 5" or "friends and fmaily" type of feature on your plan.
I would recommend adding Google 411 (free directory assistance) to one of your number slots. the number is: 1-800-466-4411
I know that you cannot use this to call friends, but even if you know a business number, call it through Google's 411 service and since they connect the calls it will not use any of your minutes. You can also say "text me" before it connects you and it will send you a txt message with the name, number and address.
Anyway, just an idea. I added it to our new plan we just switched to and now calling Google 411 is considered an in-network calling so it doesn't use any minutes

Sorry, USA.
I am on Verizon, and I added Google 411 to my list. They go into a "pending" phase for 24 hours before they become active, but it is active now! Can call anyone free pretty much via Google. Will be awesome, hehe.

Actually, there was an article published a few years ago in 2600: The Hacker Quarterly (Autumn 2007, Issue 24:3, page 32) that explained how easy it was to add businesses to Google 411, and then how to add your friends and family as businesses in order to call them for free. And I'm not sure you need to even put it into your Fave-Five or other like plans, since it's an 800 number, so it should be toll free.
You just add your friends' and family members' numbers as really obscure named businesses with obscure purposes, like archery if there are no archery businesses around you (so that way you are guaranteed to have your "business" show up.
According to the article, the only thing you need to do to register a business is to have a Gmail/Google account, to be able to answer the phone whose number you gave Google 411, and a special PIN number they gave you when you completed part 1 of the registration process (signing up the number and inputting business information).
Then, you wait a while for Google to update their database, and then just call 1-800-GOOG-411 and look up the name of the imaginary obscure business you input, and make free calls to your friends/family. Although it's kind of impractical, for lengthy long distance calls, I guess it could seriously come in handy.
Although I don't know of any reason this wouldn't work now, this article is a few years old, so Google may have changed the process entirely by now, SO THIS ARTICLE MAY NOT BE ACCURATE ANYMORE! And if I missed anything in this post, please feel free to correct me.
@Mods, I don't think this post violates any forum rules, but if it does, PM me and I will be happy to take it down. Thanks,
Dave
I know I'm not the only one that wants this...
Being an admin my box is constantly filled with stuff that I really don't want to wake me at 3am. However, when an outage or other high priority alert comes through, it would be AWESOME if I could alert on only those messages, or have a different alert for them.
Any chance that anyone is working on an app that would let the user specify an alert based on an email rule or filter? This is one I'd pay for gladly.

You need to specify which mail client you're using.. If you're using K9, you can most likely use Tasker to do this. http://www.dinglisch.net/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?catselect=29
For me, I have it notify me with a second, remarkable notification immediately after the standard one for new email for special emails I want to read immediately. You could get fancy and have it only notify once with a unique sound if necessary.
As an admin, what are you using for business email? If it's Exchange/Outlook or Google Apps/Outlook you can simply set this up a series of rules in Outlook and have only relevant/whitelisted emails pushed to your mobile device. It's probably possible with Gmail as well, but I haven't tried it.
Good luck!
We're on Exchange. Your solution has merit, however I still want access to all emails on my device. I'd just like to be able to configure which ones alert via some very simple rules/filters.
I know that Froyo is supposed to have better exchange support. I can only hope that if it supports folders, perhaps I can set alerts for certain folders. Then I could set some server side rules to auto-sort as they come in.
We'll see...
Dear XDA users!
Lots of Russian Android users are very disappointed with the fact that Android OS takes a lot of traffic (that causes extra fees and personal data insecurity). Many people decided not to buy Android-based devices because of that. So, we decided to post an issue to Google, Inc. and OHA and asked about the abitily to let or not let the apps use Internet - such points as "Allow", "Allow once", "Deny" or something like that. The issue URL is http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=10481
If you also want this feature to be developed, just star the issue (click the star near the header). If you want to say something, you may post a comment (try not to post comments like "Agree", "+1", etc.). Be ready to receive other people's comments to your e-mail. To stop receiving, go to https://code.google.com/hosting/settings and uncheck "If I starred the issue".

i recently discovered someone has been having access to my text messages on their desktop. they know who i chatted with and what was discussed. i am on the sprint network. does anyone know how this is possible? is there something i should look for on my phone that would show a program running on it? would a hard reset resolve this issue?
Does your phone sync with Microsoft MyPhone?
The only ways I know of that would make this possible are that your phone is syncing with activesync on their computer,or its syncing with an exchange server that they have access to.
hi there are a few apps that "forward SMS's" depends on which phone you have... windows mobile have them called "sms spy" or something close to that plus "sms forwarder"... good luck android have a few too cant think of any off the top of my head. lil research goes along way -ttyl
All your text messages go through Sprint. If your buddy has an unethical connection at Sprint then he could get access that way. Contact Sprint and let them know; if being run through an employee then you might be able to get someone fired.
Ick
I would try reflashing a stock rom (in case there is malware)
Change your MyPhone password for before resyching (in case they're seeing texts there)
Avoid using WiFi in any are he is locating. (in case something is being caught in network traffic)
Run without extra apps (to rule out a rogue app)
See if you can text without him noticing.
Good luck
I highly doubt they are accessing your messages through sprint.
Reflash a nice new ROM from this site, eliminating the installed 'spy program'.
Change passwords to everything.
Wifi should be fine to use, regardless, if it is SMS it doesn't enter the wifi network, and as far as I know winmo doesn't use NetBios.
Only install apps from this site, trusted websites and the marketplace. Nothing he/she can change or edit or made.
You will be fine after this.
2 easy ways i know of....
1. if you sync to a server like say your work or personal email account, unless you SPECIFICALLY SET IT NOT TO it sync's EVERYTHING! calls, text msgs, contact list EVERYTHING!
2. if i were to get ahold of your esn and mdn/msid and cloned a phone to your account i would get txt sent to you as well
there is other ways but that is the easiest 2 ways, hope that help bro
cheers,
disco
I would be choking some peole out
Yea... first thing's first whoever is snooping on your ish... fire them, cut that nosy bastard out of your life, you're better off without them. If you're a kid and it's your parents, then none of this applies. Everyone's advice before hand, take it and change any other passwords to anything else they could have even .00001% chance of accessing.
I don't know the exact names but there are services available for insecure scumbags who'se lives are so sad they have to go snooping around like that. If you can gather proof of an information breach you can then press charges on them. Read a story a few weeks ago about someone who "broke" into his wife's gf's email and found out she was fkn around on him, he's now facing years in the slammer for it.
Even creepier than that is the echelon system... look it up

I used it once to initiate a conference call. It worked for setting up the call but the sound quality was pretty terrible. All of the participants on my call were within the United States, so I don't know how it works internationally.

well ,I have used this app a couple of times recently. For a free calling app Its pretty good only if u wanna compromisehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/frown.gif with the sound quality and limitation of 1 hour. I mainly use it to call overseas frnds which is quite costly if ur using a standard cellular device. http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/mad.gif The main advantage I enjoyed is that U dont need any other client software for the clients ,http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/good.gif .Just cell number is enough. Regarding the info they collect , I am not sure about that. Haven't faced any issues regarding that.
still ,good enough app if u ask me! http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/cowboy.gif
