[Q] What high-end phone should I get? - General Questions and Answers

Hello everyone!
My contract with my provider is almost at an ending and I am finally done with my Galaxy S. (Which'll stay my best friend. We've gone through a lot!) I have a couple of options to choose from, but I have no idea what to choose between these phones. I will list them under this paragraph. Anyhow, I want to have a phone that has some pretty good battery life. Possibly better than Galaxy S. Also, it needs to be easily rootable and flashable. I've come across these phones, I would like some opinions and user experience of these phones. I know the Motorola Droid Razrr Maxx is the perfect option, but unfortunately not available in my country.
HTC Sensation XE
HTC Sensation XL
Samsung Galaxy Note
Samsung Galaxy S II
Samsung Galaxy Nexus
Sony Ericsson Experia Arc
Note: Phones in bold is what I am leaning towards to at the moment.
Thanks in advance for helping me . I will use the Thanks button!

Why don't you get the SG2 and exchange for a Razr Maxx with somebody here at XDA?

Not sure about this but doesnt the galaxy nexus have the same specs as GS2?
if so get the galaxy nexus instead of gs2 simply because of the screen ( 720P

The galaxy nexus is easily rootable and customisable, but will it is kind of expensive atm and I surely will need to pay extra with the contract.
How is the htc sensation XL? It looks good and has beats headphones. Single core is kinda lame though...

But the the s2 has superior hardware.

Sense is okay I guess, does eat battery though. And it has a Single Core 1.5 Ghz Processor. Which it was Dual Core. I would've bought it then :/.

sgs2 period.

HTC Sensation XL is such a nice phone. My next hopefully. Take this one

Galaxy Nexus
WAY nicer screen than the S2 with same other hardware. Better looking. Official google phone so will be easier to port roms to. ICS already.
I think some of these people who are saying Galazy S2 are getting Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S confused.

Galaxy Nexus is awesome. I might go with that or Sensation XL. Note as a close second. Perhaps I should wait for Samsung Galaxy S 3?

Wait, wait just a little... Quadcores gonna come out
http://forums.infectedrom.com/showthread.php/1077-2012-HTC-first-QuadCore-phone-!!!

I'm a little biased, buy my vote goes for the galaxy note. Best phone I've ever owned. I feel like my hd2 is spinning in its grave when. I say that, but it's true.

I always liked the note. The bigger the better. I am looking at contracts right now. Sensation XL is the cheapest.

[Q] Which phone should I buy guys?

Guys I am planning to buy a new phone. I want your suggestions about choosing the right one. I am relying on good battery life and phone which has a good amount of development going on (custom roms, kernels, miui, cyanogenmod, ics etc.) coz I love to fiddle with devices a lot. My current choices are :
Samsung galaxy R
Samsung galaxy S plus
HTC Desire S
HTC Incredible S
These are my options but senior members can suggest me phone in range of 23000 INR ($475).
Thanks in advance guys

Isn't Galaxy Nexus coming to India soon? It definitely has those things (though battery life preferred with custom kernel) and is probably of choice (until the new quadcores come out in a few months anyway) for tinkering. But I'm not sure you can get it for $475, unless they offer it more cheaply there. I got mine for $550ish, and that's considered cheap here.

Yup. But $550 is costly for me. Already pushing my limits for my said price range

Umm.. If you look for design and Sense UI, go for HTC. But if you want a performance device then I would suggest Samsung R or S Plus.
Thought for 23k you can even get Optimus 2x or Optimus 3D.
But if your just gonna stick with Samsung and HTC. I would suggest Samsung for the performance. No wonder HTC's Sense UI is far better than any other device out there but its just your decision whether wanna go with Design and Looks or Performance and Built Quality!

2 years ago, I prefer 3.7" phones to 4.3" phones. But now, 3.7" and 4.3" seem too small for me. Just try it first and you'll like it and even want a bigger one. Anyway, the 4.8" screen was rumoured to have a 16:9 aspect ratio.

I see. For that price, you might consider the HTC Sensation. I think the HTC Rezound occasionally gets that low (say with special promotions), but I can't find any at this moment.
I'm not familiar with any of the "cheaper" manufacturers (Huawei or the like) but it might be something to look into.
If your not in a hurry to get a phone. I would suggest you too wait for like till April or May. There are like 20+ phones getting launched by then.
HTC's One series are gonna be available globally by April. Even LG, Samsung, Sony has launched some new phones and they all comes with ICS 4.
So you may wait for sometime and I bet its worth waiting for.

That's actually a good point. Old phones usually take a price dip when their successor comes out. The HTC Rezound is sure to take one when the One X comes out, for instance, similarly for the Samsung Galaxy S2 when the S3 comes out.
So if you can wait, I'm going to speculate that those phones might dip down into your (OP's) price range. (But you should allow for a margin of error ).
If I were you, I would check the forum on what phone has the most development ... That way, you can have a lot of Rom choices hehehe

I've got my HTC desire for ~two years and never had any problems. + there are a lot of roms for the device.

To be honest, most people will just tell you to get the phone they have. Go to a phone shop and spend a bit of time playing with each of the devices you're interested in. That's the best way to figure out which is best for you.

Wait a few months for the new phones. Failing that, as Archer suggests, get the phone I have
Well ask yourself the questions what is it that you want out of the phone...are you looking for the biggest screen size (Gnex)...are you okay with no sd slot (not Gnex)...etc
use gsm arenas to compare the features...I actually think forum opinions are not the way to find out...too subjective

I would agree with the above post HTC One X is the best phone to look forward for
Given the time of year, I'd have to agree and say your best bet at the moment is to wait. Not that waiting is much fun! I'm on a Desire HD at the moment, and my contract runs out this month, so I'm in a similar position.
The HTC One X was certainly one of the most exciting phones at the recent MWC. However, Samsung are rumored to be releasing the S3 soon, and given the quality of BOTH the S2 and the Nexus, a lot of people are excited about the S3.
I'm hoping to hold off for a couple of months. Otherwise I'll subimt and get a One X!

[SUGGEST] Buying my first Android!

Hello everybody,
I will buying my first android very soon and my budget is of INR 25,000 = 451.811 USD = 358.611 EUR
The prices are to be considered for unlocked devices.
Requirements:-
I would prefer ICS on it. It won't matter wether it comes preloaded or an update would be available afterwards.
It should have a front facing camera as now it is a requirement for me.
If possible suggest dual core smartphones.
The back camera should be minimum of 5 Mega-pixel with flash.
I would also prefer such phones which have developer community support.
It is preferable to have phones of Sony, HTC or Samsung as I don't trust other companies much.
My List:-
Sony Xperia P
I have heard it is a good phone but it's battery life may be shorter & I have also heard that due to the new white pixel techonlogy of Sony battery life is not a big problem as it consumes less power.
HTC Sensation
It is great phone but it was released last year and I have heard so may issues relating to it such as Death grip, unresponsive touch screen, poor battery life, improper viewing angles.
Suggestions are welcome but please see to it that it meets my list of requirements.

Sorry mate.
Post updated. Actually I use currency converter plugin that caused the problem while posting.
If that's the Indian rupee, $448 can get you a SGS3 if only it were available in India.. there's always buying it somewhere online and having it shipped to your country as an option.
If not, there's the Galaxy Nexus that I would recommend second.
I'd never recommend an HTC, due to in part that sense is nonsense. What's the point of going to a dev community with a sense phone if the #1 motif will be REMOVING Sense? Lol. I'd avoid HTC altogether. The beats by dre sound is a joke, just overpowered bass. Get Samsung, then combine it with voodoo sound.
Don't make the mistake of getting an SGSII though.

[Resolved] Which phone should I get? Note, Nexus, One X?

[Thread Resolved]
In the end, I went with the Nexus as it has much better software, development and update speed...
Sorry about making another thread on this.
But, I'm looking for a 24 month contract under £15 a month with little upfront fee, up to £100. I was on Pay as You Go before. I just wanted to know what is the best at that price? At the moment, I'm looking at the HTC One X, Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy Note. Which one would you recommend? Or should I get something else? The phone needs to last for 2 years. Thanks for the help.

I don't think note will get jelly bean or next version of android. Also I find Nexus to have more developer support. Also Gnex has pure Android which looks beautiful

The real question is getting the latest update important to you. If it is go with a nexus, if not go with the phone that suites your needs now. Just don't expect your phone to be updated to the latest software when going with a skinned phone.

If development and long term support is your biggest option.
100% no doubt, go with the Nexus.
The Note is a close second because it has decent development but updates are a bit slower.
I'd leave the Sensation in the dust.

I would have to say "not the Sensation XL". I had a Sensation and it's a heavy pocket mirror. And there aren't too many roms available for them. In the end I'll have to recommend buying a phone because you like the design, not because of the specs. You're not going to enjoy a phone that has a slightly faster CPU if you don't like how it looks.
I've pretty much eliminated the Sensation.
But which CPU and GPU is better? The one in the Note or the Nexus? I would prefer better development but it's not a big issue. I wouldn't be installing ROMs until the phone gets old. Hardware-wise which is the better phone? And will both last the next two years? I know the Nexus will, but will the Note? Thanks for all the help.

Specs are better in note for sure. But even though note has better spec, I find Nexus to be smoother with the jelly bean update.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I also second the suggestion to get a Nexus. It gives you the best Android Experience (fast updates from Google, huge developer community) .
The HTC HD2 is still very expensive because it is very popular among developers I guess this might be the case with the Nexus too. So if you want to sell it in the future it won't be completely worthless by that time. Just my thoughts.
If you want an Android phone go directly with Galaxy Nexus, but if you have much money you can buy an iPhone 4s
I think galaxy nexus or galaxy S3
I was going for the Nexus but then I saw this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1510755. What do you guys think about this?

Can't find a SG3 in the budget I have. Otherwise, it looks like a good phone.

Is samsung device good to buy

I am in confusion because I want to buy a new phone and I have three choices galaxy S4, htc one and xperia z...
I know their specifications on the paper..but never used...
Gs4 looks best on paper...but it is running on exynos processor and exynos is not open source..and not devloper friendly and I have heard that samsung doesnt has build quality... I have seen that many people broke their s2 and s3 from falling..and what about heating effects..
But although It has great features...
And xperia z and htc one has good build quality and they have Qualcomms chip inside them..
SO WHICH ONE SHOULD I PREFER TO BUY??
Sent from my MT11i using xda premium
Galaxy S4 is so amazing.. my choice is S4
So tell me what is good in s4
Sent from my MT11i using xda premium
The S3 has been my first Samsung device and I would definitely have no problems recommending Samsung to other people. As far as the S4 goes, my feelings are a little mixed. I very much like the specs on the phone, but I don't think I want to own another device which is subject to delayed updates (both manufacturer and carrier side). Having a Nexus 7, I think I'm going to stick with Nexus devices going forward.
Did ur device fall or something like that...
A lot of ppl were complaining that their device fall and screen has been broken
Sent from my MT11i using xda premium
What about custom roms I had heard that since exynos is closed source so its custom roms r buggy
Sent from my MT11i using xda premium
I wouldn't worry about the custom rom aspect of the S4. If there's a way to tweak it, the devs on this site will find a way, guaranteed. I Ann looking to upgrade as well. Super happy with my E4GT from Sammy, will most likely get the 4. Just my thoughts. Hope it helps you.

I don't think it's just Samsung devices. There're going to have more broken screens, since they have sold so many devices. It's just a number game. I'm sure you can say the same for Apple owners...
Xperia z has a moderate display and camera....... Htc one can't replace the real beast(s4)
