Hello New Here And Have A Question - General Questions and Answers

I have the HTC Evo 3D. I'm trying to raise the volume for my phone from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1147436
I have windows XP and I can not seem to figure out how to get the HTC Modem to show up in the modems section. I also can't figure out how to get QPST to find my phone. For some reason it opens offline. I have my msl code and everything needed. Please help I have been searching every where and everything. If I missed a thread please direct me to that thread please and I am sorry to bother you.

Hi there itsdope.
In order to get your PC to recognize the device, you will need to install the latest version HTC sync for the EVO 3D. This can be found at htc[dot]com[forwardslash]support. Choose your phone from the dropdown, go to downloads, and download the 1.30.2012 release for HTC SYNC. Then you will be able to use QPST as the correct drivers will be installed. Make sure you put your phone in diagnostic mode. Pull up the dial pad and type in ##DIAG# (##2313#). This is when you start QPST service programming.
Let me know if you have any more trouble

I had that phone for a little while before I traded it in and I was using an app to raise the volume, I think it's called Amp or something, did you try that or did you ever figure out your problem?

reply
I have tried using apps from the market place to increase the volume but none have a effect worth it. They don't really amplify the volume, to the reply about QPST I have installed the newest HTC Sync. I can find the com. But im QPST and the phone in diag mode before opening QPST it doesn't pick the phone up nor does it let me pick the option of turning it on. It gives me the drop down box and it has a lot of options I don't know where to find the com port through all the options to do the necessary procedures.

Please Help

This is my first post on these forums and I would like to start off by saying this is one of the best sites I have found and has already taught me so much. Ok so here is my problem. I recently realized that I can unlock my phone (I have a T-Mobile Dash) but I did not know how to go about doing it. So I looked and looked and read and read and decided to pay $39.00 and get an unlocker program from GSMliberty. I’m not sure if GSMliberty is a credible site but I still went thru them. I made the payment and followed the instructions on what to do. I connected my phone to my computer and once active sync was connected I ran the unlocker. Every time I tried this I received this error
I submitted a trouble ticket with the company and they sent me this reply:
"Make sure to run the unlock from home. Run active sync, then connect the phone while it's on in Windows mode with NO SIM or memory card. Rerun the unlock software. Only 1 active sync session must be running on system tray.
ALL firewalls, anti-virus software and pop-up blockers have to be off."
I have no clue how to fix this issue or what I am doing wrong and I am extremely frustrated with the whole dilemma but my question right now is what the heck windows mode is? I have never heard of windows mode before, I thought because I have a windows mobile phone that my device is always in windows mode lol. Anyways I am sorry for this long post but any help will make me feel better. Thank you in advance and once again sorry for this long thread.

I curious, what did you do to get it working? And, is is CID and SIM unlocked?
Yes it is SIM and CID Unlocked. I went thru IMEI-Check instead of GSM Liberty but I found out that if you get this error message while running the program all you have to do is unplug the USB cable from your device then stop the unlocker program, then re insert the USB cable back into the phone and right after that start the Unlocker program again. The program will pick up where it left off. I found this out after trying to get this to work for about a week. If any one decides to go with IMEI-check and they get an error message just do exactly what I explained and everything will work out!!!

Video Epic Froyo Flash-patch tether-functioning GPS

Here is what I did to get Froyo and Root. THANK all the other people like noonbl for all the work. I just collected it here to show my process. Hope the video helps a bit.

KRAISYDAVE
Sprint Samsung Epic 4g Android Eclair to Froyo Root with wireless
tether and GPS phone help howto.
Backup first!
My process is below. Read all the way through and follow at your
own risk. I had to reload many apps manually instead of from
my backups. It was recommended to keep things running smooth.
You will have to sign back in with all your accounts as this
process will be like getting a brand new phone. It took me a
couple of days to read all the posts and gather the needed
information with testing. Once gathered you are looking at only
a few minutes to get all this loaded and running.
Samsung Epic 4g > Rooted Eclair > back to stock >
Flashed to Froyo > one click root > wireless tether added
and fully functioning GPS w/video.
I used a Windows Vista 32 bit.
We will start assuming you have a stock phone.
Follow this process at your own risk. I used many forums
and websites to complete this process. I believe a video
of someone performing the steps can really help. I already
have my phone setup, so you will not see the actual loading,
but I will show each step. Please thank all the devs for their
hard work and the websites for hosting the forums. Many have
items forsale and take donations if you so feel inclinded. Again
this is the process that I took. If I made a mistake please
bare with me and I will try to fix it.
First step is to get your computer to recognize your Epic.
Follow the links below. You will need the Samsung drivers. This
has been a problem for many. Your type of operating system
matters such as windows (32 or 64 bit), mac, and linux. Make
sure your USB is plugged into a port on the motherboard. Not
being in the correct port has caused phones not to be recognized.
Again, this process I am showing was completed in Vista 32 bit.
Your process may differ.
Follow this link for the drivers for windows so that it can
recognize the phone. Ignore the Root link on the first post and
scroll to the drives links. We will get to the Root link later.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770388
Assuming you are running a stock Epic with Eclair (comes from the
store this way) you must go in and turn on a couple of things.
Go under applications and turn on Unknown Sources, then click on
development and turn on USB debugging and Stay awake.
Plug in the phone to the computer via USB in the motherboard.
Open the driver file and click on the application to install.
When it finishes you can go into the phone and in the pull down
menue select USB connected and then mount. This will allow the
computer to see the SD card in the phone as a drive thanks to
drivers you just installed.
Next step is to get the other needed software. You will need to
download a specific version of Odin and Froyo which I will
explain. Follow this link ...
http://briefmobile.com/how-to-update-sprint-epic-4g-to-android-2-2
Scroll down to the second set of instructions labeled Alternate
Instructions: Update Android 2.2 Froyo for Epic 4G. Download the
.tar file (different links have very different speeds). Then
download the Odin file right below it. Lets take a look at Odin
first. It must be this version of Odin as another I downloaded
did not have the needed options. Odin is used to Flash items to
your phone. Back to the .tar. The .tar is simply the Froyo
waiting to be flashed.
Now it is time to get Froyo on your phone. Click on the Odin file
and click on it. Windows should extract and then click on the
application and select run. Now with Odin open you will need to
put your phone in Download Mode. Unplug the phone and turn it off.
With all the lights off on the phone open the keyboard and hold
the "1" key while you hit the power button. A picture will appear
with the word Download on it. At that point plug the phone back
into the computer. Remeber the .tar file? On the Odin program
you must select PDA which is midway down and put the .tar file
in it. The Odin program must see the phone. Is the left box in
Odin showing COM with a number and possible color change? If not
then Odin does not see the phone and you must back up. If yes then
you are almost there. click Start in Odin and watch the magic.
Let the process finish. You now have Froyo on your phone! Go
back into the phone and turn on unknow apps, debugging, and stay
awake just like before. This must be done again!
I ran into an error at this point.
"process com.google.process.gapps"
The error does not change anything. I believe it to be associated
with a app I was using, but I am not sure which one. So I ran
advancedtaskkiller once. I have not had the problem since.
Normally do not use taskkillers according to many experts as
it will cause malfunctions.
The next step will be a root if you want more options like tether.
Follow this link back to where you got the drivers...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770388
Download the first link of
http://firon.net/xda/one.click.root.exploitv2.5.5.zip
It is great as you get other apps like superuser, busybox
and clockworkmod with this. No need to get them from the market.
With the phone plugged in open the zipped folder you just
downloaded. Click on the word run towards the bottom. It should
open the Command window and stated press any key. Press it and
sit back as it loads. Once finished you will have a rooted
phone. This will give you access to files and apps you normally
would not beable to use.
Now it is time to fix a couple of items. Go download Wireless
Tether from the app store. It should be one with a Green signal
icon. Go ahead and run it. Use your other wireless devices to
look for Android Tether. Are they able to pick up the signal?
If not, like mine, we can fix that. Follow this link...
http://forum.androidcentral.com/sprint-epic-4g/32049-howto-wifi-tethering-working.html#post319341
I did this a little differently. You will need to download the
Google program called Google Goggles, tAttachApkInstaller and the
Dolphin Internet Browser. It is a bar code scanner that can save
you money at the store and load programs onto your phone. Start
the Google Goggles app which loads a camera view. On your
computer follow the above link to ...
http://code.google.com/p/android-wi...?name=wireless_tether_2_0_5-pre8.apk&can=2&q=
A picture of a barcode is what you need. Hold the phone very
close to the screen and using Goggles take a picture of the
Bar Code. A little bar will pop up on the phone showing the
program. Click on it. The phone will ask what is program you
want to run this with. Select Dolphin Browser which will download
the program. Click on it and you will again be asked what to use.
Open the program with tAttach. After it is done you have tether!
Give it a try...open wireless tether and check with your other
devices for the signal. You now can wirelessly share your 3g
connection with all your devices. I cannot protect you from
extra charges sprint may give you.
I am one of the few lucky ones who has a good working GPS. A
GPS must take between 1 and 15 minutes to get a location for the
first time. Mine did not work until I ran GPS Test and then GPS
Status. Both from the market. After that I had no issues.
Hope this helps. Again give cedit to the devs and websites for
all the help. If I helped you please follow me on twitter
@kraisydave, Youtube @kraisydave, and flickr @kraisydave. I am
just starting up the Youtube thing with plans of more helpful
videos.

Thought I would update....froyo is running smooth and it appears I have doubled my battery life.
If these directions are found worthy of adding to the sticky/wiki world I will clean them up. Since I wrote the directions in the middle of the night on notepad my spelling and some grammer was not the best. If any of the mods decide this just message me or post here, so I know to start.

LG Optimus M Questions/help

Hi all,
Before I start I want to mention that I searched the forums as best possible to figure this out but I've had no luck.
My brother-in-law just got an Optimus M, from metropcs, last night. When he synced his contacts to facebook, he lost the ability to edit them and all the phone numbers were lost. Apparently, the facebook data overwrote the existing contact info. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it? As it stands, he can't make calls from the contact list and he can't edit/add/delete contacts without going through facebook.
Another problem he's noticed is that he got an error when he first connected the phone to his laptop via usb. After that error, now his computer doesn't even detect the phone. Is there a way to fix that?
A final question I have, what is the best way to root this phone? I'm used to working with the Evo, which has it's own forum. It's a little trickier to find relevant info for this phone. My search-fu will have to get much stronger, I think.
Thanks all!

3. Select English.
4. Next, on the main window choose to install the USB driver, and choose LGm690 as the model number.
5. Wait while the app downloads and installs 4 or 5 separate drivers.

When you say that you tried force installing the drivers and came close but nothing, what do you mean "came close" exactly?
Do you have the driver install .exe to install them? When you install them, does it say they were successfully installed but you still get nothing? If so, you may have to manually configure the driver through device manager. I've had to do this with a couple of tablets to get PC to recognize the device while in fastboot.

It's hard to believe that the drivers haven't been stored/posted somewhere else by someone using some kind of online file sharing site or forum, even if they weren't kept by the manufacturer.
I looked up the specs for your device, the specs say that you have an Amlogic Cortex A9 CPU architecture, have you tried drivers for other devices that use Amlogic Cortex A9 processor?
Also, when in device manager, try selecting the device on the list then right click then select "properties" then select the "details" tab then click on the drop down menu under "property" that shows "device description" by default then select "hardware IDs", write down the ID values, it will be more than one line of ID codes, then do some Google searches to find drivers for those ID codes? Sometimes that will find drivers that work for those hardware IDs, even if the drivers weren't specifically built or offered by the manufacturer of your hardware. Sometimes installing a driver that matches the hardware ID gets that particular hardware ID to work and gets it recognized by the system but then the system detects another "layer" of hardware with its own hardware ID that also needs a driver. Sometimes, if you go layer by layer installing drivers for each new hardware ID that gets exposed by the last driver that you installed, you can eventually get to where each "layer" is recognized, if you are lucky enough to find drivers for each hardware ID layer, you get to where the device is completely recognized correctly. I've done this before to get hardware recognized when I had nothing to go by to identify the device or component.

I know it's frustrating, I can't stand the crap that comes with messing with Chinese devices. You asked, I posted everything I could think of.
Also, I wouldn't brag about changing a blacklisted IMEI and cracking software here at XDA. That kind of thing isn't tolerated here because it's illegal in most places. Guys that do that kind of thing around here get banned from the site.

I wasn't bragging is was intended so that time isn't wasted with noobish, common sense, or beginners replys that's all, but my fault going over what I said i definitely missed the point I wanted to get across..

[SM-T397U/Soti MobiControl/Help] My Dad just found this cool brick essentially...

My dad is a home improvement guy and apparently people left some things behind and the new owner didn't want them. One of these things ended up being a Tablet, now I'm understanding why it was given up. It starts and immediately loads into Soti MobiControl and I can essentially do nothing with it. I've both Factory Wiped Via recovery mode and tried to remove the sim and booting into safe mode which also didn't work.
The next step was to even see if I could do anything Odin related to it and I can't enter download mode I'm assuming since it appears to be an old work device, they likely didn't have USB Debugging on. So that wouldn't work for me either.
TL;DR
I have this tablet that has an app on it that doesn't allow me to do anything with it and so far what I've tried has done nothing. Does anyone have any clue ?
Hi!
Since I don't know what this app do or what it can restrict, I'll be having some issues but I'll try my best to help you.
First, Can you boot into system and go to settings? If yes, then go to About device --> Build Number --> Tap 7 Times.
^_^
After searching about Soti Mobicontrol, I found this:
Uninstaller
Please try this and reply.
