OC? - T-Mobile LG G2x

What are people using to OC the G2x?
have tried a couple so far.. no luck on getting it past 1gh.

Do you have a custom kernel installed?

Not yet, was looking into either MIUI or CM7 - have not decided yet.
Just realized that the stock rom even rooted wont let you go over 1ghz
One more question - if you use NVflash to install clockworkmod.. I guess you cant use ROM manager on the phone? I have tried.. and it keeps asking me to install cockworkmod.. but its already installed???
James

Save your battery life. This phone is fast enough without oc. If you don't a quadrant test you probably won't even notice a difference.

Stay away from rom manager on the g2x, nothing but problems. Anyway, if you install cm7 then you'll still need to flash a custom kernel in order to overclock. Try faux123's or trinity. Plenty of resources here just look around and read up.

To the op, stay away from rom manager on the g2x. I have read in multiple locations that backups made through it have been known to screw up. It honestly offers no real benefits. I don't even use the damn thing and never have. Completely unnecessary.

[Q] Uhh, dumb question... lol.

I recently successfully installed Infused 2.1.0 after pulling my hair and running into weird issues along the way, like boot loops etc (learning... slowly).
I love to tweak things and ran across this GB tweak here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1236779
The dumb question part is how the heck do I "flash" that into my device? I was thinking that I need to go into CWM recovery thingy with the red letters during post and I remember seeing an option to install a .zip. Now I was either thinking that or either I need to use SGS Kernel to flash it?
Sorry for the nubby Q but I'm sooo confused here.

Stock with that CWM kernel from the Infused post, you think overclocking it to 1.6Ghz 24/7 is fine using infusion?

"Different hardware" is not the whole story. Look at LinuxBozo's Galaxy ROM Hellraiser Beta9. A user managed to flash Samsung based Captivate/Vibrant ROMs (obviously, you've got to "make sure it's Samsung Gingerbread based" {-LinxBozo}).

Much of the ui can be ported. But I don't know if using the whole rom while adding infuse libs has been tried or is likely to work. I think there are just too many differences. But if you feel motivated then try it. Start pulling in libs and bins from infuse roms and make sure you have the unbrick package ready. But remember to use an infuse kernel and modem.

Hmm... Interesting. I tried SensatioN with Hellraiser yesterday, and I had some info on the "about phone" section (don't remember if I had it all), and that modem and tweak setup, I'm gonna have to give it a try. I'm currently in stock because, yesterday, I was feeling defiant and tried to flash a JVS ROM from the i9000 forum with Hellraiser, as opposed to a JVQ, and ended up in an eternal bootloop. I was a bit tired so I just returned to stock and went to sleep. I'm gonna see if I give it a second try today in the afternoon. And also, I don't know why, my SensatioN was lagging a bit. I should've rebooted my phone a couple of times (instead of immediately making a call after rebooting the first time) to create some stability. I might give it a second try later today. I'll let you know how it goes. (I'm feeling sooo defiant this week. I WANT to make a JVS/JVR ROM work. All the JVQ ROMs I found, weren't very appealing, or were left in the dust by the devs.) lol
I had the same problem so went to the i9000 sensation and no problems worked beautifully very nice rom
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
I give up. I tried to flash a JVS ROM by flashing a stock JVS i9000 ROM, and flashing two other .zip files, then Hellraiser, but, one of them, CWM would abort every time I tried to flash it, so it got stuck in bootloop also. I'm gonna try SensatioN one more time. If I fail to make it work again, I'm going to stick to Infused. I hope someone manages to port SGSII ROMs for Infuse I really want to get my hands on one.
U and me both. Have u tried the ported dlev rom? I flashed hellraiser beta 9 on top of it. Probably my favorite rom out right now fast responsive awesome battery life. Give it a shot if u haven't already.

[Q] Complete NOOB needs help

I'm a complete noob and I need help.
Like many other I had the bug to do stuff with my phone, I kept hearing about Odin, Flashing... Hey Root your phone. So what do I do? I head to YouTube, watch some videos and be a master of my phone by days end.
I ruined my phone!
I played with Odin, i probably installed the worn stuff. I rooted with superone click, and installed a bunch of junk and it didn't do crap for my phone. As a matter of fact its running the same Froyo and its giving me a bunch of error messages.
Please someone help me, I want to restore to stock, and start from scratch. Odin is not recognizing the phone, I have tried to wipe all data, unroot and it will not unroot.
I don't know what to do.
Thanks!
JorJay
Sorry you're having issues. If you want to get back to stock Froyo, you can use FBis251's:
kd1-stock-sgh-t959v-one-click.jar
If you want to get on stock Gingerbread, you can use bhundven's:
T959VUVKJ6 Stock UVKJ6
Both are based on Heimdall. If you read through the Gingerbread one-click post it will give you directions on how to use either of these to get you where you want to be.
Let me know how it goes.

What? Is that what you would do if you are on Froyo? You need to flash back to Froyo with the KD1 One-Click Stephen linked in his post and follow your own advice. Good luck with that.
And why would you flash a "GB kernel" after Gremlim Remover? You need to read more and bring yourself up to speed.
Stephen actually knows what he is talking about and answered the guy.
Gb is stock now and getting him a gb rom was his original goal anyway. I gave the best answer to achieve his goals ether way. Otherwise in order to get to GB he will have to use kies ( or wait for the TMobile update,) then go from there by rooting.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
Oh Gremlin remover loads not just the kernal but a complete gingerbread STOCK prerooted then if he chooses to load other ROMS he can load a new GB kernal and go from there.

I'll be nice this time. Gremlin Remover does not flash GB bootloaders for you. Gremlin Remover has a GB kernel and there is no need to flash a different GB kernel to flash a GB rom after using Gremlin Remover. Stephen knows what he is talking about pointing the OP to the One-Click which would allow him to flash GB bootloaders if he chose to change to GB.
Your original post and subsequent posts are nice in the idea of helping others but wrong in the fact the OP would have problems after following your inaccurate advice.
Learn more before helping others. How would you like somebody to give you crap instructions and cause you more problems, especially after a knowledgeable person - Stephen - already answered the guy.
Fare enough

I'll be nice to everyone this time...lol
Gremlink Remover INCLUDES the bootloaders. I also has a pre-rooted kernel. So all someone needs to do to come from foyo is flash gremlin remover 1 click. Then said someone can flash whatever custom ROM they want.
The only thing bot24 is wrong with is flashing another kernel...
My bad, I must have this thing about the Galaxy S kernel Flasher. Probably cause I love switching up the kernels. Probably because it's something I've never done with actual Linux.

Best stable rom?

Hey guys my girlfriend has been using this phone for about a year. She is finaly ready to have me root it and flash a smother rom than stock.
I was wondering what was the most stable rom out there.? She will not flash a bunch of roms or anything... Its more of a one time deal...
Sorry what's the smoothest stable rom?
Thanks guys!

Stock is the most functional, but if you're wanting a flash it and leave it kind of ROM, stick with CM7
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Really depends. CM7 based are my favorite, but if you want BT calling, than rooted stock is the only way. Unless you wanna jump through hoops to downgrade your BB from the March BB. Assuming tthat's what your on. Ivetried tons of ROMs. CM9/10 based are not stable as a daily driver ROM. Eaglesblood and Hellfire v2.3 GB and taemsek build 135.1 are very good CM7 roms.
Its really dependant on what you need the phone to do.

Which Hellfire? If you want stability don't flash Hellfire Sandwhich. Flash Phenoix v.2.2/2.3 (2.3 is what I use the most as a daily driver, until build 135 nightly came along)
Than I would flash fauxs 050 kernel. I have some issues with 051 kernel.
Just my 2cents.

Goto Settings, About Phone, scroll down to baseband version, does it say in the number March 11, 2012, or a Date I believe Jul 15, 2011.
If you have March 2012, you will need to flash newbaseband.zip as well after you flash the ROM, it's simple.
Here is hotlink for newbaseband. It is not included in the ROM, most of them don't offer it but it's a simple flash n' fix.
Soo,
Do your full wipes,
Flash ROM
Flash Kernel (if not wanting CM7 stock)
Flash newbaseband.zip
flash gapps (if you'd like, I never do anymore cause I use a handful of G Apps.)

I'll try it out when I get off work.. Basically I was going to download the rom from rom manager because I didn't want to search through threads on her stock browser since she didn't have the xda app and I couldn't download the file on my computer and transfer to her phone because her rom wouldn't let her mount usb because miui sucks. So I downloaded the rom from rom manager then I was going to just boot into recovery and flash manually. But rom manager said there was no recovery and that I needed to install one so I let rom manager do that for me.. I downloaded the rom and then rebooted into recovery to flash I was surprised that the font was orange because it used to be blue on her phone. I noticed the cwm version and it was one I've never used or seen anyone use. So first thing I did was factory reset then wiped cache and dalvik. Now I took an extra step and formatted system because I do that on twrp on my gs2. So everything wiped and I go to install from sd card to locate the file to flash and all that's there is dcim and data... Nothing else. I though maybe because I formatted system?? I tried turning off the phone then getting back into recovery and it was the same... Nothing showing up on install from sd. Now I'm freaking out because I go to restore the nandroid from her original stock rom and nothings there either. I already wiped with no option to let me install anything now I don't know what to do. Was it that stupid recover I flashed that is unstable or was it because I formatted system?? I should of checked to see if her internal and external popped up in recovery on install from sd card but didn't think to do so cuz I never had that problem.... I'm ****ed.

Boom, there's your problem, do not use rom manager, you have to use nvflash to get recovery. Search for oneclicknvflasher to get cwm. You need a computer, and download the LG USB g2x drivers, use Google for that. You can never brick this phone.

I tried rooting.. and im scared I screwed up my phone?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2332825 I used this and now it boots up like Install, wipe, backup, restore, mount, settings, advanced and reboot. WHAT DO I DO?
You are in recovery. You probably want to make a backup. Then you flash a Rom if you want. Did you do any research on flashing before you did this.

Just go into the Verizon galaxy s3 development area on this forum and find a ROM that u would like. It will explain everything that u need to do. Please read the entire post before doing anything though. And remember. NEVER FLASH AN INTERNATIONAL ROM. that's death for your phone. If its not meant for an sch-i535 (Verizon s3) then do not use it

You're in download mode. Pull the battery. Reboot the phone. Open super user. It should ask to update. Do that.
Go to this site and read this page. Click the download button.
http://www.scottsroms.com/content.p...;-Clean!-Smooth!-Stable!-No-Gimmicks!-★
Then click galaxy s3 (Verizon). Click clean ROM 7. Then towards the top right of the page click download.
DO ALL OF THAT FROM YOUR PHONE SO ITS EASIER
then turn ur phone off. Then hold down volume up+home button+ power button to reboot into recovery. Do a back up. Then wipe your phone. Then install your ROM. follow the on screen instructions and then you're good to go.

THIS. please do plenty of reading before attempting to flash roms, or even root for that matter. why would you root, unlock, and install a custom recovery if you have no idea what the recovery screen looks like ?
SIR. there are plenty of videos on youtube, threads on this site, and information in other places on this subject. read up . that is the only reason any of us know how to answer your questions.
without reading, i am sure as soon as you flash whatever rom you decide on, you will be right back here with more questions. if not BEFORE you even accomplish it. search youtube, and find a video on "how to flash roms using TWRP" there are plenty of videos. watch a couple.
there are also videos on almost every ROM that we have available, so you could check it out before you flash it.
the biggest thing i and others will say is READ READ READ.
good luck!

initial boot will take about as long as it did when you first turned it on out of the box. 2-5 minutes tops. 5 would be strange though. end up getting this figured out?
I actually just wiped data and cache and it booted up within 3 minutes
Thank You

I just want to say thank you for offering the best advice we can give to noobs( I am a noob and I'm not ashamed). I had never even heard of rooting before I got my galaxy s3 and I had no idea what I was doing when I rooted it. But, I got lucky. I found CASUAL and rooted my phone in literally 3 minutes. And the first time I saw the twrp screen I panicked, got lucky again when I chose reboot system, then I got sooooooo lucky when I accepted the OTA and lost my root but didn't have any serious problems. That was over a month ago and I have not rooted phone again because now, after all the reading I've done I can see very clearly how lucky I was. My point is, rooting and modifying our phones is serious business and we should understand what we're doing before we do it. And we should exercise some caution when offering advice.
Good luck to everyone in your endeavors and take care of your lovely little phones!
