Just got my AT&T Galaxy Note yesterday and saw that it has built in Hotspot functionality, you just need to have it on your AT&T plan for it to work.
So my question... is there a free app out there (for non rooted) that will allow you to do Wifi tethering even if you do not have it on your AT&T plan?
Probably a better chance at an answer in the att note section

Possible. It really is just more of a general Wifi Tethering question. Could be for any carrier.
It's not a general question as the international note comes with tethering that works fine without having to have it on your operator options. This is at &t specific.

If this is like the iPhone, if you do it without having a plan, AT&T will start sending you spam messages telling you to buy a plan.
Think I found 1 app that works pretty well, but I will post this in the AT&T section. Thanks everyone.

For everyone who wants calling capabilities on their tab, I just downloaded and tested it over wifi and it works great! I haven't tested it over 3g yet as I don't have a plan, but I am planning on tethering to my nexus s tomorrow morning to see how it works! It is $9.95/month, or $49.95 for six months, so it's not free, butt they give you a free 30 day trial to try it out to see how you like it. I think it will be a pretty damn good option for a lot if people out there! It includes free unlimited calling and messaging to US and and canada, it also includes voice mail and conference calling, as well as some other features...check it out and leave some feedback for the community! I think you can even get a 1-800 number, although haven't checked out the cost on that? Don't really need one...

has anyone got the sprint galaxy tab to work with 3G?
It's a wonder their rates aren't higher when they pay 3 employees to spam forums: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=924855
that didn't answer my question about wheater or not the sprint galaxy tab will work with 3G
In all honesty your question does not make sense. What do you mean "get the sprint tab to work with 3g". Yeah if you have service with sprint, you will get 3g data speeds. Quit being a douche with your "that didn't answer my question" nonsense. You honestly expect the VERY first post after your terribly positioned question to be the almighty answer you were looking for?
Sorry, i was just try to see if anyone was able to get line2 to work with the 3g on a sprint galaxy tab, because i am not able to get it to work.
Yes, I have it working on my Sprint Galaxy Tab but only over Wi-Fi.
I do not have the 3G service enabled on my Tab.
I have used it on 3G and wifi it works, i've even tried it on Edge it didn't work all that well but hey.

Please excuse my ignorance, I am very much looking forward to purchasing a Samsung Galaxy S 4G on AT&T.
I currently have a Nexus One and love all the features (tethering and wifi hotspot), now I found out that if I want to keep my features. I will have to buy an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S 4G just like my Nexus One.
<here is where I get all newbie>
Can I buy the AT&T locked and someone enable the above features and get around AT&T charging me and arm and leg?
thanks
Well the sgs4g comes with the option to tether...its on settings, wireless and network, tehtering and portal hotspot, mobile AP...all you do is activate it and it works...just dont go over your data limit and i think you should be fine

I have an unlimited plan, but according to AT&T, if I attempt to activate the option, there will be an 'account' check and it will determine that I do not have the tethering or Wifi option on our account. My wife has the ATX and she is not able to use either, unless you calls AT&T and asks for the feature in which will cost a ton of money.
My Nexus One is unlocked and I think (again.. I am a newbie) that is why I can use it, so.. will the AT&T SGS4g come unlocked when I buy it from AT&T? (i don't think so), so ... how do I proceed?
I think .. I am going to really like this phone, just do not want to looks the features that I use from time to time.
If you do manage to unlock your device to permit the hotspot feature and AT&T discovers this, they may attempt to charge you for it. I would recommend switching to T-Mobile if you want to use that feature without ridiculous charges.

I know sprint used to have free wifi hotspot on the nexus on 2.3.5 I believe. If I flash back to that can I still use it legally? Its been blocked in 2.3.7. I'm currently on an ics rom and use wifi tether but can I get in trouble with sprint for this? When I opened my 2 lines I asked the sprint rep if sprint cracks down on illegal tethering like att was chasing me on my iPhone mywi. He said they don't care and he was actually tethering to his iPad at that very moment lol what do you guys think? I'd go to 2.3.5 if I can tether with no penalties.

ive been tethering on tmobile for "free" for the past 4 years, even though they have a tethering plan. i think whats important to them is that youre paying for your data. at&t are just a**holes. as a matter of fact, i cancelled my at home internet service more than 2 years ago. i strictly tether for my at home internet, no reason to pay for the same thing twice.
Oops did some reading. I guess the hotspots feature was killed in 2.3.5. Free hotspot only in 2.3.4. I prefer wifi tether because it can also tether to 4g too not only 3g like sprints hotspot

I originally purchased the T-Mobile Tab 2 10.1, just to have the 3G/4G capability on my tablet. However, I was disappointed when I swapped in my old sim card that had the Unlimited 4G data plan on it. I was informed that since the Tab2 is classified as an "internet device", they cannot include the Unlimited 4G plan.
So my question is, If I buy the international variant, seeing as they're almost like a phone (since those variants have the ability to make calls), would I be able to put in the sim card with the Unlimited 4G and make full use of it?
First of all, International Tab 2 or P3100 doesn't have LTE or 4G support. If that's not an issue then yes you can use it as a phone to roam internet and make calls too. Hope that helps. Cheers!!

Has anyone gotten the T-Mobile Wi-Fi calling features to work on the moto x?

Doubt it. There was a huge bounty for someone to get it working on the nexus 4. Never happened. Probably won't happen here either.
I'm on Republic Wireless, our moto x is a modded sprint phone. My WiFi calling works amazing.
PS I used to be on T-Mobile with my HTC One. I just couldn't resist the savings that RW gives me.

How's sprint service? I'm tempted, but everything I hear about it is horrible. I had sprint before and it was bad, especially data.
I had sprint before actually. I had a GSII that I bought on contract 30 days before the GSIII announced and launched. So I was stuck with a 4G wimax phone in an area where we have no sort of 4G. And I was stuck paying for that useless 4G.
I'm happy with republic since with WiFi I don't worry about call reception. And it roams on Verizon if needed.
And for data plans I can pay and use 3G if I wanted to or 4G if it ever comes here. But I'm happy not having data when driving or shopping. And only paying $10 makes me happy with that decision.
But yes I won't lie. Sprints 3G is usually abysmal. My fiancée just got an iPhone 5S on sprints one up. Now he's paying $96/month for the same service I get on a ****ty iSheep device.
If I wanted to use 4G I'd only have to pay $40/month and thats comparable to T-Mobile pre and postpaid. And republic let's you switxh plans twice a month if you want. They are talking of simply selling buckets of data too for people like me that are happy with just cell calls And texts with WiFi only data, but occasionally wish we had a bit of mobile data.

I have sprint, how do I use Wi-Fi calling?
Sent from my XT1056 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
No input on Wi-Fi calling but I will chime in on Sprint services with the Moto X!
I am coming from and 18 month old Evo LTE, rooted to the Moto X with the Sprint SIM card installed (bought from MotoMaker Cyber Monday) Had to activate the phone through a chat conversation on the activation website.
-I will admit that I am now actually very pleased with Sprint service in my area....
-It actually connects really well to 4G and STAYS connected....
-It (usually) re-connects to 4G when in an area of 4G unlike with my Evo (meaning it would sometimes connect to 4G then the next day I wouldn't even be able to connect to force 4G in the same location)
-The Sprint 4G speeds SUCK at best though. Check Sensorly speeds in my 4G area..... you may see a 14mb but average would MAYBE be 6MB, me that's 3G speeds.
-I still am thinking of dropping Sprint. Sure it's unlimited but Sprint has taught me to rely on Wi-Fi.
Well doing some research I found that republic wireless uses sprint signal. Even doing a coverage check they say to look at sprints maps. So I also seen that bringing a sprint phone to republic wireless is not possible because of republics wifi calling or what they call hybrid calling has specific code baked into their phones Rom.
So with that info how hard would it be to extract that features code from their Roms for use on Sprint phone s? Or could a Sprint phone flash a republic rom and be able to use that wifi calling feature on Sprint.
Wifi Calling has always been closed source and will never be available on 3rd party ROM......If something change it would be #1 news on XDA
So just to put this out there. My cousin has a HTC one sprint phone and he was complaining how it kept popping up something about unable to connect to WiFi calling whenever he tried to call someone. I took a look at his phone and were settings in his phone related to WiFi calling. But it was wanting account information or a sip account. Thought that was interesting.

I think the SIP internet calling options were added waaay back in GB?. Maybe it wasn't until ICS. OP wants native wifi calling. Google Voice + Groove IP is about as close as you can get for now.
Odd, I thought you could activate Internet Calling with a build.prop change & something in the permissions folder... Noticed I had it on my CM10.1.3 Galaxy Note.
