[Q] How can I reset cell internet settings? - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I have a Focus S. I found a tool to enable Internet Sharing on it, but since I enabled it the internet connection on the phone has been pretty suspect- web page loads time out, but if I turn the phone off and back on again it works fine. This is over wifi, so it's definitely not a cell network issue.
How can I remove these custom patches and go back to normal? Internet sharing is great, but it's not worth it for this amount of trouble...

You should ask questions like this on the thread for that tool (it's published here on XDA-Devs, after all). Alternatively, just read the thread itself - there's some info there from other people who had the same problem.

New guy - just got an XDA Orbit.

Hi.
As you can guess my name's Pete.
I've just received an XDA orbit from O2. I've been fiddling with it for a good few hours now, and I have somequestions that I cannot find answers to in the (rather thick) user manual:
I want to completely disable the use of GPRS. Is there any way I can do this? On the phone the menus tell me I can download sattelite info for the GPS receiver (quickgps), either through GPRS or via the activesync connection. It's defaulting to the gprs and I don't want that. I want to use my home broadband connection to connect the phone to the internet, but it keeps trying to do it the other way round.
This is my first xda and I would appreciate any help or advice on this or general tips etc. If anyone has any questions they would like to ask me about this phone please feel free.
Pete.
Pete, Sorry, I can't really your question since I don't own this phone. I just wanted to ask you how does phone functionality compare with your previous phones?
Well since I've only owned conventional phones before I find the range of features quite breathtaking, but I can't compare it to other PDA-type devices not having any experience with them before. I've been using a Motorola V3 for the past 2 years, and though it's a tough phone the software sucks and the processor is very slow. The Orbit is much faster despite having to run a much more complicated operating system.
So far I'm very pleased with it, especially the size. It's by far the most compact PDA I've seen. Here it is alongside my own V3 and my daughter's W850i
Ok I've meneged to get it to work through the activesync by turning off advanced network services. Now I can update the GPS sattelite data through my broadband, and even use Internet Explorer.
I would still like to turn off GPRS completely though.
Orbit
Hi. I have just had a play with an Orbit, it is brilliant if I don’t mind saying.
I have used Palms and Psions before, but this is light years ahead.
Have a look at this site. http://www.4winmobile.com/viewtopic.php?p=42938
It provide a good over view, and some more links to see if there is any one else out there that can answers your question. After my current phones contract expires, end of Feb, I will get one. I can’t wait…
Cool - be aware that O2 will only ship the satnav software with £40 and above tariffs. Thanks for the link
I think that if you go to your settings menu and thenyour connections menu you can see the option to manage exisiting settings. in that option you can delete settings. without them it can't connect to GPRS. But back up your connection settings first. even if it means writing them down.
Also I'm not sure if the pocket pc will try to connect still and then give you a message that it failed to connect.
Yes the Orbit is nice - I wonder if Orange are going to supply it.
The HTC (manufacturer) name for this is Artemis - ask your questions the specific section of this forum as there should be a bunch of people hanging around in there who already have some experience of it.

Help: WI-FI Networking two HTC 8525 (Hermes) PPC's

Hello all! I'm quite sure the answer is already out there somewhere, but looking in some similar topics I have not found the answer to my specific question.
A little background; my wife and I both have AT&T 8525's (HTC Hermes'), and we are both running vp3G's WinMo6 v3.62 AT&T cooked ROM (if that makes a diff in this). We have several multiplayer games we regularly play using our wi-fi router at home, which works fine as long as we are in range of the router.
MY QUESTION IS: Is it possible to network our two phones together via wi-fi for the purposes of multiplayer gaming, file sharing, etc? If so, can you point me to instructions on how to do this? I would like to be able to setup my phone to be the "hot spot", and then her phone would detect my phone as an access point. Again my primary goal in this is simply for multi-player gaming, but I would also like to be able to share files in this manner (as in a Windows Explorer or similar type setting, where we can browse each other's phones, copy/paste files, etc. much like using the "Map Network Drive" in PC Windows). I don't need to use this setup to access the internet, but if the capability is there then that is fine (keep in mind I only use wi-fi for internet and never use AT&T's data network).
So basically I'm looking for one of two setup schemes here:
Scheme #1 (simple, preferred, basically a tiny network consisting of our two PPC's):
{PPC#2 Connected to PPC#1 via WiFi} --> {PPC#1 Acting as WiFi Hot-Spot for PPC#2, can do multiplayer gaming & file browsing/sharing, etc} --> {NO EXTERNAL NETWORK CONNECTION, works everywhere our 2 phones are in wi-fi range of one another}
Scheme #2: (only if it HAS to be this setup for some reason I can't fathom)
{PPC#2 Connected to PPC#1 via WiFi} --> {PPC#1 Acting as WiFi Hot-Spot for PPC#2, Gets Internet Connection from WiFi router and shares with PPC#2} --> {Linksys WiFi Router}
Ok, so there's what I'm after. If for some reason both of the above setups are not possible, what about Bluetooth (WiFi still my first choice)? I am still learning Windows Mobile so I apologize if this is something elementary or considered to be self-evident, or if it is something I have overlooked on this forum already.
(I also have some more challenging questions I will post separately at a later time, but this seems as if it should be relatively simple & easy to setup so first things first).
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR TIME IN READING AND/OR RESPONDING TO THIS, IT IS APPRECIATED!

Semi-Noob questions

Thanks to this forum, my less-than-2months-old Verizon TP2 (Rhod500) phone has internet sharing working and some great apps, although I'm still on the stock 6.1 rom (my phone didn't come with 6.5 and the forums seem to show that Verizon's rom is not the greatest). I'm not brave enough to flash.
However, I've a couple of 'general' questions that I can't seem to solve.
1. When syncing (ActiveSync 4.5), I now have an error showing 2 unresolved files. As far as I can tell, I haven't lost any files. Is there somewhere that I can look to find the list of what is/isn't being synced? When I click on the error message, it just tries to resync and repeats the error. My old IPAQ used to allow me to see what files were unresolved but that doesn't seem to be happening here.
2. Since enabling internet sharing (Tom_Codon), my backlight dims but never completely goes dark. My Settings > All Settings > Power > Advanced has Battery - Turn off backlight if not used for 1 min selected but no sleep mode selected. I think that sleep mode was selected before the internet sharing was enabled, but I'm not sure. Is this so that the internet doesn't cut out? Should this change?
Any advice will be greatfully appreciated. (My Verizon service center people know NOTHING about the TP2 - ask them about mediaphones and they're great. And it seems like nobody has asked these questions before, or my forum search just isn't working well.)
Moving this to the CDMA sub forum.

Do the ROM upgrade! I too was afraid but so glad that I did. It fixed a lot of glitches that I had with 6.1. Then head over to the forum "Software worth installing on the TP2" and knock yourself out! Especially Cookie's Home Tabs! It's a must have. (You'll also need CHTE...Cookie's Home Tabes Editor) Look for Touch X Manila Tweaks too. (if your device uses Sense 2.5 after the ROM upgrade) It will tweak the device to speed up the Sense 2.5 user interface and cut down on the memory used too, I think.
Q1. Not that I'm aware of. But, maybe you changed a a couple of files in both the device and the sync folder located in your PC's "My Documents"?
Q2. Tom Codon's WiFi should run if you enable sleep mode. If not...well, I guess you'll have to disable it. I just know that my Sprint TP2 runs this program even after it shuts off.
I'm still a bit of a nube too but I hope I helped.

Standalone GPS on xv6700; Solved?

I want to say I love this site and have learned alot. I have tried for quite a time to get GPS to work on the xv6700, tho it seems much disinformation has been spread as far as a GPS being within. I have torn down this phone to see for myself if the MSM6500 was in this, which it is. Therefore I believe it does have this ability. I recently installed a program called WPS by Skyhook, which is a Wireless Positioning System. Now just a footnote; my phone has no carrier, I only use it for surfing the internet with wifi. To utilize WPS the site tells me I would need an active internet connection, however it stills works with no connection!!! It seems as if I have gotten the internal gps to wake up. I use Open Mobile Maps and it works excellent. I pickup satellites with Google Maps just to test at home (so far as many as 10 satellites). Can somebody else please duplicate this to verify exactly what is going on here? I just want to emphasize that this is with NO CONNECTION to ANYTHING!!!

[Q] Sudden massive data use

I recently used Windowbreak, and set up internet sharing on my Samsung Omnia 7, following the instructions here. It all seemed to work fine, but I've now had messages from my network (Orange UK) saying that I've gone way over my monthly data allowance. My allowance is 750MB, and I never usually use more than about 400. This month I went over 750 in the first two days!
Orange won't send me a full breakdown, but they did say that the phone is using huge amounts of data at apparently random times in the middle of the night. Not only was I not using it, but it was connected to my home wifi at the time, so shouldn't have been using any 3G data at all! I have only used internet sharing a couple of times, and it's always turned off when I'm not using it.
I'm on 7.10.7740.16. Can anyone help me? Sorry if this has been posted before, I've searched, but only found people with the opposite problem (i.e. no data at all, instead of too much!)
I'm no expert with this stuff, just following instructionhs really, so I'd be really grateful for any help.
Thanks,
Steve.
Did you change any other settings when you used Windowbreak? Have you installed any apps that use frequently-updating Live Tiles? Do you have the user feedback option enabled? When you say the phone is on WiFi, is it actually plugged in? If not, it will turn off the WiFi when the screen is locked in order to conserve battery.
There have been some spikes of data usage in the past, but they were generally tracked down (having an auto-updating Yahoo mail account was a data hog for a few months, for example Some kind of breakdown would help, but You can always just try turning off as many data-using features (Find My Phone, email sync, Live and Facebook messaging, Live Tiles, etc.) as you can find. Then, re-enable them one or two at a time and try to find the culprit. Some people here in the US get by on 200MB or less of data limit (I have no idea how; I can use several times that in a day) so it should be possible.
Thanks for the reply. No, I don't think I changed anything at the same time as setting up Windowbreak and internet sharing, I just followed the instructions for each one. I haven't got any new apps either that would explain the sudden spike in data.
My phone is always plugged in overnight, so I don't understand why it didn't use wifi instead of 3G for whatever it was doing. It might be that it had always used that much data, but it had previously done it through wifi so I hadn't seen it.
The annoying thing is that Orange won't give me a breakdown of what data I'm using until after the end of the billing month, so I can't get real time information to show me what's working and what isn't. Is there any way to monitor data use, or to see which apps are using what?
Thanks,
Steve.
Sadly, that's not currently possible. You could just turn off the cellular data connection (in Settings) at night, but that's awkward and you'd need to remember to re-enable it.
