FAQs
[Q] Where can I learn and find out more about MIUI, and get tips?
Here.
[Q] What is the best Governer to use? What is the best I/O Scheduler to use?
See UC Kernel thread for a link to very useful information about these topics. Keep in mind that 1.3GHz or so makes the ROM unstable for some people, so don't overdo anything.
Newer version releases have kernel changes, experimentation for stability!
Market does not allow download? Market does not allow me to download apps with high size?
Check HERE.
[Q] What Kernel do I use? What's the procedure for flashing?
RECOMMENDED KERNEL FOR USE (for this build): 'vurrutKER_v3_cm_fixIO_initd' [will be overwritten anyway]
1.3GHz OC, or high overclocks, trigger problems for some users. Try not to go overboard with this ROM...
Your kernel WILL be overwritten. Use the flash procedure as directed in the OP.
Fresh KPE then KPU, or KPQ.. // Universal CF-Root // ANY KERNEL // Wipe dalvik // REBOOT // MIUI flash // Wipe dalvik, battery etc.
[Q] What are addons, where can I find them?
Addons are optional (usually!) things you would want to flash over to your current MIUI rom to customize it at your will. All the current available add-ons are CWM flashable, and you can find them in Frank's thread (see important links above).
[Q] How do I make Radio work?
MIGHT NOT WORK. PLEASE CHECK.
1- Download spirit fm free from the market
2- plug in the headphones
3- run spirit fm free and open settings
4- set regional regional Band to World
5- choose audio from the settings then methods
6- choose GalaxyS Danger
Thanks to ahmadalsaady
[Q] I'm having Battery Drain, why?
Use the Spare Parts app to see your usage stats!
This is a port and battery drain is common as it's not perfect yet. Please don't complain about battery drain. If you're facing very bad drain, try taking some common steps, like disabling WIFI when not in use, etc.
Apart from that, try these tips from gm007 (Dev):
-use another launcher.
-disable auto rotate.
-use 2g.
-In phone settings turn off enforce proximity sensor.
-turn off background data.
-manually kill the apps by the long pressing the home button.
Use a task killer. Experiment and research in dev and Q/A threads.
[Q] I get a Force Close in 'Sound Settings'.
This might be due to Themes sometimes not supporting! If your force close is "android.process.media" then see the specific question about that below.
My battery stats show 0% and 0s -- Battery Stats are not being recorded?
Turn on "Monitor Battery Usage" in Battery Settings!
[Q] Does Extended MIUI work?
Yes! Get it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22309487&postcount=1203
[Q] I have a Force Close in an app I'm trying to run!
Try reinstalling. Use Titanium Backup to save any data first, then restore it. This works for 95% of apps that started FCing for me.
[Q] I have a force close for android.process.acore after flashing! Help!
Navigate to Settings - Programs - Manage Applications - All.
CLEAR DATA for 'Contacts and Dialer' and 'Contacts Storage'.
Reboot phone. This should fix your problem.
[Q]I have to swap ext/int SD Cards. The Gingerbread Swap won't work, what is wrong?
There is a MIUI specific version for the swap! Get it from Important Links at the top of this post.
[Q] I have a force close for andriod.process.media on flashing, opening market or an app!
Navigate to Settings - Programs - Manage Applications - All.
Clear data for Download Manager and Media Storage.
Reboot phone. This should fix your problem.
[Q] I'm having a Bootloop!
You did something wrong, try starting fresh and reflash. See procedure as directed in the OP (dev thread).
[Q] How do I know if my device has the Backlight/Blacklight issue?
Here's a video showing the issue:
http://youtu.be/nr6B7r2mXmo
[Q] When will developer fix XYZ issue? When will XYZ be released?
You're getting this stuff for free, you should be grateful for his hard work and be patient for the next release. The Dev is working hard on making this ROM perfect.
[Q] I have AUDIO STUTTER problem!
Use the Sound Patch to reduce stutter or another player from the market, to possibly fix! Please note, newer releases have lesser stutter. Using another player usually fixes the problem.
[Q] What is the latest changelog?
From OP:
V10.4
-MIUI Update 2.4.6
-Bluetooth headphones work
-Small changes in tweaks
[/SIZE] * * * * * * * * * * * * *

it wud be great if u also include audio improvement patch by ganesh

Yes added, I'm building it up right now, it's not done

I will add to my OP Thanks.

you might wanna update this
What's BUGGY in the latest version, but works in v8?
- Video Recording, using stock camera
Video recording doesn't work except with videocam illusion from market

perfect work mate!!!

Looking pretty neat.... Great work dude
My two cents...:-
Probably linking the bug report - if it's being used or tracked currently...
Force close in Sound settings? Ans: Due to themes not supporting.
Whether extended support works if yes where can i get it? - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22309487&postcount=1203
Something related to ppl complaining about battery drain..
Questions related to which Kernel to use - which one is partially buggy (like 1.3G overclocking triggers problems to few users) and which one would be suitable?
Which is the best governer settings for battery life / performance?
These are just my suggestions bro. Add whichever things u feel are appropriate.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions! Keep 'em coming .

Maybe you can link aroma installer too. Also state which kernels are compatible. Its an FAQ . Great work by the way!
PS. Its blacklight, not backlight issue if I'm not wrong(?)(correct me if I'm wrong)
Cheers

Work in progress
Anyway I don't know if it's blacklight/backlight people call it both.

Regarding Audio Stutter. (For those who are having this problem).
You can either use PowerAmp (This is a paid app with a awful ui) or you can use Instinctiv player.
All the other "So Called Popular Audio Players" don't solve the problem.

pls add aroma installer (for me v8.5 working much better after it) and my smooth scroll frameworks

You have to change the buffer settings to greater than 250.

I flashed(CWM->Flash->wipe cache->wipe dalvik cache) ganeshbiyer's audio improvement zip but was unable to boot the phone. Not a boot loop but a dark screen after samsung gt i9003 screen. Reflashed miui v8 after this. Did i went wrong somewhere?

also add external internal sdcard swap by ganesh

Is there any user who had the blacklight issue earlier but after proper installation method mentioned in the OP got it solved...
Pls reply me fast....to confirm whether its an installation issue...
andpls mention ur steps of installation..

[ROM][PNK] "Mighty Nutella" ~ Ugly, Slow and Buggy (bloated too) CM7 builds.
Introduction

After a lot of requests I'm opening a new thread which will contain my latest CM7 builds (you can find my older builds in this thread). I'll be updating this post so people can follow progress easier, and post their requests/observations. In the next few days I'll be updating this thread with information on how to build your own CM7 ROM. Some might consider it messy, but that's how I've been doing it for quite some time now and the result is satisfactory (for me at least).
About the ROM
Click to collapse
The rom is not pure CM7. I build it from source with the latest commits, then I apply modifications, mostly focusing on speed and smoothness. The releases are not that frequent, you'll be (normally) seeing updates every time there's a bunch of noteworthy additions/fixes by the Cyanogenmod team, or when I'm making significant modifications (even less frequently). If you want a pure CM7 build with frequent (nightly) updates you can take a look at the thread by Kali- which hosts the official nightly releases.
Edit: Here you can find the commit i'm reverting on each release, just in case anyone wants to make their own personal build. <~ Apparently, this is no longer necessary.

Mirror #2: http://www.eth0.it/Android/index.php?dir=PNK/ (kindly provided by maddler - thanks!)
Warning!
Make sure you disable Music syncing @ Accounts & Sync, under the settings menu. This is due to the experimental Honeycomb Music.apk. Thanks to the people that pointed it out in the thread! The Honeycomb Music player has been removed in the recent releases.
Bundled with the latest GApps (including the new Market).
You can flash the ROM using either CWM 2.5.1.3 or CWM 3.0.0.5, it's entirely up to you. If you're coming from an older PNK release, you don't have to wipe. If you encounter any problems you might have to, though - so it's advised.
Flashing with CWM 3.0.0.5 (Download)
If by any chance you get into bootloops, download FULL-WIPE.zip from this thread, flash it, and then flash the ROM. If you're still getting bootloops follow these steps:
Go to recovery > Wipe Data > Advanced > Wipe Dalvik Cache > Flash FULL_WIPE.zip (which you downloaded earlier) > Flash the ROM.
Alternatively you can flash CWM 2.5.1.3 and read below.
Flashing with CWM 2.5.1.3(Download)
If you're using CWM2 to flash and you get bootloops, download FULL-WIPE.zip from this thread, flash it, and then flash the ROM. If you're still getting bootloops follow these steps:
Go to recovery > Wipe Data > Advanced > Wipe Dalvik Cache > Flash FULL_WIPE.zip (which you downloaded earlier) > Flash the ROM.
What's not working
- Camera Auto-Focus when shooting videos.
- Camera Touch-Focus when shooting pictures.
- Video playback 2/3 blue in portrait.

Help! When I flash this ROM and boot: the notification bar is missing / this app keeps FC'ing / I see flying turtles all over my 4.3" screen
YOU DIDN'T WIPE CORRECTLY. Please read this whole post again. And again. And again.
Especially if you're coming from a Sense ROM.
Help! USB Mass Storage isn't working!
If USB isn't working, follow this excellent guide by Walker Street.
Why does my keyboard show japanese characters?
Since the last few builds the keyboard defaults to the japanese one. Just long press in a text input field > Input Method > Select "Android Keyboard".
Quadrant doesn't show anything when running the 3D tests. What's going on?
At the moment, we're missing the Adreno 205 (DesireHD's GPU) library files for Gingerbread. When they're released the problems will be resolved, but for the time being I'm affraid you're going to have to live with it.
Why isn't WiFi working?
Just reboot your device and it'll work just fine! It happens when you flash the ROM for the first time.
Adfree isn't working! I get JavaIOExeption all the time.
You don't need Adfree. The builds comes with a preinstalled hosts file to block ads automatically. You don't need to install an additional application for this.
The Application "xyz" keeps force closing. Can you fix this?
First, make sure you wiped correctly, as stated earlier. This is really one of the most common reasons of getting a force close. If you're absolutely certain that you've wiped and clean-installed the ROM, please take a look at the market comments/description of the app that's forceclosing. Some applications have not been updated to work on Gingerbread (2.3).
How dare you remove the Sim Toolkit application? You should be ashamed of yourself!
Sorry! Some people claim it has a negative effect on battery life. If you really need it, you can find it here. Just push it to /system/app/ or copy it to your sdcard and install it using your favorite file manager.

Hey, been using this rom all day and its nice altough had some problems with youtube app, sometimes being unresponsive and force closed but was ok after a reboot but i really really like the smoothness
Anyway my question is, is there a way to get radio s-off? i tried with the "one click radio s-off" tool but it says that incompatible kernel because i want to flash another radio.
And maybe this is a bug?, at 95% charged(still connected) the Orange LEd switched to green led even if its not fully charged.
Keep up the good job.

I have no idea about the keyboard. That's how it's compiled from source, unfortunately. About the market, can't you see protected applications? I'm sorry, I didn't understand what the problem is.

Thank you very much kblof! I don't accept donations, as this ROM is based on CyanogenMod and it's not entirely my work.
Awesome! Downloading pnk8 now!!
Does anyone have a mirror btw...download is going super slow
Also, a quick question.
I'm currently using pnk6. I use a messaging app called Kakao Talk.
The app fc's whenever i receive a new message...any ideas why this is happening?
thanks!

That's because that app isn't updated to support gingerbread (according to market comments - also crashes on nexus s).

[ROM] (AOSP GINGERBREAD) ShadowMOD-BR v2.3.2b6 [2010-02-11]

This is a STRICTLY AOSP Gingerbread build for the Motorola Milestone.
Most of the credits goes to the amazing guys from CyanogenMod, nadlabak, f_pasha, mtwebster, rcerqueira, koush, MDijkstra, Skrilax_CZ, cvpcs and everyone else that had the patience to help me out figuring out how to put everything together.
To get it working for you, the baseband files for your region should be applied thru OpenRecovery as usual; you can get them at Dexter’s site: http://dext3r.komodin.org/.
Default language is set to PT-BR, change at the initial screen for your likings.
If you are currently using any Froyo release, you don’t need to do anything else, just copy the update to the OpenRecovery update folder and install as usual. If you’re not using any Froyo release, you need to apply a 2.2 SBF first.
Please note that FULL WIPE IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for new installations. If you're upgrading from any previous SMBR Gingerbread build, you only need to wipe caches.
CHANGELOG
Build 7:
- Updated to AOSP master branch, hundreds of bugfixes.
- Fixed some issues with wifi (props to nadlabak)
- Fixed color blending issues (mostly visible on scroll glow).
- Fixed some video recording issues, now uses h264/aac for high quality mode.
- Some changes on APN list for Brazilian carriers.
Build 6:
- More memory tuning. Now based on Google’s recommendation for low memory devices.
- Zipaligned all Google Apps
- Fixed light sensor (props to nadlabak)
- Disabled 3D drawer again (will provide as a separate patch)
- Added Nexus S wallpapers.
- Several other bugfixes that might result in crash of the phone.
Build 5:
- More memory tuning. This should fix a plethora of problems (browser downloads, market, notifications, and so on).
- Reverted to use a slightly older kernel (g4bc8ed0). Hopefully this will fix the reboots.
- 3D drawer is back due to popular demand.
- Enabled SIP over 3G networks.
- Removed some unnecessary libraries from the system (used only by Froyo).
- Fixed a couple of EGL issues. Nothing major.
Build 4:
- Skipped
Build 3:
- Fixed gps/compass (props to nadlabak)
- Fixed hires video recording (cvpcs)
- Massive memory tuning.
- JIT is disabled again -- yes, your linpack will suck, but you'll get much smoother experience overall.
- Disabled 3D drawer on Launcher2 -- too slow.
- Removed the OTA updater for now to save some memory.
Build 2:
- Fixed GMail/GReader breakage, now it works as expected.
- HSPA icon shows instead of just 3G.
- Screen off animation turned on.
- USB connected icon fixed.
- Some memory tuning done.
- Added full AOSP languages with dictionaries where available.
- Added full APN list based on CyanogenMod’s.
KNOWN BUGS
- Starting the camera using the hardware camera button unleashes hell.

How about the APAC nandroid? Or will it need to be a 2.2 sbf (latest one is the VIVO one right?)?
Bah downloading both anyway
APAC nandroid will do. Any working Froyo release works. We just need the VR and the basic 2.2 partitions.
wow.. good news , does radio/gsm work??
reveiw please....
omg!
everytime i finish setting up and install everything someone comes out with new irresistible release...
downloading right now
so? how is it?
this is a great thing to start the day with..
downloading .....
And so it begins..! Gingerbread on Milestone!!
Just a question though: Has the problem with the GSM Radio been solved? Because if we can't make calls, the ROM is only for those who use Milestone as their secondary phone.
Yes, the radio is working.

Congratulations to all those who are responsible for this, who made Gingerbread available for all Milestone users.
Great job guys, will be looking for Gingerbread Development from now on!
Edgar, just another question if you have the time explaining me the following:
Although I've read the first post about Basebands, because I've never done it before, I don't know how to do it..
What should I do through OpenRecovery to have a working phone in Europe (Greece)?
Thank you for your time.
Any reviews? Problems? I wanna know what are the bugs before I flash this.

Its exactly the same steps as to install the ROM, you just need to put the update zip at OpenRecovery update folder and apply it.
For Greece, the correct baseband is this one:

Damn, it's a great rom.. too bad gmail keeps reloading when opening a mail (or do you think reflashing will solve this?)

[CM9][Q&A]CyanogenMod9 General|DISCUSSION THREAD.

Looks like the developement thread of our CM9 is all messed up as noobs filled the thread with ETA's and questions.
DEVELOPEMENT THREAD- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1449649
I've created this thread for general suggestions and questions and answers.people can put the useful links(for developement) over here(by links i mean any updates in the drivers or anything else for the developement not just anything you found on the internet )
You still aren't allowed to ask for ETA's in either of the thread.this is just for questions and answers and NON-DEVELOPEMENTAL talks.
KNOWN ISSUES:
1. WIFI doesn't work perfectly. You will not be able to see any networks when you first turn it on. Add a fake network manually and the wifi networks will show up. Also, network strength doesn't work properly.
2. There is LAG in the UI due to lack of Hardware Composer. Waiting for drivers from TI.
3. Mass Storage won't work for now. It requires 3.0 Kernel to support the framework changes in ICS for UMS. To copy files to the device, use http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1389375 or mount the Mass Storage in Recovery Mode.
4. Backlight button doesn't work when Autobrightness is turned off.
5. Microphone doesn't record properly (Regression in Alpha 4).
6. Camera Force Closes sometimes while capturing the image.
7. Front Facing camera is stretched and is Mirrored at times.
8. Few third party Camera applications are incompatible. (They get stuck)
What Doesn't Work
Video Recording
Media Playback H/W Support
USB Mass Storage Support

How To Install
CM9 converts filesystem to ext4 because of which your internal SD card will be formatted while flashing.so make a backup of your files on your PC before flashing.
flashing CM9 doesn't require any specific official update(like kpu or anything else). It requires rooted phone along with a CWM app.you can flash CM9 from any official GINGERBREAD update(like kpu,kpq,kp3 etc...) AS LONG AS IT IS ROOTED AND HAS A WORKING CWM APP

right .
some new user ask again and again about the ETA
never mind
Finally great! Now there should be less OT from now on, there cant be 0 OT, every once in a while some people will just choose to make another OT in the dev thread...

No, seriously, if a noob say a question like, when is the release? or... did you fix video? don't reply in the thread, because doing that you only make the thread more and more unuseful for the developer. When somebody say something like that please kick your brother / wall or whatever but please DON'T REPLY!

Normally it works perfectly, but if I connect my SAGA to the usb charger the LED doesn't blink in case of notification. If I disconnect USB cable it starts to work properly.
In a previous ROM (MK44.4-saga-201408091429-UNOFFICIAL) I haven't encountered this probem .. I have to change some settings?
Thank you so much
Andrea

New build announcement
Well, i've just solved all of issues within sources (saga manifest)!!!!
Now will be much easier to customize the builds and solve a lot of issues!!!
Also, now is possible to build everyday nightlies! Be patient... please.
Thanks to OpenDesireProject (forked CameraParameters.cpp & some other stuff...)
Some features which will be included into next (WINTER) build:
RadioFM app...? (awaiting response/permission from original app dev.)
TextSecure messaging (recompiled from source)
Enabled CallRecorder option in stock dialer (testing now)
Lot of Serbian language strings added/translated in UI
"Calm" kernel as default (1024MHz)
Some more icon changes (white dialer&sms icon)
Updated busybox&su
Some of reported issues are fixed
Enabled additional features in SMS app
& more...
Testing ROM (i'm using it just now), seems to be even much faster, stable & smoother than latest one...:good:
Soon...
In attachments: some raw preview screenshots...

1. It happens when ROM.zip isn't completly copied to the SD card.
Please, try again to copy .zip to the card...
2. Update your recovery to one that is compatible with new recovery functions. See the list below.
4EXT Recovery Touch v1.0.0.6 RC 3
TWRP 2.8.0.0 SAGA
1600 mAh ..
Is it possible to add for 1600 mAh ... Many thanks for kind contributions ...
