[Q] Will it be possible to port ATT galaxy note roms? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I have a feeling that the note will have a ton of development. You guys think it will be easy to port roms for that device to ours? Same or similar chipset i think.

may not be very easy considering the resolution changes. i remember porting from sensation to inspire was rather difficult because of the resolution differences within Sense apps. it might wind up being easier for sammy devices though

I wonder if adjusting the DPI settings on the i727 will make it possible.

That's the main reason i got rid of my Captivate and bought a 9100, always having to wait for someone to make a rom that would work on it, meanwhile everyone on their 9000 had it. Makes it worth every penny to not be locked to a carrier locked phone.
I want the Note just waiting to see how big it actually is in my hand
And then if I like it goings for the Intl version as its already been rooted Rom'ed etc.

Anyone know if the ATT refurb centers are open tomorrow? Can potentially kill three birds with one brick trying this out. (See what I did there? haha)

[Q] Galaxy Note ICS much different from i727?

So "Android Guys" has an article saying there may be a leaked Samsung ICS for the Note... Since the Note is also selling (here in Canada at least) as an LTE, and has the same processor, should that mean it's compatable with our phones?
Any Developers got their hands on it and tweaking for whatever differences (pen and resolution are about the only ones I can see in comparisons) there are between it and i727/i727R? <-- this part is the question ;-)
Hoping it might mean a solid ICS is "right around the corner"... I don't want to wait for a Rogers specific version, they usually take several extra months and have a bucket o' bloatware tossed in that takes a while to identify and freeze.

which is likely to have strongest ROM community?

Which do people think will have the strongest ROM community between the HTC One X & The Galaxy S III?
ROM options are a strong factor in deciding what phone to get next.

You can unlock it using the official HTC Dev website - alot of issues at the moment as the site states it MAY void your warranty but to consumers themselves they stated that it WILL. Even though people are trying to return handsets because of faulty issues unrelated to bootloader or custom roms.

SGS3
Samsung phones are definetly more widespread than HTC phones. Most people just stay with their current brand...
Definitely SGS3. It may not sell as well as the predecessor but it will definitely sell millions, and that's what matters.
hi
it really depends, on which phone sells, and in what numbers.. the more numbers they sell the more bigger and better ROM community. I would say wait for a few months after release and see which phone sells better.
the GSII/9100 was probably the first BIG-SELL for a non-iphone, and hence has a big community, and is still selling...
I really doubt if GSIII would equal the success of the GSII, as most people still have the GSII with them. The only folks who will buy it are the older phone owners.
also, I read somewhere Samsung chose to use a inferior-performance-quad processor over a superior-performance-dual-core for marketing reasons, and probably to recover some costs over its quad-core development, so at least I am going to wait and watch for a while, and am not sure how many of us here share my perspective...
Anyways... enjoying wanamlite+siyah3.1.2 on my gsII for now...

Destroyed my smartphone; what phone should I replace it with?

So, I completely blanked while at the beach and walked my Motorola Atrix into the sea. That means I'm on the hunt for a new smartphone - the dumbphone I have right now is driving me crazy. What's the best phone I can get on AT&T without spending more than 200 bucks? I don't mind buying used or refurbished phones.

Buy a second hand samsung galaxy S1. Samsung still brings out updates for these phones and works pretty fast. Or load a custom rom with ICS and your done. Maybe you can buy a S2, not sure if it is under 200.
browse second hands phones keep looking at price/performance. maybe desire S will be good for you, i have this phone and i am really happy with it
Re: Appreciate it
Thanks for all the suggestions, guys (and I kinda forgot I posted on here for a while - explains why I busted my phone). So, two things then.
First off, I'm sort of looking for something that could specifically run MIUI, CM9, has a less frustrating bootloader than the Atrix (though mine was unlocked at the time it was destroyed), and will have ICS already or in the near future. I looked on the Gazelle eBay store and they had some stuff that looked decent but not awesome.
On a different note, I'm open to getting a WP7 phone that can dual boot Android. Is the HTC HD2 the only phone that can do that? I'd be okay with the HD2, but I'm pretty sure it would only run 2G after unlocking it on AT&T's network.
Buy a htc incredible s or samsung galaxy 2 or 3 but make sure u get something that suits ur needs, maybe write down a check list of things u want out of a phone and find one that way. All the best

I went from an Atrix to a Samsung Galaxy note and now every other phone out there just looks too small. I thought the note looked huge when I first got it but now it just seems normal. Never going back to a small phone!
Probably going to get this...
After a bit of research, I've decided that I'll probably just get the Motorola Photon and unlock it. It seems like the best alternative to the Atrix. My main complaints were not enough work on CM7/9 and MIUI, both of which the Photon has. And the bootloader and root are pretty easy to unlock, too. Are there any other comparable alternatives?

HTC Sensation XE is a brilliant phone. It has ics, beats audio and vibrant custom rom forums. It is cheaper than a one x and better value IMHO.If you must have a Motorola then the Photon is okay, not much of an upgrade though.

Galaxy S Relay 4G Development Thread

So it seems my thread questioning about anyone getting the Relay has turned in the the Dev thread for it since for some reason XDA doesnt want to make a thread dedicated to it. I personally ended up buying a Note 2 which is why I dont follow this thread anymore but I just recieved a PM saying the thread was moved so I figured I would change the title of the thread from "Any one planning on getting the Galaxy Relay 4G" to "Galaxy S Relay 4G Development Thread".
Definitely looking into a replacement for my G2, haven't really seen anything convincing thusfar. With a S4, this just might do it.

Thats what im thinking. I hope that the rumor of a 5mp camera is wrong and it ends up being an 8mp but even if it is a 5 as long as it has a good sensor and flash ill be happy. So far it seems it will basically be a Galaxy S3 with a 4" screen and a QWERTY minus 1GB ram which really doesnt matter. Ive never owned a samsung before but i guess they are really easy to root with a program from samsung called odin. Hopefully CM will be supporting it.
Either way, it could be the next best upgrade for Desire Z owners. Especially with so many discouraged people with HTC and their policy's. They can keep them, and their phones. No ICS update, not even for related phones where we could bum the driver over. Not to forget how locked down the phone is. Plus Samsung phones are more consistant.

Yeah Samsung seems to be the way to go these days. HTC locks their bootloaders, both HTC and LG dont provide updates, Sony phones are just not even close to the competition. Samsung provides the ODIN program so you can do what you please with what you paid for plus it seems they are providing pretty decent updates with the S2 and Note both year old devices getting Jelly been. Where my year old G2x is still on GB.
I definitely plan to replace my wife's G2 with the Relay. I've had a Vibrant and now the TMO GS2, I love working with Samsung phones, much easier.
Only if confirmed specs come out. Some new phones that aren't super popular are getting outdated specs like the new mytouch lines by huawei

Yeah those new mytouch phones phones had been rumored for awhile now and the specs of them were outed well before they even came out i mean really a single core phone? Where going to be seeing quad core phones in the states soon
The only tmo mytouch that wasnt terrible was the first one. I had the slide and it was ok but had a locked bootloader and the genuis button is so stupid, never would buy another mytouch. I was really hoping that those rumors of a G3 were true but hopefully this Relay will turn out to be a great phone.
Hot dang that looks promising! Although I do love my g2 it'd be nice to have decent specs

I'd rather pierce my lip with a rusty nail than use a keyboard made by Samsung.
Or Touchwiz for that matter, at least that mistake of an interface can be fixed with another ROM. Just sayin.

The keyboard looks nice to me, who knows how it will feel since no one has tried it yet. I agree with the touch wiz but im hoping cm will support it.
What's the problem with Samsung keyboards?
HTC keyboards are the only ones I've liked. The spacing, depth of key press, and layout are the only ones that I've cared to use. Everything else I've tried feels like I'm using something cheaply made.

I think I'll wait for October. That's when my G1 & G2 came out. If October comes without any solid information on a G3, then I'll migrate over to whatever the next Nexus device might be.

Either way I'm waiting for my T-Mobile contract to end. Once that happens, I'm going to give T-Mobile a decision to make. Either give me a new phone of my choosing, or I switch carriers. A lot of my friends do this, and they end up with a brand new phone, like Samsung Galaxy S3's, but they're out of contract and desperate to keep you in it.
Carriers tend to give new contracts better deals for phones then those who just got their upgrade. Also, there's a lot of other carriers who offer a lot more for less then the big US carriers.

Idk man id love to see a G3 as much as anyone else here but I dont see it happening especially with the stupid G4x thats going to be coming to tmobile. It wouldnt make sense for them to release a phone named G4x and then a phone named G3. G4x will be just as garbage as the G2x, it will have awesome hardware and a quad core but will have no software support from LG or NVidia.
Do you guys think it will work in sweden? Then someone needs to send me one. Htc can **** off now. To bad i dont like samsung build quality and feel. To plasticky

With Swype beta I don't really need physical QWERTY anymore. I'm just waiting for next nexus phone(s).

Looks like an s3 with a keyboard, beautiful.
More pics released! Im feeling it. Hopefully it gets CM support and the power button can be mapped for the camera.

Which phone would you choose in this position?

Hello, I am new to this forum but I do already have a android phone which is the samsung vibrant, and I am thinking that it is time to switch, after Samsung left me and the other vibrant owners behind I decided to get a new phone, I have done some studying on this so far and found the Galaxy Nexus from the Google Play Store for $350, this is a really good price for what I want to pay, but also there is another phone called the HTC One S and I am able to get the HTC One S in the same price range, I am not sure which cellphone I should choose between these two, I would like to know which phone that you would choose in my position. The Galaxy Nexus HSPA+ or the HTC One S, and also if there are any other android phones that are even than these two I have listed with good specifications It would be very much appreciated if you could share it too.
Thank You.
A lot of it depends on preference. The nexus is stock android and will get updates faster than any other phone. And it's great if your going to be installing custom roms. The HTC has sense on top of android which some people like and some people don't. The Samsung galaxy s3 is also available with their touchwiz software and that has solid specs as well.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
Between those two I'd definitely get the Nexus. Far easier to customize and definitely not a phone that will be getting left behind on updates.
If you are fan of HTC 's sense then go for one s.

The one s is a good phone, so is the nexus and one s. The g note seems good too, but not everyone has abandoned the vibrant, I have one running on jellybean because of the awesome dev community. Anyway good luck.

I love my gnex and I chose it over the SIII because of google support ! I will only buy nexus devices from now on; I've always had Samsung devices, but didn't like touchwiz, and the fact that I had to wait 8 months to get ics on my tablet, and even now the ui is still laggy in some situation.
That made loose faith in manifacturers, but I've never owned a HTC device to be honest.
I like android and I like it pure, but that's just my opinion anyway.
It really depends on what you plan to do with the device. If you plan to install ROM's, there is plenty of dev work going on around the One S. While it isn't as much as the Nexus, it is still impressive. The camera on the One S is surely better. If you want to stick the the OS that comes pre-loaded, it depends on what your preference is. Do you like the stock Android feel or prefer Sense ? Answer those questions and you will know which cell to buy. :good:
As somebody else advised me, the only selling point of the nexus is the fact that they recieve updates faster. And with xda updates are never a problem. The htc one s is renowned for it s build quality. I would advise you to get that one.
Nexus has bigger screen with more pixels, one x space is taken by permanent hardware buttons. I love soft-buttons for their moddability, though this depends on your tastes of course.
Nexus likely has more deving in general, as a rule.
Normally I would suggest waiting for new stuff, as it seems we're on the cusp, but you want this price point so.
Thank You all for responding, I am leaning more towards the nexus because I really do like to receive updates right away I like to keep my phone on stock but have never tried a ROM, I would probably try a ROM later but the one s has a sleek and nice slim design which really interests me, I am not sure about HTC Sense because I have never used it, but maybe it will be sort of the same as touchwiz as I am used to that. I also might just wait till November since I hear a new galaxy nexus is coming out, maybe even some more phones in that time, Thanks again for the help!
Nexus in my opinion mostly because I prefer the look and feel of the device but the updates will come pretty quick from google and the developers for the nexus phones are great.
have always been a fan of HTC phones until they released the EVO LTE on sprint with a non-removable battery. Not sure if the One S has a removable battery or not, but for me that is a deal breaker. Have also heard really good things about the Nexus. Also like others have said, you will get updates and more customization on the nexus.
I would choose Galaxy nexus becouse it has 4.3 inch display.
Well the nexus has that stock android feel and the one s has the sense ui its all up to preference
