It lasts forever (flashing roms will not re-lock it, rebooting will not re-lock it, etc). For the most part, no, modifications are not made to the OS of the device.
great news thanks

Hi all. I don't want to come off as a total noob, but I'm sorry if I do. I have a Motorola Razr V XT885 with Bell Mobility in Canada. I've searched the web for a way of rooting and unlocking the bootloader on my device and have found little to no help. I know this isn't a popular phone as it's only available in Canada and some parts of Asia, but is there a way to root and unlock the bootloader? From the sounds of things there isn't a Jellybean update coming any time soon and I would really like to flash a custom rom on this thing. Any help would be appreciated. thanks.

I figured out how to get custom recovery, you download Boot Menu Manager from the market it works perfect, I managed to boot up a XT910 ROM on it but lots of bugs as its not for our phone, just need a smart person to make us up a ROM
Worked for my XT885. Thanks
So recently i bought an HTC One S with an S3 processor which its country is of Asia. I am currently at europe. I still am on Android 4.0.3 and there doesnt seem to be an update for my phone. Now i know that 4.0.4 and also JB are rolling out, but not for my device. Is there anything I can do to solve this ?
Thanks
I live in a country where HTC sell the S3 processor only. I had my cousin sent me HOS from US, big difference.
You might want to trade for an S4 though.
In the meantime you can search the development forum and look for an S3 ROM.
Not many but there are some.

HOS stands for Htc One S and a Rom is basically an operating system for your device that is nothing like stock, has tweaks here and there things that stock doesnt, and if you root you will.still be able to receive updates but you have to relock the phone and some other things I can't remember then you can apply the update, basically you can't apply update to a rooted phone its just gonna give you and installation error then reboot your phone I think but that's basically it for your questions, hopefully it was helpful to you
T-Mobile HTC one s
Htc one S
Thanks for the information !
A friend told me that if i root the phone i can change my firmware from Asia to Europe where i live so that i can recieve updates accordingly to my phone. Is this true ?
Also is there a detailed noob instructions for me to follow and learn more about rooting the phone and installing customs ROMS etc. ?
Thanks

If you root, you can manually install all sorts of fun stuff. I think if you want to remain as close to stock and receive "official" updates, super cid is something you might wanna read about. There's a thread in the Dev Section by Torxx that I used to root my S4 you might wanna look over and see if that's for you. Make sure everything you decide to do is compatible with your S3 first though.
Edit: there's also another guide in the general section

Change cid number to 11111 and start then RUU_Ville_U_ICS_40_S_HTC_Europe_2.31.401.5_Radio_1.06es.50.02.31_10.09a.50.04L_release_275655_signed. That RUU is universal for europe. Explanation of how to change cid numer you have someware on forums, also RUU you will find in section of where is RUU. That is safest way whit out rooting

Once a phone is unlocked it remains unlocked permanently. Even if you change the ROM you do not need to buy a new code, the same code works, but as far as I know that won't be necessary. Please check your PM.
ARHD? That ROM isn't available for the Evita. You're either in the wrong forums or looking at the wrong ROM for your phone. If you flash an international ROM on the S4 One XL/Evita, you're going to hard brick the phone.
SIM lock survives ROM flashing. Check out the FAQ stickied to top of General, and my Index thread at top if Development for more on how to unlock bootloader, etc.

Remember you still need to use a sense rom to unlock then you can flash aosp, unless that doesnt apply to the endeavoru.

I have a few questions that desperately need answers. (1) Is there a custom iOS ROM for the HTC One A9 (Sprint)? I've found a few for other phones but none specifically for the A9. Does anybody know if there is a ROM out there compatible with the A9 or even better for the A9 specifically? This is my first time doing something this complicated with my phone, so if you guys have ANY suggestions for ANYTHING with this Time-consuming project, please feel free to let me know. I am almost finished with unlocking the boot loader and want to be prepared before i go through with this.
(2) Is there any other OS i could use besides this if it is not out there or doesn't work?
Thanks,
Ethan
there are only 2 "real" options for a custom rom on the a9 .. first one is dev build from wonders_never_cease , but this one is only for us (converted .. so s-off) phones
and then there is LOS 14.1 if u want my opinion .. go with Lineage, it's works really good on the A9 (beside some small issues).
Ok thx a lot! I really appreciate it! ?
