I understand on this phone there is three options for keyboards, android-samsung-swype, the Samsung and swype have a feature in the settings to view and edit your custom word dictionary that you have created, I personally use the android keyboard so I lack that option or does someone know how I can access the word dictionary?

Why don't you get the ICS keyboard from the Market? There's two versions, one free & one paid. They're both pretty good. You can access the dictionary in the paid version for sure... can't remember if you can in the free one.

But if when texting it gives you the option to save a new word there has to be a accessible dictionary

There is a user dictionary in the ICS keyboard. You can access it.

Hey guys, I'm not affiliated with these guys in any way but you really should check out perfect keyboard free.. the height is adjustable and it has a split layout for landscape mode with the numbers in the middle.. I just ran across it today and love it! Its a perfect keyboard for the tab.

That is a good keyboard, I've tried it on my Tab!... I actually prefer to use Thumb Keyboard now, its got several different layouts and great themes!

Same here, Thumb Keyboard is the best on the Tab. It has good options:
- Split keyboard with numbers in the middle,
- small keyboard in the corner for 1 hand use..
and much more good ones.
SwiftKey X tablet ftw.

+1. Use it for a month and you'll be writing most of your sentences with just the space bar

I use a logitek bluetooth keyboard with mouse pad on it, it works good, but usually i'm not thinking it about using it, as it's easier to use the keypad on the tab itself.
Been using thumbkeyboard for a while now and it is very nice. Fully customizable according to your need and nice layout especially for tab user by holding it with both hand and typing with the thumb.
I have been using smart keyboard pro and its the only keyboard so far without the ddoouubbllee lleetteerriinngg bugz

I use smart keyboard pro as well, but would really like a landscape thumbmode. Does anyone know if they plan on releasing an updated tab version.

Me too
I tried many keyboards but I returned to the original Samsung one.
I tried it too and its awesome but there isn't that big of a difference to the gingerbread keyboard which works like a charm
Basically every keyboard is better than the one samsung provides

I've downloaded swype but restored it through tb. But I can't switch to it. How do I access the switch input?
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
If you want swype then go to settings>keyboard>choose HTC input then check the trace type. Congratulations now you have swype
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
I prefer Swype over trace myself it should be setting/keyboards it has an on/off button after you choose on tap on Swype and set it as default of you don't see these options reinstall
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Cool, but to be honest I have used swype on a Samsung galaxy tab 10.1 and I use trace on my HTC one s and I don't see or notice any differences.
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
It's cool I used them both also I just prefer Swype I agree there not much if any difference I am using themed version in my Gnex on the One S using Swype beta
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
on gingerbread I could hold down on any text field and an input method would appear. Trace I very inaccurate. It's not as intuitive as Swype. And it looks ugly. I had you reinstall it. Thanks people.

Can somebody please tell me how to totally disable this crippling ****. At least one could understand me if my own personal misspellings weren't transformed into words. Can we teach this phone the meaning of context clues???
Sent from my SCH-I405 using xda premium
Autocorrect is based on the keyboard you are using. For example, Swiftkey has amazing autocorrect and text prediction, and some keyboards don't even have autocorrect.
Sent from my DROID2 using xda premium
Smart keyboard works best for me. When ever the auto correct chg my words I just backspace and it undo the change.
Sent from my Desire S
+1 for Smart Keyboard
so it there a keyboard out there with absolutely no autocorrect function. at all? even when i turn it all off in settings it still changes my spelling. most irritating
Sent from my SCH-I405 using xda premium
U can disable auto correct. Haven't met one that u can't. Even on stock u can disable.

Installed and running it now. Not a bad alternative to swype. Interested when this might be fully supported so that library additions stick.

It actually feels smoother and faster than swype.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
Only thing I miss is being able to swype up or down for punctuation. Or long press etc. But I love the way the word shows up as you swype!

I wouldn't say one is better than the other. Their differences are strongly compelling advantages. I could see this becoming better than swype in time though with integration into the realtime language structure engine.

When I type don't the spell checker inserts Dont. I have tried to clear personal dictionary and looked for other possible ways to get the proper correction.
Any ideas?

I would either try and add 'Don't' to your personal dictionary or checking to see if you have the appropriate dictionaries download int he app. Worst come to worse; try clearing data and starting over...
