[REQ] Testers for Vanilla Bean Rom

I am bringing my Vanilla Bean Rom to the Samsung Charge and I need a couple brave testers that are willing to find some bugs and give me some feedback before it goes mainstream...
What the rom is:
1) EE4 Based
2) Debloated, Deodexed, Zipaligned
3) Removed Some TW, but kept camera, email, music, mms, contacts and puzzle lock. but there will be an option to remove these and replace them with AOSP versions...all but camera and contacts
4) Rooted and has busybox already installed
5) Themed like stock froyo
6) Uses ADW launcher because it has several very nice features that I like
7) Accurate Battery Mod
8) Advanced Power menu
How to flash:
1) Reboot into Recovery
2) Make a NAND backup
3) Wipe data, cache, and dalvik
4) Flash the rom
-Please just leave a note here for me and let me know if you are willing to be a guinea pig so to speak. I will PM you the link for the Beta download.
-This thread will be used for Tester requests for all further roms that I develope...I have 5 roms for the TBolt, and think I might be making and maintaining several for this phone as well..

[Q&A] Infused v2 ROM

Notice:
This thread is for general questions regarding Infused v2.
READ CAREFULLY - NEED TO KNOW INFORMATION:
1) Infused v2 is not currently available through ROM Manager. Please be patient.
2) Do NOT restore system data with Titanium Backup. Do NOT restore ALL apps with data. If you absolutely must restore something with Titanium Backup, only restore MISSING apps with data.
Tips and answers to common questions:
1) Animations are disabled by default. Enable them by going to Settings > Display > Animation and selecting "All Animations". If you don't do this, you won't see the CRT screen off animation!
2) If your GPS isn't locking, try this: Go to the phone app and dial *#*#3214789650#*#*. The Angry GPS configuration app will open. Clear GPS data and back out. It may help to reboot after doing that as well.
3) If the power widget isn't working and shows no icons, simply toggling something like GPS in the notification pulldown will fix it. This doesn't seem to be something I caused, but rather a bug in the Rogers shipping ROM. I believe a lot of Galaxy S Gingerbread builds have this problem as well, so it's a Samsung trademark.
Known ROM issues:
-No HDMI support. It was not present in the Rogers base ROM.
-The default lockscreen is a bit laggy. Again, the Rogers base ROM shipped this way. Use the AOSP lockscreen addon or WidgetLocker if you can't stand it.
-HSPA+ may not work properly in all areas.
ROM Manager Installation Instructions:
1) You must be rooted.
2) If you have a /Voodoo folder on your internal SD card, delete it and reboot.
3) If you're already running a custom ROM with Voodoo lagfix FULLY enabled, you can skip to step 7.
4) Download CWM-community-kernel-v8.zip if you're on Froyo or CWM-infused-v2.0.1-kernel.zip if you're on Gingerbread and place it on your internal SD card.
5) Install SGS Kernel Flasher from the Market.
6) Open SGS Kernel Flasher, select choose kernel, select the file you downloaded, and select flash kernel. Your phone will reboot and begin to enable Voodoo lagfix. Let it do that and boot all the way up. It will take a while (5-10 minutes) because it's converting all partitions to ext4.
7) If you're on Froyo, you must now install a file explorer like Root Explorer from the Market and use it to delete the file /system/bin/recovery. You will need to hit the "Mount R/W" button in Root Explorer before it will let you delete it. I can't stress this enough... you MUST MUST MUST delete that file before continuing or else you will get boot loops!
8) Now install ROM Manager from the Market and open it.
9) Select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" and choose "Galaxy S i9000".
10) Now go to "Download ROM", select my section (gtg465x), select the latest Infused V2 release, and hit the download button.
11) At the "Installation Type" prompt, select full.
12) Select the addons you wish to install and then wait for ROM Manager to download the ROM. There is a note at the bottom of this post about which addons are not compatible with each other.
13) When you get to the "ROM Pre-Installation" prompt, you MUST check "Wipe Data and Cache" unless you're coming from Infused V2 BETA 1.
14) Press OK. Your phone will reboot and automatically install the ROM. Just sit back and relax.
15) Do NOT restore system data with Titanium Backup. Do NOT restore ALL apps with data. If you absolutely must restore something with Titanium Backup, only restore MISSING apps with data.
CWM Installation Instructions:
7) Download update-infused-v2.X.X-full.zip and place it on your internal SD card.
8) Power off your phone.
9) With the phone powered off, hold both volume keys and the power button for about 10 seconds and then release. This should boot you into RED CWM.
10) Select "install zip from sdcard" and select update-infused-v2.X.X-full.zip.
11) Once that finishes, select "wipe data/factory reset".
12) Select "reboot system now".
13) Do NOT restore system data with Titanium Backup. Do NOT restore ALL apps with data. If you absolutely must restore something with Titanium Backup, only restore MISSING apps with data.
Installing addons:
1) Install ROM Manager from the Market and open it.
2) Select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" and choose "Galaxy S i9000".
3) Now go to "Download ROM", select my section (gtg465x), select the latest Infused V2 release, and hit the download button.
4) At the "Installation Type" prompt, select "Addons only".
5) Select the addons you wish to install and then wait for ROM Manager to download them. There is a note at the bottom of this post about which addons are not compatible with each other.
6) When you get to the "ROM Pre-Installation" prompt, you can uncheck "Wipe Dalvik Cache" and press OK.
7) Your phone will reboot and automatically install the addons. Just sit back and relax.
Note about addons: The only overscroll addon that is compatible with "Disable CM7 style battery w/ percent" is "Change overscroll from bounce to glow (AOSP yellow)", and for that to work you need to flash "Change overscroll from bounce to glow (AOSP yellow)" first. "Change overscroll from bounce to glow (Samsung blue)" and "Disable all overscroll effects" will not work with "Disable CM7 style battery w/ percent".
3e recovery
in your infused v1 there is step for modded 3e recovery which i believe is pre-requisite before getting CWM so with v2 whether modded 3e recovery is required, right?

No, if you follow the CWM installation instructions then modified 3e recovery is not required. Flashing a kernel that includes CWM in steps 4 through 6 bypasses the need to install modified 3e recovery.
Love the Rom---HSPA????
ok am on 2.0.3 - Good look.
running GB kernel 1.0
everything is stable and fine now for almost a week.
Data speeds are great either way BUT......
only question i have is concerning HSPA i read the fix for it. but even after another install and the fix again it still does not show up. i have a Cappy as well running Miui 1.8.5 with the Glitch Kernel and it gets HSPA no prob all the time. so i dont think its the area.
any ideas. again i get a consistent 3.5-4 mbps either way, im just curious
Is your links back up in rom manager?
*Edit*Ignore this question.

The mobile network type listed in Settings > About phone > Status is next to useless. There was a bug in our stock Froyo ROM that caused it to show UMTS there when you were actually on HSPA+. For Gingerbread, we have no clue what it should or shouldn't be displaying there.

Just an FYI... v2.0.4 may be no better than v2.0.1. In fact, if it doesn't fix HSPA+, it could actually be worse if battery life degrades as well. There have been no real improvements since v2.0.1... just attempts to fix HSPA+. If you're happy with your network speeds on v2.0.1, I recommend staying there for now.
n00b alert!!!
how do i add the add-ons through CWM since the links are down on rom manager? thx

good to know. oddly enough...mine did not change to umts until flashing 2.0.4
xtreemlabs test results also previously showed connection type as EDGE on previous builds...but as of 2.0.4 it has changed to 3g.
currently trying to find a network widget that is at least somewhat accurate in reporting the connection type.
Hey gtg, when ever I use the infused rom, my battery life always takes a nose dive. Its not that great on stock either. You think its my phone battery or something with the rom? If it is any fixes? I love using the rom, just the battery drain kills me every time.
addons and cwm
Can the addons be installed using red cwm? Since the zips can be downloaded from the infused devel thread...and in the past I've used rom mgr seems like it just uses cwm anyway...
I can't get a list of addons (assuming there is one, that is) when clicking gtg in rom mgr. Seems like I read gtg took down the rom list so that may explain the error I get when using rom mgr. Tia.

Hey Gtg, I'm running 2.0.0 currently and I'd like to upgrade to 2.0.1, but
I can only find the full version. Do you have a link to the smaller, upgrade version anywhere?
Stickied.
ok loaded up 2.0.4 and have tested the network speeds, they maybe a lil more consistant. i was looking as
3.9 - 1.8
4.6 - 1.2
4.3 - .8
5.6 - 1.6
3.6 - 1.0
on the new rom with speedtest.net.
can say that those results where better or at least more consistent than when i was on 2.0.3.

1) Sometimes GB will go nuts on your battery, try rebooting.
2) If this doesn't fix it, try seeing if disabling wifi changes things. Some people have experienced a weird issue where wifi being on kills the battery. Unfortunately it doesn't affect everyone, and so far doesn't seem to have affected any devs which makes it a pain to debug.
Would it be possible to get working version of Buddies NOw for this ROM?
Just wondering if I'm going from infused froyo to gb if I have to redo cwm and root and rom manager or just do I from cwm and just flash and then just get rom manager and I'm sure the rom is rooted already so that will be fine. Just want to make sure what needs to be done. If some one can let me know I'd appreciate it. Thank you in advance...

LBC Mod 0.6 - Anyone installed Sense 3 3D Launcher?

I really need to be able to post in the development section but sadly this forum doesn't allow it for noobs.
I did the following:
Flashed the LBC Wipe zip
Flashed LBC 0.6
Ran through the setup procedure
Ran Titanium Backup to restore previous apps
Flashed Sense 3 3D launcher
After than the phone gets stuck at the green android animation. If i press the power button it will do the CRT animation and turn the screen off. Likewise if I press it again i see the CRT animation on the android animation comes back.
This suggests that the phone is trying to load sense but is getting stuck. Can someone raise the question for the correct order to install it in the development section?
Thankfully I have managed to restore back to base LBC 0.6 so it isn't an urgent matter.
Thanks.
Another thing i noticed is that when I run the Market for the first time, it seems to automatically install a number of apps that have been removed from this rom such as maps.
Is there any way to stop it from happening?

Google backups and synchronises settings (including apps) to your Google account. Whenever I add a Google account in a fresh ROM it also starts downloading the apps I've previously had. There should be an option to disable this in settings. If I remember correctly, you can choose this during the initial setup.

(Opps, Must add that if you use EXT4 recovery and the associated APK recently released then remove the APK for it from the LBC v0.6.0 ZIP file and ensure that you un-install the program (not recovery) from your v0.5.4 system once you've restored it as the program was going through several pre beta releases and fails to upgrade after v0.6.0 install otherwise).
I detailed my install order HERE. Now if you don't have a v0.5.4 backup, I'd say simply run a full wipe and then proceed in the order that I did.
Even though my stages above don't mention the 3d rosie that's as I personally don't like it, but don't fear I did try it. I followed the steps above, then rebooted the device , setup as per normal then rebooted back to RECOVERY took a backup..(as didn't want to go through that process again!) and then flashed the 3D Launcher.ZIP to try it out - which I did but choose to revert to the backup as it wasn't for me!
Good luck.

This is my first ROM release. I have collected all software from this forum and assembled it to build a stable fast ROM from official SBF.

Download Latest PopcornV2.5 - http://ge.tt/8J61ppO/v/0?c
Extract the PopcornV2.5.zip to your SD card under the folder /clockworkmod/backup/PopcornV2.5. Remember that when you unzip it , you do not have two folders like /PopcornV2.5/PopcornV2.5
Restart the phone it will go in to boot menu or you can press vol - button when you see the blue led light.
Select Recovery-->Custom Recovery
Wipe only Data
In backup and restore, select restore and select the folder PopcornV2.5 and restore it
Wipe Cache

Reboot. Once you reboot wait for a while to restart. Once you see the welcome page, try not to skip the initial wizard and connect using 3G or 2G and complete the initial Google registration. This will enable the backup and restore to work smoothly. If you have no APNs during this, click the 4 square icon of your phone to add APN.
Let the phone complete the sync. Start the Market and let it be on for 5-10 minutes to update itself.
Again restart the phone it will go in to boot menu or you can press vol - button when you see the blue led light.
Optional -- Select System-->UnRooting. This will unroot your defy. If you wish to keep root, do not do this step.

I have tried to include softwares which are practically needed and removed all other softwares which are not needed by an average user who need stable ROM and Fast ROM. Also anytime you can go back to original rom if you need to claim warranty.
Also this is for GREEN Lens & Red Lens

Good thanks any plans on upgrading froyo to gingerbread?
How did you test and therefore claim it is the fastest rom?
There is no test. But this is my observation with so many roms of Froyo and Gingerbread.
After comparing both the OS, I found froyo to be more stable on Defy and hence worked out this rom.
I tested this on quadrant score of 1393 and the GPS fix is done in 9 seconds
the camera gets the location in 3 seconds... Also camera is more responsive in this rom.
After Installing, install your favourite browser and favourite file browser as I have removed the stock browser and file manager as Market has much better options.
If I keep them, they will unnecessarily be seen in the menu and eat RAM/Battery and many guys dont use them. Hence decided to remove them.
appreciate your efforts in bringing this up... and hope that it better than the stock froyo. However would be kind if you could provide more details on your ROM.
Many would like to understand the difference between this and the others available before jumping onto the rom.
I experience on IN Stock Froyo has been disappointing and the reason I had to switch to CM 7x
Thanks.
Can I install CM7 or MIUI over this ROM? Will it have the new kernel?
Thanks!

For Mohan's Odexed/De-Odexed Version that can be installed from CWM or TWRP Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2228486
Install with ODIN 3.0.7
Thanks to Crackerpie for the Upload to hotfile and to Samsung for making the firmware but make sure to Wipe Data, Cache, Dalvik Cache Prior to using the ODIN Tool to Avoid Bootloop
Prerequisites
Make a Full backup of your Data before attempting
Make Sure you have at least 50% Battery
Make Sure you have a Good Condition USB Cable
If Flashing From a Official ROM like the AT&T ICS
If you coming from a Custom Rom (ie CM10.1/AOKP/Embryo) it's best practice to Wipe Data/Factory Reset, Wipe Cache, Wipe Dalvik Cache to avoid bootloop
How to Install:
1. Download and unzip the file
2. Download and unzip ODIN
3. Turn Off the device and go to download by pressing and hold volume down + home button and the press the power button until the boot screen shows up.
4. Open Odin and connect your phone with your computer, it should be in download mode when you connect it with odin
5. Once your device is successfully connect of the odin port will go blue.
6. Click on ‘PDA’ and select file KIES_HOME_I727UCMC1_I727ATTMC1_844945_REV02_user_low_ship.tar
7. In Odin select ‘Auto Reboot' and 'Reset Time', Make sure no other boxes are checked
8. Now click the start button in Odin and let the installation process to start.
9. After installation is complete, your phone will restart when you see this unplug the phone from PC
In the Event you get a Bootloop After Flashing
1. Pull the Battery
2. Hold down Power and Both Volume Buttons to get into the stock recovery that was flashed with the Rom
3. Wipe Data/Factory Reset 3 Times, Wipe Cache 3 Times, and Wipe Dalvik Cache 3 Times and Reboot and it will work, it takes the Rom about 5-10 Mins to Settle after being installed so be patient.
To Root This Rom:
1. Download the latest TWRP Recovery Tar here
2. Open ODIN and click PDA and select the TWRP Tar and flash it
3. Download the latest SuperSU 1.25 From here
4. And Flash in TWRP and Boom your Rooted
Once you use Titanium Backup on it it's not a bad Rom but a I know once Mohan has a release it will really start to kick ass for someome who want's a stock based rom

What are the improved Camera features? I tried searching but I doubt anyone is going to put up the video review of this JB update.
Just installed and running great. Very smooth and very fast. Liking it a lot. Only issue obviously is all the AT&T bloat. Getting good speeds on the new radio, too! Thanks again, forrest!!

Yes but you can regain root by following these instructions
To Root This Rom
Download the latest TWRP Recovery Tar here
Open ODIN and click PDA and select the TWRP Tar and flash it
Download the latest SuperSU 1.25 From here
And Flash in TWRP and Boom your Rooted
Also don't forget the darn CIQ that att loves to put on their crap software
sent from Johnson's JB creation 4.2.2
Call quality is great. Running very well so far with no hickups. I'm surprised how smooth it is even with all the AT&T BS on it. Battery life seems pretty solid far. New radio is good, UCLL3 was a bit faster in terms of data speeds but regarding call quality this radio is great, probably the best. Thanks again, forrest.

No, the multiwindow feature isn't on it.

Our screen is too small to make use of it anyways. It's pointless just like on screen nav buttons.

Impressions
Coming from Slimbean, here are my thoughts for those that haven't flashed yet:
-Lock screen functionality is missing (used to be able to swipe in different directions in the circle to launch different apps. There are shortcuts on the lock screen, but they dont' look nice. I installed widgetlocker to regain this functionality.
-The pop-up video feature is awesome. I usually use netflix, but if I put some videos on my phone, as a multitasker, it's very cool to be able to have them playing while I do other things on my phone
-I miss how everything was smaller in slimbean. Icons and the items in the notification bar are larger, so everything looks oversized.
-You can't remove items from the pull-down toggles and it takes up a lot of space (namely, brightness which even if you leave on auto, you have to look at every time you pull down the notification bar)
-The calendar is better. You can see events on the month view without drilling down into each day
-Can't customize the power menu. Although profiles weren't working in slimbean, they appear to have been removed altogether from the stock JB
That's all for now. It's not worth going back to slimbean at this point, since it's a stable rom and slimbean would at times crash. However, i do miss the smaller sizes of the notification icons and the ability to fully customize the toggles and the lock screen without 3rd party apps.

Thank you for the info! I'm on Embryo 5.4 at the moment (after flashing pretty much everything that moves for the skyrocket and finding that ICS is the most stable platform for my uses so far) I liked the stock UCLF6 but enjoy the extra customizations embryo gives me (plus the OC'ing)
I think I'll NAND and give this a whirl and see if I can get my ~500M free ram environment that I'm enjoying so much
I can't wait to see what comes out based on this release... Thank God the SkyRocket isn't a dev deadend!
What is the DPI setting for this rom? The default 240?
Thanks again for the info
You could root, change dpi, and flash a multi dpi play store to get your small fonts back.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
Note that if you change the DPI, you'd also have to change the default launcher, as TouchWiz does NOT play well at all with DPI changes. You will get a ton of unusable space (last time I tried, anyway).
Stuck on bootloop
I downloaded the file and went through odin and when it got done with andy and the status bar it booted up but it is stuck on the AT&T globe. I made sure the file was finished writing from odin when I unplugged my phone.
WTF is wrong here? I even went back and tried to reload ICS through odin but it is stuck there also. I did not install the recovery for it yet for JB. Is that something I should try and clear everything out and try again?
Your help is appreciated, and thanks.
Jeff
