Obligatory link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S/SGH-T959V/Rooting

I think you need some more detail in there... like maybe this is for GB.
I also use SuperOneClickv2.3.3. And there is no need to check any exploits.
I wonder if you felt like there weren't a dozen other threads on how to root?

um bro you have to check the rage one it for at least this version

Umm bro then get the up to date version.

MrGib
Doesn't work with GB but, umm bro, the updated version(2.3.3) does.

Im doing a froyo one though not GB

You are trying to contribute and that is great.
Just be aware most people would rather have Gingerbread and there is a much simpler way to do this once you get gingerbread.
Thanks for trying. It shows you want to help.

@eollie i was going to do a separate GB one if that's ok with you

That would just clutter up the forums some more. We already have a lot of guides in the wiki, so it'd be better if you gave the link to the wiki to people when they ask how to root GB. If you would like you can also add your GB guide to the wiki since anyone can edit it.

Why did you post this? We already have like 50 threads on this.

How to install custom rom

I am a new android user. I am learning little by little about this phone. Does anyone know how to install custom rom on infuse? I got my phone rooted already.
Thanks in advance.
Ok. First of all you have to be rooted. PM me if you need help with that. Which ROM do you want to flash? There are two that are working well, Infused and refuse. Refuse needs to use odin though, and infused usually doesnt. Just hit me up and I'll send you detailed instructions via PM. We dont need more clutter in these boards.

Ive looked thru so many pages that i probably saw the answers to some of my questions but read them as a blur. I come from an iphone and with so many android phones seems so confusing at times.

[Q] How to upgrade from Froyo 2.2 to Gingerbread 2.3.3 / 2.3.4 my HTC Inspire 4G ?

Hi fellas, YEAH !! I"m just a nob
I just bought my first Android Phone, yes....left behind my Iphone 3GS to get into the Real Game now ! ;-)
So, would you people help me know a bit more about this? I need to know how to upgrade my HTC Inspire 4G, from Froyo 2.2 to Gingerbread 2.3.3 or 2.3.4
Thanks all of you beforehand,
RUben.

Oh Thanks !! Well, I know the root process is the fact that being gaining admin access within the device, in order to make any kind of changes at the kernel level or anything else right ?
Now, my device is unlocked, that necessary means it's also rooted ?

Oh Thanks! and Yeah, that was the first post I'd read when I came into this cool website... The thing is, the guide is amazing, and those two ways to root the device seems great !! it's just that, what else after that ? I'm talking about being upgrading to Gingerbread, let's think the bases are ready (rooted, flashed, unlocked..) so then what ? should I download something and use some king of soft to upgrade my Inspire ? You know, I know all about Iphone and the way to jailbreak and unlock and upgraded and so on, but NOTHING about android.. as I said, I'm just starting.. Thanks a lot for all the advises... And SORRY for being posting this on the wrong thread!
Thanks,

Upon reading it, did you miss the part about flashing a rom? Since you want Gingerbread you will need to instal one. Hence the how to instal a rom portion.
The Inspire forums have many subforums. one of them is the dev forum. This would be your next reading material. But I suggest you read the guide again. Good luck.
Oh.. I got it !! The flashing process is basically the installation of a "firmware" into the phone, which would be in this case a gingerbread.
Thanks !

See My Sig and many other users here for their personal set ups. And of Couse I stress the reading. Te Dev forum has so much.

Rom/kernel = gingerbread or whatever (froyo, etc.)
Though there obviously hasn't been an official inspire gingerbread release, what you'll find in the dev section has been modified as required from the gingerbread release for the desire hd, pretty much the same phone.
There's a lot of them. Most of the newer ones are based on gingerbread.

Rooting MT4G In 3 Minutes!

Months ago I had so many problems rooting my MT4G. Recently, I decided to load the stock rom on my phone, just to root it all over again. I was able to do it in about 3 minutes! Here we go...
The following prerequisites can be found by searching/googling the forums.
1.) need VisionARY r14 .apk file
2.) need MyTouchRootingFiles (zip containing hboot_dhd.nb0, root.sh, and wpx.ko)
3.) download and install Android Terminal Emulator from Android Market
Ok, now that we got that out of the way, here are the instructions.
1.) Install VisionARY to your phone
2.) Unzip the MyTouchRootingFiles file to your computer, then copy the unzipped folder called ROOT to the root of your sdcard using usb cable
3.) While phone is NOT connected to computer, start VisionARY. Press the TEMP ROOT option to gain temporary root access. Exit VisionARY.
4.) Start Terminal Emulator and type the following, hitting enter after each line
SU
CD /SDCARD/ROOT
SH ROOT.SH5.) After rebooting, start VisionARY again, and gain TEMP ROOT once again
6.) Wait a few minutes (this is very important, don't rush), then press ATTEMPT PERM ROOT, your phone will reboot
7.) After rebooting, start Terminal Emulator and simply type SU. If you get the "#", you have rooted your phone!
Now you can explore the Android world by installing custom roms created by the community. You may want to research how to backup your device before starting to flash roms.
Good luck!
This will only work if you have the good eMMC chip set W/ 2.2.x. And it's a pretty well known method of rooting phones. Heck i have this method in my signature from when i posted the same thing months ago.
You do know this method only works for froyo 2.2. Now a days mostly everyone is on gingerbread 2.3. Gingerbread bread updated device is more complex to root. It requires you to downgrade then root.
When I started rooting mt4g's this is the method I used and it took me about 3 to 5 minutes as well. This is also without using a pc. Everything done from the device. Its not as easy now though.

Search the forums on how to check your eMMC chip. (I'd post the link, but i'm on my way to work & don't have it off hand. If you really can't find it, PM me & I'll find it.) Long story short, this method may not work, depending on the type of eMMC in your phone. You will
need to root via the gfree method, also available in the xda forums. Mackster248 has a great tutorial on YouTube.

Noob to SGS4G for T Mobile...

Okay people I just bought this phone and I'm coming from MyTouch 4G. I've been reading for the past 2 days about how to flash a SGS4G and honestly,..it's crazy! Little overwhelming to be Honest...to the point, I rooted my phone with Superoneclick, I have superuser, so I know it's rooted. Plus, I have Titanium Backup running on my phone. Everything is still FACTORY SET on the phone. It is running 2.2.1 Froyo. I did read about Froyo udate zip CWM and recovery and have downloaded them. My question is since I want to flash A Rom does it have to be Froyo only? If there is such a thing?? Or can it be Gingerbread 2.3.6? And is there anything else I need to download? I know I have to follow to the tee on the OP that the Dev. says to do. I just want to be sure exactly what I need to do..

The gb ext4 starter pack saved me alot of headache when I first got this phone. Hands down it is the best way to go. Just make sure you follow the directions exactly. Its guides like this and the people that make them that make XDA so great.
I'm new to it as well and like you are saying, it's overwhelming to root and flash on this phone. But I followed the GB starter pack the other day and included the Vahalla Final rom as my choice and everything worked great. Some things actually happened a hair different than described and I thought it screwed up but it worked.
But I think I just screwed up trying to do a restore

I'm on the same boat as the OP, I have a mytouch 4g and my cousin is about to upgrade soon, so she offered to sell me her galaxy s 4g for $75 so I'm gonna take up on it.
I've been spying on the forums here and have noticed that most of your guys' roms are gingerbread roms, (i didn't really bother to search, for I don't know for sure I'll keep this phone or sell both my mt4g and this new phone for a galaxy s ii), but anyways, I saw something about porting roms from the other galaxy phones, am I right?
I haven't seen any ics roms here yet, but I took a look at the vibrant forums and it appears they have an ics rom and i was wondering would porting the ics rom from the vibrant be possible if I wanted to try. Thanks

Thanks, but we've had a one click root exploit for 2.3.6 for at least a month now.

I know that there is a one click in the noob thread but I tried it about six times on my new a2 and it didn't work...don't know why. I have been rooting/flashing for a while now on several different phones. I picked this up on the infuse 4g forum and thought I would post it for people who had trouble with the other one click method.

You need to go to the Samsung forums for this phone and ask there.

You should check the Atrix 4G forums, this is the Atrix 2 forum.
Having said that, you may need to install device-specific software from Motorola.
