Hi,
I have a Nexus S I9020T and I have ICS 4.0.3 (rooted) with KI1 radio. Ever since I upgraded to 4.0.3 I've had really terrible 3G speeds (Like, 5-10kb down) I tried the KB3 and KF1 radios without any success. Weird thing though, I just made a nandroid backup and wiped the device to factory settings and speed increased to what I had before ICS. Then I restored the backup (because I forgot to take a Titanium backup) and wiped it again but the speed didn't return. So I flashed a 2.3.4 stock rom and flashed 4.0.3 stock again and for a few minutes I had really crazy speeds. Faster than I've ever seen on this phone. But then I rebooted the phone and back to speeds that make dial-up seem fast. Any ideas what might be wrong? Also can someone please provide me with a link to a KI1 radio download?
I'm on Airtel in India.

Okay guys...I need some help with this. Here is the quick version.
-Received my new white (GRI40) 9020a for ATT
-Rooted and installed NSCollab 1.0.19
-HSDPA Speeds were terrible (i.e. 1400kb/s down and ~700kb/s up)
-Flashed the new KB3 radio --speeds worse than before (i.e. 150kb/s down & up)
-Flashed back to KB1 radio --speeds fluctuate from ~150kb/s down to 500kb/s down)
-Have to use the phone on WiFi to get anything done because the cellular speeds are so terrible. What gives?
**Speeds are from dslreports.com and speedtest.net app**
Try using deodexed with voodoo root. The radio and rom opened up the limits I had with the stock radio on att with my 9020a. I tried cm7-rc3 and it was stuck on the logo boot. I know others have had success. I will warn you everything works but for some reason when I install angry birds or 1password it won't install and it reboots my device. Most other apps are fine. Take my advice at will this is my first android and rooting experience.

Hey everyone - I recently flashed Android 2.3.4 onto my 9023 just to give it a spin and I noticed that the bootloader was also being flashed.
Now I reverted back to the nandroid backup of the cm7 system I was using before but I'm a bit confused because fastboot tells me the bootloader version is I9020XXXKA3 and I'm not sure that it wasn't somethin with 9023 before
So if anyone is running (prefereably stock) 2.3.1, 2.3.2 on their 9023 or at least has never flashed 2.3.4 I'd be really interested to know what their bootloader says.
Especially since I'm having some hardware problems and might have to send the thing is. So to make it appear untouched it'd be good to knwo whether I need Odin or just a stock rom....
Thanks in advance
Just nandroid restore your stock 2.3.4 ROM, restore stock recovery, lock the bootloader. Your phone will be fully stock again, and it's perfectly sensible to have updates installed on your phone since purchase, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Hi,
I am also facing same issue. After updating to 2.3.4 my i9023 fastboot shows baseband as I9020XXKD1 and Bootloader as I9020XXKA3. Even I am worried. I bought it yesterday only and I manually updated to 2.3.4 from full rom google link for i9023. In about section the device still shows baseband as I9023XXKD1. Even I am bit scared and completely confused! I also found that MUMBAI MTNL DOLPHIN sim card connection is no more getting HSPA connection but only 3G!

Well, here goes.
I've been reading alot for quite a while, and learning everything I could around this place. Thanks to tall who contribute.
I'm running NScollab, 1.0.42, with matrix 8.0 kernel.
Currently on the XXKB3 baseband.
Following this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116884
I tried flashing the new KF1 radio for the nexus S. No luck. Either is doesn't flash at all ( status 6 error ) or when it does ( the signed version can be flashed in CWM ) no signal whatsoever. I've tried everything, changing the band, ( *#*#4636#*#* ) rebooting 45 times, dalvik wipe, changing type of radio, all guides, searched google, this website ( for a whole week ).
Nothing came up.
I'm posting, because this is pretty much last resort. I actually tried the KF1 radio on Miui, devnull, oxygen, and NScollab.
Telus users out there, what is your baseband ? What radio gives you the best signal and performance ? I know koodo switched to KF1, but I can't get it to work on my NS.
Any help is appreciated !
still noone ?
Darn.

I use KB3 for koodo(telus). I get signal... and it works.
I'm curious as to whether KF1 would be a better radio for us, or if it even works for Telus/Koodo. Anybody know?

I have a Telus Nexus S in BC and I just installed an OTA update to 2.3.6 / GRK39F / I9020AUCKF1 and the KF1 radio seems to be working fine. I've been able to call around and MMS without issues so far. (about 2 hrs) Not enough time spent with it to tell you if it gets better reception or not...
I acutally installed the OTA pacakage in order to go back to stock as I was getting sick of the Search Bug that has been plaguing my phone for ages and I was going to bring it back for warranty work, but it appears the flash of the radio to KF1 that was included in the package has resolved the Search Bug!
Sweet! So, I might stick with this for a bit to confirm it is gone and and if all is well, I guess there's no need to return the phone for service!
I have the same issue on koodo. Flashed ICS and I get reception with KF1 downtown but barely anything at home and it used to be great.
I'm running the UCKF1 radio on my telus NS, on cm9 + matrix 14.5. With my phone, it was impossible to flash the radio with CWM, it would flash, but could not get on the network. I had to use fastboot to flash the radio.
In my experience, XXKB3 and XXKD1 were definitely the fastest radios (no upload cap), but my connection was unstable, needing occasional reboots to reestablish connection if I ever lost reception. UCKF1 has been rock solid for me. (I'm in the Toronto area)
Also, for some reason I only started getting the search bug with ICS and XXKD1, but UCKF1 fixed that.

So I have been messing around with the new ICS build from AOSP.
Since I have the unlocked white i9020a I have to use the 4g zip.
It installs and runs fine the only problem is that I get no service.
I've tried flashing different radios on it such as KB3 and UCKB2.
But when I head to about phone on it and take a peak at the baseband it says unknown.
Ummm why do u have to use the 4g version? I have an i9020a and I use the normal nexus s rom.
On an i9020a? Weird.
I tried using the regular 3g one but as I start the install it stops and says there is an error.
I have a similar problem. Trying to resolve now.
Yah I've been tinkering around with it and I just tried to run the regular 3g install after wiping the cache and etc.
: /
If your problem was like mine, no matter what I would get 0 service whatsoever. No edge, no 3g, nada.
Well, turns out my /efs folder was wiped or corrupt. not sure which one, but I downloaded this program: and restored my efs folder. I believe CWM makes backups now, or at least most ROM devs do now, it's apart of the script.

Restore efs, and service is back to normal.
Im on Seans SKY ICS. The latest leak. Its a great ROM. Mainly for me because everything seems to work properly with almost no FCs. My only problem with the rom is the modem/radio that came with it. I have terrible signal where I live. But after I installed everything, I litterally have to stand at the door/window to make/recieve phone calls. Some have reported good signal with the new radio, but not me. Everyone seems to report slower data speeds. So I decided to flash UCLD2 and see if it would help any at all. But no matter what I do the bandbase always says "unknown". Is it compatible with the new rom? I came from 2.3.6 with UCLA3. Now signal still sucked, but nowhere near as bad as UCLE2 that came with the leak. My steps were:
Reboot to recovery.
wipe cache
wipe D. cache
flash radio
reboot
fix permissions in rom manager
reboot to recovery again
fix permissions in advanced.
reboot system.
Ive done this 3 times....still refuses to work. What am I diong wrong?
Also, can I flash UCLA3 that came from gingerbread 2.3.6?
How about you try this: flash the new ucle rom from mohan his ics rom is compatible with a wide range of radios, go through each one one at a time until signal is sufficient for you maybe one will give you way better reception
So your saying maybe its the ROM that wont let me install UCLD2?
