[Q] Cover / Plug for Micro USB Desire S - HTC Desire S

Hello,
Has anyone found a Micro USB cover/plug for the Desire S?
I found dust covers for the generic iPhones in the past. Even Desire S cases have holes in them where the Micro USB plug is.
I'm probably getting a little obsessed about this but it's just so gaping & open I want it sealed up!
I've searched internet & forums and found nothing yet... Does anyone have a secret stash?

Diamond - what's in the box??

Hey all,
I've got mine on pre-order and have been looking around for ideas about what comes in the box. I found this: http://www.slashphone.com/htc-touch-diamond-unboxing-16485 and various other links to the same sourse.
It appears you get a charger, headphones, USB lead. However, there is no case?
There were rumours around that the special self-cleaning case might be included: http://www.phonemag.com/htc-touch-diamond-handset-cleaning-case-photos-video-052706.php but this is not present in the unboxing pics. For a phone to come from HTC without a case is a little strange...
Anyone found anything more about this???

Adaptor for N1 Docking Station - any idea?

Hi!
Since I held the Desire in my hands some days ago, I am concerned that in a years future it might suffer the same problem that I had with my old TyTN II: In the (TyTN's mini- as well as in the) micro-USB slot there is a piece of plastic that holds the copper pins. And that piece had gone off.
Only since I have my Desire, I think that one of the best things of the N1 is the additional contacts on the bottom which are uses for the docking station.
Has anybody heard, read or whatever of an adaptor for the N1 docking station for the Desire?
I'm interested in this also. I am still reading all the related threads here so i am sure I will eventually see this simple answer, but for now:
Does the Nexus One also use microUSB --- same as the Desire? Or does the Nexus One use miniUSB ?
This review of the Nexus One dock says it's miniUSB.
damn.

well yes i agree with you if you mean that the dock's output to the wall charger(which is located behind the dock, not the one used to connect the phone with the dock, it is the one to connect the dock to the wall charger) is using miniUSB port....for the dock from the link you've posted...
but for the Nexus One Phone's charging port, it's microUSB...
just to clarify some things as not to confuse others...

But if that's the case, then why can't we use the Nexus One dock with our Desires ?? So you have confused me!

oh sorry, i reread the link you posted and i realised that they are mistaken, it is not miniUSB for the output but indeed uses microUSB output(after i look carefully at the pictures on that website)
and why can't we use the nexus one dock??
just go to youtube.com and search for nexus one dock, the videos will show that inside the dock(the place where you place your phone in), DO NOT have a microUSB plug to connect the desire!!!
the only thing inside the dock is the 3 PINS which will only work for the nexus one because the nexus have the 3 HOLES for the pins!!
So without a microUSB plug inside the dock, the htc desire can't utilise the dock because htc desire doesn't have the 3 sexy HOLES

Three Sexy Holes -- sounds like a new screenplay for Lady Gaga but I wouldn't speculate.
Yes, I understand now, thank you for clarifying your clarification.
no problem.....
the 3 gorgeous holes were there on the htc desire prototype, but was excluded on the retail version....
3 holes that didnt make the cut.....

Small / Keychain-able USB-micorUSB Charging cable

Due to an appauling battery life on the othewise brilliant "superphone", I am trying to find a solution where I can charge it often using a USB port in computers/laptops etc at workplace or outside.
Has anyone come across a USB-micorUSB charging cable which is available like a small dangle we can attach to a key chain/ring? I have seen retractable ones on the internet, they are not small enough to be attached to a keyring. Any experience?
Thanks.
This is the best I've seen but it is out of stock. =|

I wonder if that would work or not.
The small clip that holds the 2 sides together looks like it could potentially get in the way when connecting the mini usb to some phones.
Sadly, they seem to be sold out as well.
Good find none the less.

I have multiple phones and am always swaping them around depending on my mood. Thiat's why I will never switch to Verizon or Sprint. The advantages of a GSM phone. =P
I don't have a desire so I cant verify whether or not it has a lanyard slot.
I'm one of the unfortunate ones praying that AT&T will announce they will be getting the desire. =[

If you have a gel or silicon case you could always make a small hole at the bottom to fit the lanyard through...
Just seen this on ebay too.

http://www.smartcable.com.au/product.asp?id=17 - not sure if it is compatible but seems to have a micro usb connector from what I can see.
That last one looks great, they have both the S series and W series connectors on there that look cool. ( I like the look of the W series as it looks a bit smaller and thats the point of the cable.) But can anyone see where we can actually buy these?
edit- They have an eBay shop SmartcablesUK, and they are about £5 inc delivery for the W series ones!!! So even if they are shoddy quality, that's not bad at all!
Love the look of those! Have on on order now, I'll let you know how well it works when it gets here

internal gps antenna (micro-coax?) connector

Hi
I recently dropped my desire onto concrete and, while it landed on the side and thankfully wasn't too damaged the side housing was slightly split and was sharp, so I ebay'd a replacement casing (only £2.99) and went about fitting it.
All went well except when I popped the micro-coax cable for the gps antenna (by sticking my fingernail under the jack, as I have done many times on other similar connectors) it simply flew off, leaving the cable flapping. For what it's worth, I can't believe (given the amount of force I used) that it can have been connected fully in the first place, but of course I can't prove that now...
I'm pretty sure I can't solder that back together, firstly I don't think I have the skill or the kit (I can solder but this looks pretty intricate) and secondly I'm unsure there's enough spare cable left to solder it.
So now I'm looking for another cable and I simply can't find anyone selling them; further I can't even find any detail on the type of connector so I can search for a generic cable that might fit.
Any info would be much appreciated!
Geoff
Hi
Last year i made the same mistake and I found the following:
http://www.htcrepairparts.com/antenna-cable-replacement-for-htc-desire-bravo-a8181-a8182-a8183-g7-p-3759.html?language=en
My device had other errors,so I didn't try it after all, bought a used Desire.
Anyway,I think this connector is called U.FL or IPX,commonly used in miniPCI(e) laptop wifi cards, routers, etc. It can't be soldered as it's not soldered originally.
Info.
I hope this info could help.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately the item they ship is completely wrong - the cable's too long and the coax connectors are too large.
Think I'm going to have to resort to looking for a faulty phone on ebay.
Thanks anyway.
Geoff
Edit: for what it's worth it looks like the cable is W.FL, not U.FL - basically the same but smaller.

I ended up with a Hirose 10cm W.FL cable from RS - they don't stock the Hirose 70mm version which would have been better, the only people who seem prepared to sell that is mouser and they wanted about 20UKP including delivery.
The RS cable works but I had to bend it around stuff to use up the extra cable and the signal quality doesn't seem 100% at first impression (I'll do some side-by-side testing later with my wife's Desire - I did the repair this morning first thing before I left for work!) - I'm hoping it will be Good Enough though (I'm getting 6 or 7 sats, so it should be usable).
http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/connector-rf/6196387/
There's a guy on ebay selling a 38mm W.FL cable and when I asked he said he could supply a 65mm version (should be about perfect) for $4.50 delivered, so for anyone still looking for one that's probably the best option (I'd already ordered the RS one by then though)
Contact him through
http://myworld.ebay.com/connekt/
He replied to me within the day, for what it's worth.
Disclaimer: no connection to connekt, mouser or indeed RS

For anyone considering it, the 10cm cable was perfectly adequate - I drove into work with the Desire navigating and it all went perfectly. Sat next to another Desire GPS Status shows very similar output, certainly nothing noticeably worse.

USB Port flimsy

Hey
I have had my One S for about 9 months now and I have found over the past few months the usb port is getting looser and looser. The coating around its edges is now white not black. I have real concerns that before the end of my 24 month contract the phone will no longer work. Though for now at least, it is working.
I've read about the "coating" issues with the One S black edition. But this is more to do with the bodywork I think? Has anyone else found the micro-usb port is rather flimsy and has begun to wear. Or is it just me? Anyone would have thought from looking at it I'd been carelessly battering the usb port each day.. but this has happened through normal usage. It seems the usb port is not very robust. Maybe I just need to be more careful, I dunno?
I will be very carefully plugging in cables for the next year or so!

EDIT: SORRY. I realise this is covered in the Micro Arc Oxidation thread. Not sure how to delete this thread?
The bad news is I have already contacted HTC and they are saying if the USB needs repairing it will be at my cost.
Probably the last time I buy a HTC. Seems the warranty isn't worth the paper it's written on.

HI
Same problem for the micro-usb edges they became little bit whiter now, but the port it self, is working perfectly for mine !
