[Q] Can someone please offer me some advice. CWM isn't working - HTC Sensation

Hi all,
I know that there are a lot of guides on xda and I've been reading them, searching and googling like crazy to try to find the answer.
Yes I'm a noob and I'm still trying to Root my phone.
I have managed to S-OFF with revolutionary.
I want to flash ARHD 4.1.13 (android 2.3.5 & htc sense3.5) onto my HTC Sensation Z710e.
I've been reading this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
And I'm at the stage where I'm trying to install recovery v5.0.0.8 CWM onto my phone for recovery.
I have downloaded recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-pyramid.img from the threads here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1277975
I've heard that the file should be named 'PG58IMG.zip'
I've named the file recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-pyramid.img as 'PG58IMG.zip', then I've started up HBOOT but I keep getting messages stating cannot find PG58IMG. Then I just get the standard HBOOT screen of Fastboot, Reboot, Recovery etc... No messages about 'Updating' etc which you'd expect from CWM.
How can I move forward from here?
Thank you,
T-L-H

That's where you're going wrong. If you've got the recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-pyramid.img you flash it as it is using the fastboot flash command
fastboot flash bootloader recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-pyramid.img

I'm sorry I don't quite get what you're saying.
Edit---
I've just come across this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17173579&postcount=86
I'll try using that.

Sounds like you dl it,but it needs to be on the root of your sdcard. Move it to the root, then check md5sum,load up and it should recognize it.

You can't just rename the recovery file PG58IMG.zip - it doesn't work like that
If you have the *.img file you have to flash it via fastboot. That or find someone that's packaged the recovery into a PG58IMG.zip file

I've managed to flash the ROM onto my phone ^^
I've used ARHD 4.1.13 (android 2.3.5 & htc sense3.5)
Just to double check, that doesn't have Beats (thats fine I don't have any Beats headphones anyway).
Will it change the CPU to 1.5Ghz? In hardware settings for the phone it still shows 1.2Ghz.

Think that one doesn't but not sure...why not go for HD 6.x?

It was my first time Rooting and flashing ROMs onto phones, the whole firmware thing confused me until I'd thought about it...
I know that what I've got on now is stable.
I'll fiddle with it in a week or so.

you should rename it to "recovery.img", and put it into the old PG58IMG.zip (cwm 5.0.0.8) and overwrite the old recovery.img.
then put the new PG58IMG.zip in your sdcard root folder and get into hboot then update it.

Yeah, I'm downloading the Download free 4EXT Recovery Updater from here: http://www.4ext.net/
It's an APK file so how do I run it in the phone as I'm guessing it's an App.

just copy the apk file to your sdcard, and then open file explorer,e.g. es file explorer. then install the apk file, and then open the "4ext recovery" in your app drawer, and choose "online install|upgrade", then choose "touch", then choose the latest version, now it is 1.0.0.3 RC3.

I've put the apk file on root of my SD card, I opened ES File Explorer, installed the App, I ran it, updated it online to RC3.
Shut down the phone, HBOOTED it and then chose recovery and then back up in EXT4. It's doing it's thing now, I take it that this is correct?

There is a .sh file that needs to be removed, totally forgot the location of it :/
/etc/install-recovery.sh needs to be deleted or renamed.
It's a "safety" feature in 3.3.1 and above to restore the stock recovery if it doesn't pass a check on boot each time.
This is pointed out in numerous threads...search a little for more details if you need them.
Ok thanks

Are you mounting the /system partition as read/write?
Use root explorer or similar or issue the remount command from the command line before trying to rename it.
that's the trick just rename the image, and the CW recovery will stick
that's the way it's written in the step by step guide,

I am having problems renaming it as well. I'm not sure what you mean by "use root explorer or similar or issue the remount command from the command line before trying to rename it.
I have tried using Astro and Android Mate to rename the file and both will not let me.
EDIT: Nevermind, I used root explorer and was able to find "mount r/w" and rename it finally. Thanks.

Because those won't allow you to modify system files. Get Root Explorer, like he said, and use that.

Cause u probably used ADB to get it to stop reflashing the stock recovery. Using root explorer is the same thing only less technical.

True, I used adb, spent like 2 hour trying to get the pc drivers to recognize the nexus. I used the PDAnet drivers eventually.

Are you on a custom ROM like CM or Bionix? They remove the script that rewrites stock recovery.
If you're on stock, what version of it are you on? 2.3.1 and higher have a file called /etc/install-recovery.sh on them, and if that's there it should be reflashing stock on every boot, whether you renamed the image you flashed to recovery or not...

How do i...

put this radio img into a bootloader flashable PD98IMG like Shad0wf0x's guide?

Yes and place it on the root of your SD card, reboot in hboot, give it a second to load and pretty soon it will ask if you want to update...Thats it.
Just be careful, as I'm sure you have read...flashing radios can bick your device pretty fast

No. In these particular downloads , the PD98IMG.zip file is contained within the .7z archive, so you'll need to simply extract PD98IMG.zip and copy it to the root of your SD card, then reboot into bootloader. If you simply rename the .7z file it won't work.
yeah i have flashed many radios before just wasnt sure cause i could only find the radio.img n not the whole PD98IMG zip so i was scared, and flashed the bare radio in bootloader not noticing lol... Luckily didnt brick so i came here.. I found it out right after i downloaded it but thanks alot..

[Q] Lost root after installing 9ZGgDXDi.zip

Lost root after installing 9ZGgDXDi.zip.
This of course installed JB 4.1.1 but then when I go to recovery after entering fast boot menu I see a supine green robot with a red triangle with an exclamation point spilling out of its guts. (truly a horrible sight)
It also installed recovery-from-boot.p in System folder.
I know the solution is to rename recovery-from-boot.p file to recovery-from-boot.p.bak or renaming to something else or deleting, however since I lost root I don't see how I can rename or delete this file.
When I use root explorer I cannot mount r/w so cannot rename the file
Using ES File Explorer I rename the file but get the message that rename failed.
Connecting the phone via usb and turning on usb storage I can only access files from sd card and so cannot get to system folder in the parent directory.
Please can someone help destroy or rename the .p file.
If I'm reading it right, you lost your root and recovery after installing the OTA, right? You can still flash a custom recovery and install SU from said recovery after flashing CWM. You would then have the ability to rename the script which replaces the custom recovery with the stock. The file, if IIRC, is called recovery.sh or something along those lines.
Refer to this guide and re-root. Probably the easiest way to solve it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1789216

I know that. I moved the backup on the computer and when I put it on my sd so I could restore it. It didn't work it says no file found do you know where I can download the Original Stock Rom and when i try starting it up it go's to a black screen with a green arrow pointing towards the found then it goes to the phone with a red triangle with a red exclamation point. What is that?
If your backup is not recognised you have put it in the wrong folder i think. So tell us, where the files are on your sd card.

Can I go to some website to download the original stock Rom and kernel I need to fix my phone asap so can you please tell me exactly what I need to do. Plus what are those symbols i describe in my last reply. Thanks so much for assisting me I appreciate it.
The files must be in folder: clockworkmod/backup/2013-04-01.18.46.58
The last folder is the date it was created.
The symbols mean, your flash has failed.
What if that doesn't work

Do I have to put it in a certain folder or something? It keeps saying no file found. Thanks
Don't copy the zip directly.
What you could do is make a backup, see where it is on your sd, replace it with the one from the zip and then restore that one.
So Noob17_Me, flash this rom from here.

Yea but what im trying to say is that the file I downloaded isn't in zip form. So how am I supposed to install it on CWM?
Sorry but what is so difficult to understand? The rar is not for flashing, its a cwm backup and if you unrar it you have a folder Clean JB Crkt 2.04.1050.3, inside you find a folder clockworkmod.
This clockworkmod folder you have to copy to SD, like it is and and boot into recovery and choose "restore".
And my zip is made from this backup, so it are the same files!

Busybox 1.21.1 Flashable zip???

Hi,
I hope this is the right place to ask this, I'm looking for a Busybox 1.21.1 zip file to install by flashing via CWM on my HTC One S (S4). For some reason i can't install Busybox from the app downloaded from the market, so i believe this is probably the best way to do so. I've searched here and only found one that has SuperSU bundled with it, i only need Busybox as i already have Super SU installed and updated to the latest version.
Thanks

Is there a noticable difference between TWRP & CWM that warrant changing it? I've assumed CWM is the better recovery as it seem the more popular.
