Q3 rollout though? It might as well not be coming out at all. I feel certain that sometime between now and Q3 I will not be able to resist picking up some stupidly powerful quadcore tegra3 (or similar) device which will have launched with ICS, and probably for a decent price.
It all leaves me imagining that Motorola only have a single solitary developer with a shoestring budget tasked with putting out the software upgrades for their existing range of phones. Why else would it take so long?
Anyway, looks like our own wonderful development community is the place to pin our hopes for some kind of ICS goodness, within a reasonable time frame.

Q3 starts around July so it's really not that far off. At least the phone isn't dead in the water.

Not a big fan of the trombone. I mean, I respect it as an instrument, and the people who play it as musicians, but it would have been much more helpful if you had picked something like a cello (which I also like much more than the violin).
You know, just FYI.

We'll get ICS WAYYYYYY before Q3. The dev are working on it as we speak the only thing stopping them is that they're missing the telephony.apk which we need in order to connect to a GSM network. Without it we have a really small tablet with ICS.
Since we know that there is ATLEAST 1 dev in Motorola working on it that means that there will be a working APK with any betas/alphas that get out into the wild. As soon as that happens you can bet jim or lfaber will jump on it and fisnish their ICS masterpiece and maybe make CM7 or CM9 with it.

That is exactly correct!!!
So everyone keep checking cheesecake, ALL servers at least once a day, that is how we will find an early version, as we did with 2.3.6 months before it was out officially. If we get that, then yes we can get CM9 working.
I might have CM7 out here by the weekend, at least that is what I am hoping, but it is still not ICS, it is the 2.3.6 version.

I know its not as fast as we'd prefer, but isnt it nice to hear SOMETHING official from Moto about this phone? We all have been in limbo, heard assumptions, conflicting rumors/"inside" info, so I like that we at least know the future of our device, officially.

See, sometimes inside info is a good thing... I was right on with the time frame I was given. Not showing anyone up or rubbing it in or anything, so don't take it that way.

great news! we do have a newer phone and the hardware is capable... glad to see moto planning ICS for Artix 2. I will probably never flash it cos I'll be on some custom rom built by the devs here!

Great news. We own one of the most underrated phones out. 2.3.6 made the phone better, ics will hopefully put it over the top.

Thanks a lot for the info. I was reading the bootloader unlock thread when the news came out. That just made my day.

Well that and the locked bootloader. Doesn't that still hinder us a bit?

Can't wait hopefully we can find a bootloader unlock during the run up to ics
Sent from my MB865 using XDA App

Well, after trying every phone out there (including a brand new unlocked Galaxy Nexus (returned), SGSII, HTC Vivid, etc.) I can say without a doubt the A2 is the all-around best android phone out there for AT&T. I have come back to it everytime after finding the other phones were either cheaply built, couldn't hold a signal, couldn't obtain gps lock, or took crappy pics. While the A2 doesn't do any one thing extraordinarily better than other devices, the phone does everything well with good battery life and great screen to boot.
ICS will definitely make the A2 a keeper, especially if can finally unlock the bootloader for some custom kernel goodness

Q3 is July - September, when September comes expect an announcement about delays and when 2013 come expect your atrix 2 on ebay.

All the screenshots so far have the notification bar cropped out, Google must be cooking up something so big with the notification bar that even the leakers can't bare to reveal yet.
One bad thing though, if the rumours is right then Google will release a new phone around Christmas. I guess this will be with more powerful hardware which will be able to run honeycomb or something.
So then requirments might increase siginficantly to 3.0, which means i need a new phone soon
Well our Nexus's are ready now for Ginger & co.

It's not a rumor, Nexus Two (or whatever they call it) it's going to be announced probably
in November 8th. Manufactured by Samsung. It's the same phone as the Galaxy S
but a little thinner and with a curved back.
Eric Schmidt: "Initially, Google felt that they needed to build a device to help Android along so they worked with HTC to create the Nexus One handset. Schmidt says: “The idea a year and a half ago was to do the Nexus One to try to move the phone platform hardware business forward. It clearly did. It was so successful, we didn't have to do a second one. We would view that as positive but people criticised us heavily for that. I called up the board and said: 'Ok, it worked. Congratulations - we're stopping'. We like that flexibility, we think that flexibility is characteristic of nimbleness at our scale."

Bollocks! I knew I should've waited!! I loved my Nexus One until it was stolen. I loved the fact that everything came there first, as far as updates etc. It was so obviously Google's own phone. I didn't like that I had to use Dialer-One and Launcher Pro though (not crazy about stock Android dialler).
I love my Galaxy S's hardware, but I'm not loving this RFS stuff. How can I recommend a phone to people if they're going to have to lagfix it.. How do I know some OTA update isn't going to break it a year down the line and then they all start phoning me ?!
A Galaxy-S Nexus would be cool I reckon ..

More rumors of an update

Just called VZW tech support to complain about my phone's incessant rebooting. After some fairly vocal complaining I got booted up to a Tier 2 or whatever they call them over there, and she told me she personally spoke with an HTC rep today who assured her that there will be a reboot-fixing update pushed out before the end of the week.
When I said "yeah right, whatever you say" she offered up her email address and said if they don't push it out by then, to call her this monday and she'll just get me a new phone (i.e a Charge or Revolution, not a new T-Bolt, already tried that).
So, finger crossed? I'm not sure it'll help me too much, I'm assuming it's simply MR2, which when I rooted and tried using it also gave me rebooting problems up the wazoo. But still, might be interesting news to some of the rest of ya'll.

Bah. I searched first, there's nothing I'm immediately seeing mentioning an OTA update before July 8th for rebooting issues, just people talking about the July 7th update to remove from Hotspot. If I missed it then I apologize, your highness. I'm only going to spend so long search to spare anyone the horror of reading a three sentence thread I started that MAY be redundant.

Threads like this leave me scratching my head. You have a Bolt. You have ease of rooting. You have a plethora of ROMs, radios, and kernels. But.... you're talking to Verizon about a problem that you could permanently resolved in a lazy afternoon. Don't get me wrong! A new OTA would be groovy... fresh meat for the devs. Just not sure Verizon are the problem-solving folks.
then be happy, if there isn't a update
So I literally just got off the phone with a VZW rep & he went through his bulletin notes & saw TBolt DOES have an update on the way. When? Mid July, no specific dates. Only one can hope...

Like I said, I don't think this OTA is going to help me. I've already tried MR2 (worse than MR1 in terms of rebooting) and MR2.5 (racing grade ultra leaded nightmare fuel levels of rebooting) so unless there's some magical un-leaked code in the OTA I doubt my T-Bolt is ever going to be stable. I was more posting this for the few who prefer to keep their 'bolts stock and want a rebooting issue fix.

There doesn't need to be any ota for this. Verizon will auto add a block dun feature on your account like the iPhone...there is no device side software needed for this.
The mr2 was pushed till second half of July, and even that is subject to change since there isn't any set date. Just like they said second half of June, so really who knows at this point. Thanks to Bamf and company I haven't had a single issue since day one on the device.

Holy moly

I just got a Captivate about 3 days ago, and WOW I LOVE IT!! My friend/brother got it from his real brother (they traded stuff) and I traded him a 4GB DDR3 stick of ram that you can get on newegg for $20 . I thought this thing wouldn't be able to do up to date gaming and stuff AND I thought that there wouldn't be able to do alot of rooting/installing custom roms etc..... but wow was I wrong. This thing has alot of choices available to it for roms, and I can play games like Real Racing 2 easily . I'm also glad to have an android device period to finally have a portable linux device and a pmp (which is what I wanted an android device for) that supports FLAC. All In All this thing ROCKS! I never thought a phone through at&t even if its made by samsung would be this badass

Like me lol, I just used my GPS to get to a friends house (he recently moved there) and had no issues . Speakers work beautifully and everything else is ever so amazing. I have had boot loops and whatnot... but I'm still fairly rusty/new to installing custom roms. I only have CM7 atm because it was a REALLY easy tutorial to follow on the wiki
Lol. Im on my fourth captivate. Traded 3 in under warranty. 2 for gps(gave up on that), 1 for random shutdowns, and if this one was under warranty, I'd replace it because the speaker goes in and out.

The only random shut downs on my Captivate have been kernel related, my GPS has always worked as well as any Captivate GPS works (wonky at best, but functional), and I've never had my speaker stop working. As b-eock said, not everyone has the issues some have, you also have to keep in mind that forums attract people with problems - there are many more out there walking around in the world with Captivates in their pockets that work just fine.

I've been thinking about this for a while now. I'm keeping my g2x until the new nexus phones come out, and then sticking to pure nexus phones from Google. I'm sick of waiting for venders and carriers to work together for releases, and I'm sick of crap that carriers add to phones which is useless and slows them down. I normally root my phone and install CM on it anyway, but with the g2x even that isn't a 100% working solution anymore.
By the way, I read that Google is releasing up to 5 different nexus phones from different vendors around Thanksgiving this year. I'd wait for that!

No, in fact if you search up my previous post, my G2X, is one of the few that has zero flaws.
I'm jumping ship because the Sensation has more Dev support. (Really a lot of dev) They recently got official CM9.

I'm almost positive this was towards me, and well... ok. Maybe if people actually searched or didn't make retarded threads I wouldn't be, I help when help is needed (as in if someone searches and posts in an already created thread like these ones.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1449382
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342085
I searched for 10 seconds and found both of these. It's pointless to make a thread like this, especially with the OP's statement, does he want a cookie for wanting a sensation? Lastly OP my interest is not to stock what you have said in other threads, if you make a new thread make it worthwhile to read for the community, not something useless and informative.
Hey XDA I just had Chipotle, and added way too much Cholula to it.
If you're gonna jump ship, just do it.
The community for the G2x has been flawless, but I have seen the future, and I left it for the GS II. Man, they're a live one over there. Everyone's awesome and welcoming; a bit impatient at times when they ask for ROM updates (lol smh), but generally nice people.
Now all the devs here are a capable bunch, and they've managed to do what LG/T-Mobile/Nvidia couldn't do. I've said this time and time again. But without those 3 giving this phone even half of the effort, we suffer ultimately. In Driver support, Camera support, ICS support, annoying bugs going unfixed. The devs have to pick up all the slack, and that sucks. I left because of the circumstances that those 3 have put us in, and I'd say it's a fair assessment.
But if you're gonna jump ship, I suggest you don't do it for whoever gets ICS first. There's no way I would have gone to the Sensation, too many hoops to jump through, S-OFF, bootloader, etc. That phone's pretty thick too, not enough internal memory either (Nice camera though). Jump when you decide your time here has come to an end, when you have felt like you can enjoy this phone no longer, or if you feel you just need an upgrade/better spec'd phone. I believe those are valid reasons, as well as explanations that don't tick off the rest of the community. x) Cheers on your future smartphone endeavors!
ya i was on the same boat when the phone came out but meh there is a lot of things that i love about this brick lol but mind you the galaxy S3 is coming out so i might go out and buy one of those this summer
Just jump already
It all depends on what you want the phone to do for you... and what you are willing to do for the phone!

previously owned the sensation and I believe that the g2x is way smoother and feels better in the hands, though the dev community over there is rocking
Really? G2X feels better in the hand? I got to try it out at the store, been looking to get my hands on a sensation off craigslist for a good price, probably trade for my GS2.
I'm sentimental with my devices, also, have lots of back NANDROIDS of the G2X and need to get my data out of them before selling it. Actually thats the only reason I still hang on to my G2X. Too lazy to move my stuff out of it. I can, just don't feel like it.

New AT&T Atrix 2 User.

Hi! I just bought yesterday an Unlocked Atrix 2 from AT&T, it came with Android 2.3.6 (55.13.25.MB865,ATT.en.US) Pure stock, not rooted, brand new.. My question is.. What should i know about this device? Is it Getting an official OTA of ICS soon? I don't want to root it yet, i'd like to receive official ICS Update via OTA, then root and play with it. I'm in argentina, and sometime while surfing the web with 4G i lose network connection and reconnects itself after a few secs, someone has experienced that? The Screen is a little yellowish all over white colours, normal too or what? Thanks A2 Users!

Official ics will be here in a month or so. Hopefully sooner. The yellowish colors for the screen are normal for this phone.

Hi. And, welcome to the community..
It's a good device, but it has a locked bootloader which prevents us from installing truly custom roms or custom kernels. But, as you will notice, the guys around here can do some pretty cool stuff with what limited capabilities we've got. (The unlock you are referring to is the subsidy unlock for different carriers, I assume).
Yes, depending on your definition of soon, the official ICS is coming soon-ish (my guess is august for the at&t us builds). And simply rooting, should have no impact on receiving or installing the official ota update - it's the other stuff you do with root that screws up the install of the ota - but we have ways to fix up your system for the ota..
Never been to Argentina, but I have experienced bad data connections depending where I'm at.
The yellowish color is not normal. At least mine doesn't look yellow. And since yours came stock 2.3.6 (most come 2.3.5 out of the box), and it's sim is unlocked, so it may be refurbished or slightly used.. not sure what causes the yellow.. do you have a screen guard that discolors it?
Hope that helps. Good luck with everything.

I've never noticed a "yellow" tint, but I do have some darkish blotches in the center of where my keyboard would appear that may be from mashing the screen too hard while angry texting crazy girls...

Wow! So many replies in just Minutes.. Thanks a lot, i feel confortable asking here now. First of all its Sim Unlocked, you can use it with any carrier. About "Yellowish" tint all over, is hard to tell when it is noticeable, for example, when you surf in Google Play, while loads the screen of a selected app, you can see the background the yellowish tint is a bit noticeable, also in Wifi settings and others, but colors in photos and everything is perfectly normal.. Probably i'm a bit daltonic or paranoid. I'm happy to know that our phone will have ICS in August, i think the wait will worth, i saw Droid Razr running ICS and, OMG so smooth, so perfect..! The only i complain about is about the stock browser, wich provides a laggy experience -.- but overall performance is good! I like the build quality, its a very good looking phone, looks very professional and feels like a premium phone. Not like the cheap plastics Samsung GS2 i own, it feels like a toy compared to A2! I'm uploading photos of the phone right now.

I agree, it feels like a good quality piece of hardware. Oh, and August was just my guess, the official word from Moto is Quarter 3, which goes until like late September I think.. so who actually knows..
As for browsers, yup, the stock GB browser is horrible in my opinion also.. I'm sticking with Boat Browser - keeps getting updates and getting better. Also, Firefox is available for GB, and for ICS, you can get Chrome (but it's still pretty bare bones - plus the stock ics browser uses chrome parts I believe..). Just try a few out, and you'll find a nice replacement browser...

I noticed it instantly the first time i turned it on, i'm getting used to this anyways. It wasn't confortable at first.. Thought it could be a defect.

First off.. WELCOME! The A2 is a great phone and I hope you're happy with it
We have plenty of great devs here that make amazing things happen for this phone.
ALSO if you really don't like the yellowish tint try this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.netmanslab.sa&hl=en
Just raise the blue values to get rid of the tint
New ATRIX 2 user here to. Very much love xda been reading much of what members say to learn and enjoy new ATRIX 2! Root soon and be flashing good rom for this phone!!!
