Okay, so I was wondering, if we flash a rom, and the service provider's name on the phone changes, is that a problem? will they be able to trace back to me and see that I have modified my phone? Originally I was using Fido, but afterwords it says Rogers. Although fido does "borrow" Rogers network, would it be a problem?
Btw i apologize in advance if i posted int he wrong area because this is my first post and im new to everything! thx
it wont affect buddy... since yur network changes name, dat means its from tha network!!!
#Dont panic brov..... yu dont have any problem!
Your provider can't read your phone infos. Unless he has some programs instaled on your phone that would do that form them.
Just make sure you have a way to revert back to stock rom, in case you need to warranty your phone. Rooting will automatically void the warranty.

Not perfectly related but the knowledge of the "hidden" Carrier IQ software should be interesting if you own a smartphone. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrier_IQ
A carrier can read your phone info, and they do when you call in with a problem. The information they read is from your build.prop, if I remember correctly, so you could just change that file to reflect what looks like stock. Don't make any changes without first doing a backup and knowing what you're doing. If you don't know what to change, don't mess with it.
Every thread to do with rooting says that rooting voids your warranty. Your warranty is done unless you completely revert to stock and unroot. Your service is not affected. They cannot kick you off for rooting your phone, but they can deny you (warranty) service on the rooted phone.

Hi guys,
This is my very first post and Glaxay Gio(S5660M) is my very first android phone!
I got this phone brand new from Bell. Wanted to unlock it to use on Rogers. Found out that the phone doesn't register any valid IMEI!
I press *#06# and IMEI shows up blank. The same happens when I go to setting->Phone status->IMEI. Nothing is there. The box and the lable underneath the battery show a valid IMEI number but nothing is registered INSIDE the phone.
Now, I tried a Bell SIM card and the phone works fine. But no luck with any other SIM card. How is it possible to operate a cell phone without IMEI?
Is it still possible for me to root and flash this phone to original Samsung firmware?
I have no experience in rooting or flashing but I don't mind trying the methods explained in this forum.
Please advise.
Cheers,
Seems you used the STL5 method to get the unlock code. That method is out of date and causes a large percentage of corrupt EFS. There's no known way to restore it right now; you have to take it back to your shop and act dumb.
Welcome to forums
Thread moved to Q&A due to it being a question. Would advise you to read forum rules and post in correct section.
Failure to comply with forum rules will result in an infraction and/or ban depending on severity of rule break.
This phone is brand new. It was never activated through Bell Canada nor was it unlocked or tampered with.
I believe the IMEI is there but Bell's firmware blockes it from being displayed before activation. Is it possible?
I called Bell and they said I should activate the phone, then their system loads the new phone number and the IMEI into the phone so I can use it.
Now, with a valid IMEI in the system, I can go ahead and unlock the phone using tested methods, right?
Please advise.
Could someone please help me out here?
This phone is prepaid by Bell Canada. The phone is not activated by Bell so there is no phone number associated with it. It is brand new.
I check the lock status of the phone and all gategories show as "OFF" but it does not work with any SIM card except Bell!
IMEI shows as two small empty boxes. No number or anything. Eveything else looks fine. All apps run well.
Now, what should I do? Can I root, flash and put the official firmware on it? Is it possible to do so? Some say the EFS is corrupted if no IMEI is showing. But how come the phone works with Bell SIM card?
Please help!
This is my first time on a forum so appoligize in advance if I ask dumb ?s or dont know how to navigate. Recently I bought a HTC 1 M8 off a craigslist so I wouldnt lose my unlimited data . So much for that, since I cant even use it now. my phone is rooted and i get nothing more than 2 bars of 3g. Can this be a problem with the root or a device problem. what can I do ? I want to use up some data
Need little more info please, stock rom or custom, version, locked/unlocked, etc.
unlocked, I believe it is running a custom ROM. I really dont know. I am so uneducated when it comes to this, so bear with me
You should be able to swipe from the top and get to settings-> about-> software information . What info is there
Android version 4.4.4
Kernel version 3.4.0 skydragon v2 1-ga
What is your carrier? Skydragon is a gsm only ROM. more details here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2706391
Verizon
Think we have found your problem . GSM won't work on VZW, it's CDMA.
Right, it essentially means the hardware radio in your phone won't work on Verizon network. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1864990
What the hell!!!!
It says Verizon on the phone.. Lol
So no 4g ever???
That's probably a good thing from a hardware perspective, but you probably will have to educate yourself on booting into your bootloader to determine if you are unlocked, soff, etc. then flashing a Verizon ROM.
I think it is unlocked, and soff

Click to collapse
Since you are S-off and unlocked, simple flash a Stock Verizon Rom after that, install Stock Recovery and THEN
perform a Factory reset* from phone or from stock recovery* so those Verizon radios will be restored.
Search how to...learn, read , read again enjoy it
here the Rom you need Stock VZW Rom Rooted http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-htc-one-m8/development/rom-stock-rooted-vzw-ota-2-21-605-2-wp-t2874699

Thanks,
Yes I need to do a lot of reading before I try and flash this phone. I am happy to know that it is fixable. I must say this has to be the best forum I have participated on. I generally am on old car forums. You guys have all been great help. As I learn I can bet I will be asking for a lot more help.. Lol
Or perhaps the RUU from @dottat would get you there all in one shot. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2873144. Good luck
I want to root my HTC One Mini (m4) which was a contract phone with O2 (UK) - I now have a new phone, but I'd like to use the m4 to experiment with.
Before I start playing, I want to create a backup of the phone exactly how it is now. Nothing of any importance is stored on the phone so I'm more than happy to reset it if I need to. I just want an image of the phone so if anything happens or breaks, I know I can just use my backup to get the phone working again.
I have read of methods which involve rooting the phone before backing up and using recovery mode to create an image. But I'm concerned that I create an image from the rooted phone, I'll have a rooted image that I can't unroot and return the phone to exactly how I bought it.
The CID of the phone is O2_001 and it currently has a GiffGaff SIM card in it. As far as I know, GiffGaff use the O2 network - but I don't plan to change networks at this moment.
I hope I've covered what I need to in my very first post. I'd really appreciate some help to a complete newbie - hence all these questions which are probably surrounded in confusion by myself!
Thank you.
Nobody?
I need a answer to BootLoaders and KNOX. My first Question is:
Which Galaxy S3's have a Locked Bootloader and at what version f/w is it locked or unlocked? (My understanding is that Verizon S3's are all bootloader locked and have read that some or most others are not, with some only unlocked until KitKat).
My Second Question is KNOX. How does KNOX relate to the BootLoader if at all? I have read many KNOX articles. Example is it flashed into a boot partition or bootchain, many places or just loaded to verify hash/signs/enforce, etc? Just how deep/comprehensive is the spyware integrated?
I currently have a MTR (long story) which is closest to the Vzw model, besides USC. Most Vzw ROMs work perfect, until 12+. These have misc issues mostly radio/wifi/BT.
Goal is to Update to the Lowest/Highest BootLoader that will allow proper BaseBand access with CM13. Keeping in mind I don't want KNOX or Locked BootLoader if at all possible. I was considering just extracting the bootloaders from NA1 and dd them or use Odin/zip if needed. As long as everything works I don't care about not being able to downgrade again to a lower version. I also don't want to spend a fortune on BST Tools either. Too bad there is not a LK/Aurora based open bootloader or even u-boot.
I do not really care about Warranty (prefer not having it say so), don't foresee needing KNOX Containers, etc. I have seen some ROMs with it stripped out, meaning its not absolutely necessary! I have even seen some custom "Voodoo" files that will wipe/mod/revert the flag if flashed (not even going there, have sd brick recovered twice). I would have posted in T-Mo, but not appropriate. I also cannot get a clear answer as to whether MetroPCS locked the bootloaders? I read that Samsung was enforcing it, via KNOX/NSA campaign. I trust xda more than any other generic Android site. I even went to teamusc and consensus is unlocked until late/last 4.x release. I recall it is the same, but cannot find it again!
I have read allot of opinions and guesses here and elsewhere, but want and need a clear answer! The S3 is still popular around this area believe it or not. Sorry for the length and organization of post... The information is spread out everywhere and almost every list of firmware do not add a notation. The more info the better! Thank you in advance for your time and help!

THREAD MOVED
I bought a Verizon Samsung Galaxy s7 off craigslist am-G930V, I was told it was already unlocked as Verizon phones are already unlocked out of the box, I put in my metro sim card& I get nothing
1) the start up screen says custom and shows an unlocked padlock what does that mean? Does that mean it's rooted?
2) I've tried several different root aps and root checker apps &several have come back as rooted I also tried the device health check option I found through a Verizon app that cane on the phone that also said it was rooted but the original root checker app says "sorry root access is not properly installed on this device . So what do I do I tried flashing the supersu zip & I get "Error in/sideload/package.zip (status255)
Is there something I can do to fix it?
Is there a way I can find out if it's rooted or not other then root checker.
Also what needs to be done to get my sim card to work on this phone also?
You need to spend a day reading a lot of threads my friend, it seems you don't have any knowledge about root or how to achieve it, all the info you need is here, don't just blindly try flashing things, read.
I already knew that part, what i need to know is what do I read what do I do? If it's all here point me in the right direction
If you're looking to be spoon fed, that won't happen here, open some forums, read some threads, doesn't take a degree to find things if you take the time to read rather than expecting people to do the work for you.
I have been looking this up and reading for about a week.
The person I bought this phone from I think may have rooted it but I'm not sure if and what they used to do so. I'm thinking they attempted to root it but didn't complete the process.
Now with the sim card after I insert it wouldn't my next step be to go to mobile networks in my settings?
When I do that instead of the standard opinions of network operators access points ect. I only have two options data roaming and access points.
I've tried adding a few different apn settings & still nothing.
I'd like a little bit of help someway somehow
Root has nothing to do with SIM locks, if the phone doesn't accept the SIM it has absolutely nothing to do with being rooted or not, and no that padlock doesn't have anything to do with being rooted either
Since you already posted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/help/s7-help-t3517647, this is a duplicate thread.
