[Q] NO LTE on my phone - Verizon HTC One (M8)

This is my first time on a forum so appoligize in advance if I ask dumb ?s or dont know how to navigate. Recently I bought a HTC 1 M8 off a craigslist so I wouldnt lose my unlimited data . So much for that, since I cant even use it now. my phone is rooted and i get nothing more than 2 bars of 3g. Can this be a problem with the root or a device problem. what can I do ? I want to use up some data

Need little more info please, stock rom or custom, version, locked/unlocked, etc.

unlocked, I believe it is running a custom ROM. I really dont know. I am so uneducated when it comes to this, so bear with me

You should be able to swipe from the top and get to settings-> about-> software information . What info is there

Android version 4.4.4
Kernel version 3.4.0 skydragon v2 1-ga

What is your carrier? Skydragon is a gsm only ROM. more details here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2706391

Verizon

Think we have found your problem . GSM won't work on VZW, it's CDMA.

Right, it essentially means the hardware radio in your phone won't work on Verizon network. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1864990

What the hell!!!!
It says Verizon on the phone.. Lol
So no 4g ever???

That's probably a good thing from a hardware perspective, but you probably will have to educate yourself on booting into your bootloader to determine if you are unlocked, soff, etc. then flashing a Verizon ROM.

I think it is unlocked, and soff

Since you are S-off and unlocked, simple flash a Stock Verizon Rom after that, install Stock Recovery and THEN
perform a Factory reset* from phone or from stock recovery* so those Verizon radios will be restored.
Search how to...learn, read , read again enjoy it
here the Rom you need Stock VZW Rom Rooted http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-htc-one-m8/development/rom-stock-rooted-vzw-ota-2-21-605-2-wp-t2874699
here Stock Recovery https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23622183712470628

Thanks,
Yes I need to do a lot of reading before I try and flash this phone. I am happy to know that it is fixable. I must say this has to be the best forum I have participated on. I generally am on old car forums. You guys have all been great help. As I learn I can bet I will be asking for a lot more help.. Lol

Or perhaps the RUU from @dottat would get you there all in one shot. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2873144. Good luck

Yea, but if you do root you'll carrier unlock your phone and be rooted plus saves you about 20 bucks or so from buying a unlock code

You can call AT&T and they will give you the unlock code for free. I did it yesterday for my phone.

i really wish you would take 5 minutes to let all this sink in.....
you seem hellbent on NOT listening to the advice of others, but i will waste my breath anyway:
YOU WERE UNLOCKED
if you root, YOU WILL BE UNLOCKED
custom rom, stock rom, it doesnt matter
have you bothered trying to get TMobile to replace your freakin sim as suggested?
have you done ANYTHING that anyone has suggested to you aside from flashing a custom rom?
no
you fail to listen
you seem to think an unlock code is going to help you...its not
run the hack kit, get s-off and flash a rom of your choice. walk into a freaking TMobile store, and ask for a new freaking SIM card
have THEM help you understand why its not dialing out....you got it to call out a few times...THAT MEANS YOU WERE UNLOCKED!!
if it was locked, you would get NO signal, NO data, NOTHING AT ALL....you wouldnt even be able to make a phone call once!!
why dont you understand that?? why cant you grasp that??
as i asked you before, you are aware that you will NOT get 3G/4G data right??
can someone here tell me why i'm not able to call out even though i'm unlocked? someone else had this problem also.. he has the same situation like me.

well, since your threads are so spread out....its impossible to keep up with what you have actually done for troubleshooting. if i remember right, you never flashed a new radio...
A new radio wouldn't matter. I got a question trappz do you have signal. If you have signal go into T-Mobile and request the new simcard. But you will still not get 3g/4g data due to the different base and frequencies they run off.

hi, hiyabuz.. i dont have signal... but when i get signal, its there for like 4 secs then it disappears.. and i already tried using another friend's sim card. hes got tmobile.. and that didnt work either.
Ok that right there is telling us that your network is being blocked or your just in a very low coverage area for edge which is their bottom teir data/signal. This phone is not compatable with all of T-Mobiles network so your service can be shotty. It's worth a shot of getting a new sim or doing a new radio flash which could boost your service. If that doesn't work we can always try and troubleshoot more to see if the phone is just bad.

well i installed a "factory" rom (note the quotes) to replace the custom rom on it so i can s-on and unroot. the link to that "factory" rom is:
RUU_Ace_Gingerbread_S_Cingular_US_2.47.502.7_Radio _12.56.60.25_26.10.04.03_M
but when i go into hboot, i still find my phone is s-off and rooted.
i dont understand why the above rom is "factory" when its really not. then someone suggested i run a 'gene poole tool' to reset to factory an d get s-on and unroot.. but i think i ran that before cuz i got that tool on my desktop. this is getting to be one of the worst experiences i ever had on any phone.
i'll let you know what happens.
The rom didn't give you s-on because when you use gfree to get s-off (which the hack kit does) you have to use gfree to get s-on. You should use this to get s-on:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1208507
The ruu is factory. If you don't believe me go to HTC website and the download is there as well. The ruu rom doesn't touch soff. You are unrooted though

[Q] Newbie again

Hi guys
I am new and never flash firmware on HTC before.
I have go HTC one XL from hongkong unlocked with JB (just recently got the official download) but not happy with the data connection speed and it is very slow for some reason. ICS was better than the Hongkong official JB release unfortunately.
Since I am in Australia I want to flash my firmware with the stock rooted Telstra [ROM] 01/01/13 Stock rooted odexed JB Telstra_WWE_3.17.841.2.
Can some one pls point me to the right direction - I am not sure where to start (previously I own SG2 and flashed firmware no issues).
I am aware that there are more options on how to flash in HTC I am abit worried that I might follow the incorrect steps
Thank you
Unfortunately, some changes were deployed in the official JB update which causes the touch screen to not function if you try changing to any ROM that is not also Sense JB. So currently, if you flash an ICS ROM, the touch screen will not work.
Devs may be working on this. But its more likely that it won't be solved until we have kernel source for JB. Until the issue is fixed, you are stuck with Sense JB ROMs.
If you still want to be able to flash custom ROMs, the proper sequence is:
- Unlock bootloader at HTCDev.com
- Install TWRP recovery
- Download custom ROM, and copy to phone's SD
- Flash ROM in TWRP
- Flash boot.img using fastboot

You need to read until it makes sense as a complete newbie will just end up bricking the phone.
You do need to unlock the bootloader. Your phone may be "unlocked" in relation to allowing any SIM from any provider, but that is 100% unrelated to unlocking the bootloader.
The Telstra 3.17 is unlikely to make any difference to the Hong Kong based 3.17. They are almost identical except for the few Telstra apps included.
Have you checked that your APN is set to telstra.wap so that LTE will function? The Hong Kong phones ship with incorrect settings for Telstra.
You could refer to this link for help, but ignore it's advise to set telstra.internet as that is incorrect(it is only for 4g modems, not phones) and will prevent some Telstra apps from working correctly:
https://support.mobicity.com.au/ent...up-the-htc-one-xl-on-telstra-s-4g-lte-network
Also you should check Telstras coverage as LTE is only available in limited areas.
http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/coverage-networks/our-coverage/mobile-broadband/
Beyond these suggestions you should take up your speed issues with Telstra.

I already answered this in post #2 above. Don't know why you are asking the same question again.
Twisteddx beat me to answering your other questions, and I agree with all he said.
You're confusing unlocking the SIM versus unlocking the bootloader. SIM unlocked just means you can use SIMs for any carrier. Bootloader unlock removed write protection for certain partitions of the memory, allowing you to install custom recovery, custom ROMs, etc. SIM unlock and BL unlock are not related in any way.
I'm not a huge fan of simple tutorials. They invite you to try mods with a minimum of knowledge, which is really the opposite of what you should do. Read up, and learn as much as you can, as twisted mentioned, you will be performing things that can cause permanent damage to the phone if not done completely properly. You need to have a deep understanding of what you are doing before you start. Even if you follow the steps to the letter, things all-to-often go awry. And being armed with as much knowledge as possible is the best way to prepare for such events.
The amount of information can be daunting, for sure. But once you become more familiar with the terms and basic concepts, you will probably see its actually not that complicated. Maybe start with some of the "Misc Guides" at the bottom of the 1st post of my Index thread, such as the Terminology glossary. Look at other posts by similar users in Q&A, and go from there.

[Q] Considering getting the phone and I have a custom recovery question

I am strongly considering getting the Verizon m8 today, but before I do there is one thing I need to clarify:
If I get this phone today is flashing a custom recovery/ROM possible?
I am asking this because before I got my current phone (Verizon S4) I checked on the forums and saw all the talk about custom recoveries and custom ROMs and got all excited and bought the phone. When I got the phone however I became aware that all of this was only possible up until some OTA update after which custom recoveries became impossible, and since I had a newest phone straight from verizon withg the latest updates I could not do any of those things.
So, can someone confirm that to the best of the publics knowledge all this is still possible? This will make or break my decision to get the phone.
Thanks
P.S. if there anything else that you think I should know, like stuff you wished someone told you before you got the phone, please dont hesitate to mention those things as well.
Yes this phone is able to be unlocked (soff) and load a custom recovery. There are two methods one is free Firewater and the other is $25 sunshine if the Free option fails to work for you for some reason.

Advice on Rooting & a clean ROM for Verizon M8

Hi All,
I've had the M8 from Verizon for over a year. I bought this unlocked from the US but am using it in Europe (Denmark) with another service provider. However, as you know Verizon has its bloatware on it and various restrictions that do not let me use the wifi hotspot, USB tethering, etc. Apart from various nagging issues, the most annoying is that I haven't been able to upgrade the ROM (due to another Verizon restriction). And I'm still stuck with OS - 4.4.2.
The questions I need advice on:
1) I want to have a clean ROM and still have the facility to update my OS OTA every time google releases an upgrade.
2) I understand this requires root on my device. If so, what is the best root method for this device? There were a lot of methods around and I'm honestly confused.
I have attemted to root my last HTC One X and succeded after a while. But then when I tried tranferring the phone's data via the built in transfer data app..the phone froze and bricked itself in a way. As I had this device with me by then, I did not spend time to recover the One X, yet. Therefore, my apprehension to get a ROM that I will not need to worry about too much and it would be clean and let my phone function efficiently and without any nags.
Any and all advice will be appreciated!
Thank you.

are you S-OFF? check in bootloader. turn off device. hold volume down and power to enter bootloader and it will say S-ON or S-OFF.
If you are not S-OFF you the only way to get root is using Sunshine - http://theroot.ninja/ - it costs a very fair $25.
After that you can flash custom recovery and then flash ROMs that have tethering unlocked in the ROM.
you can also without root or anything and being S-ON flash the latest Verizon RUU and get your phone up to date instead of being on KK, we now have MM. - http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-htc-one-m8/general/official-ruu1-55-605-2-t2883845

Hi andybones,
Thank you. Sorry for the delay.
The bootloader says S-On.
Do you suggest flashing a stock ROM? What about the bloatware and the restrictions from Verizon?
Secondly, will it be possible to get the OTA updates if I have a clean ROM? If so, any suggestions on a clean and efficient ROM that would get me the OTAs automatically and not have the hassle to flash new ROMs as quite simply I hate having to add my google and other account details keyed in each time I flash and have a new ROM.
Thank you for your reply.

Help with SM-G920W8 (CDN)

I rec'd a SM-G920W8 model from my cousin. Its on Fido but I have a Rogers SIM card. I would like to simply unlock the phone and use it on Rogers instead and if possible, update the phone to a newer ROM/Android version but to have it still on Rogers after the fact. The phone has following details:
Android Version: 5.1.1 (stock)
Baseband: G920W8VLU3BOJ7
Im sure there are a guides for this on here, I did find one for a bootloader unlock from Mr. X on here, but I wasnt sure which bootloader file to download and thought I would ask if someone could please point me to the right direction as I simply dont want to brick a phone.
Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated by this newbie!
Thanks!
Are you sure it needs to be unlocked? Telus and Koodo phones as well as Bell and Virgin work on either network without unlocking.

You are right!
I just did what you suggested and its working now. I didnt think this was possible as the last Fido phone I had I had to unlock it.
Thanks for the suggestion! Much appreciated. I guess if I wanted to now just install a new ROM or update the Android platform on it, I can do that.
Yes. I'm running stock nougat on mine. It still receives updates ota without issue despite being a telus phone on koodo. I can root it and install a custom Rom anytime but it works fine and I don't want to wipe it right now. Too much important data. Online dating and texting several different girls I need to keep all my texts for future reference lol.
