[Mod] Bravia engine for Better picture taking and video recording - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

ive already posted a modded camera with a modded mediaprofiles.xml for better camera abilities, but after doing lots of research here is another mod to add on top that will make your camera top of the line
ESPECIALLY in darker settings(SINCE THE SGS4G DOESNT HAVE A FLASH)
originally the .zip comes from temasek HOWEVER i revised the script to work for our phone
Directions:
download
put onto sdcard
go into cwm
flash
enjoy
It will automatically be set in, so just use your camera
Thanks:
temasek
Sony

Downloading and flashing! I hope for this cam to be faster.
Edit: Done, it works.

dsex does it again lol
Thank's aren't asked for but aappreciated

.................

Will any apps (3rd party camera apps specifically) take advantage of the mediaprofiles.xml file?

No. That's one of the ICINB ROMs. Try this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1482892
Didn't see lumin already had the link up. Should of looked closer.

Dammit, dsexton702, you've done it again!
Just to clarify, is this the same camera tweak as the one in the link above?

the bravia engine has never been introduced to the sgs4g yet, the camera mod with the xml file from the booster should be the same from the ICBINB one

I'm blown away at the quality of this plus your other modded camera. Once again dsexton, I bow to your talents.

The quality of the Camera is not great at all - so I was so happy to find this post...
Is there any way I can apply this mode without flashing? For example - something like the way APKs are installed. Or pushed somehow ?
I have a rooted SGS4G but no CWM.
I do apologize if my questions sound stupid. I don't have that much experience. Just enough to root my phone and remove the bloat...

Why not flash a Dr.Honk kernel with Odin and you will get cwm/ ext 4 and voodoo? If you need help you could always message me and I'd be willing to help

Why would he flash Dr. Honks kernel? Why Odin?
If he is rooted on GB he can use SGS Kernel Flasher to get one of BH kernels with CWM.
There are detailed directions here.
We need to keep it simple for noobs

Call me noob or even better - call me lazy
I was just trying to find out if there is an easy way to "install the mod" for the camera....Avoiding flashing and using different kernels...
It's a shame having such a Camera and not using its full potential.
I don't know how difficult it could be for a Developer to create an APK.
Think everybody having SGS4G will really appreciate having such an APK installed on his/her phone...
Another thought (if its possible to create such an APK) - why don't you put it on the Android Market? Suppose there are a lot of SGS4G owners that are not familiar with this forum ...
lumin30 -> thanks for the link
BTW - I've read almost all the posts in the section for the SGS4G... I just don't want to "dig deeper" in my phone. Rooting and tweaking it is enough for me. I'm not a big fan of Overclocking...

Well the tweaks we've put together make overclocking useless,
there are apks out there that install tweaks such as sdcard booster which installs the readahead tweak, but really cwm is the best way to flash tweaks
As for your answer you can get the apk root explorer or any other file manager with root access and move the files to their appropriate place as well as fix their permissions, but you would really have to know what your doing to use that method which is why flashing is actually the easiest ways for users even noobs :/ its a complex tweak
If you need help I know the community/ myslef would be more than happy to assist you so that you could enjoy your phone that much more

If I remember correctly to open a dev account with google to post things, even free things, costs like 50 bucks. Then you have the issue of people installing down rating and possibly reporting it as a fake/fraud.
Even if you post it and forget it that is money out of your pocket. And a potential for people to attempt to defame you.
I know this because I helped a friend create a theme for golauncher and OMFG the headaches. Finally just pulled it. It was limited using the tools provided by google and still had people *****ing and moaning about it not working on their phone...
BTW just because you install a custom kernel doesnt mean you HAVE to OC. It gives the option and opens the doors to other improvements.

[Q] MIUI , what if ...

Hi guys
I would appreciate if someone [dev] can give me some answers on this ...
Now that we have full CWM , thanks to the devs [@gtg465x]
How about following instructions to flash lastest MIUI for Galaxy S I9000 , using the actual installation guide > http://j.mp/iZSjlh , and try this ROM on the Infuse
Is the Galaxy S I9000 the closest phone [specs] we can have to try this ?
Some step(s) in that guide to be replaced or skipped ?
Worth to try it?
Would it work ?
Would I brick the phone?
I if brick it , would I still be able to un-brick using ODIN [back to factory]
TIA

Would be very interested in this as well, but not enough to try bricking my phone .
I wouldn't try it.
Just because the partition layout of the original Galaxy S is the same as our device, it does not mean the kernel is compatible.
The current roms are all based on the stock kernel and do not change any of the core of how the device works. We still have TouchWiz built in and won't be changing that until we have custom kernel built and working on this device.
On the other hand, we can flash back to stock with Odin, so you won't completely fubar your phone if you try.

Your right about kernel compatibility , so 1st step not using speedmod kernel [used @ guide]
But I would like to know if the native MIUI kernel used @ the galaxy S is like a "modded kernel" they used to port that rom .. or if its a kind of "universal kernel" ?? . I dont know if Im making myself clear

If the partition layout changes, cannot promise Odin will fix it. Pit, boot.bin and sbl.bin pulled from a phone to flash will most likely cause a hard brick. We need a leaked one-click, or some very crazy testers willing to brick phones left and right to test that. I don't recommend it.

Not a problem. When a new phone comes out....here's what happens:
1. Root
2. SBF/ODIN
3. CWM recovery
4. Psuedo ROMs based on stock.
5. Source Code drops.
6. Custom kernels (w/CWM built in)
7. Ports for MIUI/CM7/Sense/etc.
In 3 weeks, the community as a whole has completely done steps 1-5. (Usually takes a couple of months).
Next big focus has to be custom kernels. I helped out with some of the initial stuff for CM7 on Captivate before I bought an Atrix, then the Infuse. I'm going to be doing alot of reading and trying to learn alot more about git. Then I will be able to look into kernels. Team Whiskey had some guys working on a kernel with CWM + VooDoo lagfix written up...but I havent heard anything in a few days. So....be patient, its coming! .

We are closer then ! cool , cant wait to run MIUI @ Infuse
Like others said, we will need a custom kernel for MIUI. However, the Infuse is very similar to the original Galaxy S. I bet it would be really easy to port 2.2.1 Galaxy S ROMs. They would probably boot right up and work fine if you just remove the kernel from them and swap out a few files (ril, camera libs, key layouts).

Hey I have one theme in mind, can you give me the details of these files?

Key layouts I got...
Camera libs? where are those located?
ril? what is that and where?
Thanks much appreciated.

I'm used to HTC devices so I can't tell you the exact names of the ril and camera libs on a Samsung device without looking, but they will be in /system/lib. You may also have to swap a few files in /system/etc. Just takes research and then trial and error. I suggest grabbing a GS 2.2.1 ROM, removing the kernal (and modem if that's included) (will have to remove corresponding parts of updater-script as well), and then flashing. Adb logcat will help you to debug and fix issues from there.

We have been looking for a new device to port MIUI to. If there is enough demand for the Infuse 4G we'll pick one up.
If you guys manage to get it ported we'll create a device forum for you and host your roms, etc. If you need porting help/advice, or just want to talk about MIUI, join our IRC channel #miui-us on Freenode (details in my signature) and look for someone with a + in front of their name (those are the developers).
Anyway, hope to see you guys running MIUI soon!
Now this is what im talking about. If you guys have stuff to test ill snag it up and try it. Cant write but I can install it and test for ya. Not really scared to brick it. Plus its insured. Anyway good luck cant wait for it!!!

Would you or one of the other devs be willing to post an intro guide or something in order to help get more developers here?
I know you guys are probably busy working on your roms as well as work/school/doing other things, but it probably wouldn't take too long to make a short intro to help us get started. That way we could hopefully get some more devs around here.
I've been reading others guides and posts about it and I could probably do at least a little work from the start based on what they say is involved in making a rom, but the biggest problem for me is not knowing how to get going. It seems like you need an android kitchen to do a lot of the work but all of the kitchens look like they are phone specific so I don't want to try using one if those on the infuse. Maybe they aren't, but info like that to help us get our feet wet would be extremely helpful.

Rooting/roms/flashing HELP

Hi. Im fairly new to the Android OS. I just switched from an iphone. And ive been seeing/hearing a lot of talk about rooting, flashing roms, etc. I know that there are probably many threads on this, but I just wanted to know what are the pros and cons of rooting, flashing roms and such. And if I decide to do so, how do I? What rom would be best (for my sgs4g)? Sorry if this was too muxh to ask. Thanks in advance

Well right now, the best ROM you can have is Gingerbread, which just came out recently.
Rooting is very similar to Jailbreaking when it comes to iPhone; it allows you to perform speed tweaks, and enable functionality not available on standard software.
As for flashing these ROMs, make sure you download a program called ODIN.
Before that, install the Samsung USB Drivers and read THIS.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849028
I compiled a few tutorials on some various tweaks on my site as well, and have a few download links for files if you need them.
Good luck!

Im not sure that Gingerbread would be the best choice right now for someone just starting out. It appears that the ROM that whitehawkx just releases still has a few bugs to be worked out. I would say that Bionix is probably a better choice for the moment.
Hah thanks. But I just had a few more questions. Do I need to be rooted to install gingerbread? Is flashing necessary? And is installing the new software just as easy as jailbreaking like an iphone?

First off. Post in the correct section. This belongs in General. Please try searching before making a new thread. You know that this has been answered several times in multiple threads. I came from and Iphone too and I took the time to do the research. First just go to the Bible for SGS 4G. You'll find it here in this section. Make sure you read everything. I too was a noob but I took the time to read everything before posting a new thread on what's been answered just for your convenience.

I would suggest doing TONS of reading on all the topics related to flashing/rooting/etc... Another reason why I think Gingerbread would be a bad choice for you right now is because I don't think ClockworkMod works with it yet. Without CWM you won't be able to do things like installing zips from your SD card and doing complete backups of your phone in case you mess something up. Yes, you will need to be rooted in order to flash to a new ROM. Flashing is only necessary if you want a ROM. Like what you have? Then don't flash.
Android is a pretty easy OS to use when you get used to it. But make sure that you take it slow and read everything carefully. Hope this helps.
Thanks for all the feedback everyone.. I'll be sure to look into this morw before I decide what to do.

Ehh, I've been running on Gingerbread and aside from a single bluetooth issue, I really have no complaints.
Bionix is a good choice too, though. You may be right in suggesting that as a beginners ROM.
So, Go with Bionix, edwenoid, it'll allow you to do many more tweaks.
Remember, this might seem pretty complicated at first, but I've had a Galaxy S 4G for only about a month now and i'm not too bad at this whole tweaking thingamajig

*****NOT A CWM FLASHABLE ZIP*******
I tried to make a rom based off ACS-ICS v2, because my GPS was working.
However something in the rom still is off. I had no GPS. My Nandroid backup however restored my GPS.
So here is my first attempt at a Rom/Nandroid:
Based of of ACS-ICS - marcusant
-Official 2.3.5
-No CiQ (k0nane)
-Rooted
-EXT4
-IAP's EI22 Kernel* Basic OC/UV to 1200* (earthbound[iap] )
-DeOdexed (xBTx)
-Juwe RAM Tweak (Juwe11)
-3G TurboCharger (zeppelinrox)
I added:
•SGS4G Adrenaline Shot (Dsexton702)
•ASOP Sytle Lock Screen (ICS Themed to match ACS ICS Rom)
•ACS ICS Launcher 4.0
•LogProvider Fix
•AppWidget Picker
My appoligies to anyone I forgot.
If this works to get the GPS going for some,
Hopefully we can use it to figure out why ACS ICS kills the GPS.
Thanks bodi524

Correct me if i'm wrong but, I expect it's a Nandroid backup that may need to be extract into your CWM backup file and you just have to do a restore of it in CWM. I'd be sure to make a nandroid of your current rom before applying any other rom.
Working great for me no issues...thank you

Semantics. It's this attitude that sends new users, that could be of benefit in the future, running away from development.
In the time it took you to chastise this guy, you could have just as easily pointed him to the right place to do as you suggested.
Who are you to judge what skill is, who are you and what have you ever contributed?

Geez. You didn't have to change the title to delete. I kinda fell bad that everybody was bashing on you now. I am perfectly fine with you branching off and starting your own rom... I have nothing against it because you gave proper credit. I didn't mean to sound mean or anything like that... All work should be shared and different people like different things. Anyways, I also suggest that you learn how to extract a nandroid or create a rom without one.

Making a cwm flashable is easy. There are many tutorials/how-tos out there. I could've made a number of "roms," but everytime I wanted to put something out I always realized that it wasn't development. I dont remember where I heard this but someone said that development isn't deleting apk's theming and calling it a rom.

All I was doing was a FIRST TRY! Atleat I was willing to give it a shot on my own!...and was working to try to make improvements for all epic users. If that offends you all well then too bad.
Since I uploaded this I did figure out how to create a CWM zip and expand a nandroid.
For those that did try it I thank you...glad someone got some use from it. Will probably be my last.

The first rom I posted was an early branch off of another popular rom. Despite clarifying my intentions, stating my immaturity, and giving all due credit, a mod deleted my thread without warning. Rather annoying, since the toughest part of doing all this was assembling a clear and informative thread.
I have since moved the majority of my information and all my download links to a separate site, courtesy of another less whiny forum.
While I cannot condone if someone were to rip off an entire rom and claim the work to be all their own, I also cannot condemn an effort by someone attempting to learn and share.
Android is, after all, open source.
Unfortunately, XDA is a tough crowd. You'll want to be a little more prepared before you launch a Rom thread if you're not ready for the backlash.

Don't get discouraged and keep up the good work!!!!! You are doing a great job.
I, for one, thank you for your effort. Don't let the self-rightous spoiled children on this site get you down, keep trying to get better and learn.

[mod] - ics init.d stapler -7/29/2012-

WHAT THE HECK IS THIS?
If you are one of the many ICS users (or devs), you may have noticed that it is very difficult to make your tweaks (v6 and car-o-dope especially) stick. Whether or not these tweaks are actually needed is up to the user/dev, i'm just here to bring you the solution to a minor ICS issue.
WHAT THE HECK DOES THIS DO?
This is a flashable .zip file that will essentially inject (or staple as I like to say) the support of the INIT.D script into your current ICS rom. As I said above, this SHOULD (YMMV) allow the support of any tweaks that require the INIT.D script.
WHAT THE HECK SHOULD I DO?
I AM IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM RESPONSIBLE FOR YOU BREAKING YOUR EVO 4G USING THIS MOD!
In order from start to finish:
-Download the .zip file from the download section.
-Place .zip file in the root of your SD card.
-Boot your ICS rom into any AMON RA based recovery.
-(OPTIONAL) Wipe dalvik/cache.
-Flash the .zip file!
-(OPTIONAL) Wipe dalvik/cache.
-Apply your favorite tweaks.
-Enjoy and report any success/failure to this thread.

Go ahead and use it dude!
As a matter of fact, if any devs would like to include this modification in their Rom(s), shoot me a PM and I will give you a brief idea of what needs to be baked in.
Another option is to post my thread or download link in your ICS Rom thread.
Make sure to give credit!

Thanks for giving it a try!
I also wanted to add that this should work for Jelly bean too. I have not tested it though, so if someone is on jelly bean and would like to answer this question, post your results.

Let me ask you this.......do you even own an HTC EVO4G? Judging from your signature and the last 50 or so posts......the answer is NO!
Keep it moving and go troll somewhere else! Who counts up how many MBs of signature pictures people got??? GET A LIFE DUDE!!
If you got a serious hard on for me then hit the triangle button and I'll talk to a moderator about it, until then like I said....keep it moving pimpin'

Just curious on what tge point Is with this. 99% of ics and jb roms have init.d Support already. Am I missing something. Its kinda standard these days

Every ICS ROM I've flashed, since the beginning of ICS to when I put this out, did not stick with my tweaks.
I made this for myself and decided to release it for the community.
It may be standard now, but I know a few devs have asked to include this in their ROMs, so there is the point lol.

Rooting and dev stuff in layman's term

Disclaimer: I am far from being a dev of any sort, so take this post with a large serving of information reading elsewhere. I am not responsible for anything that happens to you or your phone, good or bad.
**If this thread helped you, simply click the "thank you" button and leave a reply if you wish.**
I had a really hard time entering the rooting and ROMming scene when I first got the phone, but I am now relatively confident in my rooting and ROMming. One of the reasons I had a hard time at first was simply not knowing what anything was or meant. Even after a lot of reading, I still didn't feel like I knew what I was doing (I simply followed instructions and did things to my phone aimlessly). Nonetheless, everything I post here can likely be found in a sticky or in another thread, but probably in more technical terms; I simply want this thread to be informative to a new user.
With that being said, here are a few things to help the truly new-to-the-scene guys (and gals) here:
********************************************************************************************************************************************************************
Definitions:
Root: essentially gives you the ability to access every nook and cranny of your phone and customize lots of stuff.
ROM: kind of the like the operating system on computers; there are many different ones, but find the one suitable for your needs.
imunts: some really cool dude who developed some really cool stuff for our really cool phone; he's done much for us, so he gets his own line here
kernel: the link between your phones software and hardware; comparable to the nervous system of animals by relaying info between the mind and body
flash: basically like installing something on your computer; everything installed or flashed onto electronics has its dangers and risks (and benefits).
recovery: kind of like the "safe mode" on your PC. Incase SHTF, recoveries can be used to save your phone in most cases.
dwitherell: another cool dev who made a really cool ROM by the name of Tweaked
OTA: Over The Air; typically refers to the updates being pushed upon our phones wirelessly from the heavens... or wherever data comes from
Odin: a program used to flash things onto your phone by using your computer; I personally see this as your computer being the brain and your phone being a temporary zombie that takes commands.
CWM (ClockWorkMod Recovery): a custom recovery that must be flashed onto your phone to replace the stock recovery if you want to flash ROMs, backup or restore your phone.

Everything you need (all files and instructions) to go FROM BONE STOCK TO ROMMED WITH TWEAKED can be found within those three links above. Please take the time to read/search a bit before asking questions. It's likely been asked 654354 times before and it will even help you learn a lot in the process.

I have not developed anything for the phones, nor am I taking any credit for making the tutorials or providing the files associated with the above material.
I will update this as I have more time.
Again, if this helped you, just click the "thank you" button or leave a reply. Also, go and let the devs know how much you appreciate their work and time by visiting their threads and thanking them with a reply or something also. Otherwise, we may never get any advances to our software (like I dunno... ICS or something)
Rice923, I'd post links for peeps to go and read. There's some threads already going on that explain to detail how to have the latest greatest phone avalaible ( Tweaked). Seems like there's a batch of people gone through this (modding) and a batch new to the game. Thank you.

Yeah go for it. If anything I'll add the links to the OP. I had a few links to YouTube vids on how to root and how to go back to stock unroot (both videos worked everytime I've used them without fail). I forgot who made he video but proper credit will be given to the Guy who made it.

There was some confusion as to whether or not it would be called 2.3 or 3.0. That post was probably before dwitherell cleared that up.
