***DELETE*** - Epic 4G Android Development

*****NOT A CWM FLASHABLE ZIP*******
I tried to make a rom based off ACS-ICS v2, because my GPS was working.
However something in the rom still is off. I had no GPS. My Nandroid backup however restored my GPS.
So here is my first attempt at a Rom/Nandroid:
Based of of ACS-ICS - marcusant
-Official 2.3.5
-No CiQ (k0nane)
-Rooted
-EXT4
-IAP's EI22 Kernel* Basic OC/UV to 1200* (earthbound[iap] )
-DeOdexed (xBTx)
-Juwe RAM Tweak (Juwe11)
-3G TurboCharger (zeppelinrox)
I added:
•SGS4G Adrenaline Shot (Dsexton702)
•ASOP Sytle Lock Screen (ICS Themed to match ACS ICS Rom)
•ACS ICS Launcher 4.0
•LogProvider Fix
•AppWidget Picker
My appoligies to anyone I forgot.
If this works to get the GPS going for some,
Hopefully we can use it to figure out why ACS ICS kills the GPS.
Thanks bodi524

Thanks for doing this! Hopefully I can get someone in ACS to come up with a new kernel. I will hopefully work on my rom today.

No problems.
If it helps figure out the GPS Issue and move things forward I am happy.
I have been using the ACS ICS EH17 Rom for a while.
No Using the EI22 version with some tweaks. Look forward to
newer versions soon.

Why would you do this? This isn't development. You could've at least made a cwm zip. What the heck has xda come to.

Correct me if i'm wrong but, I expect it's a Nandroid backup that may need to be extract into your CWM backup file and you just have to do a restore of it in CWM. I'd be sure to make a nandroid of your current rom before applying any other rom.
Working great for me no issues...thank you

I know this is a clockworkmod backup. All I'm saying is wtf. He could've at least made a cwm flashable. This took no skill AT ALL. This doesn't deserve its own thread. Maybe in off topic, or the ics thread. But no.

Comment removed as I noticed that it seemed mean and that was not the intention at all...

I just wanted to add that I got this last night before v3 or 3.5 were posted and it really seems rock solid. GPS is excellent too.
Debating whether I want to install 3.5... hmmmmm

Semantics. It's this attitude that sends new users, that could be of benefit in the future, running away from development.
In the time it took you to chastise this guy, you could have just as easily pointed him to the right place to do as you suggested.
Who are you to judge what skill is, who are you and what have you ever contributed?

It's not useless IMHO...I'm still running with it with no problems after taking out the bloatwares. Of course, I did have to do the gps fix but, that was something minimal to me. I'm happy with this rom as is. Thanks for it.

Geez. You didn't have to change the title to delete. I kinda fell bad that everybody was bashing on you now. I am perfectly fine with you branching off and starting your own rom... I have nothing against it because you gave proper credit. I didn't mean to sound mean or anything like that... All work should be shared and different people like different things. Anyways, I also suggest that you learn how to extract a nandroid or create a rom without one.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App

Making a cwm flashable is easy. There are many tutorials/how-tos out there. I could've made a number of "roms," but everytime I wanted to put something out I always realized that it wasn't development. I dont remember where I heard this but someone said that development isn't deleting apk's theming and calling it a rom.

All I was doing was a FIRST TRY! Atleat I was willing to give it a shot on my own!...and was working to try to make improvements for all epic users. If that offends you all well then too bad.
Since I uploaded this I did figure out how to create a CWM zip and expand a nandroid.
For those that did try it I thank you...glad someone got some use from it. Will probably be my last.

The first rom I posted was an early branch off of another popular rom. Despite clarifying my intentions, stating my immaturity, and giving all due credit, a mod deleted my thread without warning. Rather annoying, since the toughest part of doing all this was assembling a clear and informative thread.
I have since moved the majority of my information and all my download links to a separate site, courtesy of another less whiny forum.
While I cannot condone if someone were to rip off an entire rom and claim the work to be all their own, I also cannot condemn an effort by someone attempting to learn and share.
Android is, after all, open source.
Unfortunately, XDA is a tough crowd. You'll want to be a little more prepared before you launch a Rom thread if you're not ready for the backlash.

Looking for testers

I notice theres no custom roms yet or anything. I'm not a skilled dev or anything but right now im throwing together a deodexed stock rom, as well as a 1% battery mod.
I don't have a sidekick (my girlfriend does) so I cannot test it. Anyone willing to be my guinea pig?
I partially used a script with my deodexing since i dont have much time today so there might be a few FC's on some apps.
Maybe once I get more familiar with kernels and stuff i'll try and make a fully custom rom/kernel. I need a hobby anyways .
Or should I just post it up in the dev forum with giant red warning letters?
"Why are you here if you don't have a sidekick?" I have an epic4g and Learned a bit about android dev from there. The devs there are great and have the job covered. This is a new phone and and empty forum, figured i'd try and start off here and maybe my girl will let me put a rom i made on her phone :3
EDIT: PM me or post for a download link

ACS updater, Developers please submit your themes

Developers for the Evo please take a look at the ACS Updater created by the ACS team.
It is said to revolutionize the way we flash roms, themes, kernels.

Check this link out and see if it interest you at all. I'm sure the evo community would thank you for it.

Hey man this is nice! I actually saw this about a month ago but didn't want to risk trying it on the Evo. It's a very good idea though because a while back, I wished we had something similar to "ROM Manager" that we could use without clockwork recovery. I may give it a shot when I update my theme. Thanks!

[mod] - ics init.d stapler -7/29/2012-

WHAT THE HECK IS THIS?
If you are one of the many ICS users (or devs), you may have noticed that it is very difficult to make your tweaks (v6 and car-o-dope especially) stick. Whether or not these tweaks are actually needed is up to the user/dev, i'm just here to bring you the solution to a minor ICS issue.
WHAT THE HECK DOES THIS DO?
This is a flashable .zip file that will essentially inject (or staple as I like to say) the support of the INIT.D script into your current ICS rom. As I said above, this SHOULD (YMMV) allow the support of any tweaks that require the INIT.D script.
WHAT THE HECK SHOULD I DO?
I AM IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM RESPONSIBLE FOR YOU BREAKING YOUR EVO 4G USING THIS MOD!
In order from start to finish:
-Download the .zip file from the download section.
-Place .zip file in the root of your SD card.
-Boot your ICS rom into any AMON RA based recovery.
-(OPTIONAL) Wipe dalvik/cache.
-Flash the .zip file!
-(OPTIONAL) Wipe dalvik/cache.
-Apply your favorite tweaks.
-Enjoy and report any success/failure to this thread.

Every ICS ROM I've flashed, since the beginning of ICS to when I put this out, did not stick with my tweaks.

Rooting and dev stuff in layman's term

Disclaimer: I am far from being a dev of any sort, so take this post with a large serving of information reading elsewhere. I am not responsible for anything that happens to you or your phone, good or bad.
**If this thread helped you, simply click the "thank you" button and leave a reply if you wish.**
I had a really hard time entering the rooting and ROMming scene when I first got the phone, but I am now relatively confident in my rooting and ROMming. One of the reasons I had a hard time at first was simply not knowing what anything was or meant. Even after a lot of reading, I still didn't feel like I knew what I was doing (I simply followed instructions and did things to my phone aimlessly). Nonetheless, everything I post here can likely be found in a sticky or in another thread, but probably in more technical terms; I simply want this thread to be informative to a new user.
With that being said, here are a few things to help the truly new-to-the-scene guys (and gals) here:
********************************************************************************************************************************************************************
Definitions:
Root: essentially gives you the ability to access every nook and cranny of your phone and customize lots of stuff.
ROM: kind of the like the operating system on computers; there are many different ones, but find the one suitable for your needs.
imunts: some really cool dude who developed some really cool stuff for our really cool phone; he's done much for us, so he gets his own line here
kernel: the link between your phones software and hardware; comparable to the nervous system of animals by relaying info between the mind and body
flash: basically like installing something on your computer; everything installed or flashed onto electronics has its dangers and risks (and benefits).
recovery: kind of like the "safe mode" on your PC. Incase SHTF, recoveries can be used to save your phone in most cases.
dwitherell: another cool dev who made a really cool ROM by the name of Tweaked
OTA: Over The Air; typically refers to the updates being pushed upon our phones wirelessly from the heavens... or wherever data comes from
Odin: a program used to flash things onto your phone by using your computer; I personally see this as your computer being the brain and your phone being a temporary zombie that takes commands.
CWM (ClockWorkMod Recovery): a custom recovery that must be flashed onto your phone to replace the stock recovery if you want to flash ROMs, backup or restore your phone.
********************************************************************************************************************************************************************
Links
To Root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1832040
To UNroot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPocqv9qWyw
Tweaked 3.2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895049
Everything you need (all files and instructions) to go FROM BONE STOCK TO ROMMED WITH TWEAKED can be found within those three links above. Please take the time to read/search a bit before asking questions. It's likely been asked 654354 times before and it will even help you learn a lot in the process.
********************************************************************************************************************************************************************
I have not developed anything for the phones, nor am I taking any credit for making the tutorials or providing the files associated with the above material.
I will update this as I have more time.
Again, if this helped you, just click the "thank you" button or leave a reply. Also, go and let the devs know how much you appreciate their work and time by visiting their threads and thanking them with a reply or something also. Otherwise, we may never get any advances to our software (like I dunno... ICS or something)

At least he's trying, unlike you who has nothing better to do than to laugh at things that are obviously a WIP. "LULZ I R GUNNA LAFF @ U CUZ U CNT DO WUT I WUNT U 2 DO!"

I would have kept my mouth shut if he fixed the op. Either [PORT][WIP] CM6 for the sidekick 4G or even [PORT][PRE-ALPHA] CM6 for the sidekick 4G. BETA is reserved for working ROMs/PORTS. This was obviously an epic fail.
He's also stated before he does not know how to modify kernels. In order to port cm6 you will need some kernel hacking skillz.

He also said this form of porting was documented to work, which it didn't in this particular case. And if you've forgotten, he can't test it. His SK4G is with bhundven. So, he couldn't have known that it was pre-alpha material.

What ever happened to bhudven? He's had the device for well over 5+ months already.

Life happened. He's got some personal affairs to deal with atm. He's made quite a bit of progress. Nothing bootable as far as I know, but every little baby step helps.

I'm pretty sure it took a month or less to boot CM6 on the SK4G, bootable.
Not +5 months.

Exactly my point I was trying to make.
That all depends on what he had to go through those last 5+ months. Assuming everything was peachy, yes, a month is feasible. But say, you had court battles and other stuff to worry about, do you think you could throw something workable together in a month? Doubt it. And if you say you can, prove it. Otherwise, you're full of yourself. I'm not gonna try myself, because like I have said before, i've only done small stuff and I know my own limitations. But by all means, go ahead and ridicule someone who is making a conscious effort and not just sitting back and waiting for someone else to do the work.
Btw, Happy Holidays/Merry Christmas to the both of you, despite your overinflated egos.
What 5+ month are you talking about? Phone was sent to Bhundven at the beginning of october, so it's 3-, not 5+. And yes, life's more important than ROMs.

Lol. You don't have the skill set to port CM to any device. Stop giving sk4g users false hope. Your worse then reactives epic fail of a cm6 ROM. Lulz.

Lol yeah I may not have the ability to port yet. But at least I'm trying, what are you doing?
