So as you all know, we have the center, left, right portions of our desktops. Is it possible to add additional space? I am sure this would require serious editing of the source code or whatever. Has anyone explored this idea?
I don't need anymore space, as I keep the apps that I use most of the time on the screen but the ones that I don't I just use the pull up menu.
left screen: work related stuff 4 things
center screen: standard phone stuff 7 things
right screen: fun and games 3 things

i dont really need more space either, but my thought was that once the widgets idea is expanded upon, we will need as much space as we can get. nevertheless, i think some people could make do with more space.
If the right people hear this idea.....we might get something
unfortunately....i am not one of those people...
yea I always thoguht 5 screens would be hot...an up and a down from the center home screen.
More Space would be cool, I like thee ability to make Folders and put them on the desktop, or even just create folders in the the applications scroll up, So II can seperate games from Utilities, and etc..

It is possible to create folders on the desktop... Just long press on the screen, choose shortcut and then folder...
Okay so we never accomplished an answer if the desktop can be extended? I know it can't be as simple as going in to change some numbers around, but is it possible for this to get done?
I'd prefer a winmo like 'cube'. Either the 4 sided style where you only have left/right and can spin a full 360, or the 6 sided dice style where you can spin a 360 in all directions(this could be a pain tho).
...But alas, I'm am also merely a dreamer with no dev skills wse :/
Yeah that would be pretty cool, but still have to figure out if its possible lol
i use folders to organize my apps works really well, what i would like is ability to put folders in folders, and to put folders in the application,
i think if we have more horizontal panels it would look more like the iphone, i like the top and bottom like the touch cube from WM
i'd just like to see a way to make the icons smaller so we can fit more on the screen. i think 4 on a row would be a good amount tbh.
probably wouldn't be that difficult to do either, once we get the xml files sorted out.

Can I rename that folder? Like games, and another Apps.

P.S. Nevermind, open folder, long presson folder name lets you rename. This is awesome, exactly what I was looking for, makes 6 icons on my desktop into 1.
Hi.
Does somebody know how to move games icons to Games folder? (For example "Autumn Dynasty" or "Jumba")
I do indeed
using the file explorer on the phone (these folders dont show up in windows) find the game exe in my device>program files>"folder name of program">
It will be here, probably the icon will be the games icon. Now hold your finger down on that for a few seconds until an menu pops up and select copy.
Now go to mydevice>windows>startmenu>programs>games and hold your thumb down in an empty space until the menu comes up again, and press "paste shortcut"
If you dont get something just ask again
I take it you mean just moving the shortcut icons from the start menu in to the games folder of the start menu. If the icon already exists in the start menu then its pretty much the same as above just go with the file explorer to \windows\start menu\programs "cut" the icon and "paste it in to the games folder.
BTW you can view the windows folder on your pc. You need to connect your phone through active sync then go to "control panel" on your pc, then "folder options" then go to "view" tab and deselect the "hide protected operating system files" Then using phone browser you can view the contents of the windows folder. It is however painfully slow to open and you run the risk of screwing up your device if you go round deleting things but it works none the less.

What so on the home screen, one of the 3 tabs is a like to the games folder? I found one way using resco explorer. Browse to windows/startmenu/programs and then hold your finger on the games folder till you get the menu pop up, select send to> start menu as shortcut. Then go to add a program on the home links and go to programs (instead of bookmarks or contacts) and the games folder will be there, the image will be the resco explorer image with the word games underneath it
Hope that helps, took me ages to work it out lol
Here is a link i created using THIS app. If you copy it to your start menu somewhere (\Windows\Start Menu\Programs.......) You can then assign it to the quick links. What it does is opens file explorer with arguements to take it to the games folder. Basically it opens file explorer in games folder of the start menu.
It does what resco does to create links but a bit more manual and its free.
Thanks! however the send to option is greyed out, not available.

Yes, it creates a shortcut to the games folder, but you can modify shortcuts and change the parameters. Just copy it to your PC and edit it.
Moving Icons Completely
Is it possible to move a games that I download to the game folder neat and clean (meaning without having a bunch of short cut to, short cut to, short cut to)?
Hi,
Just got my hd2 (tmobile) day before yesterday and its amazing, i can go on and on about it
on my previous winMo device i had spb mobile shell installed which allowed me to add a shortcut tab "my shortcuts" on the home screen clicking on which would open a window where i could have my favorite programs, contacts, docs etc in one place.
is this possible to do this on the home screen of sense UI, where there are 9 customizable tabs present or is it possible to put a shortcut of any folder on the home screen.
i ask this question because one of tabs on the home screen has a transformers icon on it, and clicking it takes me to the transformers folder on the sd card which has transformers 1 and 2. this same transformers icon/shortcut is also present in programs menu.
i added some mp4 files in the transformers folder on the sd card which has both movies and after doing that when i click on its icon it does direct me to its folder but only shows me the 2 movies not the added mp4 movies.
i hope iam able to explain myself
having a shortcut tab on the home screen which can add a shortcut to a folder would be very helping other than just having the stock program, bookmark, contact options.
thanks in advance.

Touch and hold over an Icon, and drag it off the screen to delete it. Tap to add a new shortcut.
Look into Cookies Home Tab editor to add more shortcuts
Explore folders, find and select program file and hold it, tap copy, now explore windows folder-startmenu- programs- edit- paste shortcut, done. Now you can add it to quick links. If I understand you right.

i have a couple of movies in my storage card and i would like to have an icon on my device to each movie on my storage card, that way i can put them in my quick links ,
The T-MoUS version, has Transformers pre-installed. it has a Transformers icon in the start menu that when selected, it opens a window with both movies lined up in a list type format located in the storage card . Is there a way to create your own?

i had to return mine today at the store because it had a small spot inside the screen, maybe a dead pixel, giving the same affect as you would see when you would sprinkle a drop of water on LCD.
the store reps. were acting up for a replacement saying that even when they get new onces they have already reserved them for new customers, also the tmobile (611) rep told me they would be able to help me had i purchased the phone online
so i returned it
Hi all, Im sorry if this has been covered before but ive been looking for an app that allows me to move, delete, place in folder icons that are in the start menu (The one that comes up when you press the start button on the phone). I have apps that are all over the place and would like to reorganize them if possible.
hello.
I just reach to this aplication on the HD2 that could work for us too.
as I am new I can not put the whole link sorry

Looks like a great program but its not what im looking for....i want a program that allows me to rearrange my programs shortcuts under the start menu and the app provided only allows me to change the icons of the apps..thanx thou
Still looking for an App to do the above please
Have you tried your file explorer to cut and paste the shortcuts to wherever you want. You can add folders and rename them to put apps of a specific type into too if you want.
Ive had a look previously and there is no one repository that the shortcuts live, and i`d image that windows would arrange them by name if could find them which doesnt give me the option i want..
What i want to do is say move the facebook app which is at the bottom of the list and put it about half way up under all the system shortcuts or in a custom folder. The only option the rom gives is "more to top" or "move to bottom".
I hope im making sense.
If you are using WM 6.1 or 6.5, the shortcuts are in \Windows\Start Menu.
Perhaps you are referring to the Manila/Sense program tab are you? If yes, then you should be able to add/remove these from one of the soft keys.
Perhaps you can give us a screenshot of the programs you are referring to....
Hi there sorry for the delay...ive attached the screenshot as per your request.....
So what im wanting to be able to do is re-arrange any icon in the menu so like games to where marketplace is for example
Is this possible?
Hi
I don't understanding something
Is simple drag and drop method not working for you?
Longpress icon until it popsup, drag there you want, release finger.
i cant drag and drop, i think this is a limitation on the rom which is v2.1. The only option i have is to move the icon to the top as shown in the screenshot. All i want to be able to do is move one shortcut to somewhere else in the same menu... aka in the order i want. Im sure someone would have asked this before and that there would be an App that would allow a user to customize this menu.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=567080
Try this.
Thanx heaps i1ll give a go now and report bk...much appreciated
What rom are you using? If its a 6.5 you can use the drag and drop method described earlier to rearrange start meu icons.
Otherwise they are in this location: \Windows\Start Menu\Programs.
To create specific folders to move shortcuts to, would look like this:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Shell\StartInfo\Start\Media]
"Name"="Media"
"Group"=dword:00000001
"Icon"="\\Windows\\Media.png"
... where "Name" is the name of the folder, "Icon" is the picture that will represent the folder on the start menu, and "Group"=1 tells windows that this is a folder. Once you have created all the folders you want you can use your file explorer to drag and drop the shortcuts into whatever folder you want
Thanx so much "artukas613" that program was exactly what i was looking for.....worked a treat. Thank you to all who helped.
Hey people, i have been looking under tree and rock to finde some sort of way to organize Apps in to folders, in the main menu. With no luck so far.
I am i just blind and stupid or have Android made the same mistake as apple did with no way of organizing applications (albiet, appels problem is a bit bigger than Android's).
Anything to help me keep my Main Menu Organized ??
Kind Regards

"main menu" being application launcher drawer/cube? Or home screen?
Stock application launcher drawer/cube doesn't have the option, and I fail to see why anyone would need such an option, given that -
1) Home screen supports folders.
2) There are plenty of apps that allow grouping applications in "folders" of some kind (virtual ones) on the home screen.
Your "main menu" is the home screen(s), not the application drawer.
How about 'Apps Organizer' from the market.
- You can set up categories
- Apps can be in multiple categories
- Assign custom or predefined icons to these
- Both widget and shortcut support to put these categories on your home screens
- Fave apps so they stick to the top in the folders
- Optionally have all folders/categories as subfolder from 1 main folder. Now that cleans up everything into a single icon.
It's a lifesaver if you use a ton of apps and want to stay organized imho.
nice apps organizer
for me it has been FolderOrganizer by Fabio Collini for quite some time...
After trying every app organizer I could find I settled on "tag home" to fix this problem. You can create tabs in the launcher, sort the apps by tab, prioritize the items in the tab sort them, have an app under multiple tabs, (easier than remembering if gmail is in internet or communication) and you can shortcut the tags onto the desktop as folders. plus, it's free in the market.
Just my 2 cents, and that's about all my advice is worth....

I am also looking for an efficent solution! But i think we have to wait until apple releases its OS4.0, which will be able to organize apps.
Then suddenly there will be apps developed for android who do the same thing. Its sad, that it has to be this way...

Why would you think that? There was Advanced Launcher for 1.6 that did this, and many home alternatives that do this. It's harder for rosie because it is closed source.
PS. You can make a folder on the home screen for a long time and dump applications into it, just like the magical iPhone can't do yet.

Advanced Launcher doesnt work at all.
Does Rosie mean Sense? (Sorry i just got my first android device)
I didnt find a decend Homescreen replacement that has this feature. Only Tag Home Launcher, but this app slows my phone down (very noticeable!).
The Replacements, which worked fine (for example ADW Launcher or Launcher Pro), didnt have the ability to sort apps in the draer/starmenu...
If you could point me to an working replacement I would be happy!!!
But, coming from windows mobile my experience is: nothing new is developed until apple does it and then sudenly the market is flooded with apps, that do this. ( I was looking for more finger usability since Windows Mobile 2003SE ^^). Of course there are few exceptions...
But please proove me wrong!
About the ability to create folders on the homescreen: I know this ability exists! But in my opinion one big advantage of android is the widgets on the homescreen. I like my homescreen to show me the time, my appointments, the weather...
For launching purpose i would like a simple menu with all my apps (categorizeed, sorted the way i want it )
the way I see it: the iphone has no homescreen it only has a launcher. But soon this launcher will get better than the one from android (now they are equally bad^^) and that is when i think apps will be released to overcome this differnce. But it should be the other way around...
But again: please proove me wrong!

its low res, but i am sure there will soon be a better video...
So until I find the perfect solution I'm using the folders created for the on-screen but I'd like to be able to rename the folders. As an Android n00b is that possible?

To change the folder name:
-Open the folder.
-Touch and hold the bar at the top of the folder.
This should give you the "Rename folder" dialog box.
Good luck.
