P6210 LA3 firmware and wifi - Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus

After running this a few days, I'm really not happy with whatever changes Samsung has made. Not only have the NOT resolved the now infamous "SOD" issue, but they've created new problems (at least for me) with wifi.
I usually keep my wifi "sleep policy" set to "never when plugged in." For every device I've owned, this would keep the wifi turned on and connected if my device was power on (display on) or the device was plugged into AC power. I've never had any problems with it.
With this latest firmware update, however, it keeps dropping the wifi connection while the device is turned on (screen on.) I'm sitting literally 20 feet from the AP, and there are 4 signals for the device to choose from (2 2.4GHz channels and 2 5GHz channels.) However, for some reason, it decides it just doesn't want to be connected to ANY of them. The wifi radio is still enabled, but it won't connect (or even see) any AP.
Samsung: I don't know what you THINK you may have fixed with this latest firmware update, but you not only failed to correct the most prominent issues people are having, but you've already created at least one new one.
I'm going back to KL1...

I got the notification of the new firmware update and was looking for what this update about. Thanks for posting here... I am now holding on the update...

I am also going to hold off on the update. Thanks Gary for all your do.

mine stops checking for update.. cannot get the "Update" stuff to work.. probably a good thing for now..

My Wifi works fine with LA3...

I'm a happy camper
My WiFi is also working fine with LA3. I was actually having a minor issue with the last firmware where the WiFi would occasionally not follow the WiFi sleep policy I had chosen. I had it set to never sleep but every once in awhile (very randomly) when I brought the tab out of sleep, I found that the WiFi had also gone to sleep. I have had LA3 on my tab for 2 days now and so far so good. It has adhered to the WiFi sleep policy I have set but 2 days is not a good indication that the issue I had been experiencing with the last firmware has been corrected in LA3. I am going to give it a few weeks before I say one way or the other if the issue still exists or not. But as I said, so far so good for me.

Oddly enough, I'm not experiencing that. Never when plugged in works correctly for me. It also manages to turn off the wifi when the screen is off while I'm on battery, which is an improvement over the previous firmware. I did experience two SODs in the two days after upgrading, but they have since stopped. (I'm not using Auto Airplane Mode anymore, so I'm quite pleased with that.) Are you now experiencing the SOD with the new firmware, because if I remember correctly, you weren't experiencing it on your tab with the previous firmware. Also, I'm wondering if whatever was keeping your tab from experiencing the SOD with the last firmware is causing your issues with this one. Nevertheless, I'm sorry you're experiencing issues. If there's anything I can do to help, pulling logs or testing, I'm more than willing. Good Luck

@garyd9 Could you send me a link to the firmware of KL1? I'm having problems with LA3 and root and busybox. I'm trying to revert it back and try again but couldn't find the link of firmware. Thank you!

How does your Wifi Work?

Is everyone having issues or is it just a few. I'm going to exchange mine tomorrow due to wifi issues. Will it be a lost cause to try and find one that will work out of the box or are some working and stable?
Mine works A-OK but I've heard some horror stories here, as well as on IRC.
Viewsonic is releasing an OTA update on Monday and allegedly WiFi is more stable. Allegedly.
Mine has been working fine. I traveled out-of-state with it earlier this week and it worked in the hotel, at the client site, and tethered to my Evo's Sprint Hotspot. I took it to a friend's tonight and it worked just fine there as well (even in his front yard).
mine is ok. on tnt it goes out all the time and i get errors, especially after it goes to sleep by itself. on zpad it seems better but i haven't really tested that rom out much.
On my second one. First one had wifi DOA. Second one is working but the range capability seems to be very poor, plus although it sees and recognized my PEAP AP at work it wouldn't allow me to connect, as it just took me to the security tab and gave up with no helpful options. If the wifi doesn't get better I'll probably give up for a while.
Mine actually worked pretty well. I encountered the disconnect after every stand by, but if i just left it for a minute or so it connected just fine. Now with cm6b3 it works 100%
On a stock, rooted g-tablet, mine has always worked fine. I haven't used it outside of my home, though.
Returned mine today due to the WiFi issue. The closest replacement is 50 miles away. I think I'm going to wait and see how the updates work out before I pick up another one. May wait to see if i can get a refurb on Sears outlet. It is too bad, I really liked the thing.

It would be hard to get an OTA update if you can't get the wifi to connect....
The only Wi-Fi problem I am having is the disconnect even though in Settings I have it set to never power off the Wi-Fi.
It disconnects even if my G Tablet does not go to sleep. In other words it disconnects even with the screen up at all times.
It appears to disconnect when there is no Wi-Fi activity for a few minutes, such as reading a long web page or putting the tablet down for a while.
First attempt to communicate over Wi-Fi results in an error message but then the Wi-Fi connection goes back up and all is OK until the next time.
I mentioned this to Viewsonic Support and they suggested I get the tablet replaced. Somehow I don't think this is a hardware problem though.
My first one had almost no range. I could be standing right on top of the router and have 1 bar, my phone (droid1) would have full signal. Sitting at my desk I only saw my router while my phone would see all the neighbors. I exchanged it that same day. The new one mimicked my phone, same signal strength, saw all the same networks. So it seems like the wifi radio's in these things are very hit/miss.
chad
No issues with the wifi. I added the latest tnt lite 2.2.0 and I had
no issues. Right now I'm still trying different android apps.
I am still learning how to type on the tablet. ...
WiFi great
My stock gTablet worked very well on the 'net from the outset. It took me less than 5 minutes to get on; the hardest thing was to find the WEP key I had misplaced. I have coverage all over the 1-story house and front and back yards.

Mine works perfectly. I've had no Wi-Fi issues at all.
No wifi
mine can not scan for wifi keeps telling me unable to scan for networks. Going to call support see if there is a work around, hoping by updating may correct problem.

Irony alert! Watch out for people who have had great wifi to switch places with the folks currently having bad wifi. That is how this stuff sometimes works.... displacement!
So since I have had good wifi, maybe should not joke....
Inconsistent
Mine used to (returned it) disconnect randomly, whether I was in the middle of something or not. Very frustrating having to wait a moment (~30-60 sec) for it to reconnect before I could resume.
Plus the fact that it didn't have the option to connect to my WLAN without SSID broadcasting is inexcusable.

WiFi works as good for me as it did on the Augen GT. Not great range, but I still get signal at a distance that I'd normally be outside and away from the WiFi AP... even had it re-connect to WiFi as expected when I accidentally let it go to sleep once w/stock fw. never tried this again since moving to TnTL custom fw...
My WPDN OTOH was a POS at this range and would randomly disconnect and reconnect along with pathetically slow transfer speeds...

G2x wifi problem

My wifi connection is not very stable. Keeps on disconnecting.
I heard this is a known problem for theb g2x. Are any of u experiencing this issue? And or know how to fix this?
Is tmobile gonna do an update fix for this?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I've experienced wifi issues myself. Wifi was working flawlessly the first week i had the phone but now it seems as though it does not want to connect to any network -__- it just says 'error'
Not sure if i had something to do with it acting up, maybe i downloaded an app that caused it to act up.. idk
No definite word if the upcoming gb update will fix this issue but i sure hope it will!
sometimes simply rebooting your router can fix this. of all the wifi threads i've seen, i never saw anyone mention this. but like i said, it will sometimes fix it.
After leaving my phone idle for 15+ minutes, I'll lose wifi. Simple fix is to disable/enable wifi. LG knows of this problem and will release a fix on the next update. http://www.lgforum.com/forum/boards/general/lg/topics/g2x-wifi-problems
Now others are having a different type of wifi issue where it won't connect at all, I'm not sure if it's a hardware or software issue.
I'm having the exact same issue. Wifi will be connected, then after a period of time the connection gets disabled. It's quite annoying, as I often do not notice it for a while, after I have already gobbled up a bunch of 4G bandwidth.
I fixed this problem with G2xFixWi-Fi from the market.
Just 4 clicks and it is done.
two separate wifi problems with the g2x
it's good that your wifi problem was fixed with the G2xFixWi-Fi app. but that only fixes the dns problem.
there is another wifi problem where if the phone is in idle for a while and you wake it up, you see from the indicators at top there is no wifi icon and that it is trying to connect 4g but doesn't succeed. the 4g icon flashes on briefly and disappears. it keeps on doing this every second until i manually turn off wifi. then it connects to 4g. from what i can deduce, if i don't turn off wifi before putting it in idle, it does this as well after the phone is in idle for a while. i'm not sure how long after the screen switches off that this looping process happens, but give it 2 hours and i feel that the back of the phone is really warm. i'm thinking that it's warm because it is constantly in this loop. this may also be the source of the massive battery drain that some are seeing.
if i manually turn off wifi before putting it in idle, this doesn't happen. so that's my solution for the time being. i heard about using tasker to automote toggling wifi on/off as the screen is on/off. and it seemed to work at first. but after an overnight test, i found out that the phone response time is sluggish and unpredictable, to the point where i had to have perfect timing just to unlock the phone from idle. rebooting the phone didn't resolve the sluggish response problem, but uninstalling tasker did the trick. so now, it's back to manually turning off wifi before putting it in idle.
another solution proposed is to set wifi to never sleep in the settings. the last time i tried it, it didn't work for me. but i'll try it again to see if it'll work this time.
setting wifi to never sleep did not help
nope. i changed my wifi settings to never sleep and the wifi disconnection problem still happens.
When my phone was stock I had problems with Wi-Fi when it was simultaneously trying to run 2G or 4G. Since then I have switched to various ROMs and Wi-Fi is rock solid. I do use Juice Defender which turns it on and off when screen is off and I'm not running a short list of programs like Pandora. It also reliably switches on when I arrive home.
My G2X won't connect to every WiFi network, and there are a few it cannot even find. I was in a cafe the other day and my friend's laptop and Nokia connected to its WiFi network and my G2X could not even find it... (( So, the problem is, some networks it recognizes but does not connect to (it sticks to "obtaining internet IP..." and then disconnects) and some it cannot even recognize. But to most networks it connects no problem (my home included)... What could be the problem? Can anyone help me?

If you have not messed with the ROM and are having this problem - try TMo tech support first, then ask for a replacement if not fixed.
I have had excellent WiFi performance with stock ROM and EB Froyo's and GB (with and without kernels) - WiFi always worked OK. Could be bad unit - it should work!
My wifi has worked flawlessly, but I think it may depend on the router. I recently bought a wifi repeater to use on the other side of my house and when I connect to that, the G2x will disconnect from wifi after about 15 minutes of idle time, like previous posts have said. I switch back to my regular router and it never disconnects.
I have also notice the problem to.

This sounds like normal behavior honestly. What is your wifi sleep policy set to? By default the wifi radio turns off when the screen is turned off and then turns back on when the screen turns on.

Thanks for responding. I have it set to "when screen turns off." The weird thing is I never noticed it do the little switcheroo before. Also, I have Juice Plotter just for fun and it used to show wifi for most of the night when I'm sleeping and the phone is charging. And now it shows APN during that time. I guess it was messing up before and now it's doing what it's supposed to.
Can you enlighten me on a myth, I heard that the wifi consumes less power than the APN or 4G. Is this true or false?
Thanks again

With a LTE or Wimax phone, I think so. With a phone using hspa+, I don't think so.
Did you try.
Did you set it like I do, WI-FI never sleep. Because where I live
T-MOBIL had no cell service. Well, Very spotty coverage.
Also check how many people in you're neighborhood are on your same channel. And change yours.
Look in mark there's a free APP that's a WI-FI analyzer.
And change to one

My wifi is acting weird. It does a loop whenever i have a WPA/WPA2 settings on my home wifi but works when i have it disabled. :S It was alright with stock froyo and stock GB i uploaded from LG. then i flashed Xboarders OTA 1.2.2 GB and this happens.
Can any1 give an insight how to fix this ? =(
im having the same problem, i bought the g2x the day it came out (when it had froyo before gingerbread came out) and never had a problem leaving my wifi on 24/7 it wasnt until the update for gingerbread came out that this problem started happening, it really sucks for me since im using my g2x as an AT&T phone for now all i get is 2g speeds

also something i tried and worked was turn wifi off, turn off your phone and turn it back on then go to menu>settings> wireless & network>wi-fi settings>check connect to wifi and check connect to wifi that worked for me (holding the phone in landscape mode (horizontally) ) i add that in because one time i was turing the wifi on in that order it didnt work i dropped my phone and picked it back up in landscape mode and wifi was connected. im not sure if anything i said helped anyone at all but hope i didnt waste anyones time

HELP - Xoom FE won't stay connected to wifi

So the wife and I have each had a Xoom FE since late October, last night my Xoom began having issues staying connected to wifi. I thought it might be an issue with our alarm system, that afternoon a wireless alarm monitor was added so we could do away with our home phone. The wife brought her Xoom into the bedroom and hers works fine, so I moved into the pc room to test it and with direct line of sight and full signal I still can't stay connected. I turned on the mobile hotspot on my phone and connected to it on my Xoom and surfed the web just fine.
I've always had issues with both of them initially connecting upon waking from sleep, but simply turning wifi off/on fixes it and it stays connected until the next time it sleeps for any amount of time more than 30 minutes. This was different, it would connect, start to load a page, lag lag lag, load a little more, lag lag lag, load a little more, maybe load entirely or give an error about connectivity. Again, wifes sitting right next to me in the same room, same network works fine.
I don't believe it's an issue with my Xoom, I haven't rooted or installed any new updates or programs. It was working fine one night and then the next night it's having connectivity issues. My wifes works fine on the same network with the same settings. My Xoom will connect to my cell phones mobile hotspot. I will try my Xoom at another location soon to see how it likes other wireless networks but as it will connect to my phones I don't think it will be a problem elsewhere.
Cliff notes: My Xoom doesn't want to play with my wireless router anymore but my wifes still works.
And last night it was back to working fine. I shut it off for the night after having the issues and re-started it last night around 8pm and it worked like it always has, so I don't know what was causing the issues but it seems to have fixed itself.
I had a similar issue with my rooted Xoom on the latest Tiamat GB release. I tries reflashing and few times with the same issues. I've now upgraded to the ICS beta roms and not only is the WiFi working, but its better then ever with much better reception. I wish I knew what the original issue was though.
mine was doing that the other night, but only when i had the charger plugged in.
worked fine every time i unplugged it...
All I did was go to the android market and found a actual wifi widget and always had it turned on. It works flawlessly. Hope that works if nothing else.
Sent from my Xoom using xda premium
Sometimes these things happen, if it's working fine now I wouldn't think anything of it. These are just like computers, they need to be restarted every now and then. I wish my Xoom FE would work. I can't get my wifi to work for crap no matter what I do.

[Q] "other" WiFi issue??

Ok so it seems many people have some complaints about the WiFi on the One X but from what I have found, no one has the same problem as me.
When using WiFi after around an hour or so (seems to vary) of not being used the WiFi seems to loose connection, but it still says its connected and the only way you can tell it really isn't working is by trying to use the net in some way.
I turned on the "best WiFi performance" option and that seemed to stop the connection loss but really eats up the battery. So that is not a full time option.
I wonder if i should be taking this phone back and exchanging it (once they leave customs)
I also have an issue where when I put the phone in the car dock (unfortunately not the nice one that connects with the back contacts like I thought I had ordered but one that uses USB) when I take it out my lock screen no longer shows the weather when you hit the power button, I have to go back into the personalize settings and change it to another lock screen and then change it back.
Some detail: when connection is lost the phone is sitting in the same spot which is only about 3 feet away from the router. My previous TC Aria running CM7 would also lose connection occasionally but it was no where near as often as this. I thought that maybe it was my router seeing that its an old Linksys WRT54G Ver2 but no other devices that use WiFi have this issue. I updated to the leaked 1.82?? version but I still have all the same problems.
Anyone else have this issue? Think I should exchange?

Flaky wifi - frequently needs disconnecting and reconnecting when using 5GHz wifi

Anyone else having issues with 5GHz wifi becoming unresponsive and needing to be turned off and immediately back on to kick it into working?
I've got Smart Network Switch and Download Booster (switch to mobile data if wifi is no good; use wifi + LTE) both switched off, so they shouldn't be a factor.. I even switched them back on and then off just to be sure that they were in fact off.
After a painful day spent trying to transfer data to the new phone, and installing all of my usual apps - having to disable and renable wifi at least 50 times throughout the day - I decided to switch from using my 5GHz wifi to 2.4GHz (same router), and it now seems fine. Switching back to 5, and I end up back with the same result - wifi will work fine for a while before stopping.
My Galaxy S5 has no issue using the 5GHz (and neither do any other devices I have), so it doesn't appear to be the router (Asus RT-AC87U) at fault unless there's just some compatibility issue with the S6.
Phone is G920I (Australian version, 64GB)

Pretty sure this is a Android 5.0 problem. My nexus 6 has this problem as well. I have the AC68U. I am getting my GS6 tomorrow so I will see if it has the problem then. No problems on 2.4 like you.
Turn off the stupid Smart Network Switching.
noticed exactly the same thing, all other devices in the house are perfect, but the S6 loses connection now and then even when next to the router.
No issues using my 5ghz wifi network and the S6, have not had to disable/enable it once for any reason. Tmobile version.
You might try getting yours replaced, 50 times in a day is insane.
Thanks for the replies guys - oddly comforting to see that some others are having the same issue..
@byronhinson - Can I ask what brand of router you have (since both Prod1702 and I are having the issue with Asus routers + Lollipop)
I have exactly the same issue and on top of that the phone gets laggy when it losts the wifi!
However with classic wifi (not 5Ghz), it works fine all the time!
GS6 32Gb - Australian version as well
Same issue here. I hope they will fix it.
No issues here, 5ghz all day long well when I'm home

Look at the silver lining - at least you didn't spend an entire day unawares and having to constantly switch wifi off and on to kick it back into gear, before *eventually* (after all of your transferring of data and installation of apps was done) thinking to switch to 2.4 and having it work as I did

I had the same problem and my router also is ASUS AC87U , wifi disconnected problem can solved after upgrade your router's firmware.
but there is a very serious problem I found.
on ASUS AC87U 5G wifi + Galaxy S6 , it drain battery very fast and get very high cpu usage at screen off.
it means the phone always keep running and can't get in sleep mode.
connected to another brand router it just be fine, very stable and no battery drain, So, I don't know this is ASUS's problem or Samsung's, that makes me very annoyed :crying:
hope someone can told me how to solve, thanks!

Argh - trying to update the router firmware was the first thing that I tried when I found the issue.. Stupid bloody router kept on saying that I had the latest version, but checking the Asus website shows that there's a later version from 2nd April that requires a factory reset after installing - 2 of the things fixed are around wifi issues..
Updated and so far so good, but I guess a couple of time will tell. I'll keep an eye on battery/cpu usage and see how it goes..
Hopefully a router firmware update will fix the 5GHz issue for others that are having the issue too, at least for those with Asus routers.
For all of you who are having this issue, how is your battery life?
Just got my S6 today, same router as the OP (Asus RT-AC87U) and same problem on 5Ghz. Constantly disconnecting and reconnecting to Wifi.
2.4Ghz works fine
5Ghz work very solid on other devices so i'm not really sure what is the problem.
Galaxy tab S 105 and 8.4 works fine on the same router's 5Ghz network.
5GHz for dummies
I was having similar problems, where two Samsung devices in the house were both having difficulty remaining connected to the AC87U router for any length of time. Sometimes they would continually report Authentication Error but then connect happily after a reboot. Other times, they just would not connect.
In my case, it boiled down to dumb user error. I was using the same SSID for both bands, but had mistyped a character in the password for the 5GHz band and so was only able to connect to 2.4GHz band.
Perhaps this will save somebody else some trouble!
