[Q] Wind Mobile P-999 and CM7 - T-Mobile LG G2x

Hi all,
I recently changed my phone from my good ol' Google Nexus One that I had on Rogers to a brand-spanking new LG Optimus 2x (P-999) on Wind Mobile.
I had my rooted Nexus one running CM7, but have heard that there are some issues with CM7 on the P-999. Is this fact
Does anyone out there have CM7 on the P-999?
Many thanks for your help.
Emanuel Matos

hey there, fellow wind user
yes there is CM7 for our phones, and various ROMS based off of CM7 as well. im using CM7 Nighties, as its constantly updated, but there is a stable release, as well as some custom builds people have made that are based off of CM7. take a peek in the DEV forums for all the ROMs, Kernels and other goodies!

First word of warning: you have a P990 NOT a P999 there are some differences and A G2x ROM won't work on your O2x, and vice versa.
That being said, I'm using a CM7 nightly from Euroskank and currently running one of Faux's kernels, the only problem I ever have a DSP manager FC'ing, I have other apps for it/s functions anyhow so I just freeze it and no FC's. Otherwise, no, no problems.

Actually Wind phones are P999's

No really it is an Optimus 2x as G2x is a Branded name for T-Mobile only.
Optimus 2x p990 European Version
Optimus 2x p999 American Version (not USA)
Both are Optimus 2x

[Q] Original 2.3 for LG Optimus T (P509)

Is the gingerbread released? I got a new update in the LG software tool, I'm going to see if it's the gingerbread update.
Update: Its version 2.2.2.... Software version LG-P509-V10S
That's not Gingerbread for sure.
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App
how much longer till official Tmobile optimus T gets 2.3 upgrade?
Sprint rolled out their update this week I believe. Co-worker has one, said his phone freaked out so he took it to the sprint store and the Rep said he had to update it..I was skeptical so I took a look at his about phone and dammit it was 2.3 hopefully that's a good sign for the T-Mobile users.
I have a P509 from T-Mobile and waiting for the 2.3 release. Seems like everyone else has it but us. I am hoping it comes in October.

I know you've followed my rants on this before.
The chatter on the LG and TMO forums is still the same. The failed Optimus S update gives TMO all the reason they need to reject it.
All pissed off P509 owners should constantly be spamming US TMO and LG forums asking when, why, etc..... I do.
Yep, according to wiki docs on our phone, the optimus t wont be getting that official 2.3 gingerbread update, keep using unofficial versions or get a better phone-4g sensation or galaxy s2 yay!!!!!

I have the Optimus T and have been reading mostly conflicting 'do' and 'donts' about using Optimus One ROM's so I'm still not sure if I 'can' or 'cant'. I never expected to see a GB update for the phone though - it's long past that and since it is under the pay-as-you-go framework it won't get any luv.

Any P500 rom that uses the old baseband will work flawlessly on the P509. In fact the only thing I miss about the official rom is the missed message notification on the lockscreen. CM7 is superior is every other way IMO. Once the bugs are ironed out with Oxygen, AOSP and andys Phoenix I think we'll have one of the best selections of Gingerbread roms available on any phone.
Official LG GB utilizes the new baseband. The P500 baseband does not include the 1700 spectrum. This represents half of TMOs 3g network (according to Wiki).
I've flashed the P500 baseband and had no major problems. However, weird things like the launcher only showing 3 buttons instead of 5. When my phone booted it up it took an extra few seconds before I had network reception. Battery life was slightly worse compared to Official froyo. I errored on the side of caution and went back to the old baseband. Also, the idea of only having access to half the available 3g towers was a huge turn off.

LG released the update for the Optimus One and considering Gingerbread is just a refresh of Froyo, I did expect an update. Since the Optimus V, P505, P506 and all other U.S. versions of the Optimus One haven't received the update, there's little hope and little room to complain. That doesn't change the fact that I feel I've been cheated.
My only concern is if LG releases the sources for the new baseband, will the great 01 devs start to phase out support for the old baseband?
Well thanks for clarifying.

can you point me in the right direction, to a rom were mms size comes in normal! because everytime i try a rom my mms come in to small and thus my pictures are thumbnails like! i know i've complain about this in the past, but your saying p500 roms would work flawlessly on the p509 and maybe i'm flashing the wrong roms! if you can help that would be great?
ps. i would like to flash the openoptimus the one with the old baseband you think it would work?

The small mms issue is because Tmo doesn't recognize the phone (don't ask, it makes no sense to me either). A rom like cm7 has an option in sms settings to change the user agent. Third party apps do too.
Any rom based on official LG like openoptimus won't have this option.
If you prefer official LG without a third party app, it may be possible to decompile the mms.apk and edit the user agent.

Really does depend on personal preference. Best way to find out for yourself is to try out several different roms and kernels combo.
All the roms here are frigging awesome but for me I like eagles blood the most and folllowed by weapon g2x and CM7.
You can't really go wrong with either of these roms. Just depends on ya pref

I have 2 g2x's and they both like different roms, so yes, all phones are different. I've found Eaglesblood 2.4 the best on my earlier, froyo device. My new device came with gingerbread from the factory, it will not run on cm based roms, yet it loves anything stock gb based. I run weapon 3.0 r1 on that one. Oh yeah, kernels, dragon 1.5.2. On Eaglesblood and faux 123's 013 kernel on gingerbread.

the weapon/faux combo works great no problems and theres zips for lg camera software and a fix to get the gps working quick

[Q] Gifting P509/P500 - Oxygen, PerfectPeso, OMGB/OMGFB or OpenOptimus

I am giving a P500 (actually a P509) to my sister. She has never used an Android phone. My main criteria are stability and reasonable battery life. I was considering Oxygen. However, I think it would be better to have a feature-rich ROM. So my sister will not have to tweak it. I would also like to setup A2SD of some sort.
I have used the old OpenOptimus Rom with no problems. Very stable.
OMGB & OMGFB are ROMS from the same developer as OpenOptimus. However, I am not sure if they are stable yet, since they are recently released.
Perfect Peso - Seems to be feature-rich. Not sure about the stability. However, the dev seems to be missing since Mid May.
What I would like is an updated OpenOptimus ROM. I might just install this old ROM anyway, as this is for my sister. Any other suggestions? Which newer ROM is closest to OpenOptimus?
Thanks!
PS I am also giving her a Nook Color.
PPS Hope this is not a violation of the prohibition on "What's the best ROM/Kernel/Theme?" threads.
For someone that is completely new to android, start them off in stock first until they get used to it. In my opinion I'd use oxygen once they become familiar with android

Use oxygen...smooth stable and battery friendly...
Oxygen...all the way
G-T-R V7.7 or RAZR ROM
use any of these..both are feature rich from the same person:
G-T-R if she's into gaming
RAZR-UI if she wants it battery efficient yet feature rich rom
Thank you for the input!! I will need to install and troubleshoot the new ROM this weekend. I would like to send it off on Monday.

They are almost the same. You can use any P500 or P509 ROM on either phone. The only difference I know is that the P509 supports the 3G band that T-mobile uses (1700/2100 MHz).
I do not have a good answer about flashing the new baseband vs the fix for the old baseband, when using a P509.
G-T-R has a cool user interface, very eye candy, your girl would love it.. in terms of performance. this rom is the one.

Update - The ROMs using the old baseband all work for both the P500 and the P509.
The new baseband may eliminate data. I am just investigating this myself. It seems to be a function of newer t-mobile sims (funny sims). Some ROMs support "funny SIMs".
Another potential problem is that the new baseband does/did not include the 3G band that T-mobile uses (1700/2100 MHz). You may not get a 3g data connection.
I am not sure what I will do about the P509 I am gifting. I have no idea if my sister is using one of the newer SIMs.
Thank you everyone for the feedback. I decided not to use the new baseband. I flashed Oxygen and the old baseband fix 2. My sister will be surprised by this Bday present.

Perfect peso is sh*t. Phone is booting for 5mins etc. Gaming isnt better. Random hangs and reboots. Me no like.
I would just load the latest cm nightly so it has the latest features and it is FAST and interface is plain and minimal
I would also recommend blackbird cause it is also fast and feature ruch

Hardware Acceleration

We might get Hardware acceleration on ICS yet. Most of you might remember reading a tweet from LG Mexico announcing the ICS update was canceled for the Optimus 2x, which is required to get our hardware drivers to get working video camera, and hardware acceleration on ICS Roms on the G2x. Well apparently this was just region specific, as Lg Singapore just posted on their facebook page that the update is still on for the 2x! Take a look at it here: https://www.facebook.com/LGMobileSingapore/posts/10151098010297707

The only device similar enough to ours to get the video drivers from is the Optimus 2x, which is basically our phone without T-Mobile Branding andwith LG's UI. The G2x isn't getting official ICS, but if the Optimus 2X, does, the devs have said that it's almost certain we will be able to use the same drivers.

Yes, getting ICS from the P990 to the P999 shouldn't be a big problem.
But we first need a kernel source, which usually drops in a couple days after an official ICS release.

I believe the SU660 will get is working blobs for HW Acceleration, because the SU660 has the same chipset as the P990/P999. The SU660 though has some different hardware to get things to work though (such as physical home buttons, etc). The SU660 is just a piece of the puzzle, not the whole puzzle completed.

Yeah it's pretty dated info that's why I'm curious because all these hackfests still around but no stable ICS? I can only assume LG pulled a fast one and never released it or they did but every dev stopped developing for p999 becuase there were so many nice ICS builds for my phone but all with there only little problems like the launcher "trebuchet" and system always crashed on domination's builds

I am not 100% sure whether the Korean version is the same as p990, but it is definitely a variant of optimus 2x that has a different model number than p999. Therefore, its roms will not work on our phone.

I'd love to believe that... but that article was written a little over a year ago. I'd think that if it was a possibility to get fully functional ICS on our g2x's with thus source code, it would've been done by now. I am starting to lose hope that we can run ICS or JB without a single hitch as our mighty devs have just run into the same problems it seems even looking from different angles. Thanks anyway to all who have given us a shred of hope of running anything after GB.

I'd love to believe it too. Hopefully one of the devs sees this thread and pokes his head in here to give us a reason why it can't/hasn't been done..
The Korean ics for the su990(or some such thing) came through and that's when we got Apollo/mazout cm10.1 with no radio. It was built on that stuff. For the p990 it worked out great though.
