Yeah it's pretty dated info that's why I'm curious because all these hackfests still around but no stable ICS? I can only assume LG pulled a fast one and never released it or they did but every dev stopped developing for p999 becuase there were so many nice ICS builds for my phone but all with there only little problems like the launcher "trebuchet" and system always crashed on domination's builds

What do you mean?????? that I can install a p990 ICS for proper HwA etc?
I am not 100% sure whether the Korean version is the same as p990, but it is definitely a variant of optimus 2x that has a different model number than p999. Therefore, its roms will not work on our phone.

I'd love to believe that... but that article was written a little over a year ago. I'd think that if it was a possibility to get fully functional ICS on our g2x's with thus source code, it would've been done by now. I am starting to lose hope that we can run ICS or JB without a single hitch as our mighty devs have just run into the same problems it seems even looking from different angles. Thanks anyway to all who have given us a shred of hope of running anything after GB.

I'd love to believe it too. Hopefully one of the devs sees this thread and pokes his head in here to give us a reason why it can't/hasn't been done..
The Korean ics for the su990(or some such thing) came through and that's when we got Apollo/mazout cm10.1 with no radio. It was built on that stuff. For the p990 it worked out great though.

Probably never, there are rumors of the g2x getting ICS 4.0 sometime, although that is highly unlikely. You can try out CM7 for 2.3.5.
What he said
LG and T-Mobile won't come out with any updates. LG releasing the source code, they abandoned support.
XDA is only reason this phone gets any kind of love and support.
There is hardly anything noticeable between 2.3.3, 2.3.4, and 2.3.5.
If you want a newer version, do a custom rom. I can't understand why people, on XDA especially, fight so hard to stay on a stock rom that is old and lacking. My neighbor bought a G2x the other day and I NVFlashed his phone in like 4 minutes (mostly due to downloading and finding the XDA thread for the NVFlasher).
Gingerbread is available in a plethera of roms for our device. I'd much rather LG focus their efforts on a timely ICS release.
I just wish nvidia would release drivers. I would love a2dp on the newer roms

I hope we don't get 2.3.4 or 2.3.6 if that comes. I want LG to just focus on getting out 2.4 as near as available as possible. All the learning from vanilla with driver fixes should make 2.4 a snap.
At this point nothing about 2.3 any variants makes any difference after 2.3.3
The G2X vanilla should easily be able to handle Android 4, or 2.4 whatever its named sandwich. The hardware is spec. And should be able to get onto the next version after Ice Cream, at that time it will be like a basic model that can still easily support.
I am expecting 2 more full releases on the phone, as the cost for LG to do, with the drivers worked out, should be very minimal.
Worse case, LG can license a custom ROM, and toss that out for a couple hundred K. 2 man years cost.

It is nice to see you post something other than the CAL... if you really think LG is gonna release anything other than maybe a small updae which i also doubt. maybe youll join with the CAL.. This is it even LG has said they dont even plan on bringing out the camera appp which i thought they would at least do.
As burk said no proof either way. But history means a lot and sicne this debacle i have looked at lg and see this has been nothing new with them. and Updates have been only carrier pushed for bugs from what i have read.
Yes it would be nice to see something new and great for the phone from LG but dont hold your breath.

Wouldn't actually work since gtalk works using NEON which our processors don't have. I haven't tried the alternatives (like vtalk our vtok, something like that) but they don't apparently work well. google has to fix it unless there's been a development I missed.

CyanogenMod is the only way this phone will ever see ICS, I would put money on that.

No, because they don't know what the hell they are doing.
Just called Netflix they say the app is running on their end and that it's the manufacturer's fault if the app won't run.
I wonder what the issue is? Is it an issue with the software? Anyone think they can crack this?
It's crap like this that makes being a G2X owner frustrating.

LG's Response
Typical response from LG - blame T-Mobile:
Gustavo: Hello Guest. Welcome to LG Electronics U.S.A.! How may I provide you with excellent service today?
Guest: I have an LG G2X and I tried installing the new Netflix app fromt the android market which is supposed to be compatible with all devices running Android 2.2.2 or 2.3.3; however, the Netflix app does not work on the G2X. I called Netflix and they said they are aware of the issue. They also said that this is an LG problem not a Netflix problem. I just wanted to know if LG was doing something about it.
Gustavo: Basically what I mean to say is that if you would be interested in finding out information related to software, service or even SIM card related question for GSM type phones, I suggest contacting the carrier since they are responsible for that part of the phone and should have information to help out with your questions.
Gustavo: As well, even though LG engineers do help out though out the development process, LG does not actually support third party software or applications, which in any case you would want to contact the carrier as well if dealing with issues related to apps or other software not directly related to the phone.
Guest: So you say it is a T-Mobile issue?
Gustavo: I am always happy to help out as best I can with situations in general, but I am unfortunately only limited to the information we have for the hardware specifications and what we can find in the Owner’s manual, in our system and from experience.
Gustavo: I honestly do apologize for the inconvenience if there is any. Hopefully you now have a better picture of software vs hardware. I tried to help out and type in this information as clearly as I could so you could have a better picture of how LG phones are actually made.
Gustavo: As far as Apps go, it is really up to the App developer
Guest: OK thanks. This is what I expected.
Gustavo: The app developer has to work out the glitches for the app to work on the provided software.

Doesn't really matter who is to blame, point is it doesn't work and no one seems to care to fix it or get it to work. Like many other apps on the market the G2X is ignored.
In Netflix's defense, a lot of LG phones are having problems with the App.
If you read some of the comments it's mostly "Does not work on G2x," or "Does not work on Optimus T" or "Does not work on LG Thrill."
Works for me just fine on eaglesblood.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
There's something missing from the OS LG uses on the G2x and others. This works fine on my Streak 7, but crashes out on the G2x. The reason it works in other ROMs is that they supply the missing thing Netflix needs to work. Now if we could only figure out what that was and supply it somehow.....

Why? It's just proof that LG/T-Mobile left something out of the stock rom that facilitates running Netflix. If it works on CM7/AOSP based roms that just points out that the only factor causing Netflix not to work is the firmware running on the device, not the device or the app themselves.
So, the point is that you can point the finger at LG/T-Mobile. It's not lazy coding on Netflix's end. If it had something to do with the app/device it wouldn't run on CM7 either (which does not trick it into thinking it's on another device, it supplies whatever it is in the framework that Netflix needs that the stock roms do not have).
ok guys just for you!!! i went back to stock uninstall my cracked netflix app and installed the one from the market and guess what wuala it works fine with me!!!!!
There was an ICS port being worked on that was really close (only really needed sound/data working to be a working rom). But then the thread got locked, is that still being worked on? Just curious cause I was really looking forward to trying it out
Some people was being impatience and creating drama, so the op requested thread to be locked and stated, he will only release when port is complete.
Sent via MIUI-G2X
It would be great to still get updates on the whole process. It's a sad thing when developers can't develop publicly, but I understand completely why they closed that thread.
I guess CM9 is always waiting in the wings, but having an AOSP version is great too. Hopefully they'll still be willing to release it to the public.
i have a feeling LG is going to give us ICS faster than the developers of cm9/the devs porting the ICS rom.. the reason is because cyanogenmod wont release ics without camera working and i doubt they have it working now or are even working on it anymore..
We need LG to release ICS, or more precisely we need nVidia to give us ICS drivers. Without those ICS won't run any better than gingerbread and you'd be better off just skinning GB.

I can't seem to fathom what's up with this phone and some roms. during 90% of my ownership of this phone, it has been rebooting during phonecalls. I've tried many different roms. So far, the only ones to cure this annoying rebooting are
1) Official V21y (for now atleast)
2) Paranoid Android.
I'm not sure if it is just my phone or not, but dang, I wish this phone would've been built with a built more stability in mind! Even the latest cm7 nightly causes rebooting!
I'm begining to think my phone was just built subpar, and can't handle roms like other phones
Sorry for the rant, just got ticked off at its rebooting mid-call :good:

Hi, I have a wind mobile lg-p999dw (T-Mobile G2x)
I wanted to know that since official updates never came out for the g2x cyanogenmod and other roms were created.
Since it was an abandoned phone, developers put this phone in their priority list.
CM7 was very successful and it went all the way to a fully stable version of CM 7.2.
Ever since CM9 came out these teams lost hope.
Cyanogenmod, Eaglesblood, Hellfire, Paranoid Android, ...
When jellybean came out CM 9 for the G2x was abandoned at an early stage and development of CM 10 started.
My question is why, WHY WHY WHY hasn't a perfectly stable version of a jellybean rom for g2x not come out that is perfectly as stable like CM 7.2 while other phones like htc one x and samsung galaxy s iii that already get official updates and get the stable version of the rom?
Different reasons for different ROMs.
For some older ones there wasn't HWA, but a hacked together version that still wasn't perfect and things like the camera had issues.
For newer ones the only major problem seems to be that the radio just isn't working.
It came down to LG not releasing drivers/code. People could hack together some things, but that could only get us so far. LG did a lot of weird things with their code, I believe.
At least, in my lurking and search, that's how I understand it. I'd love to see a fully working jellybean rom for the G2x since my girlfriend got it from me as a hand me down.
Take a look through adampk's CM10.1 thread in the development section and it's User Thread here in the general section. You'll get a good view at what's not working and what everyone has tried. Maybe you can even help out.

You have to understand that most of CM9 and CM10 builds right now are based on a deprecated kernel and a modified android framework, known as "hackfest", which lacks many functions needed in the newer OSes. If you try Adampk's build 6 with, optionally, my kernel, you will see that it is really stable and works well, but not the radio. This is being worked on actively.
Most of the teams you specified simply switched to a newer model, not because of a compatibility issue. Cyanogen left us because our phone maintainer, RC, couldn't fix the radio. If he did release it anyways he would've received a lot of complains, which he didn't want.
